The best restaurants in United Kingdom

Had lunch here and the food was amazing. Steak cooked to perfection. We were served by Sean and he was really attentive and friendly. We had a lovely time, definitely will be back again.

We used to live in the area and the Fish & Chips were so good and the mature gentleman that run it was a delight. Being in the area last night and 9.30pm we thought we would chance going there to grab supper, we ordered small cod, large haddock and chips (£26) and we were not disappointed. The fish was fat and filling and the chips not greasy and did not repeat on us like some fried food did. Highly recommended and although it’s a 30 min drive away from home we would go back. It’s lovely to see if it’s changed hands they kept the cooking process to the exact high standards as 10 years ago and customer service is strong. [Rarity to find this these days] Highly recommended and 10🌟

I've given 5 stars to other York restaurants, but this was easily the best of the lot. You could walk past the place and not know it was there, but head down the stairs and you enter a warren of brightly painted and elaborately decorated rooms, full of tables full of people. Once seated, the menu presents you with a difficult choice. We duly chose and certainly did not regret any of our choices. Every dish was of a sensible portion size, beautifully cooked and intensely flavoured. One of our party has Tiramisu whenever it is on the menu and he said the one here was the best he has ever had. Should also mention the staff who were rushed off their feet but remained efficient, attentive, chatty and all smiles. I can't fault the place. I think I'm going to move to York!

I order from Jaflong Tandoori all the time and the food is always delicious, hot and on time, if not early. The drivers are always very polite and professional. Adam delivered mine this time and was polite, as usual.

Having been to 1 and 2 star restaurants we booked here to break out 3* virginity. We honestly were not sure what to expect - how much better can it be? Well… The food is absolutely faultless. And while I wouldn’t say it was head and shoulders over 2*, it is certainly up a level. But you and I have to appreciate, 2* is already a ridiculous level of cooking most will only dream of, and there are diminishing returns. But the returns that are left are so hard to achieve every day it’s an exclusive club and they are subtle. A big step up though is the service. It was without question one of the most amazing things I have had the pleasure to observe. So much so it made up a big part of conversation with my wife between courses around just how you get that good! Everything is so well drilled and rehearsed. It’s phenomenal to watch and a joy to do so. As example of just how rehearsed they are a guest broke a glass mid service. Everyone sprung into action and seemed to have a specific role. They moved the couple to another table around the corner away from any embarrassment. Cleaned and reset the entire table/area discretely and silently. They then brought the couple back and served fresh dishes. All without anyone saying a word other than something like “would you both like to follow me”. If you think you want something, and somehow suggest it in your body language they seem to notice and fetch it. This may all sound ridiculous to some people - but my point is the level expected is just so high nothing isnt thought of in service. So I can only imagine what it’s like in the kitchen - where perfection is probably just ok.

No card payments in 2025 is ludicrous. Saying they don’t have WiFi is even more ridiculous when there is full 5G on the pier instead. Must not like tourist money!

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal out. Food fresh, very tasty and plentiful. Service excellent. Saw me using fork to pass over some couscous to my husband and before I knew it they had noticed and brought me a spoon. I had dropped some couscous off my fork onto table and suddenly we were brought a plate with extra couscous. Would definitely return if in the area.

Great restaurant with amazing views of the sea. Family meal for four and we all came away very happy! Oysters were very nice and so too were the fish and chips 😀👍

Another fantastic night at Calcutta. It’s actually the best curry I’ve ever tasted. Starter of Salmon, main Punjabi Karachi as recommended by our lovely funny waitress. Thank you again for a wonderful evening

Amazing pizza and great service. Went with a big group and service was fast and efficient. Food was phenomenal! Great for big groups or couples. BYOB as well
