Fantastic food one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and a great value for money special mention to Sophie Emma and Mike who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, hidden gem of a place we will be back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed for one night you cannot fault the rooms for cleanliness, comfort and facilities which for over £80 per night with no breakfast included I woild expect. The owners are very welcoming but most of the bar staff seem very grumpy and don't smile at you. We also booked a table for 7.00pm at the time of booking the room as we had come from Southampton to see our daughter for her 21st who is in uni in Cardiff. Our table was ready when we arrived but the service was the slowest I have ever experienced we were told when we sat down there was a 45 minute delay on food this turned into an hour before starters arrived and then the main course was was another 45 minutes before it arrived. Most of the food was very good albeit my daughters burger was missing the cheese altogether, the minted burgers of the week had hardly and topping on and the brioche buns were stale and dry. We ordered dessert and by this time our daughter had to leave. After waiting a further hour nearly we cancelled the desserts paid the bill and went to our room. Apparently there was an Internet dropping out issue and our dessert order never reached the kitchen. I suppose these things happen and they kindly tooks the drinks off of our bill. We will be returning in July for two nights for our daughters graduation and will be looking for somewhere to stay would we stay again? I would have to give it some serious thought to be honest.

The rooms are just across from the pub, if you wish to book for food do it early as it was extremely busy. About 20 min drive into Cardiff town lots of large stores on the way. The rooms were clean & ideal for a nights stay, lovely shower & towels.

Great place, went for tapas and wine night, Christmas present for from family. Seems a very popular place, second time we've been for a speciality night and would definitely go again if we get the opportunity.

This gastro pub nestled in St Mellons is truly a gem. We were greeted and served by the lovely Tricia, who seated us next to a beautiful open fire. My food of choice was a Prawn Cocktail which was beautifully presented, followed by Braised Brisket which was on a whole other level. The meat was as soft as butter, the accompanying gravy WOW!!! The charm and ambience was just so charming. All around us warm, friendly faces. I was shocked when we received the bill, as in my opinion the food was better than some Michelin restaurants I have eaten in. So... food : Fantastic Pricing : Amazing Staff: Professional but so warm and friendly. Atmosphere: Charming & Delightful. Cannot wait to work my way through the entire menu. We went as a group of four for Sunday lunch and was really impressed with this lovely gastropub. The portions were generous, great tasting and the service was brilliant! The flagstone floors and open fire were a bonus to the cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend and will look forward to returning.

My husband, myself and our grandson had Sunday lunch on the 12th January 2025, at The Ty'r winch. Once again we had the best sunday lunch, that is second to none. You'd be hard pushed to find better, for quality and value for money ( in my opnion) the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The staff so friendly and accommodating. We look forward to coming back.😍

This place is an absolute gem—a 10/10 local pub and restaurant that nails it every time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff are absolute pros, and the food? Absolutely outstanding, tasty and good value. The steak is top-notch, the battered fish is cooked to crispy perfection, and everything on the specials board is pure comfort-food gold. Everything is home-cooked and fresh, which makes me wonder if the kitchen staff have somehow negotiated a deal with the food gods! 😂 Now, let’s talk about the dream team. Mike is so attentive he probably knows your favorite dish before you do. Seriously, the man remembered my “usual” after just one visit—psychic powers or just that good? He even recommended a wine for my wife, and she now swears by it (and probably by Mike too). Alongside Mike- Joyce also keeps things running like a well-oiled machine, and Emma greets you with a smile so warm it might rival the pub’s open fire. The pub itself has a fantastic homely vibe, with cozy nooks for intimate dinners and big tables for family celebrations. And if you're planning a pub crawl, there's parking out the back and a couple of other local pubs nearby to warm up your appetite—though good luck finding a reason to leave this one! I’m here every Saturday evening, and no, that’s not an exaggeration. If you’re looking for a place where the food is phenomenal, the people are lovely, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped into your second home, this is it. See you there next weekend (I’ll be the one hogging the fire)!

Went to the Ty’r Winch yesterday for a Christmas meal with work. Everyone was so impressed with the food that many from the party have booked to go back. Staff were amazing and atmosphere was fantastic too. We planned to have our meal then move on but ended up staying until closing time as we were having such a good time.

