Stopped here for one night before doing a 30 mile walk. Decided to head to Mam Tor for sunset... amazing fish and chips pre walk and made it back for the most amazing sticky toffee pudding to warm me up!

Came here with my dog and met some of the friendliest staff I have met. A lad called Logan poured me a lovely Kinder Fall, which I have never tried before and loved it. Had a great chat with Logan about the area and he pointed me in the direction of a lovely but not too challenging walk. Food was great would definitely recommend.

Firstly, we waited ages for food to arrive and when it eventually got here the fries (which we asked to be swapped for chunky chips) were basically white and undercooked! The chicken burger itself was very dry which differed from the lasagne which was more like a soup. Not to mention the coleslaw which was 70% mayo but scooped with a tea spoon. Considering the prices the food definitely does not match the quality. Nobody checked back to see how the food was so we just ate and left and we will definitely not be returning.

Absolutely awful. We came to have a picnic and drinks so sat outside and ordered drinks. No signage and weren’t told that picnics weren’t ok, if were told we would have gone to the other pub which was fine for picnics! Being that it is not great weather and next to empty, seemed a bit of a silly move, would have had an afternoon of drinks with friends maybe joining us, instead we had 1 each and swiftly left, the cafe got our money instead, far better. Will never return!

Popped in here for a bit of lunch and was welcomed with a great smile, we were shown to a perfect sitting place and left to browse at leisure through the menu ( no hard sell!). Whilst pondering over as to what to order I went to the bar for refreshments and was greeted with chirpiness/ laughter from the staff ! After ordering the meals we were pleasantly surprised as to the efficiency of delivery ( in some places if there's more than the *regular 3* then someone will be waiting for their food longer!) Not in this case. Well done to all the staff for letting my family and myself fell very welcomed. I had the steak and Stilton cheese pie and mash and being a *northerner* yes I have had pies but nothing like this, when in this area again I will be trying it again * if just to satisfy my curiosity * of was that just a one off! The rest of the family had various meals of all which nothing was left on the plate ( almost to the fact we were seriously thinking of licking the plates clean, but had to compose the fact we were in a public house and not at home,,Dam it , LOL)

Having found this place on our travels whilst on a wet day in February we went here for a lunch time meal. On arriving in there we went to where the log burning fire is !! Wow u get the views of the valley and the warmth of the fire. Staff and bar selections fantastic and price of drinks very reasonable. The menu has enough choice for hikers to couples who want a nice meal out. We had the pie and one of the burgers, both very nice and very warm and effort put in with the presentation !! Priced very reasonable considering the portion sizes. I would definitely go back and recommend here. Keep up the good work

They say never back the early Kickoff but here we are in The Peak District walking up hills and falling down said hills. From drinking in Yorkshire, to now drinking in Derbyshire in the Rambler Inn. The spicy white has gone with a trio of sausage to start his experience off. After that he tucked into some rather large sausages on a bed of creamy mash. One must say once I got past the gag reflect that giant sausages provoked it was rather lovely and I would highly recommend again. Hey there Bengali Badboy here, I went with a nice scampi, chips and a Kopperberg combo. I’ll tell you know if I had a 0.2 right now I think I’d be in love with the chips, exquisite and I’d even say a slay. The scampi was lovely especially the crust, nicely breadcrumbed pairing perfectly with a mixed fruit Kopperburg. We are so back baby, thank you for our review and keep it lemon🍋. #Hullfair#Welsh#NoJacket

The first thing that disappointed me was the fact that they refuse to take bookings and you know what it’s like when you want to be sure that you have a table when you get to a pub.So, we held our breath and just hoped.Luckily we got a table.I’ve heard all the reasons before for this but it just does not make any financial sense at all.How many people decided to give it a miss I wonder.By 7.30 there were about ten tables free……when we wanted to book. The food is ok and that’s all I can say really, other than the pie of the day, which was great. The staff are very friendly and the landlord, who kept calling me boss, was very pleasant. Don’t get me wrong, you will not be disappointed unless you are happy to pay £20 for average fish and chips.

A great pub nicely placed next to Edale rail station that caters for walkers. It was really busy on a nice Saturday in October, so worth seeing if you can book a table. Trains run once an hour from Edale, so it does tend to empty out just before the trains arrive. We did manage to get table after 20mins or so and enjoyed beers and some lite bites.

