We only popped in for a drink after visiting the Ladybower reservoir which is very close by. There is plenty of parking, but it was quite full, which conflicted with the number of customers in the bar; I sadly think people exploit the car park. We just had a drink- prices were reasonable, service was good, and they are dog friendly. I used the toilets, which were clean. I would return and consider eating there too.

Used to be a lovely pub with great atmosphere and traditional food. Taken over and will he my last visit as they are throwing everything at it- a BBQ outside with the smoke billowing over everyone and so had to move and the rudest staff member who then was picking ar the BBQ food and tyen serving the food without washing her hands- DISGUSTING. Will be going to the Ladybower round the corner as far better

Walked in, walked up to bar, bar staff made sure they finished their conversation before serving me. Oh, and...wait for it...£6.60 for a pint of ordinary Guiness!!!! Honestly, on what planet should you be charging this much money for a pint of Guinness??? Most places I've been in recently charge around £4.50 on average. Lovely place and decor but certain things need addressing

Booked Sunday lunch here as recommended for its Gluten Free menu. Turns out the GF option just means no Yorkshire pudding and stuffing on your roast, with no alternative or apology. Unacceptable. And the GF lager on tap was also unavailable. Left without ordering.

The food was tastless, the chicken in the cesar salad was dry, hard and no flavour whatsoever, the service by one of the managers was terrible, she was rude and not helpful at all. The place was beautiful and clean however I will never go back for a meal again, maybe for a drink if I am in the area as there isn't any other pub around it.

The Yorkshire Bridge is often our go to place for great food in the evening or after a long walk on a Sunday afternoon. We recently visited and were eager to try something from the new menu. With lots of choices, it didn’t disappoint. Theres still some of the old favourites like steak and kidney pie, but it was really nice to see some new dishes. Our starters were well presented and very tasty. For a main, I went for the chickpea curry served with rice and an onion bhaji, which I will definitely have again. The chicken was served with tasty vegetables and our desserts were the icing on the cake, the sticky toffee pudding was huge! The staff were very welcoming and friendly. All in all, a great experience. We will definitely be returning to try something else from the new menu in the near future. Dawn & Chris

Stayed here one night as in the area. Also had booked a table in the restaurant for evening meal. Haven’t been or eaten here for over 25 years so a lot to live up to in my memory. Place has expanded since I was last here. Extensions for accommodation and the restaurant were obvious to me. That’s got to be good as this place is and was always busy due to where it is. We got in late afternoon and checked in. Bar and restaurant was busy with afternoon walkers. Staff were attentive and friendly. Check in was efficient. Room was small but just what we needed for 1 night. Bar service was good. Enough choice of beer. Moonshine was well kept. Returned to the restaurant for early evening and table was ready. Waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Food choice is somewhat limited but still enough choice and specials board bolsters this up. I remember the menu being more extensive years ago but then this place has changed and is a bigger establishment now. Had a good nights sleep with a very good full English breakfast. No complaints and fairly reasonable pricing all told. Would recommend if you are in the area and need a place to stay and be well watered and fed.

Turned up just after lunch on a Sunday afternoon, we sat outside as it was a little busy and after a while it had just started to drizzle. We hadn’t asked for a table inside but one of their staff came to clear glasses outside and let us know he’d found a table for 4 of us inside which was really nice of them. Felt lovely and cosy inside once we’d come in from the cold. Nice pub food and a nice atmosphere. Would go here again if I was looking for food in the area.

Let me start with the positives.. staff are friendly, the place is clean and the food came out pretty quickly and hot. So definitely some positives. But the food itself is only OK at best. There aren't many other places to eat close by and so -- as you'd expect - the one place serving food in such a situation doesn't have to try too hard to make money. So it doesn't. Soup and a sandwich for lunch. Both were pretty bland and the prices were on the high side for what was - after all - microwaved standard pub fare. ( sandwiches come with a small salad.. not fries or crisps which have to be bought separately ) At the time of writing the Angler's Rest a little way along the road was not doing hot food because of some renovations... but that looked to be a pretty promising alternative that we will try next time we are around this area. Or we may just pack a lunch/drive to Castleton which as a lot more choice. If you do have to stop here you won't have a bad experience -- staff are friendly/ there is hot food and drink etc etc... It'll be fine. But just that.

I wouldn’t recommend stopping here if you have dogs with you. We were following a pub walks book with dog friendly pubs at the end so called in as a family of four with our three dogs. From the moment we entered the service was terrible, the staff behind the bar were very rude and had a bad attitude. They were impatient holding out the card machine waiting for payment as if we were taking too long and it was a problem for them. They then asked us if we wanted to move tables because they were worried someone might step on the dogs (pretending to be concerned), we said no we’re okay sitting here thank you (as we were already de-camped with our two kids and moving would have been a lot of effort). The dogs were very well behaved sitting and lying quietly next to the table. The staff then kept making rude comments about the dogs being in their way and giving rude looks. It was actually a chair from another table and a high chair that were in the way - not the dogs. Normally in dog friendly pubs you get friendly staff that will interact with you and your dogs - not here! The staff are rude. The pub isn’t anything special, and because of this we wouldn’t return.

