Bar man very friendly and had a conversation which was an unexpected surprise. Don’t get much back nowadays!! Guinness was good and the wood burner was on so nice and warm. Due to warm welcome we would return if in the area. Pub apparently very busy when the campsite opens but with the recent good food reviews could mean a good season for them 🥳

We were out walking and chose the Woodroffe for a spot of lunch. The landlady was very friendly, and our drinks were served perfectly. We had soup and sandwiches, (which arrived quickly and hot!) and we both said that the parsnip soup was the best soup we've ever tasted. We will be back next time we're in the area.

We visited the Woodroffe Arms on a Sunday afternoon 22nd October, it was the first time they were offering the carvery and we have to say how lovely this was, delicious succulent beef and pork , cooked to perfection, nice selection of fresh veg , nice and al dente , roast and mashed potatoes, and excellent value for money, staff very friendly and professional. The pub is cosy and warm, it’s nice to have a carvery option on offer in the Hope Valley. Recommend to anyone who likes good quality , home cooked and great value food, will definitely be back soon!

We had a meal here for the first time tonight. We had the Belly Pork & the Woodroffe Burger. Both meals were excellent. I asked if I could have the burger without a bun & they put a large beef tomato slice on the top & the bottom which I thought was a great idea. Both meals had a different twist to them & were delicious. The setting was lovely in the newly refurbished conservatory & finally the service & the staff were spot on. Were looking for somewhere different to eat a 'proper' meal on a wet July evening and decided that the Woodroffe Arms might be worth a try. Turns out the restaurant is actually a separate business serving Chinese/Asian food. It was actually quite good food-wise, the service was inexperienced but very friendly, the decoration lacks originality and doesn't encourage having a long stay. Unsurprisingly the take-away service seemed to do better than the actual restaurant.

We knew that our stay at the Woodroffe wouldn't be luxurious as we hadn't paid very much money for it.The car park was absolutely fine with more than enough room.We approached the bar about checking in and were then taken to our rooms. We were actually taken to the outside of the pub and up some external stairs and were then told that the keys were in the doors. It wasn't a particularly friendly welcome, but was fine.We ended up in Room 1, which had a double bed in it and a very small ensuite, with a loo, sink and small shower cubicle (my 6ft tall boyfriend found it quite a squeeze!). The shower pressure was pretty poor, however the water was hot. There was a very small tv in the corner of the room that you couldn't really see from the bed, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board and a hairdryer, so actually pretty well equipped. There was a wardrobe with plenty of hangers and drawers available. The bed slumped in the middle and the pillows were very worn, there were two each, however, we felt like we need more. The room was clean, so no issues there. There was a piece of paper on the drawers detailing the wifi password (we didn't try it as we weren't in the room very long) and the number to call if you had any problems. The biggest issue was being awoken at 6am on a Sunday morning by the cleaners downstairs in the Chinese restaurant, we think they were hoovering and they didn't make any effort to do so quietly. I would have hoped that on a weekend they could start slightly later. We didn't eat/drink in the pub so can't comment on that. All in all, it was ok for what we paid.

With 5 Staff and a dozen kids in tow needing a quick Hot chocolate before back to the youth hostel, i popped in to see if they would/could accommodate this. The idea of a bus load of kids at 8pm for hot chocolates seemed perfectly normal for them. They had to go across the road to get the chocolate and here is the best bit. They offered to give big bowls of chips to the kids and because the adults and a few others were paying for bar drinks they threw the Hot drinks and chips in for free. Also the staff the owner and family all wanted to chat to us and find out who we were and what we were doing. The children in question are a group from a Special school with life issues. this was a superb way for them to see for themselves that strangers can be warm, kind, generous and take an interest in them. in return our boys showed a level of respect that even surprised themselves. Thank you kind people of the Woodroffe. there is some good Karma coming your way (and if it hasn't happened yet - next year we shall return on our annual residence away and visit you; bad luck!)

