Harvey Leonard's Wine & Ale in High Peak

Visited here 17th April late afternoon. Have been a few times before and enjoyed it. My wife and I ordered a bottle of wine between us from the bar. £28 it was. I am fine with that. But towards the end of the bottle I noticed on the wine racks where bottles of wine are for sale the same bottle. All bottles have two prices , a take out price and a " drink in " price. Understandable. The bottle in question had a take out price of @ £6.50 and a "drink in " price of @ £21.50. I wonder why I was charged £28. There is a sign saying corkage will be charged but is not corkage the difference between the two prices? The barman who served me was not around for the last 10 minutes we were there so I could not ask him. I was not going to cause any fuss with the younger members of staff there so we finished the bottle and left. I wouldnt mind someone explaining these price differentials to me. Otherwise we are reasonable fans of this bar.

This place could have been great, but the lack of service and basic customer care was shocking—especially considering the number of staff wondering around in silence. The one who did speak seriously need to learn some manners and proper customer service skills. From the start, the experience was frustrating due to staff members who seemed completely disengaged. When an issue arose with the order, instead of handling it professionally, the woman who dealt with the complaint chose to be dismissive and rude. Rather than listening to what was being said, she rolled her eyes, refused to acknowledge the actual problem, and then twisted the situation to make it seem like customers were attacking her—when in reality, no one raised their voice, no one was aggressive, and no one ‘piled on’ her. We were simply trying to clarify a mistake that she refused to acknowledge. Mistakes happen, but the way they’re handled makes all the difference. What’s worse is that incorrect orders aren’t just an inconvenience—they can be dangerous. Some people have allergies or dietary restrictions, and getting an order wrong can have serious consequences. Instead of recognising that, the woman took a defensive stance and acted as if she was the victim. Comping an order doesn’t fix bad service, especially when the attitude remains the same. A little professionalism, accountability, and basic respect for customers would go a long way. Until that happens, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for decent service.”

Excellent pub in heart of Glossop, just across the way from the train station. A good selection of real and Craft ales and a fantastic choice of cans/bottles are available to drink in or take away.

Interesting place to visit, quiet intimate atmosphere.

This is my favourite place to go to in Glossop. The quality and the choice of the drinks on offer is amazing. We regularly buy beer and wine from their "shop" to take out, as well as drinking in. All of the team are super friendly too!

Had a party for my daughter at Harvey Leonard’s this week. They were so helpful and it was a great evening. Everyone commented on how good the food was and the atmosphere. Found this place, rather than a Pub, lovely comfy seats in the busy bar. Great selection of Beers, Prosecco was lovely. We didn't eat, but the menu looked great, especially the Pizzas. I was told they are all homemade. Really a super place.

Very lively place in the centre of Glossop. They serve a great selection of beers and wines . Pizza is very popular being home made and baked. Pop in and find out for yourself.

We we recommended to try this place out, different from the pubs in Glossop. Busy, but found some comfortable settees at the rear of the place. Only had drinks, as food had finished...but the menu looked great. Lovely atmosphere.

Popped in after my sister had been raving about it and we were not disappointed! Right opposite the train station, so it's easy to get to. Definitely worth the train ride out if you fancy a bit of change. It gets very busy on a Saturday afternoon. Such a beautiful building and the food was AMAZING....

Great selection of craft beer and excellent wine. Also an off licence; wines purchased from this part of the business can be consumed on the premises subject to payment of a corkage fee. Good selection of snacks and charcuterie too!

Having changed the layout the whole vibe has improved greatly.. With more and smaller tables finding somewhere to sit is a lot better and the new menu is excellent. We’ll be back as soon as I find my wine card.

Warm friendly welcome everytime I come in. Delicious wines and great atmosphere. The young lady behind the bar, didn't catch her name, made me feel very welcome and relaxed after a stressful day at work. Very professional and kind. Another reason why I love this bar.

Harvey Leonard's is, by far, the best bar in Glossop (perhaps the best bar between here and central Manchester). Convenient location opposite the station, in the same building as the Crystal Ballroom. The staff at Harvey Leonard's are friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable about food and beverages. Beer election is exceptional (my brother said "better than anything in London"). Wines are also excellent, with a huge choice of wines (and indeed beers) that you can buy to take away. The food menu is small, but very good. Cheese and meat plates. Salads which are unbelievably good value for the size. Pizzas cooked in house. Music is good, a well-thought out playlist. I cannot fault anything about Harvey Leonard's and I would go every day if I could (although they are closed on Mondays!). Worth a trip to Glossop, give it a try!!!