Myself and a friend had been walking all day and were ready for a big dinner. Unfortunately for me, only one of us left satisfied. My friend chose the lasagne and was very happy with both the quality and the quantity of her meal. However, I chose the beef casserole with green beans and mash. The size of my meal was tiny. Also, there was more mushroom than beef in the "meat" part of the meal. ( I don't like mushrooms). I had to dig them out before i could eat. For the high price paid, I was disappointed . They ought to know that most people have been hiking all day. Potatoes aren't expensive. It wouldn't hurt to put more than half a spud into the mix. Bottom line...not impressed.

Really picturesque location with lovely views of the Derbyshire hills. Staff very nice and helpful. Food mediocre and overpriced, £18 for an overcooked medium sized battered fish and fried frozen chips. I tend to judge eating places by the quality of their fish and chips, this didn’t come anywhere near being somewhere I would want to come back to. Good range of beers though!

After a beautiful hike I was looking forward to some tasty scran and a pint. I was really happy to see Cruzcampo as an option, however from 9 Cruzcampo's my table ordered, only 2 of them came in Cruzcampo glasses, the other 7 were in Fosters glasses. Weirdly one friend ordered a cider which came in a Cruzcampo glass.. I'm really not one to complain and it was very busy so whatever. We ordered food as soon as we arrived, 4 meals. The two burgers came out and were eaten, then after they'd finished the trio of sausages came out and my friend ate that on his own. Unfortunately my food never came, I'd waited over an hour, trying to be patient as it was extremely busy, but eventually went in and enquired and sure enough it had been missed. The bar staff were great, they mentioned something about the ticket printer being a bit dodgy. I ended up getting a full refund for my food, but ofcourse disappointed as I was starving and couldn't wait for them to make it again before my train was coming. I was told it'd be 45 mins until the chef would see the ticket at least. I'll put it down to being a really busy day, and would probably go back if I was in the area. The outside space is really great on a sunny day.

A group of friends and i had travelled for 5 and half hours to the nearby campsite and decided to visit this establishment for some food nearby. First of all we found out we couldn't just go to the bar and order, we had to download an app to order anything. Then we were told the kitchen had closed 45 mins early. And this was apparently because some members of the public werent wearing masks OUTDOORS. The place had about 100 people sat around tables outside looling to buy drinks, snacks and meals. We were all asked to leave because the manager was upset and emotional about something and he basically turned down the business of everyone there leaving us all hungry and thirsty. To rub salt in the wounds the manager then apparently telephoned the only other pub in the village and told them not to serve us either. Covid has hit pub owners hard but this guy obviously has plenty spare change in the bank to throw his toys out of the pram like that. Im always more than happy to spent my hard earned money in local establishments but this is one of those places that clearly doesnt need anyones money.

Agree with some previous reviewers- the waitresses are friendly and very helpful which we appreciated, but we did find some of the treatment, of us and of other customers, pretty abrupt. I think customers need to feel you’re on their side, not feel that you’re just feeling ready to deal with them if they trip you up somehow - it just seemed a bit unnecessary and affects the whole experience . The food was good. The beer and the views are really really good.

We visited the Ramblers Inn on Saturday 31/10/20 after a 13m walk. While reading the Covid rules outside the front door to the pub, we was greeted by a welcoming young waitress who confirmed we was welcome to bring our dog in. Upon entering the pub, while being guided to our table a more senior member of staff abruptly told the young waitress to ‘stick us in there’, which at the time we thought nothing of however in hindsight this was an obvious sign that this particular staff member has a major attitude problem. We had barely even sat at the table (<60 seconds) as we was trying to understand how we download the app to order drinks/food etc, and a dark haired middle aged waitress appeared, her opening comment was ‘stop eating that or get out’. We had just finished a 13m walk, my friend is diabetic and needed to eat, he had 1 mouthful remaining and due to the fact he had had a mouthful of food he was unable to respond immediately. Without even being given the decency to respond, the disgustingly rude brunette woman (referring to her as a lady would be too kind) then proceeded to have another rant at us, in front of other paying customers. Again we was given zero chance to converse with her, and we subsequently made it clear to the woman that her attitude was absolutely shocking, and neither does the pub nor her staff deserve our custom and we will take our money elsewhere. From reading many other reviews on Trip Advisor, it would seem this same member of staff was not simply having a bad day, but does in fact have a major attitude problem and lacks basic human interaction skills. What’s more shocking is the fact The Ramblers Inn/Dorbiere Chain still employ such people as there are multiple negative reviews about referring to the same woman that date back months.Ironically, if you turn left out of the Ramblers Inn car park and walk 5mins straight up the lane, there is a very nice quaint pub called The Nags Head directly in front of you opposite the School. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the menu choice as well as the ales/beers on offer was much better. Dorbiere – we do hope you read these multiple awful reviews and take appropriate action with this particular member of staff.