Camped near Hope and gave this place a try for drinks and food. The car park and outside seating lacked care and attracted local smokers clearly swearing for the benefit of tourists despite women and children present.Struggled to get to the bar as locals sat lined up at the small bar completely blocking access, again swearing and showing off.The bar maid looked hard worked but could use a bit of make-up some decent clothes and a smile if the pub is interested in any degree of success. The bar maid chatted occasionally to regulars but was completely cold to us tourists.I wouldn't ever use the bar again. However, the chinese restaurant franchise in the conservatory was a different kettle of fish. It wasn't particularly professional as one would expect in a city but we didn't care beause we were in hiking gear in a a part of the country where as long as the staff were attentive, helpful and the food good then we were happy. The lady who ran the restaurant was pleasant and juggled numerous duties expertly. The price was reasonable, her knowledge of her work extensive and the service outstanding for a staff of one visible. thoroughly recommended. The Bulls Head along the high street knows how to attract custom, the Woodroffe does not and is a classic example of why so many taverns fail.Get rid of the riff raff during the tourist season, run a few specials, half a dozen hanging baskets, retrain the bar maid to be a welcoming hostess and the trade will pick up and earn an income for further investment.

There weren't many tables for 2 and we had to wait about 45 minutes to be seated but this wasn't a problem as we sat in the bar with a drink. It was also very busy with it being a Saturday night. They could have done with employing another member of staff for a Saturday if it's always that busy. The waitress was very friendly and chatty and I think she was under a lot of pressure as she was doing everything. We had crispy duck and then I had beef in satay sauce with egg fried rice. Stayed at the Woodroffe Arms during the August Bank Holiday in an en-suite double room. The room was spacious, clean and tidy with TV plus Tea\Coffee making facilities. Room only, but compared to other B\B prices it's a bargain! There are plenty of places to get breakfast locally even from the snap wagon in the car park. The Landlord and bar staff made you feel really welcome. This is a busy little pub, with locals, hikers, campers, dog walkers and other visitors all enjoying the atmosphere of a Traditional Country Pub. There are plenty of wooden benches outside plus an Aviary and Play area for the kids to enjoy. The Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant\Takeaway run as a separate business in the pub conservatory is a novel idea. We stayed for two nights in two of the hotels twin rooms. Firstly we couldnt find anyone, when we first arrived at 2.45 in the afternoon so not exactly welcoming! The landlord was eventually raised from his own rooms and pointed to the two rooms-not showing us them at all! The rooms were dirty with previous guests rubbish left behind the chest of drawers! The bathroom was dirty and unfinished The toilet still containing the previous occupants deposits.(I can only hope that the floor was dirty with mud?!)The pub does not provide any food at all (we made our way to the Old Hall for breakfast) There is a Chinese restaurant at the back of the pub which although good very expensive. When we spoke to the landlord he said that his wife had been away-I pointed out that as the landlord it was his responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the rooms and provide a service whoever is living there - he knocked a bit off the bill reluctantly. The whole experience was a big let down. On one note the decor in the rooms was very tastefully done so someone at some point cared-even if they don't iron the bedlinen anymore!.

This is not a B&B report, as we didn't stay overnight in the Woodoffe, but we were staying at a B&B nearby and took our evening meals in the pub.Overall, the atmosphere was what you'd like to expect from a "Country Pub", nice friendly people there (my wife and I don't "stick to ourselves" - we always like to chat with others around us), and the ale was good too. As I said, we took all of our evening meals there and it was just "good pub food" which we enjoyed every time. One warning though - DON'T order the "Belly-Buster-Burger" unless you are really SERIOUS! It must be getting on for 6" high, plus a mound of chips. I managed to eat about half of the chips, and most of the buns - and of course ALL of the burger :) Would we eat there again? Definitely - but I'd skip on breakfast and lunch if I were going to have another "Belly-Buster". We fell in love with Hope Valey and the Peak District. Beautiful, Unspoiled, Plenty of walking or exploring the caves.

Ordered £145 worth of food. Took 2 hours to arrive and worst Chinese food we’ve ever had. All food bland and taste the same. Pancakes for crispy duck inedible, gluepy and stuck together.
