Fox & Hounds

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
17/08/2019: Visit this pub quite often and always guaranteed a decent meal. It is obviously a chain restaurant and food is your typical pub grub but always up to a good quality. The new 'chicken your way' is great! Staff always friendly and efficient.
16/08/2019: Brewery owned pub with a good choice menu, daily deals and a good choice of dishes all reasonably priced and cooked to order.

Coach House

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
19/08/2019: Visited this location today after having a few good meals here in the past. Whilst food was reasonable priced as we selected meals from the lunchtime specials, both were luke warm. The location wasn't busy and plenty of staff to deal with our order. There was no check back and we waited at least twenty minutes for food to arrive. The food appeared to have been sat in the kitchen for ten minutes or so before being brought to the table. Another customer returned food while we were eating . One of the waitress was not acting very professional cuddling with a male member of staff. This location has definitely gone down hill since my last visit. Where was the very professional restaurant manager I used to see ??
16/08/2019: We are here on Valentines night because that is our wedding anniversary. No inflated fixed price menu just a specials list at individual prices which you could combine with choices of the normal menu. Good value for money with a great choice of food.

Toby Cavery - Cardiff Gate

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff, <20£
20/08/2019: Just visited this Toby Carvery for dinner with my husband. I booked via the app but on arrival we waited quite a while to be seated. We were told to get our food and the waiter would be back for our drinks order.
20/08/2019: Parking here is now free as long as you register your vehicle on the keypad as you enter the restaurant, carvery was great except for the stuffing, hard as a rock, server was great and carvery filling, good value for money

The Village Inn

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
20/08/2019: Stopped cooking breakfast at 11.30 instead of advertised 12.00 as menu states but able could cook all day breakfast for £7 (£3 more each), landlord then sent message to me saying chef had to prep for lunch which is a lie because if he had to prep for lunch how could he cook offered all day breakfast, left and went to Wetherspoons, i suggest you do same
08/08/2019: Wife and I were stopping over at nearby hotel following an appointment at the local hospital. We could have dined at the hotel but our previous experience of the Sizzling pubs near our home was good so we thought we would try the Village Inn. Having read reviews indicating that it was a very popular venue I did reserve a table on their very accessible on line booking system, so reserved a table for 8.15. We turned up at 8 pm, tired and hungry, and as we were a little early we ordered and paid for a drink at the bar before announcing that we had reserved a table for later. That was our big mistake. We were abruptly told that the kitchen had closed early. Foolishly we argued our case and were placed on a table next to two large rowdy groups, the restaurant being otherwise almost empty. We were told to order food without delay. It was by now too late to return to the hotel's restaurant, so we quickly order some easy to cook meals , scampi and chicken, as we didn't know of any other nearby diner. We waited an hour for food which we assumed was by now being cooked by bar staff as we had been told that the chef had gone. Several times we nearly walked out but having paid we thought we'd stick it out. We did, just as we stuck to the sticky table. Food came eventually, my scampi being edible but my wife didn't touch much of her chicken. We beat a hasty retreat , staff took no notice whatsoever. We felt as elated as if we had just been released from jail. Good luck to anyone who ventures inside this place.

Unicorn Inn

Pontprennau/Old St. Mellons, Cardiff
04/10/2017: Really disappointed with the food. Worst Sunday lunch I have had in a long time. Wouldn't go back again sorry. Shame Pub could be a little goldmine.
02/10/2017: Visited on Sunday for roast the building gives this proper pub vibe until you go inside this place needs alot of tlc and it would be lovely but that money a lot of pubs don't have spare.
