The best restaurants serving Other european-cuisines food in Dumfries & Galloway Lowlands

Sadly they have now closed down, but if they ever reopen it’s excellent. (Aug 2023).

Very nice restaurant mixing classic/ modern British and European cuisine. Although for a Saturday evening in August was quiet, it seems this style of restaurant would do far better in somewhere like Bristol or Manchester or a more fashionable rural area such as Cornwall, mid-Somerset (I.e., Wells), the Welsh borders or Aberystwyth where there will be far more more foody clientele/ customers and where the chef could be more adventurous

One of our favourite places to eat in Castle Douglas, if not our outright one. Proper authentic Italian food of really high quality, and they know how to entertain our 4 year old every time he's in. The fact they remember him is even better. Cannot recommend more highly.

Came on a Sunday which meant roast or evening menu. Went for evening menu. Portions were small and food was average

Surroundings look great having been recently refurbished. The meal was excellent and so tasty Presentation lovely. Staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough. Would highly recommend.

I have dined here twice , once on a Saturday night and once on a Monday night , both times the food was incredible and out of this world , we could not fault the food. The Saturday night was with two friends we all loved the food and the service was great, we had a lovely young woman serving use she was bright and cheery. Our food was delicious, definitely tasted fresh and presented beautifully. Our second first was about 2 weeks later we came on a Monday ( just myself and my husband) unfortunately this time the service was not as good , our food however stayed the same amazing standard, however our server this time a younger girl wasn’t as great , we found little to no conversation with her and when we asked a question regarding the Miso cod she said I don’t know , However the Food won it for us and we will continue to support this Restaurant as whoever the Chef/Chefs is are clearly very very good

I visited Thomas Tosh last week while passing through Thornhill. Delighted to see that my favourite lemon and raisin cake is back on the menu, and that as always, the coffee, service and general atmosphere is good as ever! Thanks again to the staff, will be back next time I’m in the area

My wife and I visited for lunch while staying in Port Patrick. The house itself is relaxing, quiet and full of charm. We had the 4 course set menu which was divine. Soup to start, then salmon! To die for, then venison and cheese for after. Great wine selection, port and coffee. If you want something special and memorable then this is the place to go.

Omg this place is top class!! Previous Michelin Star, they haven't dropped their standard. 2 or 3 course set menu, the menu had a map of Scotland titled The Larder, showing where their ingredients are sourced. I had the best Cheese Soufflé I've ever had, large for a starter and so cheesy tangy. Hubster had the salmon marinated in beetroot, on the small side but delicious. Beautifully rare lamb for main with a filo pastry black pudding, and a lamb samosa, so minty, amazing accompaniments and presentation. Hubster upgraded to a Rib Eye, said it was the best he'd ever had. Chef wasn't keen on serving it blue, but it was perfect. We were full really but couldn't resist the dessert menu. White chocolate rice pudding... omg just the best! And sticky toffee pudding. We'd mistakenly booked a bar table, and couldn't understand why we couldn't move to the restaurant as there were free tables, but the service was excellent, attentive and friendly. It was all amazing, thank you guys 👏

Short weekend break at this lovely hotel, the food was great in the bar which is the same menu as in the restaurant, good breakfasts too, lovely hosts that looked after us very well thanks for everything.

lovely venue and the cocktails are amazing! food was quite a let down - very expensive for the quality that is given. i had the truffle and parmesan fries, and the majority of the fries looked like crumbs - like what would come out of a freezer bag of chips at the very end. the sauce was quite flavourless. the chicken wings were lovely though, as was the chicken taco, and the halloumi fries. food is quite hit or miss i’d say, but the cocktails more than make up for the food.

First time visit, the place was lovely, well placed seating and the decor especially the hand made tapestry was amazing. Our server was more that happy to tell me about them and my friend and I was seated in an appropriate corner. Foor was Wounderful and the chips are proper chips that you get at home as I kid. We were checked upon on a regular basis. I'm coming back as I think it is my new favourite place.

Recently had a great meal from the Top Chippy, great food, good price and pleasantly served. Everything was freshly cooked and was of the highest quality

The meal on offer was a carvery, every carvery I have been to you go to the servery and chose your meat and the help yourself to the vegetables, not here the waitress asked which meat we wanted this was then plated and served with a very small selection of vegetables. There was very little meat, and it was not very hot, we asked for extra gravy which came in a milk jug !!!!!!. The fresh Fruit salad was mainly tinned friut. Needless to say we will not be dining here again.
