Best fish and chips in town and Ibrahim made me feel very welcome :)

We used to live in the area and the Fish & Chips were so good and the mature gentleman that run it was a delight. Being in the area last night and 9.30pm we thought we would chance going there to grab supper, we ordered small cod, large haddock and chips (£26) and we were not disappointed. The fish was fat and filling and the chips not greasy and did not repeat on us like some fried food did. Highly recommended and although it’s a 30 min drive away from home we would go back. It’s lovely to see if it’s changed hands they kept the cooking process to the exact high standards as 10 years ago and customer service is strong. [Rarity to find this these days] Highly recommended and 10🌟

I was planning to come here for quite sometime as I had heard great reviews about this place and finally had the chance and it was well worth the trip! The customer service was excellent and staff very warm welcoming and friendly but the main thing the food....chefs kiss all round generous potion of chips and decent size fish with a side salad of which the presentation was great. The chips were perfectly cooked and the cider was also cooked perfectly and the all blended in just right when eating the salad worked perfect with the two. Will definitely come back again the place did not disappoint and the reviews the you see on the walls around do the this great place justice. A must visit if you're in Greenwich. Have been thinking about visiting this establishment for a while now. We were stuck in Traffic on the way there, parking not so easy. But got there we were greeted warmly with smiles placed our order they were busy with delivery orders takeaways and a few seated customers. Our food arrived and I said if it tastes as good as it looks we'll be OK. I had the Halibut which was perfectly cooked chips were fresh and their home made Tartare sauce was absolutely delicious....I almost finished the jar myself. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Needless to say we truly enjoyed the food and will undoubtedly be coming back . Thanks guys Sal

I have been having fish and chips from this fish shop for several years but what I got on Good Friday was the worst fish and chips I have ever had! It was just burnt batter with a little bit of dried up fish inside! They charge £10 for a piece of fish it’s daylight robbery!!! Won’t be going there again!

Look nowhere further for a proper fish and chips! Me and my family wanted to try the best proper fish and chips in London, and my research led me to The Golden Chippy. My expectations were through the roof so I was very excited to try it. Both the food and the service was outstanding. The cod was flaky and firm, the batter unbelievably crispy and the chips perfectly fried. Tartar sauce and mushy peas were excellent. The salad was fresh and a nice way to finish up the meal. Staff gave us great service and a lot of recommendations what to see in Greenwich. Thank you for the experience, I will visit next time I'm in London. Cheers from the Sweden!

Prices showed and prices you pay to eat there are way different! They also charge « extra » for things that you didn’t ask for. A standard fish and chips costs almost double the price at the end! Taste is also not so « incredible ». M..

Very bland, tasteless and incredibly overpriced fish and chips. The chips were undercooked. The smallest fish supper is £13.50. That’s daylight robbery. There are some phenomenal fish and chip spots in South London, including those using beef dripping for frying. I guess this place is for tourists that are staying at the local hotels. A pity, since this obviously used to be a local icon.

Delicious fish and chips - probably the best I have had in the UK and great service. But the place does look a bit run down and needs to be updated and refreshed as I imagine this could put people off.

Truly the best fish I’ve ever had at any chippy restaurant- the homemade tartar sauce was the perfect compliment! I’m more partial to crispy chips, but their wedges were still awesome. The owner was so kind and really made the experience one to remember.

One standout is their homemade tartar sauce—it’s absolutely delicious! Creamy, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it complements the fish beautifully, taking each bite to the next level. I had a lot of tartar sauce left over, so I decided to order the shrimp scampi, but I wasn’t impressed at all—only because they use small pieces of shrimp. It looks like they cut one whole shrimp into tiny pieces, coat them in heavy dough, and then count that as “one” shrimp. If they had used colossal shrimp, it would’ve been a game-changer. I was really let down by the shrimp. Every element on the fish and chips plate was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were spot on. If you’re looking for a fantastic fish and chips experience, Golden Chippy is the place to be. The next time I’m in the area, I’m definitely stopping by again. P.S. the curry sauce is OK! It was all what we ware expecting from this kind of place. I gave 5 stars in "Atmosphere" category, not because the atmosphere is super cozy or cool, but because its very local and not pretentious, what I love. Food was excelent, again, not for fine dining, but for what it is, and the staff was super nice.

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!! Absolutely outstanding!!!!!! Eat in or takeaway this chipshop has it all, I had large Haddock, chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and a beer while I waited, what more could you want???? The chips where crispy on the outside and sort in the middle, the dish was golden and simply fantastic, when I'm in the west end I always go to the fish plaice, from now on, whenever I'm in the Greenwich area, the golden chippy will be my go to place.