Explained was food for the dog and was actually shouted at by the female manager ‘I don’t f* care, put your food away’. Other guests in the garden staring in disbelief and said she had been rude to everyone. Quickly packed up to leave, refuse to spend money in a place you are treated so badly. I believe the woman in question is the manager and common knowledge with Sheffield walkers she is incredibly rude to people. To me this seems crazy, if staff hate the service industry maybe it’s time to leave the job, Covid or not.

Food was clearly cheap and microwaved avoid at all costs. Go to the old nags head. Staff seemed like they didn’t want any business, very rude man, very rude. Serviced seemed untrained and didn’t know what to do

I have been going to Rambler's Inn for the last 4 years whenever we finish our hike at Edale. The choice of beer is good, particularly Dortmunder Pilsner, and newly added range of Ales. The food is quite good and the pub shows football on two screens. It used to be crowded inside pre-lockdown.

I am not going to remark further than the fact a woman answered the phone and was as rude and standoffish as anyone could imagine. Will find somewhere else.

Thank you: for having a routine that copes with covid 19, for the best onion rings in edale and for the great cider and friendly staff. Thank you for bringing a slice of normal and comfort to our week away. P. S. Chips and curry sauce are bang on.

We've already kept some foods off the table. An only one chilli sauce that we have left. Then, a staff woman say " so rude ".That word so terribly. It shouldn't be used. The woman staff so unfriendly. I always sit at the pub for a drink. Today, so sad. First time that I hear that word in the UK restaurant. Not recommended.

Ate and drank here after a lovely post lockdown walk in Edale area. Lovely gardens with tables well spaced out. Menu and safety guidelines posted by main door and one way system in place to keep us all safe. Inside was nice clean cosy, with tables spaced, hand sanitiser, guidelines posted and friendly staff wearing masks to greet and welcome guests and answer any questions. Bar area safely screener and social distancing maintained. Really nice staff. Food and drink were good and brought out to us outside. A real gem of a place. Thank you.

We went to the Ramblers for lunch and enjoyed a hearty home cooked meal. We had toad in the hole, steak and ale pie and steak and kidney pie the pies being full of tender meat. The choices from the specials board being particularly good. The portions were so big that my daughter and I couldn’t eat it all. The warm welcome we received made our visit a real pleasure and we will look forward to going again.

I, and my trusted friend, Colin had a superb weekend stay at The Rambler Inn, in Feruary 2020. The quality of the food was excellent, accompanied by prodigious proportions as well as being served in a courteous and efficient manner. Moreover, the bar staff and the interim Manager Caroline, were very accommodating and were prepared to go the extra mile to make our stay more enjoyable. Overall, I would thoroughly reccommend this establishment to anyone who was thinking of having a sojourn in the glorious Peak District. Despite the adverse weather conditions due to Storm Ciara we still had a brilliant time.

Went for a run out to Edale despite the rain and snow and opted to eat our lunch here at the Rambler Inn. Only wanted a light lunch so having checked if the chips were home made and being promised that they were ,we opted for a chip butty and a sausage/fried onion baguette with salad and chips (the portion was big enough for us to share),The food was served amazingly quickly but the chips were dry and over crispy and not home made. The baguette was freshly cooked and sausage very tasty but the onions were almost raw although there had been an attempt to try and fry them. The salad was a few bits of greenery on the side.We did have a good cup of tea although it was served as a tea bag in a white mug. The ambience of the pub was welcoming and warm. The staff were friendly. Not a place we would rush back to but we were the first customers of the day and perhaps this might explain our experience. Perhaps I am being unduly harsh but the others in our party agreed that it wasn’t the best lunch experience we have ever had.

Great food for a pub that was so empty and cold on an Arctic Monday evening in February. Staff very helpful and the overarching feeling leaving the Rambler was one of gaiety.

Worst service I have experienced in a long time. Stopped at the end of a very long day of walking for what we thought would be a nice drink. Rude and very unwelcoming. So much so we felt forced to sit out in the cold on the picnic benches as to not be frowned upon. When you see the amount of pubs that close down perhaps they should look after customers who hand over their money for dire service.

