Food was OK. The menu is quite limited, especially for breakfast, and it's expensive - £6 for a small bacon roll (no additions available eg. Sausage, egg etc) and £6.50 for granola and yoghurt. I think there are better cafés in the area.

Lured here by my sister with the promise of cake and tea after a “Gentle Stroll” (spoiler alert: it was neither gentle nor a stroll)! Soothed the trauma with extraordinarily generous portions for lunch and a great choice of cakes. It was so good we came back the next day to buy some Bakewell Slices to take home with us!

Yes, very nice, very good, very pleasant. Food and drink all very acceptable. For the price I would perhaps have expected a bit more bang for my buck as it were -- perhaps a ciabatta rather than two slices of bread for the sandwich, but all very nice, and good friendly service plus clean toilets. Puzzled the door was wide open on a not very warm day. But all in all very pleasant.

Very strange menu. Trying to emulate a New York diner - but missing! Good coffee but my toasted Brooklyn sandwich seemed to have been left to get cold and then reheated just before serving. My partner's mushrooms in mustard sauce were large field mushrooms with a sauce which had been dribbled on after cooking. Oh and they were nearly cold. It's in a great spot opposite the village car park and the guy is trying hard but he would do better just to keep it simple.

Ordered for onion bhaji sandwich. £9 a piece. Really uncooked onion bhaji. Had to throw away onion bhaji and ate bread. The staff offered to refund some amount, but i had not paid the amount so though it wd b perhaps £3-4 so didnt bothered to ask for refund. Later i learnt it was £9 and i really felt i must write this review. Whoever is going to order onion bhaji. PLZ DONT! Had i was been aware of the price of £9.00 per sandwich i wd have asked for 100% refund on both sandwiches. Its not the amount paid but the feeling f disappointment is almost like getting cheated when bad food is served. What is surprising is the staff mentioned, no one reported that before! I am not sure if people really like that raw taste of uncooked onion bhaji, or people who ordered that dish before, hv no idea of what is real taste of onion bhaji is. Overall - very very disappointed

Four of us came here for an informal lunch - and a good one too. It’s a popular place but we found a big table with a couple of minutes - it was Sunday lunchtime so we did well. Excellent choices on the menu: two of the party had mushrooms on sourdough which were delicious and substantial. I wanted to try the Kim-Cheese toastie but this inspired option had been so popular that they’d run out of kimchi: it was still tasty, and still had the wasabi edge as promised. We must try it at home :) A great little place, reasonably priced, with dead friendly staff: we’ll undoubtedly be back.

Beautiful gluten free cheese on toast! Such a change from ‘we have brownies?’ Speaking as a type 1 diabetic and a coeliac, it’s difficult to find something suitable. Somewhere on this planet is the man who created Brian’s cheese and chutney sandwich and gifted the recipe to this lovely cafe in the rather unprepossessing village of Hope in the Derbyshire Peak District. We stumbled on the cafe while killing time between bus (every two hours) and train (one per hour). Thank you Brian. Your sandwich was so delicious we ended up missing the train. Always remembered this as Woodbine Cottage Cafe, which was perfect for a toasted tea cake and a brew,at very reasonable prices. So called in here thinking this would still be available, but not the case,so ordered a toastie which I thought would come with at least abit of side salad or crisps for the price…£6.50.I ordered Brian’s chutney and when it arrived it was just a small two sliced very very well done, cheese and chutney toasted sandwich, with no garnish and very poor presentation. My husband and daughter had bacon sandwiches which looked very nice.Overall we had three sandwiches, two coffees and a can of coke and two pieces of cake and came to the overall grand total of £38.00 !! In my opinion quite an expensive lunchtime snack, especially as you had to order everything off the app, which is ok if you have a mobile phone with you,and pay that way too,a very impersonal, way of making money without having to do it the normal way,and serve people.Overall the food was average, prices, (for what you got),above average, and the way of ordering and the service below average.I don’t like having to leave negative reviews, but I felt very disappointed, and the ordering system really needs to change, people want the personal touch when they go out,it’s no longer necessary to carry on the COVID way.

