Oban Seafood Hut in Argyll & Bute

So glad we stopped here on our drive through the area, so many amazing seafood options to try! We had the tub of mussels, delicious! Highly recommend!

On November 9, I was in Oban and wanted to try the local specialty, but unfortunately the booth was closed and the information on the Internet was incorrect that it was open. Unfortunately, I can't say whether it was good today. I do not recommend!!!

I am very sorry that I have not eaten, but I am here to comment, but I would like to know whether you will be open between December 28 and 30 this year? I really want to taste delicious seafood, but I am very afraid that you will not open.

Perfect oister and crab food at low prices in an unbeatable Scottish atmosphere. Our friend described it as follows: It's cold you are standing in the rain and the dog is chasing seabirds while you are trying to eat. What more can you expect ? I loved it.

If you like seafood, Just go. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely go there. Fast and friendly, they prepare the catch of the day on the spot. The value for money is incredible, in fact, in my opinion it is cheap for the quantity and quality they offer. Not to be missed

Fresh seafood at a good price. The service is fast and you can eat it right there at the tables they have.

You will not get better seafood sandwiches in particular than here! Every time we are in Oban, this is our go to for seafood, especially for our journey home. Great staff, super fresh fare and very well priced too. Thanks all, see you in the spring!

Delicious and well presented seafood. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick with a numbered queuing system that ensured it went smoothly. Highly recommended if you are a seafood lover. You won’t get fresher or better anywhere.

Insane amount of food and all fresh and incredible!

This was part of my 80th birthday celebration a present from My Son who was with me. I have always wanted to visit the seafood shack because I absolutely love seafood! What a bit of disappointment! I ordered the The platter for two. It was thrown into a cardboard dish and in the centre of it was a piece of salmon wrapped in clingfilm. The staff were arguing amongst themselves were all very young the seafood, some of which looked undercooked and My Son who had most of it ended up with food poisoning. I have never seen 1/2 a lobster as small. I felt it left a lot to be desired.

The place you must visit for Scotland seafood. Cheap price with fast services and most important fresh seafoods. Although a long queue there, it’s still fast to order. No need photos for this hut. If you are going to Oban for seafoods, this is the one you can’t miss.

Loved this place - got the mussels with white wine and garlic sauce with a coffee for £5,50. Ok, the coffee isn't great, but the big pile of mussels is great value, cooked on an open pan in front of you. I also took a prawn sandwich on wholemeal bread. Undercover outdoor seating benches are available.

The best deal on smoked salmon sandwiches SO delicious and my friend had the mussels which were a great price and delicious. Fun place at the Oban pier. You eat outside on a bench Lovely people work there

Mussels in the white wine and garlic were to die for. I came up from Edinburgh for a day trip simply to demolish these mussels before the shack shut for the winter.

Yes. It's a shack. No toilets, but you can find them in the ferry terminal next door. The scots do not like sharing their toilets. The oysters were huge. A dozen is too much for one person. The mussels looked good, but we had no room after oysters. They do not believe in cocktail sauce, so bring your own and your own wine too. You probably will be standing at a grubby table. But still a worthwhile experience. They close around 530p.

Five people ordered two platters for two and ten oysters and were super satisfied! The portions were big enough for all of us to eat (even take some away) and well worth a try! Because we ordered a lot, many other tourists eating around us were taking pictures of our meals hahahaha!

My wife and I had the giant seafood platter, which a superb collection of fresh seafood, from lobster, crab, langoustines, squid, scallops mussels and more. Its not cheap, but as an occasional treat of seafood it can't be beaten.

Every seafood is delicious, fresh, and the service is very good. You must eat oysters, scallops, and mussels.

What a delight brilliant sea food large potions excellent cooked in front of you mussels. Razor class in hot garlic butter. The best sea food place I have ever visited tried nearly all food in a week and not one thing bad to say a must if you visit Oban.

This was the best food I had in Scotland. The prices were unbeatable but that did not detract at all from the quality. The service was fast even though there was a big line and the workers were so friendly. There is limited seating so you may have to eat standing up but it is worth it. The highlight for me was the steamed muscles. They were so perfectly cooked and tender. The lemon butter sauce for the scallops were also so great as well. There cold sandwiches are probably the best deal for so much fresh seafood for around 5 pounds.