We’ve been to the Rambler Inn twice before for food and drinks when previously camping up the road so knew we’d be well fed and watered. We decided to treat ourselves to a two night stay so we could have a weekend getaway exploring Kinder Scout. We arrived Friday night and received a warm welcome where we ordered a packed lunch for the next day of walking and we’re then shown to our room. The room was lovely! Super roomy, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv and the biggest, comfiest double bed - it was like sleeping in a cloud! Needless to say we had a great night sleep before the big walk and a great breakfast to set us up for the day. On returning, we had a fab meal (chicken fricassee was beautiful!) and a tasty pint of Rambler’s Gold followed by another great night’s sleep. Everything about our trip was fantastic - food, accommodation, atmosphere, staff - we’ll definitely be back in the future. Thanks for a really lovely stay!

Having visited each year in the past with groups off over 20, I was disappointed this year when they wouldn't take a booking over a week in advance and then upon arriving they were unhelpful at accomodating us and when I asked when they expected it to quiet down recieved a glib response people could stay 4 mins or 4 hours this was at almost 2pm on a Saturday. They made no attempt to help at all so I called the Nags head who opened up a room and accommodated us at 10 mins notice, far better reception. If you're a large group don't bother with the Rambler Inn.

After a day scrambling, Grindsbrook and Crowden cloughs and descending Jacobs ladder. Myself and 3 others ventured in, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food was swiftly brought forth, good portion size. I ordered the butternut squash burger. It was delicious.

whilst staying at Nag's head up the road, we decided to spread our money around the village a little by dining at the Rambler. Food was good for a pub, although my fish n chips could have been better. The other 3 people enjoyed their meals.

Had a cracking visit here after the boys and I had a fell run up Jacobs and back. Great service, even pointed to a cracking seat by the fire to warm up / dry off. The fact that the food a tiny smidge more expensive than most pubs (by a quid or so) is offset by the fact they are big walkers sized portions! I would really recommend it after a good session on the peaks.

We arrived about 8pm on Friday and it was busy. Initially we couldn't get a table because they were all taken and some were reserved. We waited outside for a while until one became available, however, in the short time it took us to get there, it was reserved... FOR BREAKFAST! - just like the other reserved tables. As the lady had only just got there, she reluctantly let us use it (as long as we didnt stay too long...). We then sat and watched as many people were told they were not allowed to use the 'reserved' tables - even a family with 2 very young children. Every time a table became free it was swarmed upon by staff so other customers were not able to use it. Absolute madness. Seems they would rather turn paying customers away than spend 1 minute setting up each table after closing time or in the morning.

Called at The Rambler after a long walk up Kinder Scout. Easy to find in the centre of Edale just round the corner from the main public car park although it does have its own large car park.

Four of us spent 2 nights here as the base for walking in the area. It was good value, friendly and the food was appropriate to the purpose of the venue - to provide hearty food for walkers. It’s not luxurious- but not intended to be - but comfortable and clean.

Food was lovely but despite booking five days previously we were put in an empty room at the back of the pub next to the kitchen and toilets. Constant stream of people going past our table to and from the bathrooms and staff going in and put of the kitchen I do not agree that my review was "mean spirited" I have eaten here several times and really enjoyed my visits and food. You have said the room we were sat in was full before and during our visit. Obviously I can't comment about before but when we arrived ours was the only table with a reserved sign on it and although the room did fill up it was people who were only drinking or presumably had not made a reservation. My impression was that this room was for late/non bookings and drinks which the reason I was disappointed. My complaint was not about your pub, which is lovely, but the room at the back of the pub which lacked atmosphere, and didn't even feel like we were in The Sun Inn.

Waited over an hour for food, when it eventually arrived it was over cooked and tasteless. Not a friendly atmosphere for a Country Pub.

I attended Fosters after driving past and seeing plants outside. The young gentleman who served me was lovely and really went out of his way to help me. However 2 older women that work here were rude, obnoxious and I was made to feel very uncomfortable. I even tried to make conversation when paying but I was just ignored. Not how you expect to be treated this day in age

Banging classic village banter, and thumping 90s dance music, good ale and serves later than all other pubs in Whaley Bridge, exactly what a man needs after a busy shift. The bar maid is hot to trot too 🤪😎