My wife and I love this Inn - it’s always been a ‘go to’ venue as a family since we used to live in Sheffield and it was ‘Mum’s favourite place’. Excellent staff, excellent food (especially the Steak and Kidney Pie) and nothing is too much trouble. The landlord is a great guy with the patience of a Saint since I couldn’t handle the idiots twenty deep at the bar (a group) all paying separately for their own drinks and meals with a variety of cards, phones, watches and probably voodoo trances if they could! Get out there and have a great time and remember… it’s a country pub so have some respect.

Being a regular walker in the Peak District I always call off for a quick drink before heading home. Yesterday I called in The Yorkshire Bridge and was very disappointed. Obviously, during the pandemic you need to make sure you are safe and Covid restrictions are in place. The beer garden to the rear of the building was empty, the patio at the front had one table occupied and the tables at the side of the car park had one table occupied. As per the instructions I went to the main entrance to check in using the NHS app, that was the easy part. A lady came to the door and I asked if I could have a drink and checked if they were still doing food. I could have a drink but no food. That wasn’t a problem, it was mid afternoon on a Monday and quiet, so understandable. She asked if I’d like to sit inside or outside and told me to scan in the VR code on the table to order a drink. I said I’d like to sit outside, double checked I didn’t need to download an app to order, and headed over to the patio where one couple occupied a table and the rest were free. Another staff member saw me and came over. I noticed there were cards or something similar on the tables and I asked if it would be okay for me to sit there or were they reserved. She said they were reserved. I headed over towards the tables at the side of the car park where a small family occupied a table and realised the table I’d gone to had a cross on it saying it couldn’t be used due to social distancing. I moved to the next one and the staff member said “You can’t sit there I’m cleaning it!” It was at this point I realised this was going to be hard work, I left and went to The Millstone. While I fully appreciate times are difficulty and rules are in place they were so unhelpful and the attitude of the staff needs attention.Normally it’s a happy place... just not yesterday.

My preferred drink being OJ and lemonade but haven't found a menu yet where I can order this on my phone.Staff friendly and attentive although it did take a while to attract their attention for the bill.Portions were very generous and my husband's steak and kidney pie was stacked with meat and obviously home made. Staff were pleasant & welcoming but service was slow, however this is understandable in today’s climate. As a vegetarian I chose the Sweet Potato & coconut curry in which I was very disappointed, huge mound of rice & hardly any curry, the sweet potatoes were totally uncooked & Rock hard & the lime pickle was put in the curry instead of as a side dish. Had the veggies been cooked & the rice / curry ratio been better it would have been quite tasty & my friends enjoyed their meat dishes. We had intended to order dessert but nobody came to ask & in the end we went to find someone to ask for the bill. Overall the place is nice but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

Today was our first outing for a family meal since the Covid restrictions were eased. I was quite nervous if enough safety measures would be put in place and if they would be implemented properly. However I need not have worried. The tables were spaced well apart with clear screens separating tables. You might think this may seem imposing but it didn't at all. You hardly noticed them there and they made you feel alot more protected. There was also plenty of room. The staff all wore facemasks which I think is much better than face visors. There was also plenty of hand sanitiser around. I felt the safety measures were really well thought out and were maintained by staff and other diners throughout our meal. The meals we had were fantastic. Very tasty and generous portions. Special mentions to all the waiting on staff and in particular Chris behind the bar, who had us in stitches with laughter all afternoon. He should have his own TV show, but I think he would be missed too much by the YB. They also cook the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life. Heartily recommend.

Last Sunday the 10th of November 2019, was forecast for a really good day and though we didn’t quite get the wall to wall sunshine promised it wasn’t a bad day at all. My erstwhile rambling companions decided they wanted a trip out to Ladybower reservoir in Derbyshire; to see the giant plug holes, which didn’t disappoint as they were in full flood. The weather was really very good for the time of year and though it clouded over in the afternoon the sun came out again as we arrived back at the dam, after walking to the end of the west arm of Ladybower and then up through the enchanted forest and along the old Roman road to Win Hill Pike, then back to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn below Ladybower dam, in time for tea and medals. The pub was warm and welcoming as usual, with its excellent selection of fine ales and a small but excellent selection of single malt whiskies. As it was getting late in the day; this time we only stopped for drinks; however, we enjoyed our Christmas dinner so much last year that we went twice and are awaiting this years Christmas menu with eager anticipation. A further visit is definitely scheduled for next month.

