Lovely view very helpful staff and the seafood platter was very good

Fantastic food, great friendly service and a lovely location overlooking the sea. We've eaten here a number of times and it's always been superb.

I've frequented here regularly in the last couple of months, have to say, Can't fault it, Lovely atmosphere as you walk in, greeted with a friendly smile, order is taken within 2 minutes, never wait more than 10 minutes for the food to arrive, generally have HADDOCK AND CHIPS, PEAS, TARTER SAUCE PIT OF TEA, really can't fault the food at all, friendly, quick staff who know there job....great place.

Ordered hot seafood platter for 2 people. Prawns have not been cleaned! One small portion of chips for 2 people that wasn’t cooked properly. Definitely not enough food for 2 people. Service friendly and polite. Nice view of the sea if you lucky to get a table next to the window, but I wouldn’t come back again.

If you are prepared to walk there, it overlooks the beach and harbour entrance. Been several times and food and service never disappoints

My wife and I have eaten at this establishment for a number of years now and decided to visit again today for lunch. Although the food was up to the usual standard (cold seafood platter for 2), we felt that the service was well below the standard we had come to expect and therefore did not feel leaving our usual good feedback. We were served by a young male waiter who was not very welcoming or friendly as the other who have served us previously. He took our order and that was the last interaction we had with him. He did not offer to open and serve the wine as other colleagues did on the past and also did not come back at any time whilst we were eating to check if everything was alright.

Great little cafe. Can be very busy at times.

Great fish and chips cooked fresh to order. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. We had a dog with us so we sat in the undercover outside area which was heated and had great views of the sea.

Without question the best fish & chips I've ever had. Would go back without question. Everything was five star, food, staff, service, cleanliness and the location of the restaurant make it the best in Whitby.

Great views and very friendly restaurant, with quality fresh ingredients. Have been here a couple of times and would return. Only negative is they complicate the cooking a bit much. Their ingredients are excellent quality so they don’t need to try too hard, just stick to basic simple recipes and let the ingredients speak for themselves. As an example, the Gambas Pil Pil is not like any Gambas Pil Pil you’ve had before: it arrives swimming in oil in a soup bowl rather than in a flat dish with a small amount of spicy oil in the base. Not a big problem, you can just extract the prawns, which are delicious, but why such an odd delivery? Basic fish and chips is no doubt excellent but I come here for other seafood dishes (there are already enough basic fish and chip places in Whitby!). Previously I had fish with new potatoes and asparagus which was delicious and a bit more simply presented. All in all, a welcoming restaurant with great views and atmosphere and good fresh fish that I will return to.

Just WOW!! We had a family trip to Whitby and were unsure where to eat in the evening, i am so glad to we chose here. What an incredible find. The food was just immense. And the view!!! It couldn't have been nicer as the sun was setting and we looked the beach and the surfers sipping the robins hood bay white wine (which was also incredible)

We have never visited this restaurant before today, but will definitely be going again. The cod & chips 🍟 were absolutely 💯 👌. I would say, perhaps, as good as the magpie or trenchers but without the queue......we refuse to queue for any restaurant 😉 Lovely staff, very clean, and stupendous vista. The only negative was the toilets; although clean, they were a bit on the tight side!!

We were in Whitbynfor 4 days and had fish and chips in the outside area twice! I had mini fish and chips which were totally delicious. Lovely view of the beach and sea below and great food, what more could you want?

Very disappointed. Came here a few years ago and we really enjoyed good old fish and chips but unfortunately not this time. Fish was small and tasteless and the chips were rubbish, the only good thing on the plate were the mushy peas, probably why the restaurant was empty. Should have gone to Wetherspoons (The Angle Hotel) as their fish and chips are superb at half the price. Sorry but won’t be returning.

A lovely atmosphere on the harbour, and the decor of the restaurant is warm and welcoming in the evening. Staff were very friendly and attentive, always making sure they were around for anything we needed. Lovely food, I had the curry and my partner had the fish, which he said was tender and tasted very fresh. A very reasonable price considering we had a full meal (starter, main, and dessert).

Over all, not a bad place really, decor was lovely, it was why we choose it, very good views out looking the sea. Everybody wanted a see view window even though you could still see the sea from all the other tables. Being in Whitby i chose Cod & chips, this is where i was disappointed, not a nice piece of fish and the chips were oily. Staff were not the usual Yorkshire friendly type. Would i go there again ? Yes! But only for the veiws.

Great place with views over Whitby. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Easy access for those with disabilities. The bluebadge parking spaces are close by but down a slope. 6 wife dropped me at the entrance and parked the car a few 100 yards away, and after our meal, she got the car and picked me up! This was our 1st visit to this lovely restaurant but will not be our last

We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff that served us. Our food was very tasty and we will return here when we visit Whitby again.

In whitby trading for an event. Hotel had leaflet for the fishermans wife. Booked a table. Travelling solo. Had the medium haddock and chips. Fish was huge! Food was lovely. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend.

Sadly the fish was frozen and not fresh which resulted in it being tasteless and us feeling disappointed. The staff and views were lovely.

It's the restaurant we always go to when visiting Whitby as part of our day or weekend away as a couple, with friends or family for more than 5 years now. Great food and consistently nice. Great unobstructed view to the sea. All the staff is kind but shout out to Anna, the General Manager who is always accommodating, friendly and with a smile on her face. The Fisherman's Wife in Whitby has become part of our experience and we always look forward to dining here! Keep up the good work everyone and thank you for having us always.

