This is my third time spanning about 50 years. Our tour guide Ryan was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Great value given the overall experience and the knowledge imparted. Our only regret was that we didn’t carry any change to add to the teams tip box.

Tour itself was informative however i arrived at 10am when website says its first tour leaves approximately 10am only to be told i cant go because i am on my own and i would need to wait for others to arrive and join them, website doesn't tell you this it does say tours leave every 20-30 mins but i had to wait an hour until 11am to join a group for the first tour of the day, why not let us pre book so you know what numbers are arriving and have a cut off so we are not stood around waiting. I pre booked at pooles cavern and was on the tour on time no matter what numbers turned up a far better experience

Cave is nice and the guide is very informative. But for me the price is expensive. Dont like the staff they seem rude especially the guy who i think owns the dog, staring at us and not even greet back. Except the lady on the tills when we bought ice cream who greeted us back when i said goodmorning. First time to encounter that we felt not welcome. Will not recommend at all.

Honestly, when we first arrived I thought "what a long trip to see such a sorrowfull looking little entrance shack, and expected nothing more than another rip off museum tour without much of note. there was a fifteen minute wait until the next tour, and honestly, despite the nice jewelerry and earings for sale though, the reception and shop made us feel like just driving off! anyway we paid for a tour, but there were no tickets given, and it all seemed a bit 'down at heel" really. I took a pee in the outside enclosed stainless trough which stunk of urine even though it was outside...and so all in all we were NOT IMPRESSED. HOWEVER, when we were asked through the entrance door by our guide "Brian" things got much better very quickly. it's a vast 50 minute tour which goes down about 100 metres (I think) and is an impressive sight. Details you would otherwise miss were skillfully pointed out by our guide Brian, who told us he also mines the blue john in tandem with giving tours. Personally I hate dogs, but my brothers dog was allowed on the tour, (which I think is wrong) in any event, I found it really educational and interesting . I would advise prospective customers to reserve judgement until after the tour...and I would strongly advise the management to make the extent of the tour more known, and to DEFINATELY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE AWFUL looking reception area. Try decent toilets, some waiting for the next tour chairs, and ask yourselves "why are we welcoming dogs on a cavern walk?" it is for obvious reasons unacceptable to most. Also get a payment card machine that WORKS..we almost drove for three hours to find we couldn't get in because we nearly never had enough cash! The card payment machine needs to be 100% working all the time. overall really enjoyed despite the shortcomings though.

Fantastic place and we had a guide who was patient, informative and projected their voice well. Only thing I’d say is it’s not great to call little girls sweetheart and darling if you’re then going to call the boys “Boss”. The guides were extremely friendly and were very keen to pass on their knowledge, not just of the cavern. But the whole area. With plenty of advice. The tour is really worth it. However, accessibility is restricted to quite a few tight steps down to the lower caverns. So be aware not for those with poor mobility. Personally, my favourite of the 4 show caverns in the area, and is very recommended.

What a wonderful experience this was for my family and I, especially for my 7-year-old child. Kevin, the tour guide, was absolutely fantastic - his thorough knowledge of the mines, coupled with his wonderful sense of humor, made the tour an absolute delight. Descending the 245 steps into the mine was quite an adventure. The first 90 steps were challenging, but each step taken was breathtaking, offering incredible views of the stunning Blue John caverns. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Blue John Mines, and this would not have been possible without Kevin's lovely personality and charming character. His passion for this historical site was evident throughout the tour, and he truly helped make it an unforgettable experience for our family. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Derbyshire. Thank you so much, Kevin, for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm with us. It was a pleasure to have you as our guide.