Given some of the negative reviews I was nervous - but no need to be! Went here with friends and children. 11 in total. We booked the day before and were accommodated nicely on a large table in the barn at the back. Given the size of the table we were asked to pre order the day before which was absolutely fine, rather that than sit for an hour waiting for food. After a walk around part of the nearby Ladybower reservoir we headed back for food, which was perfect! The children’s chicken goujon were breast, the stake and kidney pie made with quality meat and the burgers got the thumbs up. No room for pudding as the meals were generously portioned. Served a good range of ales and the bar man very pleasant. Restaurant and bar were busy and the service was friendly and helpful. True, no one came and asked ‘mid mouthful’ if my food was ok, but then again I am in a pub and if it wasn’t ok I would have got up and told them....Couldn’t fault it.

We had Yorkshire pudding for starters, whilst it was nicely presented it lacked a little bit of flavour maybe a pinch of salt next time in the gravy. Mains arrived while we were still finishing our starters. Haddock and chips with mushy peas and a Dam burger both were tasty and nicely presented. Nice little selection of Gins, Dandelion and Burdock with lemonade was beautiful.

I visited the Inn with my wife last night. We have been regular visitors for years and generally enjoy the food , drink, and atmosphere etc. We arrived at the bar at 08.33pm and ordered a pint of beer and bottle of wine. I think the wine was a suitable clue that we intended to dine. The barman took the order prepared the drinks and then expressed surprise that we wanted to order food. By this time the chef had appeared by the bar, he had obviously been allowed to clear up early despite a customer wanting to order food ! There was absolutely no give or sympathy that we had driven 20 miles to eat at the Inn. This was made worse by the Barman being really pleased that restaurant orders

Typically busy on a Sunday when the suns shines but we’re lucky to get table in conservatory- you have to be prepared to wait! Great food, big portions well cooked, don’t rush you! Homemade soup was excellent whilst gammon and the steak pie were excellent! If you like cask there’s plenty of choice, recommend Barnsley Bitter, full of flavour for 3.8%. Dogs welcome, tight car park and roadside parking too but with all the walkers it can be tough. Great service too. Recommend it

We have visited many times and have always felt the food was lacking flair, the menu hasn't changed much for 20 years, however today was an all time low and we have made a decision never to eat here again. If the chef can't manage to cook a fresh and reasonably hot jacket potato then it's time to look for another career.

After visiting previously for a drink we have wanted to go and sample the food. Booked a table for today. The lady who took the booking was both friendly and helpful. The pub is in beautiful surroundings and has a very cosy hospitable feeling. Dogs and muddy boots welcomed! We sat next to a lovely cosy fire perfect for warming up after a cold walk in the Peaks. Staff all very friendly. The food was amazing! Will definitely return to sample more of the menu. Both adult and Kids portions extremely well sized and good range of choice. A lovely meal to end our day!

As there had been mention of the drowned villages of Ashopton and Derwent at Ladybower reservoir both in the national and local news media, I went with friends to have a look on the second of December 2018. I should have known December is not the best month for sightseeing. We left from Heather Dene car park next to Ladybower dam on a trekk to the site of the drowned village of Derwent, just below the Derwent dam on the north arm of Ladybower reservoir. As we set off up Derwent lane, we were met with frequent showers of sleet and rain so nothing new there then. Despite Global warming UK winters are still miserable and unpleasant. We eventually reached the site of the village of Derwent which emerges from the depths of the reservoir every thirty years or so when there has been a long dry period such as the summer and autumn 2018 drought. There isn’t a lot of the church left to see as a very thorough demolition job was carried in 1945 though the tower of the church was left standing, but during a dry period in 1947 local children started to play in it so the authorities requested its removal and the army’s engineers demolished it. Despite looking like it dated from the medieval period the church was actually built in the Victorian era in the Victorian gothic style and it lasted around 60 years or so before its demolition. There is more of the English Civil War period manor house left; though a thorough demolition job was carried out, part of the ornate stone work remains. Its also possible to see the outline of the gardens which provided the manor house and the hamlet of Derwent with vegetables. There are also the remains of the water houses which were next to the gardens. There were other buildings such as a row of cottages and a school though unfortunately not much remains to be seen. As the weather had turned from poor to atrocious, we retreated back down the valley in the mist and driving rain to the warm embrace of the Yorkshire Bridge Inn. After a couple of warming drams to revive us from the edge of hypothermia, we had a delicious and excellent Christmas dinner with all the trimmings followed by Christmas pudding washed down with Farmers Ale from the local brewery at High Bradfield over in the next valley. Well done Yorkshire Bridge; your welcoming and friendly staff and excellent cuisine were the highlight of a cold miserable winter’s day. Pub grub at its best. The excellent Christmas menu is available on request to ramblers and visitors and doesn’t have to be pre-booked; unless you are bringing more than ten people, unlike certain other establishments in the area.

we called in for a bite to eat and a drink after our dog walk round the ladybower , Derwent and howden dams. We ordered the soup and a sandwich option on the lunch menu. The soup was homemade and delicious and the sandwiches were very nice and came with a bit of salad on the side. They also had several very nice real ales on tap that were all very nice. We will definitely be back and would recommend a visit if you are in the area.
