The Nags Head in Melton

As visitors from Oxford we left the choice of venue to our 92-year-old host. She got it it spot on. There was no trouble parking in the huge car park of an ancient building with all the nooks & crannies, beams & uneven flooring anyone could hope for. A good old village pub full of atmosphere and original features. My eye was immediately taken by the row of four hand-pumps at the bar (taps for the modern beers were on the other leg of the compact 90º serving area) covering a range of Marston's ale;. Breakspears' Oxford, Wainwright's Lake & Courage Directors included, so a hard choice. Mine was a well-kept pint (curse drink driving laws ). We ordered food at the table from a good choice, although just the haloumi burger or curry for the veggies. Being a quiet Tuesday lunchtime it came relatively quickly and all at once. Served politely and attentitively it was a sight to behold: generous portions, well-cooked and delicious. Only one of us managed to clear our plates due to the amount stacked on them. Sadly, no room for desserts. The prices were very reasonable too and that made for a good value meal. Very satisfying all round. Next time we'll have to come for beer and desserts in the sunny garden. It's good to see that an ancient village establishment can retain its character while becoming a genuine gastropub.

stumbled upon this place after a road closure diverted us through the village. food quality was excellent and nothing was too much trouble, will be returning for sunday lunch. also got to watch the skydivers at Langar as we continued our journey

Went for supper at 630 on a Saturday night so it was going to be busy. From the outside the pub looks a little run down but persevere. Ordered the Lasagne and garlic bread, home cooked and not microwaved it seems, so took a while to come. Delicious but a bit small ( had just done a spartan race), followed by one of the best sticky toffee puddings and my wife had the strawberry and apple crumble which was also excellent. This is not fast food so don't go in expecting fast.food as things are cooked in the oven and there seemed to be only 2 chefs. Service was attentive but not overly. Good value for nice food.

Good plate if food, shame it was swimming in gravy which was a real shame. Would have liked the option to have the gravy on the side please. Otherwise the meat , we had beef and the pork which was cooked beautifully.

Sunday lunch - lovely Sunday roast - £19 for the lamb and worth the money.....only criticism for me is that I prefer my lamb a little pink and this was not cooked pink but was still tender and very tasty. Also, had 3 x hand pulled ales on, Breakspear, Wainwrights and Reverends James. Will defo be back and great to see a village pub doing well.

We came here mid week lunchtime and found the service friendly. There is a good selection of sandwiches on the menu, and we both enjoyed what we had, and will come back again with our dog.

My friend was desperate for a burger so we visited on a warm evening mid week. The beer garden is really nice and quickly decided on our food. The burgers were huge and so was my brie salad!! The food was delicious and reasonably priced and staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommended

We heard it was kebab and band night and previous reviews had rated the kebabs as the best in the vale (Vale of Belvoir). Both chicken and lamb kebabs were amazing. Band was fantastic. Can't wait for next month xx

We went as a group and messed up on the pre order. They took all our orders again and the food was brilliant. Through the group we had different meals and not one complaint. Personally had the Sausages with Bubble and Squeak. 5/5!

Went here for lunch, even though we arrived before food was supposed to be finished, we were told quite rudely, that the chef had gone home. We weren't even asked if we would still like a drink. As we were on holiday would have gone back on another day for either lunch or dinner, but not after being treated so dismissively.

We thought "Shall we try somewhere new for Sunday lunch?". No, let's go where we know it's good, the food's lovely, great quality, staff and customers friendly - and it was all those things yet again. Everyone seemed happy and were having a good time. Talked to folks on tables round us and gave their dog had the chicken that my wife could manage. Had a faultless Sunday lunch, Mrs had a pudding she said was simply divine. It's a bit out of our way, but happy to make the effort and be rewarded with such a lovely meal and atmosphere. Both happy bunnies.

Stopped here on the way to our holiday as were too early to check in. Surprised initially to see tables were filling up as it was just after 12. Ordered steak and ale pie and a lasagne and both were fantastic. Other food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic too. We're going back on the way home.

Recently returned to the Nags Head for a couple of lunches (including Sunday lunch). The food was really good and the service could not have been better; friendly, attentive and very helpful.

We dropped in this afternoon for a late lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff and made to feel very welcome. The food was generous, well executed and came out super quick, which is great when you have an energetic 3 year old. Totally recommend the pie of the day which was chicken and ham.

We arrived and the pub was very busy but the staff were so very welcoming and friendly. We had a few drinks and it was such a lovely PROPER pub. I cannot speak highly enough of this lovely Oldy Worldy Pub Restaurant.A perfect ambience supported by old beams, brasses with more than a hint of yesteryear.Real ales (Bombardier) to please this man and staff that cannot do enough for you.It was our engagement and also my fiancé’s birthday and these facts were not ignored.The food was without exception excellent as was our Service Host Paul.The people in this part of rural Leicestershire are so friendly. Here’s a short story about a local pub serving stone baked pizza. Once upon a time a great pub called the Nags Head served epic pizza of biblical proportions. The End! Seriously, these pizzas are amazing and the staff are brilliant. You won’t be disappointed.

