We tried this restaurant mainly due to the reviews but felt like we had walked into a different place. Firstly, the restaurant was cold, so wasn’t comfortable. Loud dance music was playing. Although we arrived at 6:45, the special was not available and although there were plenty of empty tables we were sat next to the only other people in there. Felt rushed to order, food wise was disappointed. The seafood platter for one was too much, not especially tasty as the seafood was still really cold. Ideally it could have done with a few chunks of thick granary bread to enjoy the pate and crab meat but just had one slice of thin cheap buttered bread. Accompanying chips were awful, dry, lukewarm and tasteless, they appeared to have been heated up rather than freshly cooked. Nothing like the takeaway chips we had eaten at the Magpie Cafe the day before. A very poor experience all in all. It was our first time in Whitby and had been led to believe it was renowned for fish and chips and seafood, hopefully if we returned, there would be better restaurants than this to eat at.

I’m shocked there are so many good reviews of this place. The food was subpar, and they were out of crab and lobster at 5pm on a Sunday! How can a seafood restaurant run out of seafood staples? The mussels were undercooked. Not a lot of options on the menu. Staff were very friendly though.

It was our 1st visit on Sunday 20/10/24. The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. And I can say it was well worth the visit, we chose the Sunday roast beef dinner which is a new addition to the menu, it was a generous size portion and tasted amazing!! The beef just melted in the mouth 😋😋 It was worth every penny and more!! The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us. We were lucky enough to get seaview seating, with amazing views. We will be returning soon. Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Beautiful place with gorgeous views of the pier, lighthouse, and beach. Lovely staff, happy to help, always available to ask a question. Clean, good quality bathrooms. We were visiting Whitby for my brother's football match and stopped here. We got the bread mix with balsamic and oil (the only thing I would change is the ratio of balsamic to oil and to have them in separate bowls). I myself (wasn't very hungry) and my brother got the kids haddock and chips with gravy. Appropriate sizing, not too oily or greasy. My father got the lemon sole (fish of the day), which was delicious and fell off the bones. The main waitress for our table happily gave us a small plate for unwanted pieces. The only thing I would change is the amount of ice cream that comes with the kid's meal. It could be a lot for, say, a six-year-old. It was a little much for me, and I'm a lot older. Overall, a lovely place, would definitely come again. :)

We bought from the takeaway and at in the covered seating area, which was clean and pleasant and free from gulls. The main point of this review it to say that the fish and chips were heavenly, just perfect. I've had expensive F&C from award winning places before, but this was better. The taste and texture was a delight, and the price was similar to our local chippy inland. Proper Yorkshire service, ie lovely staff. Next tim we're in town, that's where we'll be having lunch 😀

Spent a couple of days in Whitby last week and we decided on this place for tea one night. I was worried that it's views and location might mean that the food was average at best but I needn't have worried - probably one of the best fish and chips meals I have ever had. Warning: 1. Can be busy. Probably worth booking ahead if you want a booth/sea view. 2. Prices - £20 for fish, chips and peas. Top-end in my opinion but can't say it bothered me by the time I had eaten it.

Overall not bad, I maybe picked the wrong dish. I had the crab salad, this was served in a dish which had a mixed salad leaf, just like the bag from the supermarket, in the bottom with a dressed crap put on the top. The crab was really tasty but the salad dressing was too sour. The brown bread with it was really nice. My wife had the noodles with a piece of roasted Salmon on the top, that was really nice. Table gave us a nice view of the sea, the table looked dirty and felt sticky. As I say crab salad very disappointing for the price. Sort the crab salad and cover the tables please.

A very nice seafood restaurant, well run with great staff. I got the fish pie and it was really special, and lots of it and beautifully presented. My wife's crab salad was first class too. Lovely room with great sea views from every table. Only concern was that the toilet doors bang very loudly when people exit and after 10 mins of this random crashing 8 feet from my ears we asked to move further in which was fine with them. Surely something easily fixed though? So, a great place but I hope by next year they will have got a handyman in for the doors ;-). The food and people cannot be faulted tho. Thanks!

Wasn’t to bad not great though, quite pricey with not many specials on the menu, you have to pay extra for mushy peas etc, their was a sneaky kids menu hidden underneath the kids coloring page on the table, which we didn’t see until we had finished our meal, as we thought there was no kids menu, so we paid full price for kids to eat, chips were chewy and not very hot, more small bits of chips instead of full chips. We booked on line a week in advance. Arrived in the restaurant and were shown to a table near the window. We ordered a bottle of wine, oysters, prawns and two whole lobsters with desserts. We had spent there about 1 hour and 20 minutes when we asked for coffees that would have taken another 20 minutes tops. We were told that as the table was only booked for 1.5 hours (!!!!!) we would have to have the coffee at another table or outside as the next guests were already there!!!!! Only the tables near the window were taken and the rest of the restaurant was empty so I do not understand why they could not sit an incoming party at another table as there were plenty. Moreover, having spent circa £200 for 2 people for about 1.5 hours I would have expected that they can accommodate another 20 minutes for coffee and in particular when the whole place was empty. We left disappointed and to be frank, offended. Shame as the lobster and oysters were amazing. The wine list could be improved and so could the waiters knowledge of the food but I guess we are accustomed to London.

