Took my 91-year-old father for Sunday roast, and it was excellent. I had the beef, and my husband and father had chicken. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, the yorkshire pudding was yummy 😁 and all three plates were cleared, and we were all happy and full. The staff were wonderful and attentive and looked after us very well. I'm really looking forward to booking again 😀

We came here with friends (6 of us) for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. Despite being very busy ( always a good sign) the staff were warm, welcoming and so friendly. We had a 3 course Sunday lunch and every course was delicious and well presented. The roast beef was beautiful along with a huge Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. The staff even brought out a cake with a candle and a birthday card for my husband- such a thoughtful gesture. We all had a really relaxing, lovely afternoon with amazing food in a lovely atmosphere and we will be returning soon. Thank you!

A regular meet-up with friends for lunch - picked The Wheel at random - Lovely welcome from Dave who's knowledgeable about everything. Great selection of beers - unfortunately I was driving, but a great German non-alcoholic one is available. The menu has a good selection, but do catch the specials board as well - that's a must. Great to see that everything was available - I just hate when you take time to decide and then you get - Sorry not on today. Nothing was rushed, the food was well-presented, timely, hot and of a quality I would have expected in a restaurant - not a pub. Price is what is expected for the area for pub food. An amazing find - if you don't go then that is your loss. Will be going back.

Hi, my name is Brock and I am an English Springer Spaniel. My mum and dad take me to the Wheel inn on Saturday evenings. It’s great because the lovely owners let me sit with my owners while they eat. Everyone is so friendly and the food is great. I know because dad gives me bits under the table. Such a relaxing and enjoyable night. Now I am home for normal biscuits with my brothers. It’s not quite the same I love The Wheel.

We visited The Wheel Inn with family who live locally, eleven of us in total including 3 youngsters. The hosting was excellent, the service was very good and very little food was left on plates - which says it all. My catch of the day - rainbow trout, was delicious and my husband really enjoyed his fish and chips. When we are in the area we hope to visit again as it was such an enjoyable experience.

What a fantastic little country pub! Dave the landlord made us feel very welcome, so lovely to see a landlord that has time to chat and obviously loves what he does We dropped by for a quick lunch and really enjoyed the Wheel Burger accompanied with a fabulous pint of real ale and a cheeky gin and tonic. We loved it so much we decided to booked for a family Sunday Lunch with friends and family, 20 of us in total We usually got to a local restaurant but decided the Wheel was better value for money and a better choice it’s so superbly hosted. Sarah, Charlotte and Lottie were on hand to answer questions, take pre dietary requests for our planned gathering and nothing was too much trouble. If you get the chance, just pop in and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed

Not sure of the exact time we called at the Wheel but it will be the last. Arrived, bought drinks. Two adults, two children. No children's menu. One adult and one child chose fish and chips. After a discussion with the staff it was agreed a children's portion of chicken pie for the seven year old, I myself also had chicken pie. Food served on slate, vegetables almost raw, small wedge of pie in a small metal pan. I asked if I could have some gravy only to be told it would take a few minutes. Ok I'll wait. Once it arrived I realised I had a problem. Anyone tried keeping gravy on a piece of slate. Coaxing my seven year old granddaughter to eat her chicken pie I suddenly felt a small bone in my mouth and then another. I told her to stop eating, explained why, oh yes grandma I've got one of those, look and she held up a piece of leg gristle with a shard of bone attached. I complained. The landlady came and didn't seem hardly perturbed at all. Told us the night before she had been out somewhere and when she returned had made the pies herself from three cooked chickens. Did I care when a young child could have choked. No would you like something else. No would you like a drink. No would the children like a dessert. Customer relations was awful. I just wanted to get out of there. Asked for the bill was even unhappier when I had been charged adult price for the children. Paid it just to get out of there.

Hmm, well after reading so many glowing reviews and the pub having achieved a couple of awards, we thought we’d try it out. On arrival, lovely pub, decor etc. Offered a choice of table, no cutlery on it but assumed this would be brought once we’d ordered food. No it wasn’t so we had to ask for cutlery once food arrived. Food - well I don’t think we have Michelin expectations but to charge £14-£15 for the burgers we had is shocking. My husband had the Wheel inn burger, he said the burger was okay nothing special. A slice of onion and tomato and a few salad leaves. I had the mushroom and halloumi burger, as a vegetarian I don’t have high expectations but food generally is better than 5 years ago. This had two thin slices of cheese and two bits of mushroom, it lacked taste. We asked for ketchup and this was an odd colour, not sure if homemade?? The chips, hand cut, were burnt. I suppose the chef may call them charred but burnt in my books. The inside was still fluffy but the outside was burnt. We’re not ones to make a fuss and had said we wanted two takeaways of burgers and specifically asked for the chips on those to be less charred. We normally go to The Plough at Hickling but due to flooding it was closed. We will continue to go to the Plough and will not return to the Wheel, a pricey mistake.