We decided to drive out to this cafe from Stockport on Sunday 7/7/19.We arrived to no welcome, menu is limited when looking for healthy options. A good point is the blackboard that states local suppliers. I opted for the Avocado on sourdough & flat white my husband opted for the cheese & onion toastie plus a pot of tea. My husband went to order & pay and before he came back to the table a young girl arrived to inform us that my choice was off the menu. The young girl asked if I would come to the till to order an alternative and sort out the difference in cost. I ordered a cheese & ham toastie which was ok but far too much cheese for both of us and greasy. The coffee was delicious. We thought about having a cake but the cabinet was nearly empty and what was there was not appealing.Customer service aspect of our visit rates at zero due to being unfriendly and the young lad clearing the tables had reprimanded the girl 3 times in front of others whilst we kept refilling our water glasses. Very unprofessional and not fair on the girl who was nervous when she arrived at our table. The lad clearing the tables had no smile and no interaction with anyone not even eye contact. We left without a goodbye or thank-you from anybody. We then went into Castleton and went into another cafe and had tea & cake, it was worlds apart. We both have 35+ years each of customer service skills and number one rule is make sure the customer feels valued and you are grateful for their custom.

I plumped for a bacon and egg barm cake and a double espresso. Coming in at about £7-£8 I was hoping for amazement. It wasn't amazing but was good...espresso was made using decent beans...the barm cake was big, the egg was good and the bacon was hard and crispy and streaky (fortunately I like it that way) So all in all a decent cafe if not a little on the expensive side for what you get.

A quaint looking cafe with lovely friendly staff and a nice vibe. Unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. I had seen pictures and reviews online and was really keen to visit to refuel after a long run. Sadly the food was greasy, stodgy, a bit underwhelming and over priced for what it was. I had a Derbyshire oatcake which had the thickest layer of slimy fatty cheese on top - great if you like that kind of thing, but I don't. I scraped most of it off and was left with cheese grease on everything, and there was only one oatcake which seemed insufficient for the price. My husband had a toastie - again very greasy. It looked like it had been deep fried. So if your tempted in by the pictures of nice salads I wouldn't bother, but if you fancy a bit of stodge it's perfect. The cakes looked good, so perhaps they are worth a try.

We were pleased to find the Grasshopper Café when in search of 'tea and cake' at the tail end of the day.The cake offering was looking pretty diminished by that point but there was still a choice. The relative lack of cake meant some of us opted for Hope Valley ice cream which offered a good range of flavours. Fortunately a member of staff pointed out some that weren't labelled and some that were running low. A good range of soft drinks and tea in pots. I wasn't taking too much notice of prices but not particularly cheap. Nice crockery and friendly atmosphere, dogs welcome. This used to be The Woodbine, which was OK at best, but usually pretty poor on every level, from quality of ingredients to the service and portions. What a difference the new owners have made - it's now friendly and cosy with a limited but very attractive range of fresh food. This is possibly the best coffee in the valley. It's difficult to fault this place, maybe the whole menu pricing thing where something costs "6.5" is a bit weird and city centrey, but that's just me. The avocado thing is a revelation. I had really high hopes for this cafe. It's a really nice rustic looking place and dog friendly. Found the menu to be very limited, particularly poor choice of sandwiches, pretty much only cheese or cheese and ham toasties, which was a shame as we fancied something healthier. Can't fault the cheese and ham toastie it was tasty but it was overpriced served with a few crisps and a blob of unpalatable coleslaw.... a nice bit of fresh green salad would have been much better. We didn't bother with coffee and cakes as cake slices were so small and measly looking. Such a shame.

You are never greeted with a smile from the male in charge, just indifference verging on a haughty attitude.Very poor choice menu. No children focussed food. Ridiculous prices. £6.50 for a grilled cheese and ham sandwich & a blob of badly made coleslaw. Luke warm coffee in cups that belong to a doll's tea-set. A limited selection of sad looking 'cakes'cut into minute portions. Everything vastly overpriced. Incredibly slow service for a virtually empty cafe. I've given tjis cafe 3 chances - hoping things would improve but they seem to have got worse. Will not be returning.

We were in the area and, although we've had breakfast there, we hadn't tried lunch. Quite a limited menu, but having had an American-style fried sandwich elsewhere, wanted to try the Grasshopper sandwich. You certainly need to have a healthy appetite for the ham and cheese one - very substantial! It was lovely to sit outside in the rear garden.