The two of us ordered two whole lobsters, extra prawns, oysters to start, a bottle of wine, and deserts - all amounting to around £200 pounds. We really enjoyed the table facing the sea, the food was excellent, probably the best lobster we ever had. However when we asked for coffee to finish off the experience, and we were feeling really satisfied and happy, the hostess burst the balloon by saying " you've booked for an hour and a half only and there are other people here waiting!! - we can move you to the table outside" What the actual ??? Did they not see how much we spent? how much longer would a coffee take? The hostess has no concept whatsoever of how to leave a customer satisfied. Sorry to the waiter, we told him, we cant leave a tip now, and we wanted to. I note that other tables ordered fish and chips. Message to the restaurant- be aware of your clientele, just because the table says 1.5 hours be careful not to insult your customers that may stay over the allocated time. Remember they are spending money and probably more than the next table who spent the same time eating fish and chips.

Asked to sit at a table away from noise to be told no as a bigger group may arrive to take it( they didn’t) service from 3 ladies zero smiles across the whole visit. Food was average and to top it off one server decided to stare at my kid whilst he tried to eat, this made him very anxious! The servers walk up and down the tables constantly making you feel rushed and almost an inconvenience for being there. They then tried to take my son’s food before he had even finished. Wouldn’t recommend and certainly wouldn’t come back. Don’t work in hospitality if you are unable to smile and greet your paying customers! Another table demanded a refund as we were leaving. After seeing the rating we chose to eat here for lunch. Huge mistake. 3 meals turned up with luke warm chips. We alerted the server who took the plates away to rectify it. The plates were returned with the same fish that was previously on our plates, and the chips heated to the outside and again lukewarm in the middle. All 3 of the fish (2 haddock and one cod) were soaked in oil that was clear to see on the plate. Another server asked if the meals were OK, to which I replied no I won't be eating mine and she smiled and walked away. I didn't eat my meal because after a couple of bites my mouth was coated with oil. I'm really disappointed as the meals aren't cheap. As we left, we met another family who had the exact same issues with food quality and service. Such a shame as the view from the restaurant was beautiful.

I booked a table for four via the OpenTable app several weeks ago to ensure we would be able to eat here whilst on our holiday in Whitby. Last weekend I had a reminder message from OpenTable to confirm that we will attend, I confirmed that we would. So, last night we arrived at the booked time and were shown to a table. Our order was taken promptly, but when it arrived we did need to request additional cutlery as there was only enough for two, no big deal really, because it was pretty busy. The food was very nice, so no problems there. Drinks prices were pretty steep; £6.95 for a pint of Moretti Lager, I can’t really complain though, because I was already aware of the drinks prices before we went. The atmosphere in the establishment was good, although somewhat noisy due to the repetitive sounds from the children’s funfair rides just outside of the window at the opposite end of the room. Again, it’s a holiday destination, so no real complaints. The windows were open because it was a very hot evening and - to be honest - the fresh air was very welcome, even though it meant that we had a troublesome fly hovering around us for our entire hour and a half that we were in there! Overall, I would say that the experience was OK. However…today I received an email from OpenTable informing me that The Fisherman’s Wife had reported me as not honouring my booking. I replied to OpenTable that I did indeed attend and that I resented the suggestion that I was a ‘no show’. They responded to say that they had worked with the restaurant to ensure their records are accurate. I have used online booking systems many times, I have always honoured them, never had any problems and always turned up on time, so to receive such an email was pretty irritating and embarrassing and I regret spending £100+ at The Fisherman’s Wife restaurant. The restaurant may just see it as a misunderstanding, however I see it as leaving something of an unfair stain on my character.

Excellent food & service with views across the sea where if u are lucky u may see some dolphins. A little bit more expensive than other places but worth it. Would most definatly go again, just a tip if u want a window table book in advance.

We ate in three establishments in Whitby; Trenchers, Magpie and Fisherman’s and this was a clear second to Trenchers. Lovely atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff and great views, the chips not as tasty as Trenchers but better than Magpie, Scampi portion a good size and tasty, a pleasant meal in nice surroundings, would recommend above Magpie.

We were a party of 14. The service was excellent, prompt and efficient. The food was good, and apart from the normal fare from the fryer, I would recommend the Fisherman's Wife Fish pie!. Good views from the restaurant, with a bright, pleasant, and busy atmosphere. Certainly go there again.

We had a lovely meal at this charming little Turkish restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, bursting with authentic flavours, and the portions were just right. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome. It’s a cosy spot with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a true taste of Turkey in the heart of England!