For Northerns they do gravy and it's lovely. Just have to ask

Faultless best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Service was amazing a caring attitude towards their guests. Food was exceptional, I set high standards in my expectations when eating out this meal was so good. Be warned they are big plates so make sure you’re hungry!

Couldn't be any more perfect! The batter on the haddock was light and tasty, nothing felt over the top unlike many other fish and chip meals. The staff and owner are all lovely, made sure everyone on our table was happy and asked if we needed anything else. Both fish and chips not too oily at all, and that helped a lot in being able to go for a long walk afterwards. Salad on the side was also really tasty, not bland and boring like other salads that are given on the side of dishes at restaurants. If you want good fish and chips without a fuss, this is the perfect place and a lovely location for it too.

Probably the best Chippy this side of town. Delicious, fresh cooked chips of the tastiest kind with whatever you fancy...... RECOMMENDED

My first proper English fish and chip shop and I couldn’t be more pleased!! The chips were crispy and potatoey, fish just crispy enough, but soft and delicious cod, and I had a delicious cider to pair with it! The owner and staff were incredibly attentive and kind, and we were sat right next to the wall detailing the shops history. It is so nice to see a local and small business which survived the pandemic which seems to have always cared about the quality of their food and service. Highly recommend if you are in Greenwich!!

This is because it is a soul food that soothed hunger during difficult times. In Korea, it is like kimchi stew or pork soup, so in the UK you must try fish and chips. This is the best fish and chips shop located in Greenwich, a suburb of London that I visited. They sell fish and chips in two sizes, standard and large, and you can choose between cod, rockfish, skate, flounder, and flounder. If you do not request a specific fish, the most popular dish is cod. I ordered a large cod fish and chips and it took about 20 minutes to come out as the fish was fried right away. French fries are provided, of course, and a salad is also provided, making it a very filling meal. The size of the fried fish is approximately 20cm, and regardless of the length, the batter is golden and very golden brown. The characteristic feature is that there is not much space between the thick fish and the thin batter. Popped in for some chips after a long drive. Said we would sit in and got the nicest plate full of chips and salad! Wasn't even expecting to get some salad, and it was such a nice salad too, proper mix of leaf, onion, tomato and a lovely dressing. The staff were super friendly and we were so impressed! We didn't want much food on this visit, but I did notice this place had a brilliant vegan menu, which so many chippies don't bother. Was very impressed at the list of pies, scampi, fish fillet and various sausage, all veggie! Normally have to bung something in the air fryer for my veggie husband so this was really impressive!

I got here late on a Friday night all the way from Clapham, the seating area was already closed, however the hospitality was there. The staff were friendly and made us fresh fish which was absolutely delicious the batter was so tasty golden and crispy 😋 Lovely spot to go to for nice fish and chips.

Stopped here for dinner on a Tuesday evening as staying at the travelodge. What a fantastic place, great staff friendly welcoming and really great atmosphere. The staff here are fantastic. The food is one of the best fish and chips I've had in ages. Would highly recommend this place if your in the area you won't be disappointed

I cannot criticise one thing. Staff super friendly. Spotlessly clean. Nothing too much. Chips perfect, I even think they are the best shaped chips I’ve ever seen. Loved it.

The fish and chips were amazing. Very flaky fish and served hot and fresh. The salad and homemade tartar sauce adds a nice touch.

The place is expensive, but the service is very kind and the food is delicious. There are homemade fries with the fish and a light salad. They also give the fish a separate nicely packaged homemade sauce. Takeaway food is much cheaper anyway.

Great chippy lovely food and great staff. When I am next from the midlands I will be back for more.

I was on a business trip staying at a nearby hotel across the road, popped in for a take-away fish supper and ordered the grilled halibut (you don't often see this very tasty fish in a chippy) and small chips. Lovely food, fish cooked to perfection, chips fluffy inside and crispy outside plus a tasty complementary mediterranean salad. Cracking meal and excellent value.

Adorable little fish and chip shop. Everyone was so friendly and the food was great. The fish was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips were crispy and fluffy.

The website and photos suggest it might be a bigger or grander place - it is a choppy with a few tables inside and a few outside under a cover. However the staff are friendly and the food lives up to the expectations of good chips. It seemed pretty popular even on a normal Wednesday night. Eating in, it’s a nice surprise to have proper plate, cutlery and table service. Sauces on the table in a holder. Even a glass for your canned drink. Eating in is more expensive and it’s hard to tell how much it’ll cost, my large chips, saveloy and a sprite was £14 - not cheap but the warmth (both staff and venue) and ease meant it was definitely worth it.

I was expecting really good things from this place but was left feeling rather disappointed. I ordered plaice and chips which came with salad and also a min eral water. The batter I felt was too thick and crispy, and the fish although looked good was very thin. The chips didn't taste great either. The staff were very friendly couldn't fault them. The total bill was £23 including a 12.5% service charge and didn't feel it was worth it.