Came for our 15th Wedding Anniversary celebration. Absolutely superb food and exemplary service. We had the Sunday lunch menu. The staff were incredibly accommodating and had no issue making a small change to the meal for us.

Delicious food. We rocked up with no expectation. Looked after from the entry. Recommended excellent ale. Pork is in the news - brexit, COVID and lack of transport workers - whatever. We choose pork. Pie crust the best rich and tasty. Pork filling moist. The trio of pork - rich, sweet, succulent , crispy crackling. But best of all we’re the vegetables. Visited the Nags Head in Harby today for a family Sunday lunch with the inlaws.Have visited several times during the week for food but never had a Sunday roast.Well, we were not disappointed, the Sunday roast was absolutely great. Priced at £14.95 it was most definitely worth it. The presentation and the quality of the food was superb.The staff are friendly and welcoming and we would most definitely visit again for Sunday lunch.Highly recommend a visit if you want a tasty lunch in relaxed surroundings, with great service.

My wife and I popped in to the Nag's Head for lunch when shopping nearby. We were hoping for a country pub with good parking and with great food and service; we were not disappointed. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table where we were offered drinks whilst we interrogated the menu.There was the general pub food fayre on offer plus an a la carte menu and we both chose the sausages, bubble & Squeak and vegetables. It was a great choice; 3 large seasoned pork sausages from a renowned local butcher cooked to perfection, a good wedge of bubble & Squeak that included bacon bits, a medley of seasonal vegetables and lashings of excellent caramelised onion gravy. The quality of the food was outstanding and the portion size was large - come hungry!My wife had a couple of generous glasses of chilled white wine and I, as the driver, had an excellent lime and soda.My wife and I were very impressed with our visit to the Nag's Head and we will definitely return. Tuesdays can be themed night and I would recommend following them on social media to see what specials might be on offer.

Had a day out at Melton Mowbray market, decided on the return journey to have a spot of lunch, dropped into the Nags Head Harby was made more than welcome by the staff very courteous, had the chicken & mushroom pie freshly made with all the trimmings excellent and a pint of shandy, I can recommend this pub and will be going again in the near future 10 out of 10

Have been for an early tea this evening for my husband’s birthday. Food was delicious and service fantastic. Special shout out to front of house member Paul who was so lovely and couldn’t do more for us. Lots of choice on menu and great kids menu too. We dined inside but have had drinks in the garden on many occasions and always a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend if your looking for a great family pub in the vale.

I have returned to The Nags Head a good few times recently for lunch - I have sat outside in the very pleasant pub garden and most recently in the bar. There is always a friendly welcome, the staff are so attentive, everywhere is cleaned down after use and there are hygiene stations around the premises.The selection of food is great, the quality and price point is good - all the portions are large, some of the main meals are huge in portion size (best go hungry). This is a country pub that is offering pub food at great prices - not to be missed!I will return again!

Visited for a Sunday lunch, our first time there. Lovely welcome and nice table allocated. Good selection of roast meats offered served with roast and mashed potatoes, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. All tasted fabulous. Only disappointment was everything swamped in excessive gravy, just wish gravy had been served in a gravy boat or jug so I could have self served it. Oh and apple sauce with roady pork for me is a necessity.Would definitely go back, worth a trip out.

I recently discovered the Nags Head in Harby, near Melton Mowbray. It's a cosy, traditional pub with lots of atmosphere, but the bonus is that the food is excellent. The food is well prepared, good sized portions and nicely presented. The staff are friendly, obliging and make you feel welcome. We've been going back every week for five weeks now and I can thoroughly recommend this pub without reservation. We've always had a great meal with good wine at a reasonable price. The cannelloni is the best I've had outside Italy! Look out for special food evenings.

We visited on a rainy evening. It was Spanish night and we opted for paella 2 for £17. It was very tasty full of prawns, mussels and squid. Service was informative , friendly and even in Spanish. There was a large car park to the rear and a lovely beer garden for those warm summer evenings. The main menu looked good using fresh local produce and was reasonably priced with a good selection. There is a different themed night every Tuesday including Mexican, French and classic English food. We e enjoyed our evening and will certainly return in the future.

What a delight it is to be back at the Naggs head at Harby for Sunday lunch. The pub is a delight, the old world charm with the rugged old beams offering warmth mixed with a vibrancy of excellent staff with beautifully presented food. This is what a Sunday dinner is meant to be, the Roast Lamb was tender and lovingly presented alongside seasonal vegetables roast potatoes and a crisp Yorke. My sweet tooth was well served by he Apple and Strawberry Crumble. The staff are a credit to the establishment, friendly and attentive with time to offer conversation and advice on the daily offerings. Paul was exceptional in his advice of the beers on offer and was refreshingly accurate in his appraisal. I wholel heartedly recommend you give the Naggs head a try, Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

A large family celebration was made so much better by the lovely atmosphere, delicious food (thanks to the chefs!) and our lovely hosts. The pub was busy, however, we felt we had very personal service all evening! Would highly recommend!
