The Bay Tree Tea Room & Gifts in High Peak

Na een flinke ochtend hiken in de omgeving van Castleton terecht gekomen bij The bay tree. We werden zeer vriendelijk ontvangen door de gastheer en kregen binnen een tafeltje toegewezen. We kozen voor de hightea. Deze was heerlijk. Onder andere scones, drie soorten sandwiches en enkele gebakjes maakte hier onderdeel van uit. Erg lekker, al was het wel wat veel. We kregen dit bij lange na niet op met twee personen, terwijl het voor ons ook een soort lunch was. Tijdens onze high tea werd er diverse keren gevraagd door het personeel of alles nog in orde was, erg attent en vriendelijk. Zeker een aanrader.

Really lovely tearoom, the food was delicious. Lovely home made scones, tomato pesto and mozzarella panini was very tasty with delicious home made coleslaw. I had the Black Forrest hot chocolate which was one of the nicest hot chocolates I've ever tasted. Friendly staff, very clean. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing tea room, deceptively big, most of the seating is behind the gift shop so don't be deterred if there is no room up front. The staff are very welcoming and efficient. We had cooked breakfasts and they looked and tasted great using top quality ingredients. I also tried the Nutella Mocha new to the menu and it's a absolutely delicious! Our go-to from now on when we visit Castleton, thanks very much Bay Tree!

I have had warmer beer than the coffee in this place,luke warm,had to ask for sugar which i never got,dirty tables,service terrible,rubbish.

Lovely little cafe where I got a takeaway tea and slice of Bakewell tart to eat sitting on a bench of theirs outside. The staff were so friendly, and very accommodating to my specific request for a middle slice, not an edge!

I didn't eat/drink but just wanted to thank the staff for being so welcoming and kind when I asked for some tap water for my water bottles on a hot day

Stopped for coffee and cake after a long walk, ended up having a sundae and iced latte and they were to die for. Highly recommend. With lovely, friendly staff

Just popped in, it was a super busy Monday with the sun out and lots of school trips but the kind gentleman still managed to seat us and our 3 dogs we were served promptly and the food was exactly what we were looking for without breaking the bank

Called in with family Staff very welcoming and friendly. Efficient service even though busy Tables not crammed in so very comfortable Had 7 lunches and drinks and all fresh and excellent Reasonable prices Definitely will return

Called in and 7 of us ate lunch Staff were friendly and thoughtful. Quick service to order. Variety of food ordered, salads, ploughmans, panini jackets potatoes and all were excellent and good value . Clean place and tables were placed with room around. Definitely recommend

Was here for afternoon tea. Fabulous place. Finally a tea room that does cider. I hate tea, and I hate cream scones so I was delighted to have a huuuuuge cheese scone and a pint in the sunshine on their front patio. Staff are great 10/10 looks like some nice posh sandwiches too.

Terrible sausage rolls with a tiny finger of sausage meat and soggy pastry which had been heated in a microwave. Slow service and poor payment arrangements. Sad overall.

Great place to visit after a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Peak District. Set in the beautiful village of Castleton, it's in an ideal location for keen walkers and cyclists. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and offer a very tempting menu of snacks, cakes and lunches suitable for different dietary requirements, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan. It also has a lovely shop offering a wide variety of gifts. Well worth a visit.

Lovely little tea and gift shop. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Offering to move tables around for us. We all had scones and my friend was delighted to find she could join us as they had gluten free scones. They were delicious . They also sell really lovely gifts. Highly recommend.

Cafe and gift shop with friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. We had breakfast there and all food and drinks were delicious. There's plenty of choice on the breakfast menu. Especially nice were the poached eggs on toast and the Full English breakfast. All portions were generous. Would love to return when we are next in the area.

Visited for lunch after a long afternoon of hiking Mam Tor and surroundings. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with great background music, generous sandwich portion (I had tuna mayo), vegan chocolate pecan brownie was delicious and loved their tea (pear and ginger). Paid about £15 for a pot of tea, brownie and sandwich which was fair. You’d be silly to not visit this place if you’re in the area.

What a welcome find to escape a rainy morning. Staff were very welcoming, tea and cake was needed. My husband had traditional cream tea and scones was fresh and tasty really lovely with clotted cream. I had tea with huge slice of Bakewell tart. Had to wrap half of it in napkin to take away for later! Lovely gifts too, purchased two little gifts to take to friends in New Zealand. Highly recommend.

*very expensive shops(One cone ice cream £3.20..) *very slow service *No milk free,(for kids)or vegan ice cream *I was asking to do milkshake and we got a not cold (room themreture),milky 3xpressed with syrup drink for £5

Had a good lunch here midway through the hike. Recommend the tuna cheese panini. Friendly staff and good vibes here.

The oat milk mocha was very very good, best one I’ve had and I didn’t even have to pay extra for the oat milk 😫👍🏻

Lovely coffee (cappuccino with real chocolate sprinkles 👍) and homemade scones. Lots of gift ideas also. Friendly service and lovely atmosphere.

Not a friendly place at all. I was just walking my Labrador puppy, he pooed on the edge of the path to this cafe, I immediately picked it up, and then the owner came out and rudely said “Not a good place for that, is it?” I apologised politely and he aggressively shook his head at me. This is NOT the way to cultivate a friendly community atmosphere and I would recommend steering clear if you want a welcoming environment and a place that welcomes well behaved dogs in its near vicinity.

Best Mocha I have ever tasted and the atmosphere and staff was second to non. We will definitely be back.