Very interesting and informative tour. Understood to be the best example on the UK of caverns formed by hydrothermal forces, creating spectacular subterranean spaces. And especially rare occurrence of feldspar (calcium carbonate) in blue-yellow colours from which the caverns get their name. This cavern is fascinating. 245 steps down and then back up. I visited a fair amount of caves, but this one was very different, and I would say one of my favourites. Our tour guide was very friendly and had many years of experience mining, he told us so much history, explained about minerals and fossils they found in this speciffic cave. What surprised me was the size of it, and the colours inside the cave were just wow, puctures dont do justice. At the bottom of it, we found a waterfall, which is fascinating as it was so deep underground. To get down there was fairly easy, slippery but easy, to go back up many people struggled, definitely need to be fairly fit to be able to do it. There is a shop and a small caffe, car park short walking distance on the hill, free of charge, but not very big though. Cavern visit definitely worth the money. Oh, and to mention the temperature down there is approx 8 degrees, when we visited it was warmer in the cave than outside 😊

A much recommended experience. Various areas of interest with different history and stories behind them explained well by the tour guide. I do not want to give spoilers but there is a lot of ancient history in the cavern. Nigel was a brilliant guide and with his story telling I could really imagine how the cavern would have been many years ago when miners were using it. There are a lot of steep steps some of which are a bit slippery or steep, but using the handrail anyone with moderate fitness won't struggle. It is very echoey down the cavern so not good for small children who may cry or scream. The price may seem quite high but it's definitely worth it as it's not something you do everyday and it will create good memories and there is a lot to learn about the cavern and our planet from the tour

Went to Blue john cavern with my husband as we had been staying in castleton seen the shop with the jewellery and trinkets etc and thought it would be great to visit the cavern to see the stone in its natural environment on entering the cavern entrance it was very unwelcoming( very dirty not anything like the website would suggest and I don't hold with excuses it's outside of season any attraction should have standards) going inside to the shop/ cafe the reception from the staff was even worse the woman behind the counter was very abrupt when my husband asked about the tour the response was £18 card or cash and leaves at quarter to and that was it then we had a quick look around the shop for my husband to ask the charismatic lady behind the counter where the toilets were to be told OUTSIDE ( no guidance) we then went on the tour which was not a great one down the steps in to some caves with a bit of the so called blue john cemented in to the wall only then to be informed by the guide the lady in the shop had spent the winter in one of the little dig outs in the cavern excavating blue john (maybe she left her manners and customer service skills in their when she exited the cavern) it was not the best but the worst of any attraction I have visited in this fair isle so far not worth £18 of anyone's money and on exiting my husband again went into the shop to get some water only to be greeted with (what do you want) well needless to say we were expecting great things from this experience but the only thing we took away is we won't be going back and would not advise anyone to visit very very very disappointing.

Visited the Blue John Cavern on a very wet Mother's Day, March 10th 2024, with my daughter, son-in-law and my grandchildren. We didn't have to wait very long for the tour to start. Our guide, Nigel, was very knowledgeable about the geological history of the caves as well as the history of lead mining & the discovery of the seams of Blue John. Amazing to realise this beautiful part of the Peak District is the only place in the world where Blue John can be found. This is the largest & deepest of the caves and visitors descend 70 metres so there are lots of steps, which you are warned about in advance. It's quite a trek coming back up all the steps but our party, ranging in age from 6-70, all managed fine. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Nigel looked after us and kept us entertained. All the Peak District caverns are worth visiting and each has unique features. Derbyshire is a beautiful county with diverse scenery & attractions - well worth visiting.

Enjoyed the experience of the Blue John Mines. Individuals need to be reasonably fit to do the tour. We enjoyed the spectacle of the mines but we found the tour guide: 1. Walked at a very fast pace & so we felt under pressure to keep up. 2. Appeared knowledgeable BUT spoke too fast & at the same tone & we felt very rushed. I think the tour guide desperately needs to go on a course for presentation skills as he raced through a very rehearsed script at a very monotonous tone. I thought the entrance fee was extremely expensive. We paid £50 for a family of four, which is a lot of money & makes it too expensive for a lot of families.

The iced coffee and brownie was amazing. The shop is small but has a great atmosphere and products. My friend had a sandwich and it was great!

Sadly, this lovely little store and coffee shop has re-located to Glossop. I'm sure it will be missed.

I love this place so much!!! The food is amazing and mark is extremely nice and accommodating. The blonde waitress is extremely friendly and pretty had a good chat with her and she recommended us some lovely walks around the area. She was one of the best waitresses we have ever had, definitely recommend, she can pour a good Guinness ❤️

Went to grab a drink after I got to Glossop with a friend. Happy to be told it was happy hour 5pm-7pm so cocktails for £5. Not a single one was bad but the highlight has to be the strawberry daiquiri, seriously good.