We come to this seafood hut every time we visit Oban. The seafood is amazing and fresh and the staff are friendly. This time we tried some oysters which were sweet and creamy. We also ordered a salmon sandwich, a shared plate and garlic razor clams. They were all very delicious and fresh. It is definitely our favourite seafood shack in Scotland.

"If you love seafood, this is the best" - father-in-law. Our family has travelled around the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and tried seafood platters everywhere. The platter for two at the Oban Seafood Hut is the best seafood experience we have had. Highly recommended.

An experience right at the harbor... Prices are really OK for a tourist hotspot.

Fresh seafood, but could be more adventurous with the flavours or what's offered. Good considering it's made in a wee shack, could have the same in a sit down restaurant and be none the wiser. Outdoor seating but limited, especially when busy. So consider it an eat on the go or eat standing service.

A no frills just good fresh seafood stall with limited benches by the side. Portions are very generous. We had the prawn sandwich, mussels, oysters and the razor clams. All so fantastic!

A rustic seafood snack bar. To our surprise it was very crowded. Getting a “place” requires patience and time. The food on offer is really tasty, fresh and relatively cheap. I was full from the portion of mussels. My partner had a crab sanswhich and we were struggling to manage it all. Definitely an “experience”.

This is where you want to get seafood. Fresh from the fishing boats parked out front, friendly staff, cook the muscles beside the queue, and great value!

Decided to try this based on reviews while we were in Oban. It’s OK. Seafood/street food fresh from the boat. A bit over priced. Scallops a little overcooked and little white wine taste to the mussels. Seating provided but could be better configured. Sorry to be a bit negative but other reviews seem to escalate this as the place to go. It’s quirky, that’s about it.

I had been looking forward to visiting Seafood Hut on our visit to Oban. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Sandwich, Fresh Mussels and the Seafood Platter with lobster for 2. The mussels were great, fresh and cooked well, Sandwich tasted good. Genuinely disappointed with the platter. The Scallops were good, an awful lot of mussels and only a few claws and langoustine. My main concern was the lobster which wasn’t fresh and the tail was soggy and mushy. Based on the platter my rating would have been 2 stars, however the mussels and sandwich were of good quality as were the scallops.

What can I say..... Special. Very rustic self service with table for eating. It reminded me of eating the fishing boats that arrived at the port with fresh fish

It doesn't matter that there is usually nowhere to eat, what matters is what you eat. Great food, casual, served for scouts, great taste, divine. Lord, more places like this.

Seafood/fast food place with freshly caught seafood. Very good, but bring your own "tools" if you want to access all the food.

As soon as we arrived, we went straight to Local Shellfish. Everyone comes here following the smell of freshly cooked fish. And the oysters are so big that you can't finish them in one bite. I also really liked the lobster, and the langoustes were super!

Oban is like a medium-sized fishing town. Corporate processing and small family businesses dominate. We were looking for a place where local seafood has been served for a long time and with unchanged recipes. This is exactly what I was looking for! Freshly prepared mussels in white wine with garlic, oysters, lobsters, crabs, you name it. Everything is fresh. Tasty and, above all, healthy. The prices are great considering the tight pockets of tourists. Yeah. full mussels for £5.90. Oysters £1.50 each. And I showed more prices in the photo. See it and you must visit it and taste it. I will definitely come back here 👍🏼🥂

A real experience, there is no other way to describe it. Authentic and very good food. The mussels are super fresh, almost straight from the ship, freshly prepared and handed to you. The price is unbeatable (just under £6) for a really good portion. No restaurant can keep up with that. Anytime we're back in Oban! 👍🏽🏴————————————————

Very fresh, there is a daily menu with several freshly prepared hot dishes (otherwise cold dishes). If there was still fresh white bread, the experience would be perfect.

Had the grand platter and it was perfect-the freshest, tastiest, perfectly cooked and varied seafood dish!

Fantastic produce from really friendly staff and at an incredible price. XL dressed crab for a tenner is amazing value. My 5 year old nephew was looking at the live lobsters in awe, and one of the staff took the time to take one out so he could hold it. Moments like that are truly special. Thank you, it made his day!