This pub / restaurant recieved just one Star. Reason the food . My wife has been really ill from eating here last night. Th2rough out the day we ate lightly as the meal was planned. Unfortunately experienced dodgy food in the past . The symptoms and time line are unquestionable. Surely not the only customer whom will had or have experienced the same. But you generally find they respond claiming you are the only one. The service was very good and a good atmosphere. Power cut did not help but still soldered on . Shame about the food issue. Spoilt the night and now laid up for the day. Wow that is some response quoting ambiguous medical info. Have you done this before. Actually a reaction to food issues as you touch on may occur within a certain time frame. As many have experienced being on holiday with whole hotels being made ill. Being involved with port health in the past . This is a case of illness caused by food ingested. No matter how you wish to try and deflect with quoting as you have. Being more proactive rather than defensive would had helped. Turn a negative into something positive. .mistakes are made and this should be used by any buissiness to improve . Not put up barriers and quoting . As we all know the medical world is full of contradictions and mistakes. To which unfortunately lives are lost. We stand by our experience and notice you have not mentioned are there others whom have been ill. Which is a statement if true may be proved on social media. Let the public decide obviously you have pre bookings . With plenty of covers busy time. Food may get contaminated in many ways. Reheating and left laying about not in correct temperature. There are many including cross contamination. Star rating by the authority can fall as soon as the sticker is in the window. Ihave praised good eateries and there is no biased. It is what it is dodgy food consumed . Let the customers decide if any one else becomes unwell. Usually we found that some places have their mates put up load of good reviews after one bad one.

Food is outstanding, steak is great and atmosphere with open lit fire.

Well due to adverse weather conditions we missed our trip to Bath and stayed here. So we decided to eat our way through the specials menu.

The Christmas party nights are amazing - good food, great entertainment and the hosting is wonderful.

Emma’s service was great and food was lovely.

We arrived at open on Saturday (12.00) and were greeted by the management team, Mike and Joyce. They were incredibly friendly, accommodating and approachable. We ordered from the menu (2 for 12.95), I had the faggots and peas and my wife had the ham, egg and chips. We were extremely happy with the portion size and quality of the food served. The pub itself is very clean, well decorated and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We would like to say a massive thank you to Mike and Joyce for their wonderful service. We will definitely come back!

We arrived at 17:50 ready for our booking at 18:00 and were greeted by Mike, the manager, who was very friendly and directed us to our table without a fuss. We then proceeded to order the 10 Oz steak which came EXACTLY as ordered, and was perhaps, the best steak we have ever had (my wife and I). All staff were friendly, the establishment was clean and well run and wait times were reasonable. The owner took the time to greet guests and was a thoroughly friendly gentlemen. We will be eating here again, this establishment deserves support. Eat here and you won't be disappointed.

Ordered two rib-eye steaks. Service was great, the manager Mike was back and forth to ensure that everything was satisfactory and our waitress Cassie was delightful. The food itself was cooked perfectly, I couldn't highlight a single thing wrong and if I did try to think of something I suppose it would just be to say that the sauce could stand to be a little bit more generous as a serving size. If you like pubs with friendly atmosphere, good food, great service and an even better roaring fire, then this is for you!

Horrendous service, walked in and got seated immediately, waited over 20mins to order a drink, went to the bar to order to be left stood there whilst Mike the manager left me standing there before asking me what I’d like, I gave a drink order to which he said we will come and take your order. Food came, average cooked meat but sauces and other bits were nice. No other customers eating at this point, dirty plates left on our table for over 15 mins after finishing even though numerous staff walked past. I then asked for another small drink and the bill, the bill arrived yet no one came to take the money, I went to the bar and stood and waited to be served the girl behind the bar looked at me and smiled then proceeded to serve a customer, once she served them a lady walked to the bar after me and the girl behind the bar served her immediately even though i was still stood there, I walked off and said to the girl when you’re ready for me to pay please come over, 2 other staff heard and saw yet continued to clean empty tables rather than serve me to the point the people I was with had to ask to pay the bill. Awful service, other than the tall boy who was clearly new but a lovely kid all staff were rude and dare I say ignorant, I counted 8 customers all with drinks, 2 staff cleaning empty tables and 1 stood behind the bar, manager not to be seen. Not the service I’d expect when in here.