Visited here whilst staying with friends in nearby Stalybridge. Following a long journey from Scotland. My wife and I were well impressed. Look forward to visiting again in our future.

Bar serves keg beers, spirits and wines. Cheese and charcuterie boards available to accompany your drink. Huge space with several distinct seating areas.

Unrivalled selection of wine and craft beer. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Comfy sofas, great bar snacks. Love it.

Good food, drinks and service. Reasonably good selection of wines and beers. Although our local wine shop does have a larger selection we did enjoy the wines. Enjoyed our visit and it's dog friendly too. Will go back.

Visited on Sunday with a group of 50 from Barnsley and were made very welcome. The staff were great, fantastic range of drinks to enjoy and the food looked delicious. Thanks for having us!

Great bar straight across the road from Glossop Train Station. Cool decor in this high ceiling room that used to be the Conservative Club. We had a glass or two of lovely Cava then a deep red Pinot Noir with a very tasty cheese board. Friendly staff who really know their stuff and a welcoming atmosphere - what more can you ask for? Oh and it’s part wine shop too so we bought a bottle of Bobal to take home and that was fantastic as well!

Came here for pre dinner drinks whilst visiting friends in Old Glossop.What a lovely find . This place sells wine during day time hours but also acts as a cafe bar and bar at night. Great looking place with a very vibrant atmosphere and people of all ages. Great selection of drinks and lots of places to sit. very friendly place and got talking to the locals quickly. would visit again

Having not visited here in an age it’s great to find that it’s not changed and that the wine and food are as great as ever. It’s not a restaurant so you don’t get a traditional meal but as snack to go with wine it’s absolutely amazing.

Great setting, visually enticing, a varied and interesting range of beers and wines and staff that are most courteous and polite. Travelled some distance to have a beer here on recommendation of a friend who frequents often. Well worth the journey, thanks all.

Really rude elderly woman behind the bar with a attitude when I said its abit quiet in here. There was nobody in at the time

I was in here a week or so ago with my extended family. Standing at the bar ordering a round of drinks and chatting to the barman asking him "why do you guys now have to wear a mask, and the clients don't" when another member of staff who was not involved with the conversation at all said "it's got absolutely nothing to do with you" in an extremely abrupt manner. I was shocked by her attitude to a conversation that didn't involve her at all. I replied "that was friendly then" to which she replied "it was, wasn't it" I get that people have good days and bad days, but to take out your frustrations on customers is not acceptable, no matter what the circumstances. This member of staff then stomped about the place like a spoilt child. Not impressed at all. I won't darken their door again.

Visited upon the recommendation of our Airbnb hosts, and so pleased that we did. The venue is dog friendly, and does not take bookings for couples or less than six. The interior decor is great and really inviting and on two walls are either Wine or Beer for sale. The wine's on offer via the card system are excellent (to the point that we bought one of the bottles that we tried). The beers on draught and behind the bar are well varied and the barman (sorry I didn't get your name) is very knowledgable and gives excellent advice. To top it off the meats/cheese on offer are very good. We ordered a four cheese, cheeseboard with bread and it was absolutely superb. I would recommend Harvey Leonard's in Glossop above any other establishment we visited in the local area.

Top class service, and I actually found someone to chat to whilst in there. So refreshing to not be stepped over by modern attitudes.

There are many excellent hostelries in Glossop but this place stands out among stiff competition. Unrivaled range of beers and wines, incredibly knowledgeable staff and a great atmosphere. Foods good too. Not to be missed.

We enjoyed a thoroughly fabulous night. My partner enjoyed a top class lager, while I enjoyed top class weissbier. The evening was only made better by "Paul", our waiter for the night. A totally fab guy, attentive to our every need. Keep hold of him....

Really lovely bar, very popular with an older crowd, not the sort of place you see a great deal of trouble. The vibe is a bit like the globe but posher, more monied and with less veganism.

Whilst visiting family in Glossop 8th July. We visited Harvey Leonards the bloke who served us was so rude never been treated like this by anyone in the business before, down right rude. Definitely won't be returning here. Our money will spend anywhere plenty other...
