Great community run cafe, serving a range of food and drink. The food was fresh, but you do have to be prepared to wait for a while as they are often a bit short of staff.

I and my friends have stayed here several times and it was always nice. Just before the pandemic I was due to receive visitors from Australia. Unfortunately with lockdown both in the UK and a stricter one in Australia they were not allowed to travel. Now that restrictions are lifted they arrive in the UK this Sunday. I contacted Robbie at the ramblers rest. Explained about the voucher which was out of date, and it was down to the pandemic. I asked if he would honour the voucher. He bluntly said,"NO" I was very disappointed and expected more from Robbie. So I have been left with a voucher costing over £100 that I can't use. You would hope that they would have been more understanding especially after the pandemic. It is a shame because the good memories of staying at the ramblers rest in castleton now don't don't mean anything.

What can I say. We stopped here today with our 1 year old as he needed lunch. Myself and parter ordered coffee, tea, scones & teacake whilst we fed our little boy his packed lunch. All the staff were excellent we were seated very quickly and the service was very swift and spot on perfect. Everyone was so polite and despite being very very busy they all had time to stop and chat to our boy and made us feel very welcome (as not all cafes do when they’re busy everyone is stressed and snappy). We only ordered simple snacks so they arrived promptly but I also noticed people around who had ordered meals and were served with the same exceptional manners and speed that we were. The menu does what you want it to do as a coffee shop/ tea room and is very reasonably priced. If ever back in Castleton I wouldn’t hesitate to call in even just for a simple coffee and say hi to the girls in there.

My mum and I visited here on a lovely sunny Sunday. We came across the Ramblers Rest just exiting from the back of the car park. It’s on a lovely quiet road next to a teeny tiny stream. We wandered past at first whilst we had a little wander around Castleton but soon realised they had the best location. The other eateries were centred around the road that runs through Castleton and it’s quite busy so we headed back to The Ramblers Rest. The menu is limited but that means that they can concentrate on the quality over quantity. My mum and I both opted for baguettes. Both were well filled and lovely and crunchy and came with salad, coleslaw and crisps. We then followed up with cake and coffee. Couldn’t resist the cakes, they just looked awesome and they completely delivered. The staff were super friendly and efficient. Would love to come visit here again. The seating area outside is cute and it’s a lovely peaceful place to hang out.

We had a drive in to Derbyshire today on a very busy bank holiday sunday with our two dogs. We found this lovely little place and the welcome notice said 'Muddy Paws & Boots Welcome'. My husband asked and indeed dogs were welcome. We had fantastic polite service, friendly and the most wonderful food, the hot cheese scone with cheese and pickle was heavenly! A rather grumpy lady and two men came in and had there meal and then she got up very abruptly scraping chairs and as she walked out she looked at us and said ......yapping dogs. I Knew my dogs were behaving well just as another dog who was in so I just replied saying, oh stop complaining. She exploded and started shouting at the top of her voice as she was leaving ''You dog owners think you own the place''. I think some of the poor waitresses got the rest of her anger as she left as they were serving outside, I could still hear her shouting. The waitress couldn't apologise enough to us and explained it clearly says that dogs are welcome. I thought it was so nice of them, but they didn't need to.There are very few places left these days that allow dogs, most places don't. So I say to that grumpy lady firstly, you were in Derbyshire walking and hiking country. people take their dogs and there will always be many there. Anyone who are not dog lovers or alergic to them should not choose a dog friendly place to eat, there are far more places that don't allow dogs than do so realy there is no reason to delibrately choose dog friendly. I also say to Ramblers Rest, please don't ever change because of the odd complainer, you are doing a fantastic job and we will be back. :)

I had visited previously and sat outside in the sunshine on the small balcony that is situated by a small stream. With the weather not as pleasant we took our Australian friends inside and they were so impressed they insisted calling again the next day. Unfortunately I didn't look at the menu so cannot comment on the menu. The 5 or 6 rooms were fully booked. We met both the proprietors on different days. Both were chatty amusing and very helpful.