It really reminds us of the pub from The Holiday - friendly locals, open fires and a delicious gastropub menu. All three courses were delicious, the staff are so friendly and we can't wait to come back for a pint sometime!

I was travelling from Eastbourne to Liverpool and Wales, I had been to many hotels and this was the last one I stayed in as I was returning to Eastbourne the next day. The room was very good, very comfortable, but I had a nightmare night, my whole body was itchy. I turned on the lights at about 4 in the morning and found bedbugs, something very unpleasant. My arms and back are in very bad shape. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

We had our wedding in the tyr winch on 8th November. We received amazing service from start to finish. Lorna was great and helped everything run smoothly. The venue was decorated lovely and the food was gorgeous - everyone left with a full belly and a plate for lunch the following day. Thanks again

In for a Sunday Lunch with family members. Food good. The serving staff were delightful and most competent. It appears the kitchen was having a bad day. Service was slow. Over two hours for a main and dessert with no coffees to follow.

Me and my friend were in the area looking for something to eat and we were recommended this restaurant. It didn't disappoint, as soon as you walk in there's a lovely cosey atmosphere and the staff are so friendly. The food was beautiful and it's so nice to see locally produced Welsh food on the menu - the faggots were delicious! Highly recommend this place to anyone

Just visited for a midday lunch at Ty's Winch and had a really nice meal. I chose the salad with chicken. The ingredients were colourful, very fresh and worth the various salads dressing tasted wonderful. My wife and father in law also enjoyed their meals. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Reliable and good quality food. Very happy to recommend to others. We had an excellent meal here this evening. The menu is quite extensive offering a range of cooked meals and salads, meat and vegetarian as well as evening dedicated evenings to other national foods . The food is not pretentious but we'll cooked, full of flavour and sensible helpings The starters arrive with fresh and tasty ingredients. The desert menu also provided good choice at sensible prices. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. Would definitely return.

Food here was great if you want some local fare. Lots of pubs no longer have traditional Welsh cuisine, but this one did. Missed out on the Caerphilly onion cake unfortunately. Rooms were clean and tidy, and were very cheap. Staff in the pub were friendly and fantastic. (Give Emma a raise, if Andrew/Lorna read this.)

Came across Tyr winch by accident and so glad I did what an absolute gem. The rooms are clean and well presented and the food in the gastro pub was probably some of the best food I've ever had, great staff very helpful great atmosphere would highly recommend.

On a visit to Wales we booked this pub for Sunday lunch Lovely pub, great decor, outstanding service, fantastic food , great value This pub has set the standard for other to follow I want recommend this pub highly enough I will definitely go back on my next visit

We visit the Ty'r Winch regularly and have Sunday lunch once a month (sometimes twice) as it's absolutely delicious! Lovely choice of veg and every meat we've had so far has been top notch, the beef brisket, turkey and pork loin. We'll be trying the lamb and wellington on upcoming visits! It's not just the Sunday lunch worth having, we've tried 90% of the menu and there's a reason why we return so often, the food is incredible. Favourites include the scotch egg, burnt beef ends, chicken and chorizo skewers, chicken heliwr, the burgers (partner has tried the majority and enjoyed every one) and steak but again we've had pretty much the most of the menu including the desserts and not one complaint. Staff are so friendly and welcoming and couldn't do more to make your visit an enjoyable one. Andrew, Mike, Joyce and Trish we love seeing you! Lots of new young faces behind the bar too who I'm sure we'll get to know. Great range of drinks available and food and drink is reasonably priced. If you can't tell already, we can't recommend this place enough!

A local of mine and I’m so glad it is. The pub itself has a lovely ambience. Warm, inviting and cosy. Every single member of staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is stunning every time. Delicious, hot and great portions. Compliments to the chef! Lovely outdoor area which is great when the British weather decides to behave. Andrew the owner is brilliant and clearly a very attentive and caring landlord always wanting the best for his customers. Fabulous place!

