A really delightful evening ... food was delicious; wine pairing was delicious ... all made even better by Lucy and her team who made us feel as if we were the only guests on the boat!! Thank you!!

Emma provided a FABULOUS spread for 120 people following a funeral at Stoke Gabriel church. Everyone was catered for and the food was exceptional, most notably the crab cakes, samosas and scones, with jam and cream of course. Aunt and uncle have lived in the village for more than 50 years and have dined at Emma’s many times, always speaking MOST highly of the restaurant, food and Emma herself. Thank you!

Went for a hike nearby and then had an early dinner at the restaurant. Was really delicious! :) Our first time here and we will definitely be back. Plenty of parking on the main high street as well.

We booked for 4 nights bed and breakfast and had the Churchill Suite. On arrival we were shown our room and told we had a fan! The suite is large but partially underground which we knew about before we booked so we’re not put off by it and adequate lighting in the room made up for the lack of natural light. There are two built in wardrobes a large bed and lovely bathroom. The soft furnishings are all beautiful. The “little touches of indulgences’ were disappointing they consisted of ghastly biscoff biscuits you usually get at cafes with a cup of coffee not the homemade shortbread we were expecting. Complimentary bottles of water and toiletries mainly in large dispensers on the wall. There are no nice touches in the room just furniture. If you sit on the sofa with a drink one person has to put their cup on the floor, as there is not side table. The room was clean apart from cobwebs hanging from wall lights and a horrid mark on the wall in the bathroom by the toilet……. On our third day we arrived back to the hotel around 5pm only to find our room had not been serviced! My partner went to reception to let them know and they told him we must have left the do not disturb notice out! Which we did not……. Anyway they rallied round and gave us a full set of clean towels and clean mugs etc. which was good of them but left us asking is this really a four star hotel? The breakfast is wonderful the tables laid out very nicely everything cooked is to order and served at your table. We had a dinner one night in the restaurant and it was a true delight the food and wine all good and the service was great apart from one young girl took our bread basket and bread plates away whilst we were still enjoying it……. We never made a fuss at the time.. We put it down to nerves……… On our last day we went down to breakfast having not been able to get to sleep because of stomping in the function room above. There seemed to be a large business group arrived the day before. They were all in the breakfast room which was full and we ordered our cooked breakfast my partner had his usual full English and I asked for scrambled egg mushroom and Rosti It arrived all of it over cooked and no rosti. I said to the waitress not to worry but she said no I will go and get it. It arrived 10 minutes later….. by then we had finished what we could eat from the burnt breakfast and left. Very disappointed again. We used the bar area every evening and ordered bar snacks and drinks the first night we were there was great but the other nights we had to go and search for someone each time we wanted a drink or something. We felt a little bewildered by it all as the reviews and the website seemed to give a much different picture in our heads than what we experienced. We always choose four and five star hotels when we go away but to us this one felt below par. I think in the future we will not choose a hotel that is used as a function space as any individuality seemed to be missing. It’s a shame that we unfortunately experienced several mishaps during what could have been a memorable experience.

After a recommendation we hired the Brewery Tea Rooms for a reception after my sister’s funeral. We cannot fault the kindness, attention to detail and the service we received from the ladies at the Tea Room on what was inevitably a difficult day. All the food was very freshly made and tea and coffee in plentiful supply. The Brewery Tea Rooms met our needs perfectly and we can highly recommend a visit. Thank you so much ladies for all your efforts on our behalf.

Amazing dining experience. Staff couldn’t be any more helpful or attentive. Food was to die for and so reasonably priced. Butter & Sage spatzel is to die for

Visiting Halstead as a stopover before a family wedding in the local area, we arrived at lunchtime looking for somewhere to eat. A local suggested The Little Book Cafe. We both selected a breakfast as we were very hungry caterpillars or should that be Bookworms? We were not disappointed. A really genuine welcome, friendly service, excellent quality hot food and drinks. We could not have done better. Tucked away just off the main street in Halstead, opposite the Baptist Church, we would recommend this for a visit.

Out for a walk around Lyme Regis & we followed the River Lim Trail. We noticed the Black Dog tearooms on one of the information boards & decided to pay a visit. We were so glad we did as our lunch was delicious. Homemade soup served with lovely homemade bread made using flour from the Town Mill. The cakes looked wonderful so we couldn't resist a slice of lemon & raspberry sponge for afters. It's certainly on our list of places to visit again especially as it was an easy walk from Lyme Regis.