Found this place by accident and what a joy it was. Sarah was so helpful and friendly , getting a ramp for my friend to access the restaurant, so thoughtful and kund throughoutvour visit. Stunning views of the harbour and beach just added to the experience anddelicious food on offer.

Views are stunning and the restaurant is lovely, Staff were attentive so have given two stars for the location and restaurant. We had fish and chips which were overpriced and very disappointing. The fish was dry and the whole meal was tasteless. Didn’t like the curry sauce at all. Other dishes looked very good but we wouldn’t go back unfortunately.

Fish and chips cooked in beef dripping so not inclusive for pescatarians or veggies.

What a lovely evening meal this was. I had the cod loin with the bouilabaise and new potatoes. My wife thought her curried cod dish was fantastic, and my picky child loved her food, too. Very friendly staff who were intrigued by our card game trying to think of an ice cream beginning with X. A really enjoyable evening and would have loved to have eaten here every night. Will be back next time we visit Whitby. Thanks.

Absolutely love the Fisherman's Wife in Whitby. Best fish and chips around - light batter, massive portions - and the view out to see from the restaurant is amazing. My son had the fish cakes and loved them too. Staff are super friendly and helpful, attentive but don't rush you. Amazing place, have been several times and will definitely be back.

It has a lovely atmosphere and has very friendly staff. All the food there is delicious and most of it is locally sourced. They have a larger variety of meals than most other fish and chip’s shops. Everything was excellent and I would 100% recommend going too.

Excellent. Really really loved this place. It's a step up from other places and spotlessly clean. Really good staff. If you want something special such as lobster, mussels halibut etc this place will be a good choice. The regular haddock and chips was faultless, excellent batter devine fish chips really nice and best mushy peas I have ever tasted. You can't really just turn up even though we did and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. Would recommend booking via their website. 100% would go again.

The woman who took the order got it wrong 3 times! We had to wait ages for the complete order to arrive! We will not be coming here again, rather get a takeaway from Greg's!

Best seafood we have had in Whitby

We tried this restaurant mainly due to the reviews but felt like we had walked into a different place. Firstly, the restaurant was cold, so wasn’t comfortable. Loud dance music was playing. Although we arrived at 6:45, the special was not available and although there were plenty of empty tables we were sat next to the only other people in there. Felt rushed to order, food wise was disappointed. The seafood platter for one was too much, not especially tasty as the seafood was still really cold. Ideally it could have done with a few chunks of thick granary bread to enjoy the pate and crab meat but just had one slice of thin cheap buttered bread. Accompanying chips were awful, dry, lukewarm and tasteless, they appeared to have been heated up rather than freshly cooked. Nothing like the takeaway chips we had eaten at the Magpie Cafe the day before. A very poor experience all in all. It was our first time in Whitby and had been led to believe it was renowned for fish and chips and seafood, hopefully if we returned, there would be better restaurants than this to eat at.

6 of us got takeaway fish and chips. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. The chips were lovely, however we all commented that the fish was very oily and the portion sizes weren't great for the price.

I’m shocked there are so many good reviews of this place. The food was subpar, and they were out of crab and lobster at 5pm on a Sunday! How can a seafood restaurant run out of seafood staples? The mussels were undercooked. Not a lot of options on the menu. Staff were very friendly though.

Every single time I have been to this restaurant the food has been excellent. There is also a great sea view.

Beautiful place with gorgeous views of the pier, lighthouse, and beach. Lovely staff, happy to help, always available to ask a question. Clean, good quality bathrooms. We were visiting Whitby for my brother's football match and stopped here. We got the bread mix with balsamic and oil (the only thing I would change is the ratio of balsamic to oil and to have them in separate bowls). I myself (wasn't very hungry) and my brother got the kids haddock and chips with gravy. Appropriate sizing, not too oily or greasy. My father got the lemon sole (fish of the day), which was delicious and fell off the bones. The main waitress for our table happily gave us a small plate for unwanted pieces. The only thing I would change is the amount of ice cream that comes with the kid's meal. It could be a lot for, say, a six-year-old. It was a little much for me, and I'm a lot older. Overall, a lovely place, would definitely come again. :)

It was our 1st visit on Sunday 20/10/24. The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. And I can say it was well worth the visit, we chose the Sunday roast beef dinner which is a new addition to the menu, it was a generous size portion and tasted amazing!! The beef just melted in the mouth 😋😋 It was worth every penny and more!! The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us. We were lucky enough to get seaview seating, with amazing views. We will be returning soon. Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We bought from the takeaway and at in the covered seating area, which was clean and pleasant and free from gulls. The main point of this review it to say that the fish and chips were heavenly, just perfect. I've had expensive F&C from award winning places before, but this was better. The taste and texture was a delight, and the price was similar to our local chippy inland. Proper Yorkshire service, ie lovely staff. Next tim we're in town, that's where we'll be having lunch 😀

Nice fish & chip restaurant with good views out to sea. X2 adults & X1 child Lovely meal, fish very nice, fishcakes very nice & proper chicken in the children's chicken nuggets meal. Bit expensive but you get what you pay for & will definitely return when next in Whitby. 👌 👍