We dropped by as the entry on Trip Advisor stated that this little cafe had 'vegan options'. It's a beautiful little establishment, traditional and quaint with a tiny outdoor seating area. The vegan options are virtually non existent, soup and a black Americano coffee was the best we could manage ( the soya only comes in individual portions so a cappuccino isn't even an option) That said the soup was tasty and a decent portion. For those with dairy intolerance and those opting for a vegan life it would be nice to see more being available.

We arrived in Castleton hoping to find a quaint little tea room or cafe to have lunch. We came across a sign on the walk in to town had our sock blown off by this tiny place tucked away down a little side street. The service was quick and friendly by a waitress that was happy and pleasant. In our party was one fussy customer, but nothing was too much trouble. The food was incredible, gorgeous sandwiches, crisp dressed salad and a slice of moist cake bigger than Mam Tor itself. The only shame is that we can only rate this place a five, it deserves more.

Owners live next door so are close-by if needed, but without being intrusive, and meant arrival time was flexible;Robbie was friendly and welcoming, helped with luggage and a few suggestions on local eating options; he provided a delicious cooked breakfast in the morning; he was even able to offer use of a shower later after a hard day's cycling and before a long drive home that was much appreciated. Ample car parking. Bedroom and ensuite shower room were clean and compact but equipped with all that was needed; water was hot and plentiful, double bed was comfortable and a decent size, decor was fresh and light; low sloping ceiling, exposed beams and good lighting added to the charm and character.

Tucked away in a corner of Castleton.Made very welcome by the staff and enjoyed a cream tea with fresh warm scones. After our cream tea arrived, the table across spied on us and they decided to order the same.

Happened to see a sign saying cake and coffee £3.50 or something, but I chose a scone and that wasn't in the offer (so service was a little bit strange from the lady) BUT it was so tasty and the coffee was fresh tasting too. Sat outside, but it looked cosy inside too. Imagine it will get claustrophobic in summer... but in March it was delightful!

Visited this lovely little place on Friday and I honestly couldn't pick a single fault. The food was delicious and very well priced we had already been into 3 other places n walked straight out because of how expensive the food was. The ramblers rest on the other hand was very reasonable, £8 something for a soup n sandwich combo and let me say it was no poxy little butty n half a bowl of tinned soup !! The soup was a gorgeous home made beauty seasoned to perfection and would of easily been enough on its own, however being our greedy little selves we still managed to polish off the sandwich as well. Perfectly cooked bacon slapped between two doorstop sized slices of bread absolute heaven. The woman who severed us who I presume was the owner or manager was wonderful, greeted us with a smile and was more than happy for us to open up the box of board games and have a game of cards whilst we waited for the food. Surprisingly we only got one game finished as the service was very speedy. If we ever want to spend a night or weekend in hope valley this is definitely where we will be staying and we will definitely be back again for lunch. Ow I almost forgot to mention one of our group has food allergies and this was not a problem at all she even came back to make sure that all the sides to the meal would be ok as they had mayonnaise in.

Having had a very long walk, we came down off the hill in need of a cuppa. I remembered seeing the Rambler's Rest last time we were in Castleton so decided to give it a try. The cafe is lovely, we sat outside across te road in the garden next to the stream which was pretty and very calming. Great portion sizes on the cake ( my husband and I struggled to finish), slight criticism no Gluten Free cakes available mean my son had a bowl of crisps, but staff were happy to do this. Good size pot of tea. Will visit again.

Stopped for a quick lunch and enjoyed the soup, toasted teacake and a slice of coffee cake. The bread roll with the soup was like concrete but was instantly replaced by a couple of slices of bloomer. The cups have a "Heavenly Coffee" logo and my americano proved the point. We sat by the window at what was a treadle sewing machine table, which was a first for us. Staff were friendly and attentive.
