Delicious Traditional pie and mash shop in a lovely area of Greenwich. Great customer service with staff always offering a smile or a helping hand and a compliment or two if your lucky 😂. A touristy spot although there are a handful of regulars such as myself. Optional Communal tables or normal smaller tables that you don’t have to share. Always leave full and happy.

First time in England for New years Eve day and the first time to eat here. Pies are really nice, very filling, and the mashies (mashed potato) are fluffy. Very busy place and popular, and I'm glad my sister in law recommended it.

I honestly don't understand the good reviews of this place, without any flavor, everything flat, I would say that the food was thawed, and then reheated, too much sauce on the foot, the mashed potato was the worst I've eaten in a long time, absent service having to order They clean the tables, and self service when ordering. The bathrooms are unpresentable. A place not to recommend.

Typical. Dine in pub. Excellent atmosphere. Order your food before you sit down. Bring your tray to your table. Plenty of seating upstairs as well. Food was fabulous. Basic brown gravy on mashed potatoes with beef pie, you can also get chicken items as well as peas and beans and things like that. If you’re looking for your greens. Great place highly recommend it. Very tasty.

A very average pie, mash and liquor. I’ve had better elsewhere including Manze’s and Arments. The liquor was thin and tasteless and the chilli vinegar was sweet. The white pepper seemed very tame with no tang! The aforementioned chilli vinegar had big kebab shop size chilli’s. I’ve always thought the smaller birds eye type chilli was better?

Eveything you want from a traditional pie and mash shop. Lots of pie options, really nice quality and taste, charming east London service and prices you don't see in the capital these days! Well worth a visit

Good value and very decent food!

Had the liquor, mash potatoes and chicken and mushroom pie, all washed down with a perfect cup of tea. My friend had the beef pie and she also said it was delicious. Great price, ate in, delicious. Clean and tidy. Lovely ladies serving. Toilets were clean and tidy. Feels very traditional. Had tourists and locals alike in there.

Generous, delicious portions of savoury pies and fluffy mash topped with rich gravy. What more can you ask for? This place is an institution. Order the jellied eels is you’re feeling brave (supposedly they’re an aphrodisiac!). I’d get them hot if it’s your first time with parsley sauce and chilli vinegar. Watch out for the bones in the middle. You order at the counter, where the service is friendly and efficient.

The small family address that we enjoy discovering. Bar service, wooden dining-style benches. Lots of people on Saturday, mainly Londoners. We have a traditional beef pie, some mash (with gravy otherwise it’s dry!) ​​and we can let ourselves be tempted by the old school desserts of the house

I had 3 types of pie. Steak and ale pie - a bit disappointing as taste plus it was a bit cold, maybe I had too big expectations from it as is my goto pie Beef pie - was ok, beef flavour was strong Chilli beef pie - was the best out of these 3, good mix of flavours The potatoes mash was a wee bland. The gravy helped, but is a long way from homemade mash.

Lovely place. Huge variety of pies on the menu. The staff were friendly and chatty, they all looked like they enjoyed working there. Great prices for what you get, I had my pie and mash with gravy and my girlfriend had the liquor sauce. Both were yummy. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, not the best I've ever had but was tasty and a good size for the price. My girlfriend had the cherry pie with custard and that was delicious, again a generous size for the price. She commented that the food reminded her of her school dinners from her youth, and that's a good thing! Love thus place and will definitely return.

Arrived here with a huge desire for some good pie & mash, but not the best experience. First of all the staff was quite rude and tried to hurry us as much as possible in a queue of 3 people. My partner and I bought 3 pieces, only one was hot and the rest of the food was cold. The taste, was not there really. The only one pie which was a little more decent was the Chilli pie, which had a little bit of flavour. I don't really recommend this place... Or just try it if you never had this kind of pieces.

Excellent stop near Cutty's Sark for authentic Local food at great prices. The cobbler dessert was amazing.

I'm a pie and mash lover, been fed it since a child, I just had to try this, I'm a soft bottom pie girl, I know some prefer "a crust" I don't, I like mine soft and sticky! The staff are lovely, so friendly and the atmosphere/feel of the place is magic! But to me, these pies are more what you would eat with chips and peas! Not horrible in style way, just not my taste - if your a crispy pie lover, this place is perfect! Xx

Let me tell you I'm def not picky with food and I can eat everything and I hate to say this, but omg this was so f gross that I couldn't eat more than one bite. The gravy was so bland it was completely tasteless. The pie was also bland and not flaky at all. And meat inside the pie... it was stinky and had some artifical taste. A disaster. The only thing that was bearable to eat was mashed potatoes.

Went in to try their fruit pies. Encountered mostly hostile staff who seemed annoyed we were there. Pies were disappointing. While the custard was nice, the pie pastry was hard and was undercooked. Go elsewhere!