Our expectations were certainly too high, after all the place was listed in a newspaper article among the 10 best fish stalls in Scotland, so we were really looking forward to it. However, she was disappointed - the crab sandwich as one of the 'signature dishes' was still quite good, salmon was ok but prawn wasn't convincing and I can do better with the scallops in garlic butter even in the camp kitchen, which was unfortunately just unkind Seafood distributed in mass distribution without a working idea of ​​its own. The place itself wasn't really well maintained, no way to even wipe the tosch yourself, let alone consume a glass of wine or any drink with it, as the ambience just wasn't nice. All in all, it's best without love, which is a shame because the products are great, but you can't present it that way, at least that's my personal impression.

All the seafood is very fresh and sweet. Worth to come and try it~~ CASH only, and not many seats over there.

Definitely the place to go for fresh seafood. The scallops, langoustines and mussels were especially delicious and such great value. Sweet, fresh and perfectly cooked (you can opt for it served hot or cold). Although there were queues, service was very quick. Highly recommend.

Excellent. We got the cold seafood plate for 2 for lunch and picked up fresh mussels to cook at our rental that night. They packed this to go with ice. We saved our big smoked salmon filet (wrapped in plastic wrap) and had it another night for dinner; it was big enough for 2. Fast service. Busy but they moved people through very fast. One guy set up with a cooking station to prepare steamed mussels for patrons. Eat standing up at standing height bar-like tables under a canopy (to keep the aggressive seagulls at bay). Street parking (coin or card) nearby in harbour area. We didn’t find any free parking but the pay meter parking was reasonable. I’d return!!

We were passing through Oban on our tour of southern Scotland. Passing by we were attracted by the abundance of molluscs and crustaceans served, but as we approached the counter we saw how a poor lobster still alive (it was moving) was being held with its claws tied to suffer in agony on the ice. This practice is not only inhumane but also illegal and violates all the good practices of those who live thanks to the sea and declare they respect it. In addition to doing business with unaware tourists, try to evolve and respect the animals that give you a living, without torturing them. Respect the laws and maybe take a trip to the nearby oceanographic museum. I love eating fish and shellfish, but I will never be a customer of anyone who inflicts unnecessary suffering on them. Lobsters, lobsters and crabs should not be kept alive on ice with their claws tied!! Very bad.

Fresh and very good fish! Attracted by Google, we found a nice kiosk on the port, with fresh and very good fish. First time for me for oysters... Very fresh but I don't really like them as Z consistency 😅 absolutely must try the crab and scallops!!

We had the mussels, scallops and oysters and everything was AMAZING! Fresh, tasty and great selection. If you leave towards the evening, you may not have everything anymore. Seating is available under the roof and you can also wash your hands there.

Personally I ate some fantastic 🤩 mussels. Here however there is an embarrassment of choice for those who love seafood and shellfish 👍😋

Interesting place, always busy. They serve a wide variety of very fresh seafood. I guess they have become a victim of their own success. We had the crab sandwich and the fully dressed crab XL. These were outright a danger to eat. Both were full with razor sharp bits of the crab’s shell, with the size and sharpness that could actually kill a person.

Amazing fresh seafood atraight off the boats. Mussels and oysters both fabulous.

Value for money, very delicious fresh seafood. We wanted to try their langoustines but it wasn't available hence we ordered their mussels cooked in garlic and white wine. To our pleasant surprise, the mussels came with around 30 pieces and was very worth it. We ordered both the crab and prawn sandwiches to try. We prefered the prawn sandwich over the crab. The prawns were plump and juicy. The crab however had pieces of shell in it - do be careful when eating it.

It's worth it if you like seafood, although for us Spaniards, who have delicious seafood all over our coast, it may not be enough for us. We ordered the mussels, oysters, scallops and smoked salmon sandwich. I recommend everything, especially the mussels and the sandwich. Scottish salmon is a delight.

Stopped here to grab a fresh prawn sandwich for lunch before boarding the ferry to Barra. Oban Seafood Hut (Green Shack) What a fabulous seafood shack on Oban quayside. Team of people making fresh crab or prawn sandwiches. Shucking oysters, cooking lobsters and shelling crabs. You can buy the cooked crab or lobster by weight and eat there and then. The smell of mussels being cooked in Lambrini is delicious, even at 10am! Lovely big wooden table, undercover for diners. We wish we had gone for breakfast too. Just remember CASH ONLY so not disappointed. Huge menu, take time to read. The sandwiches sell out quickly. You can buy freshly cooked, cracked crab claws to pick and suck. 😋