What a lovely cafe in the heart of the peak district. Had a pot of tea and a slice of homemade cake which was delicious. Would definitely visit again

A bitingly cold morning in Castleton saw me in this little cafe on Back Street. Combining cafe and gift shop this is probably a major part of the local economy now that the village has lost its population to the tourist industry. Many years ago there used to be villagers living here. The coffee ☕️ was very welcome and it had a light and delicate flavour. I can't comment on the food because of specific dietary requirements, but people seem to like scones and sandwiches. There's plenty of room inside and further seating in a room just around the corner in a separate room.

Lovely little cafe with friendly staff snd a nice cosy atmosphere. There are light lunch options and a great selection of cakes, scones etc. They also do ice creams. Coffee was good and they had non-dairy milks available. There were gluten free and vegan cake options too.

The cappuccino is too good here . Taste is so good and the best one in UK !!!!

Had a lovely walk around Higger Tor. Decided to get coffee and cake and thought more choice would be available in Castleton. Drove through Castleton and glad to see that we were still in time for The Bay Tree. I ordered a cream tea and my my wife a millionaire's shortbread. Both were excellent and the staff really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back on our next Peak District walk.

Good location, went to have brunch after a hike on mam tor. Service was lovely and prompt. Food was excellent, so was the affogato.

I had the prosciutto, goat cheese and fig jam Panini with a chai latte. Both were delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful! I sat outside. Lovely area. Highly recommend!!

Delicious brie & bacon panini sat outside in the sunshine. Lovely menu choices and very friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and lovely toilets. Happy to recommend a shop off.

I was hiking in Derbyshire today and stopped off at the Bay Tree for a mid-hike snack. I received a warm friendly greeting, the afternoon tea was delicious and the gift shop is just wonderful. I’ll be stopping by again soon.

We were first time in the area and were looking for a place to get some coffee. We couldn't find a better spot. Lovely cafe/gift shop. I did like the fencing theme at the back, great history and sport. The waffle I have managed to pinch from my daughter was amazing. Will definitely return if in the area again.

We briefly stopped here to grab a bite before starting our trail in Castleton🏞️ 🍰Nice little café serving light meals, coffees, cold drinks, afternoon tea, and cakes. ☕ We loved the foamy Cappuccino with the chocolate flakes on top😋 🥖 The panini with mozzarella, tomato, and pesto was nice but the pesto they used wasn't that great. 🥧 The coffee and walnut cake was a nice treat. 🥰 Very friendly and attentive staff. 🎁 They also have a gift shop on site.

After a walk up to Mam Tor we were in need of tea and cake...and stumbled across the Bay Tree cafe and gift shop. What a gem! Really friendly and welcoming owner who suggested some walks, delicious carrot cake, loose leaf tea option and a great little gift shop with things you actually want to buy! Will be back in July (hoping to have an answer to my Peacock pub question! 😆).

What a lovely place to have a quick bite and some coffee. They had some delicious cakes as well, but I'll have to come back for that. I had the tomato, basil and mozzarella panini and it was delicious. Would totally recommend it! They have dairy alternatives for your coffee as well. Very welcoming tearoom and gift shop. We started by having coffee and an early lunch in the tearoom part of the shop. Friendly staff without being too overbearing. Good choice on the menu. Quick service. Good food. Reasonable prices. In the gift shop there was a good range of unusual Christmas tree decorations, and other gifts that are not the usual run of the mill. Will definitely return the next time we visit Castleton.

Been in twice now. Both times a lovely welcome and the food was very good, tasty and fresh. Will be our go to place when we are in the area.

Came here for breakfast this morning before going a walk up Mam Tor and both me and my partner had great breakfasts. He had a full English, I had the breakfast wrap and both were so good. Amazing sausages and bacon, really nicely cooked, best breakfast I’ve had in a long time, plus lovely friendly service in a lovely setting. Definitely recommend!

We were made to feel very welcome after a long walk up and down MamTor. Delicious coffee and a very generous helping of bakewell tart. Will definitely revisit ony my next trip to Castleton.

This is an amazing little place, in the heart of Castleton. With seating both inside and outside. There is an lovely air of tranquility and peacefulness here. The owner and staff are extremely welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Without doubt the best part is the array of food cake and drinks that are on the menu pages. We had the, Lemon 🍋 and coconut Bakewell slice...and Boy was it good! Try it for yourself. There is plenty to choose from, if you don't like this particular choice of ours. So go on give it a try, You won't be disappointed here. Highly recommended.

Amazing coffee, great outdoor seating and very friendly staff.

After having explored Mam Tor and the great Ridge we drove down to Castleton in search for a well deserved lunch. We happened by this outdoor seating and having observed that they were following all the safety and track and trace protocols. We ordered hot drinks (espresso and flat white) and breakfast food (Full English and a sausage and egg sandwich). The drinks arrived promptly, but the food was very delayed and we were very hungry. It took a while for the staff to realize that they had forgotten our food and since we were waiting they offered us some complimentary drinks. The food arrived shortly after that, and it was quite tasty. A good experience overall, and we didn't mind too much having to wait in a place to rest our worn out feet for a while.

We stopped here for lunch but opted for the all day breakfast which was excellent. It was not on the menu but they also did an excellent veggie breakfast for my wife. Nice and airy inside and friendly attentive staff.

I was bought an afternoon tea for two voucher as a birthday present - and found the experience and food to be exceptional. The service was very quick too! Would definitely recommend - wonderful place and friendly staff.

Was looking for bite to eat and came across this find today. Lovely panini and scones to follow. Excellent. Staff friendly. Lovely shop with unusual gifts in. It’s a definite try for anyone and our dogs were allowed too!