We had a celebration birthday lunch in the function room, excellent food and service, staff couldn't do enough fot our guests. Also had guests staying in the Tyr Winch B&B, the room was excellent, spotlessly clean and staff very helpful.

5 Stars for this great pub. The scotch egg for starters was divine and the Sunday roast was gorgeous and plenty of it, huge Yorkshire pud with plenty of meat and veg The pudding topped it off and we left feeling very full Not overly priced either. Staff were lovely and friendly

Visited this place for the food. Service can be a bit slower than expected and prices are on the higher side BUT, the food we had was really nice and good size portions. Would recommend

The Ty'r Winch pub is local to me and I've visited on numerous occasions for drinks and I've eaten there a couple of times over the years but not for Sunday Dinner, which we thought we would try today. We pre-booked the table which I'm glad we did because the pub was full when we arrived at 2:45pm, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated which wasn't a problem for us. However whilst we were waiting we weren't asked if we wanted any drinks and we were forgetten about. I've mentioned this as it might matter to someone else reading this review but it didn't necessarily matter to us. We both ordered Lamb which was accompanied by a large Yorkshire Pudding, stuffing, and 2 roast potatoes on the plate. Served with this were carrots, garden peas, braised red cabbage and 2 small boiled potatoes in an old school style metal serving dish with 2 halves. When we were seated and asked for our order, neither of us were asked if we had any allergies. I asked what vegetables were served with the meal. Now, yes I know technically that stuffing isn't a vegetable and so I should have also asked that. The person I was with has a nut allergy so whilst we should have mentioned this, equally we should have been asked about allergies. The carrots were so overcooked that they had that horrible watery taste, the braised cabbage was just a bit too sweet, the Yorkshire pudding was stale and tasted as if it had been reheated, possibly in a microwave. The 'roast' potatoes weren't roasted, they looked and tasted as if they had been over boiled and then put in a bit of fat to give them a slight browning. They tasted more like mash potatoes rather than roasted. The lamb had no taste to it, the blocks of stuffing were so dense that the middle of the block tasted uncooked whilst the outside had a crisp to it as if they'd been put under a grill rather than cooked in the oven. We didn't eat the boiled potatoes and the garden peas were just as expected, I don't think you can really go wrong cooking garden peas 🤷🏼‍♀️. We ordered pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese as sides. The pigs in blankets were nice and so was the cauliflower cheese despite it being quite hard to cut the through the cauliflower. I like my vegetables with crunch but I shouldn't have to put so much pressure on the knife to force it to cut the vegetable. The servings of vegetables were quite small however you can ask for extra vegetables for free of charge which I like because it helps to manage food waste which is a massive bug-bear of mine. And so, although I didn't enjoy the meal I did eat the majority of it because I would rather eat the food then it go in the bin. Plus we had woken late that morning and neither of us had had breakfast, and the person I was with was driving to Sheffield straight after the meal and it had taken them 6 hours to drive down yesterday (Saturday) due to traffic jams / accidents, road works and diversions, so needless to say we were hungry. I'm left feeling really disappointed by this meal and I shan't be in any rush to eat there again. However if you want a pub that has a country style setting, a lovely atmosphere and serves some nice wines, spirits and draughts, and a big open roaring fire in Winter then this place ticks all those boxes. I've always found the staff to be welcoming and friendly. There is an adequate sized car park next to the pub which has an easy entry and exit. The scoring and review I've given are solely for the meal.

Last minute booking for a one night stay. Stylish room, impeccably clean, lovely shower. Very comfortable bed. Unfortunately no opportunity to try the food but the Pub looks lovely inside and out. Will definitely use again if in the area.

Cancelled a room booked close to a month ago last minute, after they already received payment for it. Why on Earth would you let me book it in the first place if it wasn't available, and why did you wait until the moment the money was out of my account until you told me?

Cancelled booking 2 days before the trip which was booked 1 month ago. That’s really bad for us as now we have to book another place in such short notice. This has led to absolute chaos. Do not expect this from reputed places.

Had Sunday lunch, which was very disappointing. Ordered 2 beef dinners for children but the beef was thickly cut and very tough to cut & eat. Ended up giving the children my turkey & sausage, as the beef was inedible. Not a large selection of soft drinks.