My wife and I visited this pub whilst staying down the road at The Stables Air B'n'B which is excellent by the way. We visited for both lunch and dinner during our very short stay in this delightful part of the World. Very welcoming, cosy old pub. Full of character from the moment you walk in. Branches of blossom adorn the ceiling in part of the dining area. There was a choice of three cask ales when we were there. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'Tomcat'. The food is of a very high standard. I had gorgeous beef sandwiches on both the occasions we had lunch there. The steak and ale pie was delicious. If you have room, you must try a dessert. I love ice cream and wasn't disappointed. We had good weather and sat out in the wonderful beer garden on each visit. The pub is not open all the time so do phone up before you go.

What a terrible shame! We have eaten a fair few times at The Wheel in the past three years, thoroughly enjoying their magnificent Sunday dinners and truly delicious steaks. We had not been back for a while, and it has clearly changed ownership - and chef!Today we ordered three roast dinners - two beef, one chicken. We can honestly say they were the worst meals we have eaten in a long while. The chicken was tough (somehow) and the beef was clearly not cut from a joint - it appeared to be a slow cooked steak that had been cut into thin strips. The gravy was watery and tasteless and the vegetables cooked badly - the roast potatoes were anaemic and cut more like thick chips, the solitary strips of parsnip and carrots were overdone and flacid, and the spongy Yorkshire pudding was unpalatable. The waiting staff were so young they evidently had no experience of dealing with complaints and we wondered if they had even mentioned ours to the manager. They had queried if we’d really finished, as two plates were only half eaten - we replied that the meal was very disappointing and the roast beef was clearly not from a beef joint. However on paying the bill no-one mentioned the feedback, and we were charged the full amount.Needless to say, we won’t be back to The Wheel - and we will be hunting down the previous chef in the hope we can follow him to his latest endeavour!

I can’t recommend this place highly enough! Admittedly I only make it up to the The Wheel on Sunday’s, however.....wow! The service is amazing, the landlord (Matt I think) makes an extra special effort to great me on every single visit. My special place is normally available and I just love to sit at the end of the bar and watch the happy people enjoy their trips to this great place. I always request a special taster of their amazing BEEF BEEF BEEF and it never disappoints- I am so fortunate to always receive personal service from Matt - he really is the best! This place really has it all, amazing food, generous portions, clean floors, voluptuous water bowls, biscuits on demand.....Grade A - Top shelf - Back of the net! Mostly I enjoy the trip to Branston with my little brother and my mum and dad which proves what a family friendly place The Wheel is.....Mum and Dad are sometime covered in mud and the management really don’t mind- a smile and swift service coupled with great food, beer and wine seems to keep them happy. In short (like my bro) this place is epic, I love it, and I love Matt the landlord. Shady out

Booked for a family lunch and arrived a few minutes before our booked time. Staff are friendly and the surroundings are very pleasant, clean, tidy, just a good looking village pub. Badly let down by the food today. Starters arrived 40 minutes after ordering and mains 90 minutes after ordering. Despite the good weather and bank holiday weekend it was not hugely busy and so the delay was really unacceptable. When the food arrived the meat was ok, carrots and parsnips had barely seen the oven and were nearly raw, but the roast potatoes were overdone by a mile.

Visited last Thursday for lunch as I was looking for a nice location and the wheel was suggested to me by a friend. The service was quick and hassle free and the food came out very efficiently. I couldn't fault anything with my meal, the quality was more than I could have asked for. I will be coming back again very soon and will be recommending it to my friends and family.

Lovely welcome as soon as we walked in the door. Was very busy day but still didn’t stop the very fast service and impeccable staff. The two lads didn’t put a foot wrong and made It look very easy! Will be going back as soon as we can. What a perfect family meal !

