Short weekend break at this lovely hotel, the food was great in the bar which is the same menu as in the restaurant, good breakfasts too, lovely hosts that looked after us very well thanks for everything.

Traditional country hotel and restaurant. Friendly welcome, pleasant attentive and courteous staff. Clean comfortable rooms, if you like a firm bed. Extensive dinner menu and traditional breakfast. Food quality excellent. Recommended.

We were staying at a nearby campsite and I'm happy we made the effort to call by. The food was very good and the service very friendly. There was even a Barnsley FC flag to make me feel extra welcome!

I stayed at this hotel on business for 3 nights.. The decor is a little dated ,the room I had was called Skeoch,a large room, very comfortable. The one thing that stood out about this hotel was the food,a very selective menu.I can and will recommend this hotel, not only for the food but the friendliness of the staff and Ken the owner,he made us feel very welcome during our stay there.A++++++++ We will use this hotel again😁

Omg this place is top class!! Previous Michelin Star, they haven't dropped their standard. 2 or 3 course set menu, the menu had a map of Scotland titled The Larder, showing where their ingredients are sourced. I had the best Cheese Soufflé I've ever had, large for a starter and so cheesy tangy. Hubster had the salmon marinated in beetroot, on the small side but delicious. Beautifully rare lamb for main with a filo pastry black pudding, and a lamb samosa, so minty, amazing accompaniments and presentation. Hubster upgraded to a Rib Eye, said it was the best he'd ever had. Chef wasn't keen on serving it blue, but it was perfect. We were full really but couldn't resist the dessert menu. White chocolate rice pudding... omg just the best! And sticky toffee pudding. We'd mistakenly booked a bar table, and couldn't understand why we couldn't move to the restaurant as there were free tables, but the service was excellent, attentive and friendly. It was all amazing, thank you guys 👏

It's a great shame that this place will be closing shortly because the food and the staff are so lovely! Super according to a coeliac and went above + beyond in everything. Best of luck to Mr Pooks and all those involved in this little gem.