My wife and I came to the Tyr winch for a Sunday roast which was incredible we both had the beef. Mike who served us recommended a bottle of red wine to complement our meal which paired so well, my wife and I were highly impressed with his knowledge of wines.

Went for Sunday dinner today and we were extremely disappointed with the food. I had the pork dinner and the wife had the lamb dinner. Our yorkshires were cold, the stuffing was solid, the veg accompaniments were carrots, peas and red cabbage, anything more was an extra cost, the pork came with no crackling and the lamb certainly wasn’t cooked and carved off the bone, considering the cost of the 2 meals was over £30, it was really shocking. To top it all off we had to wait 20minutes for the bill. We won’t be returning there again.

We almost didn't go here! My other half vaguely remembered it not being very nice from when he was younger but we thought we'd try anyway as the menu pictures online looked nice and the other half's youth was quite some time ago... Got there, looked like a proper non-chain country pub with good parking and a variety of seating inside and out. Then disappointment struck when I couldn't see the thing I wanted to eat on the menu but it turned out it was a couple of pages in and we were back on again. Joy! As evidenced by my inability to find my peppered chicken on the menu at first, there's a lot to choose from. I'm a problem eater between odd allergies and general pickiness but could still find plenty of options to keep me happy. Our orders were taken quickly with a reasonable wait to be served. Both meals were excellent. Beautifully presented, delicious and the right portion size to leave you full but not bloated. I'm so glad we gave it a go. It's difficult to find anywhere to eat these days that doesn't have just the standard pubco menu on offer and now we've found one just a few minutes' drive away from home. Will absolutely be back again. Thank you for having us :)

My sister and i came on 16th June for Sunday luch.. This is a very busy fabulous pub and the food was first class. The staff are just so fab. The Landlord and Landlady are so friendly and accommodating. They all create a such a warm and friendly atmosphere and I cannot praise this Fabulous pub/ Hotel enough. We definately can't wait to come again. Thanks to you all and of course compliments to the cheff etc. What a fantastic job they're doing.

Mike and Ruby provided excellent customer service. There is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the pub and the food is top notch. Every single staff member we encountered went out of their way to greet us and wish us a nice day. Not only was service swift, the menu choices were great- traditional Sunday roasts with a great selection of other options as well. The ambiance was amazing. 17th century buildings gives a cosy vibe. The service was 10/10 I would give 5/5 stars but only if the beef was freshly ground and not a pre-made patty. The lack of seasoning was a letdown. But the fish and chips was well worth the visit. I will return and try more items from the menu.

Wow what a find! Stayed for one night while working in Cardiff. It’s a beautiful traditional pub, restaurant and hotel. My room is traditional but feels brand new and spotless. The bathroom is awesome and it’s so nice to have all the little touches that make a room feel like it’s been thought out. The bar and restaurant is great. I’m gutted I ate on the way here as the food looks awesome with large portions and some very happy diners. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Free parking too. I’ll be trying to find an excuse for a longer stay in the future.

Booked for Sunday lunch today and unfortunately very disappointed. Atmosphere and staff fine but food not up to standard for the price . Meat was tasteless and obviously came from a packet. Veg tasted frozen . Dessert quality not to a good standard. Won't be making the journey to St Mellons again !

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch again. Food was amazing and exceptional service from the staff, Mike was a perfect host and made us feel very welcome. Can’t recommend highly enough.

The Tyr Winch is our local pub and restaurant which we absolutely love. Their food and drink choices are amazing every time and we love how friendly Mike, Joyce and the team are. Couldn't recommend more!

Had a really delicious meal here on Friday night - loads of choices, including a great specials menu. I had 3 courses which were all fabulous. Service was also excellent with a great choice of drinks. Really nice relaxed atmosphere and the restaurant area is lovely. Many thanks and we will definitely be coming back more often!

It's my local pub, the staff are amazing (especially Joyce and Mike), the food is amazing and the menus are always changing with new specials every week. During the colder months there's a lovely open fire going during all opening hours, can't get a better country pub than this!