I recently found myself at a loose end, and was suggested The Wheel. As I walked in the fires were roaring and and was greeted by a young barmen. The selection of beers was vast, including a Czech pilsner, id never heard of. I opted for the 8oz flat iron, which was delightful, perfectly cooked. As I came to pay, the chef/landlord was at the bar and spoke in length about his menu and the history of the pub. As an outsider I found the whole experience really welcoming.

The Wheel is a lovely pub that we used to visit regularly. Had not been since new management took over and what a disappointment. Booked for Sunday lunch and arrived with no welcome and were just pointed over to where our table was. After a while someone came to take our drinks order and we ordered a bottle of Shiraz. About 10mins later they came back to say there was no Shiraz and brought a wine list. 10 mins later they came back to take our drinks order. We finally got a bottle of Merlot having been in the pub for half an hour. They then brought the menus which were printed sheets of paper that were scruffy, marked with fingerprints and drink spillage. Very off putting. The food was ok to average. When we asked to see the dessert menu they were even more scruffy. The chocolate pudding was off which only left a choice of two icecream deserts, strawberry cheese cake or cheese. We ordered two cheesecakes and an icecream desert. The cheese cakes came and were so small the strawberry slices were bigger than the slice of cheesecake! We did complain and said that for nearly £6 the portions were unacceptable. They did reduce the price but you do not want to have to complain at what was meant to be a nice, family meal. Would we go back? Not a chance! Service is totally unacceptable, the lack of choice is totally unacceptable and the shoddy menus are also unacceptable. Such a shame. You have lost valuable customers.

We visited on Saturday night with friends. The pub is lovely and homely and the menu looked great. The waitress came to take our order and indicated that the soup was French Onion my favourite so we placed our orders. 5 minutes later she came back to explain that she was wrong and the soup was changed to pea and ham and that the pate was not available either!!!! This is where it started to go wrong. Another 5 minutes she came back to say that one of the mains was not available so our friend changed to the duck. Just 2 minutes later she was back to say the duck was not available either!!!!!!!!!

Very small portions were given for the Sunday roast. We left feeling hungry and we are not big eaters. If you like small portions then I do recommend here. The village is beautiful and the pub lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful. It really would have been an excellent review If we could have just had more.

Lovely traditional country pub with excellent food, especially steaks. Service could not be faulted. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere with a lovely open fire. Looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.

The food was alright however the service was at a snails pace! Wouldn't recommend if you're in a hurry. My pie was ok however Jeremy was complaining that his duck was overcooked, and my husband said his meal was poor. At least the service meant we had a longer time with the family. NOT impressed at all.

Have not eaten here in a while and was excited to return. Had terrine to start which was tasty but a little dry. Mains and desserts were wonderful. Very cold night and the fire was on however no heating and sat all night with my coat on and very cold.

After having previously had a bad experience with the food at The Wheel we decided to give it another go yesterday, never again! The service was appalling & the food even worse, I cannot rate the experience low enough, terrible is a compliment!

Under new management by the Marsden family this pub is fully thriving. The food tasted like it had been made just for us! Sunday lunch; tasty belly pork, all the trimming with homemade apple sauce. Fab choice of ale. Homemade apple crumble and custard to follow with cheese and whisky to share. Attentive service considering it was busy, very dog friendly and cosy with log burner creating a fab atmosphere. So good we booked in on the Game and Wine night!

Rustic historic pub in the centre of Melton Mowbray, drinks priced reasonably and a lovely beer garden for when the weather is nice. Staff are friendly too, great atmosphere in the winter (very cosy and homely). Highly recommend if you're visiting Melton Mowbray and want to enjoy a nice drink in a traditional pub

We visited as a last minute booking for 2 families totalling 22 people the day after our daughters wedding. The owners and staff were very accommodating and friendly and put on Sunday lunch for us with only 2 days notice. Both mains and desserts were good ( a choice of chicken or beef for main course) and everyone was very happy with their meal. The facilities are great for all ages with a games and toys room and a play area with a swing, slide and climbing frame in the garden which our children enjoyed. Other members of our family had visited on the Friday night and they were very satisfied with the meals and service they received too. Thank you for contributing to a lovely weekend. Thank you for helping to make our day very enjoyable. The ocassion w

I’ve visited The Royal Oak quite a few times, and it never fails to impress. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently fabulous. Every visit is brilliant. I brought my family for Sunday lunch today, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Pat and Bini, the owners, are incredibly welcoming, which makes the experience even more special. I absolutely love this pub and can’t recommend it highly enough. A huge thank you to the entire team at the Royal Oak!