Highly highly recommend this place. If you are in the area and wanted to grab a quick lunch, look no further. Super comforting food on a cold day. Portion was decent with two scoops of mashed potatoes. Ordered lamb and beef kidney both were tasty. At first I didn’t understand why there’s vinegar but it added so much flavour to the dish so please try it with! Also, the staffs working there were a huge plus. The two gentleman were super friendly, helping us getting takeaway box, made us feel welcomed❤️ Again, great place for a quick, cheap and delicious traditional British food🇬🇧

so sad that their food has become tasteless over time we are locals and have eaten at goddards for years and are dishearten to find that their pie, mash and gravy has become so bad! this place has a long history of pie and mash and jelly eels and attracts quite a lot of tourists in Greenwich but over time the quality of their eels has become dubious and last time (about 2 months ago)when we ordered eels it came with such a nasty taste we struggled to finish it. today we go to goddards again and order pie and mash and a dessert The beef pie,the mash and gravy are all tasteless, very very diappointing The dessert is just okish but far from good We totally agree with an earlier comment that there are many places doing pie and mash far better than the present day Goddards Even though their price and portion is still attraction, we have decided not to go back. We do not want cheap but tasteless food. Quality of food is important to us. As locals we are so sad to say that Greenwich has lost yet another interesting eatery which is steep in history.

Goddards has been a firm family favourite for years. We visit every couple of months to enjoy traditional pie and mash. I used to love the minced beef and onion pie but recently became pescatarian, so was a little dubious about popping in today. I opted for the soya and veg pie with mash and liquor and I was pleasantly surprised. There was no compromise on the flavours and I didn’t feel that I was missing out on the experience by not having meat. In fact, it was delicious. Goddards is a no frills, old English style venue that is always consistent and never disappoints - Even for those who don’t eat meat!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and got a meal deal (pie and mash + cup of tea) for £6.80 - very good value. Food was great too. It was very crowded but given service was very fast-paced it wasn’t too hard to find somewhere to sit down. Lots of seating spread across two floors.

When you sell two things, pie and mash, there isn’t much to get wrong, but they manage to here. The mash here is actually smash - this irks me as it doesn’t take much to make actual mash with actual potatoes, and even the most basic version would be better than this ultra processed stuff. Bisto gravy and bland pies too. I won’t be going back. If you’re just looking for atmosphere and pretty decor it’s nice.

I really don’t understand the hype for this place. Definitely an underwhelming experience. The staff were very nice but the pies were quite tasteless. I went with my boyfriend and we had a chicken and mushroom pie with mash, and a double pie with mash. The mash itself didn’t have any flavour, tasted like pure mashed potatoes with no seasoning or butter whatsoever, same thing for the pies. Nice flaky top but the filling didn’t have any distinct flavour. It’s very affordable, true, but I wouldn’t come back.

Interesting… big points for the atmosphere and for the prices - it is always full with people. When it comes to food… it gets complicated. They put as much love to their staple dish (which is “pie & mash”) as they pour extra water to the sauce to get more of it. You will need to add salt etc. but generally it’s eatable and very interesting for us tourists!

Goddards is a 'Traditional East End' style pie and mash shop. It's good, no frills style is a breath of fresh air from the overpriced market stalls or chain restaurants filling Greenwich. Yes, the menu is only pies and mash with counter service but great value and London from a bygone era. You can have a tasty pie, mash and tea for only £6.80. For the hungry, you can add another pie or more mash for a couple of ££ more. Bring your overseas guest here for a unique experience.

Food was mediocre. Mash had zero taste. Friend smothered her food with salt and pepper as she thought it was so bland and we'd gone there because she was desperate for pie & mash after too long without. Also, the pies are large but the portion of mash is very small, and the gravy (not the liquor) was as tasteless as the mash. The atmosphere was meh but they may have been due to the time of day. There were also guests having a bit of a barney. Which might have been interesting if we could hear clearly enough to understand what was occurring 😄. I will say that the staff were nice and the gentleman who cleaned the tables was wonderfully warm and friendly. The place was very clean, and the tea was excellent (would be better in a proper mug!). But unfortunately, for a restaurant, the food just wasn't great. And this isn't the first time I've been there and thought as much. There are far better pie and mash eateries around.

It was very packed, but you still can find a place to sit (especially if it's not a big group). The fact that they had gluten free pies melted my heart. The price is also very friendly. Definitely recommended especially for fellow gluten intolerant people.

I ate this typical English beef pie and mash dish and was satisfied with the choice. The place is very clean and welcoming. The guys were all very kind and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to try typical English cuisine.

Typical English food: fast, cheap and filling. Good, in fact. The colorful adjacent market is worth a visit; less artificial, more sincere and original than many other more famous ones in London (Covent Garden, for example)

Absolutely perfect pie, mash and eels! Having lived in Cornwall for many years, I don't get many chances to enjoy a proper pie & mash these days. So on a recent trip to London, I headed for the nearest pie and mash shop, which happened to be this one. It was everything I wanted it to be - friendly and fast service, good value, a nice place with plenty of seating, and delicious food. All components were spot on. A special mention for the stewed eels... I could have easily polished off a double portion!