I had to try a meal here, having seen coverage by You Tubers. I live in a seaside town, with many fish and chips shops, but there isn't one to touch the quality served here . I’ve tried fish and chips at three different famous restaurants in London, but this place is by far the best! The cod was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and had a super light and crispy batter that was simply divine. The potatoes were just as impressive—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, cooked to perfection. The accompanying salad was fresh and flavorful, a perfect complement to the meal. The service was outstanding as well. Our waitress was exceptionally kind and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The service was fast, and everything was served piping hot. This is hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in London! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly exceptional meal.

Food is okay but they charge 12.5% as service charge at the check out, which is not stated in the menu. I was on a date so I didn't want to make a problem what what you are doing is illegal. Take out and eat in price is already different, but the hidden charge is unfair. My bill was 40£, with about 5£ that should not have been charged, basically robbed 5£...

Great tasting Fish and Chips at super affordable price. Very good and fast service. Their COD fish is crunchy which I love. They are very generous with the sauces which is a plus. Love their Tartar sauce too.

Enjoyed a very tasty lunch here yesterday. I have had many many pieces of battered fish in my life. The battered rock that I had yesterday was the best battered fish I have ever eaten. My partner’s plaice fillet was enormous and delicious. Tasty fish, super-light crunchy batter, no hint of oil at all. Loved the house-made tartare sauce and the side salad. Service was good. Only disappointment was the chips which were nice thick-cut potatoes that were okay but lacking the crispy exterior that makes a good chip great. We left most of our chips on the plate, not because they were bad but because we couldn’t possibly eat the huge serving of food we were given and the chips were our least favoured thing on the plate. Overall, though, a really good lunch with absolutely stunning fish. We will return.

On holliday from Amsterdam and wanted to try fish and chips. The first time I ever tried fish and chips, and it was absolutely amazing! The food was incredible—perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The service was outstanding, with the friendliest and kindest staff you could ask for. Highly recommend!

I gave 3 stars not because the food was not good. On the contrary, it was Delicious!! The problem is the price difference between the menu and what you pay at the checkout! They save you from imaginary costs! I got almost 10 pounds worth between what I calculated and what I paid. I don't like being caught off guard and that's what happened. Be careful when paying and double-check your receipt!

So many chippies to choose from in London and I’m so glad I found this gem! A cozy place with friendly service & phenomenal fish and chips! Generous portions (large cod) at a fair price. I have a peanut allergy & was happy that they don’t use peanut oil. Wish we had a place like this in Philadelphia.

The food is always excellent. Whether you prefer your fish grilled or fried in crispy light batter, it is always cooked to perfection. The chips always have a crispy crunch, and I love the salad that accompanies my meal. If you're feeling like going all out, try the large, but you'll probably suffice with the regular / medium size. It's been somewhere I have been regularly visiting for many years, and if you've got friends or family in tow, definitely somewhere to take them to try Fish & Chips. Probably the best Fish & Chip shop in London.

You can't say no to good fish and chips and the Golden Chippy does some of the best! We've had takeout and eaten in here and either way it's great nosh. Portions are not stingy. If you're not hungry, maybe just go for a battered sausage, which should be crispy and crunchy on the outside. They do more than just cod so try the other fish options too. They have drinks if you want. You can just get tap water if you're sitting in to eat and don't want anything else. Usually everything is freshly fried, but if coming towards the end of the day (like 15mins before closing) they might have started turning down the fryers so might not be able to fry new stuff. Busiest Fri - Sun understandably, so call ahead if you don't want to wait around. You'll often see locals milling about waiting for their orders those evenings and it's not too long if you don't mind a wait. Even if you call on one of those days you might want to give it 5mins extra or be prepared to wait a bit. The staff are nice and up for a natter. Good Friday is the busiest day so please be nice if you're ordering then!

Another London visit , another visit to the Golden Chippy and again a dining experience to savour! Staff as always very friendly and welcoming and this is no frills and fancies just good honest fresh food from the best Fish and Chip bar I have eaten in. Chris Kanizi welcomed us with open arms, he and as amazing family always make us feel so appreciated.

I had an amazing time here at The Golden Chippy !! Was able Discover literal GOLD two days before my trip back to NYC!! I ordered the grilled Haddock with Chips and salad. My Boyfriend got fried Cod with Chips and Salad. The owners were debating with a Canadian couple about English Potato’s - VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE!!! IT IS NOT FRIES! ITS AN ENGLISH CHIP! 🤬 All in all wonderful experience, amazing service & WE WILL BE BACK <3 It’s out go to from here on