A very welcoming place, where I stopped briefly for coffee; this was the smoothest, best coffee I had in a long time. Many high street coffee shops serve a coffee which tastes burnt and bitter- this, instead, was exactly what I hope for when I buy a cup of coffee. Some tables where to eat what looked like delicious home made treats; the friendly owner told me they have a wood oven and they will soon be making pizzas! A rare gem to find real coffee and real wood oven pizzas! Will be worth the long trip here again.

6 people stopped for breakfast (2 vegan meals) everyone loved the food and drink, price was good considering the quality of food. the café looks great, lots of interesting books to browse. Also the waiter that served us gave us good advise on where we should head and visit nearby (we went to Eyam the plague village). strongly recomend

We went here for breakfast. No welcome as we came in as the till is at the back of the shop. Hard to tell if we had to go to the till to order or if they came to us. Nice quirky looking place but some of the practicality of things was lost for aesthetics (such as bathroom taps, tables not long enough to get two peoples food on, no extra chair at window seat). These are obviously all minor things but good for owner to consider for improvement. We had the breakfast, which was good quality produce. We did ask for toast as an extra, because we are common and just felt like it needed it, but that’s just our personal preference. Would have liked a sausage. Coffee was really nice. Staff were friendly and brought our dog a bowl of water. Overall nice breakfast just few minor niggles.

Fab variety rather than the usual menus out there. Love the up to date approach to eating and thoroughly enjoyed my delicious well priced breakfast. Had a sneaky suspicion my Greek yogurt was the phoney Greek style stuff but the granola was spot on. Would defo go again.

Decor was really lovely and unique. Service great. We only had teas and coffees. No cakes unfortunately. We sat outside as it was sunny. Mocha wasn't chocolatey enough. Defiantly worth a visit

Just had a breakfast on the elevated patio behind the cafe with a view of the hills on a hot summer morning. The meal was adapted to suit my gluten and wheat free requirements. I usually have to give caterers the third degree to assure myself of their understanding of my requirements. Not so at the Grasshopper! Information about limiting gluten contamination was volunteered and all my questions answered before they had been asked. So reassuring! And the breakfast was excellent too.

Stopped for lunch while out biking with friends. Quite a small cafe, only a few tables inside but there is some outdoor seating too. Short menu with a few veggie options (and they say they can do vegan and gluten free on request). I tried the veggie "Derbyshire oatcake". A first for me (it turned out to be fairly similar to a French galette, with spinach, mushrooms and cheese - very tasty). Good selection of teas (loose leaf), usual coffees and some interesting cans (the sparkling rhubarb drink was refreshing). Service was good and they made sure we knew when placing our orders that ther would be a bit of a wait as everything is done to order and a lot of customers had arrived just before us.

Stopped here for lunch. Staff were pleasant. Food was good. Not a huge menu but well priced. We both had the pull pork roll which was very good. A few seats outside in the front and some seating inside.

This is a lovely little café where, for the first time we've experienced in ages, the teapot had proper loose tea in it. The staff are friendly and helpful, and you can sit outside in a small garden. Definitely a good place to relax after a walk in this beautiful area.

We visited the cafe yesterday. My boyfriend had obviously been before as he made a bee line for it and said the food was great. We ordered a pea and mint soup each and my boyfriend had a cheese and caramelised onion grilled sandwich too. The soup was amazing, so tasty and the sandwich tasted devine. The surroundings were great too, very quirky. I loved the travel books which you could browse through. There was some great music on too, loud enough so you could enjoy it, but not too loud you couldn’t hear yourself think. Service and value for money were both great. I’d definitely recommend this little gem to anyone wanting a bite to eat.

We tried to come here in winter but it was closed for the season. We came back in April to discover a lovely cafe with great brunch and lunch choices. I had the pulled pork and slaw sandwich on brioche which was great and my partner had the pea and pint soup. Both very pleased and we will be definitely be regular visitors!

Never open at the correct times. Visited three times over the same week and waited 30-60 minutes before giving up and climbing nearby Mam Tor as they were not open even though they said they were.
