Visited here on 'Christmas lights switch on' afternoon/evening, and what a lovely cafe. We both had a panini and a milkshake. The staff were very friendly, the coleslaw was amazing and the milkshake were one of the best either of us have had for a very long time.

Went here for evening meal, the food was good and value for money. The drinks were poor, the bar person when asked for a pint of bitter, served a stout like drink. The decor in the restaurant area was scruffy and tables dirty. I have been to this place lots of time but I feel that standards have dropped.

A lovely looking pub spoiled by poor service and poor food. I eventually got served to find everything on the menu I asked for unavailable, I ended up ordering something that I wish I hadn't bothered eating, I left half of it. Firstly I asked for fish & chips, none, then I asked for chili half rice & half chips, the manager said I can have half chips & half rice but not half rice & half chips, I said its the same thing...I ended up with scampi, chips & peas, the food, all straight from the freezer was thrown on the plate, crap tartre sauce, no wedge of lemon, cheap frozen chips, cheap scampi, it was about 3 quids worth of food for £17, it was very poorly presented, my partners food wasn't that much better, the manager was miserable & surley, we will not be returning, shame as its a nice pub, I'd give the food 2/10, horrible !

Arrived late. Warm welcome and james helped us with our bags to room 5 which was a large room with view of Winnats pass at the back of the pub. We stayed 3 nights and loved it. Rooms clean, staff friendly and food excellent. Liked the pub it was how a proper pub should be. Parking for residents at back of pub. We had dinner on our last night it was very good. Cooked breakfast was good too. Freshly cooked pizza out the back in a van. Busy pub all day from 11am to 11pm. We will definetly return and special thanks to james.

We were walking in the Peak District for a couple of days with an overnight stop at the Cheshire Cheese. It is the perfect place to stay, ideal for walks over Win Hill to Ladybower or over Lose Hill and on to Mam Tor. Check-in was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were quaint & spotlessly clean. Our 2nd port of call was the bar. A nice range of well kept ales were on the pumps. Food is typical pub food - good portions, well cooked. I can recommend the veggie breakfast which set us up for our walk over Mam Tor. All in all a very pleasant stay - a great pub in a great location.

Lovely pub in picturesque village. Sat outside, to eat in the sun. I had chicken wings, which were the smallest I'd ever seen or had. But the lovely Halloumi fries made up for it. Expensive. But two other pubs on competition. Would try other food, menu looked fabulous for main dishes. The pub is the official start of the Pennine Way. Lots of country walks in the Peak District

What wonderful place to stay and eat, Thai place has recently been under new management and Thai did not disappoint at all, the owners very very welcoming and accommodating The food outstanding and so reasonable for what you get, the place is immaculate and the rooms decorated very very contemporary, clean and smelled lovely Breakfast again no faults fresh and hot when served, I stayed here 3 years ago and the standards was very poor then, so well done and will be returning soon to do the 3 edge challenge again

Really great friendly pub with good drinks and great wholesome food. Friendly staff and the steak and ale pie is amazing! We went to another pub in the village the night after which has better Trip Advisor ratings and it was such a disappointment in comparison
