Coach House

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff

Fox & Hounds

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
29/11/2018: Varied menu. Daily specials. Cask beers Brains SA and Bitter available, well-kept. We ordered homemade tomato soup, Welsh burger, beef chilli and jacket potato with Southern BBQ chicken melt. All good. All delicious. Sweet potato fries too. Homely atmosphere. Excellent service. Wheelchair access but you need extra hands to manage two sets of double doors.
28/11/2018: Good food and friendly staff. Excellent service. Went for a family lunch on Wednesday 21st November.

Toby Cavery - Cardiff Gate

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff, <20£
18/12/2018: Stopped at lunchtime on December 5th for a quick lunch whilst travelling home from the Airport, has to queue a least 20 minutes for food for what was sub standard lunch. poor quality meat with over cooked roast potatoes watery veg but nice gravy. Arrived at 1250 & left and 1350 and have been charged £85 to park, didn’t notice any pay and display signs no signs inside pub either and never mentioned by any staff. Whilst I understand the need for charges in an area like this I think £85 is daylight robbery and Toby Carvery should hand their heads in shame.
10/12/2018: Just the place to meet up and have breakfast and relax, as it’s fairly empty and a nice atmosphere mid morning. Good value for the food, plenty of choice and fresh eggs brought out as needed.

Heron Marsh

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
11/12/2018: Visited here on a week day evening and had 2 carveries and one burger meal. All decent food, fast and friendly service and well priced. Added bonus is that we only live around the corner
06/12/2018: The wife and I decided to try the new carvery at the now named Melrose inn. Should have gone to the Toby.

The Village Inn

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
28/11/2018: When I went to order I was told there was a 30 to 45 minutes wait, I asked why he said they had a Christmas rush (8 oap's) they didn't expect, not busy at all,we waited a couple came in after us got their food before us, I asked how much longer a he said the curry was the hold up, when the food DID arrive 50 minutes later, not hot raw peppers , I went to the bar for drinks 4 staff talking had to ask to be served, and she even got that wrong, don't think we will be returning!!!!!!

Unicorn Inn

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
04/10/2017: Really disappointed with the food. Worst Sunday lunch I have had in a long time. Wouldn't go back again sorry. Shame Pub could be a little goldmine.
02/10/2017: Visited on Sunday for roast the building gives this proper pub vibe until you go inside this place needs alot of tlc and it would be lovely but that money a lot of pubs don't have spare.

The Star Inn

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
26/03/2016: After our nice experience in 2014 my wife and I thought we would repeat it. I rang The Star to check what times they did food - and was told that they had stopped providing food since Christmas. What a shame.
04/10/2015: Food is amazing the best sunday lunch ever, had beef and the lamb - delicious. Compliments to the Chef !

Q'Ero Restaurant

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
01/10/2015: Small, colorful restaurant in a neighborhood just off East side of I-5 on Birmingham Drive, set back behind a gas station. I felt like I was in someone's cottage. Open and airy. Owner is from Peru, not far from Machu Pichu. Homemade food was delicious. It is a sister restaurant to Q'ero in Encinitas, which the daughter owns. I was there for lunch. My friend and I shared the yummy Papa Rellena as an appetizer. I had the excellent Lomo Saltado and quinoa. For dessert, we shared delicious homemade Tres Leches. I look forward to returning there and trying the other restaurant, too.
16/09/2015: There were seven of us and we had plateful after plateful of tapas from across the menu with Sangria to moisten our palates. I am not sure what we ordered as we went with their recommendations and all the plates were finished and the Sangria gone by the end of the evening. The service and the food was outstanding. Well worth being a regular stop.
