Having tried most of the eating places in the village this is our go to place in Castleton for lunch, with the Derbyshire oatcakes being our particular favourites. The welcome is second to none. Claire and Liz are both so friendly and however busy they are they always stop for a chat. The place is spotlessly clean and the food is fab with a good choice of regular items and a very tempting display of savouries and cakes. Highly recommended by us.

A lovely welcoming family run cafe, hidden away in Hope Village. The service was good and the food was excellent, there is a slight wait for the food but that is because it is all freshly prepared and cooked. Had an awesome ham & cheese toastie, it was the best one I've ever had. It was served with a large fresh crispy salad, the key word being fresh!! Well worth a visit

A warm and friendly welcome which made a birthday celebration very special. Lovely memories made in a very relaxing environment. The comfy chairs invite you to relax eat chat laugh. The food was tasty plentiful and staff very attentive. We ate mains which filled us and took cake home to continue celebrating. The cakes were delicious. Thanks to all for making our day out in chilly drizzly Castleton a memorable one . My Mum had a lovely day. It's a lovely place. I'm looking forward to a return visit .

• Well behaved dogs allowed. • Not advised for those who are not fit and able. • Small children/babies are advised to be in carriers (we understood why on the way down). Continue reading for detailed review: The route down is steep. The stairs are damp in parts and you really do need to hold the railings. Myself and my husband are fit and able, our toddler was amazing and managed the whole way down and most of the way up (stopping to catch breath). It is not advised if you have cardiac issues or breathing issues, as well as knee or hip/leg issues. You can take pictures when you stop at each point. Filming is NOT allowed at all. Our guide Tony was great. He was very knowledgeable and was great with our toddler too. He was very considerate and made regular stops so those who aren't as fit could catch their breath. The cavern is incredible. It is made of so many different elements and seeing the Blue John Stone within the cave is really something special. We had a great time and would recommend it! Reasonably priced as well given the safety risks.

What a super place this is. We booked for New Years Eve and were not disappointed. The waitress was super helpful in a relaxed way and gave excellent recommendations including the truffle shuffle. I ordered the mushroom bruschetta and the Puttanesca with prawns and both were delicious and very tasty. The entire staff were excellent and even reminded us to take our unfinished bottle of wine when we left. All 6 starters and mains were devoured and not a scrap was left. A definite winner and I thoroughly recommend a visit. Excellent food and value for money.

Booked to go here for our short stay in Castleton. The food was so good we ate the following night and were very lucky they could squeeze in so definitely book ahead. Nothing g was too much for the fro t of staff and they made some fantastic recommendations. We loved the lamb and chicken shuffle truffle pasta dish. With a lot of ‘pub food’ establishments, it was really great to have food with a sense of occasion. Also had a very very nice bottle of Rioja which we would also recommend 🍷 If you’re going to Castleton - book it, you won’t regret it 😄

Called here for my second visit recently, this time to try the breakfast menu. I had the full English breakfast which was absolutely delicious, could clearly tell that the produce was of high quality, not the cheap stuff you sometimes find on breakfasts. My other half had the RC royale which she said was amazing. Looking forward to my next visit! Highly recommended.

I had the absolute pleasure of staying here last night to celebrate my wife’s big birthday . Two words / World Class! The service, the room ( we had the Edale Suite), the facilities , the decor character and general warmth, the wine and drink choice and the food ( we had 3 course dinner and breakfast option ) was the best I have ever had anywhere. Finally the staff are absolutely amazing. It’s only 45 minutes away from where I live and I’m gutted I have never been before. Our new favourite place ! We have a lot of years to catch up !

Visited after walking Mam Tor for sunrise hoping for a breakfast. Sunday morning so not much open. Breakfast items were very limited, very “hip” menu, so went for banana bread and 2 x waffles with a tea and 2 hot chocolates. Service wasn’t great, stood at counter ignored for a while, tea delivered without milk or sugar/spoon, no apology or conversation. Nutella waffle was absolutely smothered and sickly. A little too dog friendly - Table next to us had a small dog on lap with paws on the actual table. £36 later and still hungry unfortunately.

A real asset to the Goosehill end of Castleton. A menu of real favourites and daily specials. Home cooked food done really well. Things you should definitely try. The hot roast pork sandwich. Packed with pork, complimented with sage stuffing and apple sauce. The Dolly’s all dayer breakfast. Possibly one of the finest breakfasts around. Local suppliers of pork sausage, thick cut and well cooked bacon, arranged perfectly on the plate with black pudding, grilled tomato, Derbyshire oat cake, fried egg, mushrooms and beans. Ask for a small pot of English mustard to go with it. The coffee is lovely but star of the hot brew are their teas. Lots of choice. If you pop in for breakfast, leave with a pasty for later… you won’t be disappointed. A great tearoom with lovely staff.
