We were staying at Trigony for my mom's 70th birthday weekend, and we ate in the restaurant two out of the three nights we stayed, and wished we had eaten there all three nights. The meal I had on the Friday was so delicious I had exactly the same again on the Saturday. We were a group of 6 and everyone was just so happy with their food, delicious ingredients prepared so well. They even made a cake for my mom's actual birthday on the Saturday, which was absolutely delicious. We had a spa day on Saturday and had a beautifully prepared afternoon tea made for us, I think we might have let them down because we weren't able to finish it all there was so much, but we gave it a good go :)

Visited with friends for a "special" birthday. Upon arrival, we were shown into a small comfy sitting room for pre dinner drinks, drinks were ordered, and the wine was placed on our dinner table. The waitress disappeared, and we were unable to get our drinks refreshed. We selected our food and placed our order when staff finally re appeared. We were shown to our table and our food arrived, we would have liked some more vegetables but there was no sign of the waitress. Our plates were eventually cleared, and desserts ordered, which again was very nice. At no point were we, where we asked if our food was ok or if we needed anything. When the bill arrived, it was more expensive than the price stated for a 2 course meal online. When this was brought to the attention of staff, we were basically fobbed off. To sum up, delicious food but rubbish staff

Trigony is, overall, the best small hotel I have visited for a long time. Our room had character, was comfortable & clean and had great views over the garden. Breakfast and evening meal were a delight. The wine advice in relation to the food on the evening menu was really helpful and fairly priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. The overall price was was very good in relation to the standards achieved. I recommend this hotel and its restaurant.

Our 7th or 8th trip to Trigony. So good we've lost count. Always made to feel welcome with excellent food and comfy bedrooms They've made it Covid compliant with aplomb although some of the quirky things that made it such fun have had to be set aside for now. Will we be back? Of course!

The breakfasts were to die for - plenty of choice; home made granola and fresh fruit followed by sumptuous breakfasts which set you up for the day. Comprehensive wine list and dinner menu. Friday night was the better night. I had pigeon which was very good. The main course: Vension, cooked beautifully. Dessert, Creme Brûlée - sorry but I can create a better Brûlée, although it had a good crust the contents were bland and too solid. Saturday, starters we both had duck which was VERY stringy with too much hoy sauce. Main course was Hake which was okay. Dessert, my wife had brownie and coconut - wish I had had that as the cheese selection was very bland and the suggested dessert wines were the same level including the port selection. Suggest Richard the waiter needs to sharpen his appearance.

Firstly you enjoy a drink in the lounge with complimentary olives. The menu changes continually, you have a choice of 4 starters / mains / deserts, £25 for two course, £35 for 3, desert includes coffee - which you can have again relaxing in the lounge. It's not a cheap place, bargain hunters look elsewhere, but for a romatic / celebration blowout, it's the business. Between relaxing in the lounge pre and post meal and the meal itself, we were there for 3 hours and you are never rushed. The food is excellent, the service attentive but discreet, not fawning over you like some places can. They also do large groups, 15 dentists / medics who were at uni together 30 years ago were in and were clearly having a good time. All of this in a period hotel with grounds setting, so if dry a great place for a relaxing stroll.

The atmosphere is very laid back, welcoming and relaxing. The staff were all very helpful and friendly without being pretentious. As a local tried the Trigony for a meal only in December 2013. Did not know what to expect and whilst we could not really fault the food, hence rating, there was just something amiss which would not make us rush back.It was a cold night and the fire was lit but we were seated as far away from the fire as possible in an otherwise empty dining room, would have been nice to be closer to the log fire!! As with other reviews I'm not quite sure exactly what this establishment is trying to achieve. Perhaps as a resident the overall experience would have been better, I'm not sure.We may return for lunch and give it another go but I think we will return to other restaurants for dinner before this one.

Both my wife and I would rate the Trigony as the best two days accommodation we had in our travels. Beautiful surrounding and gardens build up your expectations when you drive in. You will not be disappointed. We stayed here in the Hotel, our room was luxurious and it was considered to be a lesser room, if that is possible. This is an expensive place but the value is there with service from obliging Adam and the staff. The meals were beautiful. I won't say what I had because the menu is seasonal as good restaurants should offer. Ordering your meal while sitting by the fire and having pre-dinner drinks and nibbles as you order is so relaxing. When you are invited to sit and settled in the beautifully set out dining room your meal is served. This is a dog friendly place and your doggies can share everything even dining albeit in a the bar dining area. If you are staying there are plenty of lanes to walk along with the dogs and while you need to travel a little to other sites such as the lead mines and small railway, we managed to rest and yet see all that we wanted. Trigony is highly recommended, sadly not sure if our travel plans will be able to include an return visit but we shall surely try!!

This was just my cup of tea. Small and personal yet not overbearing. The food was to die for with great helpings but impecably balanced in flavour. I'm confused by Trigony as I am not sure where they are trying to place themselves in the market. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a restaurant with a little something special, but I'm not sure I have found it -- surprising based on other reviews.I expected informal dining with quality food in a homely atmosphere and while it does tick these boxes there were several let downs. The first thing that stuck me was the severe lighting in the restaurant area. The room has 24 covers yet the lights could have been for a room three times as large -- definitely too bright. The room also received the occasional waft of an air fresher from somewhere!Service was informal (a plus point) but chaotic. During our starter I asked for bread and our server said, 'Sure, no problem, you want more bread'. I said 'No, we want bread; we never had any previously'. The thin, uninspiring four slices that did arrive were stale.I had scallops as a starter then fish (Seabass) in a fragrant Thai sauce -- the flavours were exquisite and the fish cooked to perfection. However the main was let down by far too many bones. I always think if you get more than two bones it is a lazy chef; I had six. My fellow dinners had a better experience but all were meat based. The wine selection was ample, covering most tastes and the price per bottle reasonable. Both the male and female toilets had no towels and we had to ask for fresh one.Overall my party of four left with mixed feelings. In the interests of fairness we will return at some point as it could simply have been an off night. I think we shall leave it for a little while in order to allow this experience to move to the back of our minds.

Omg this place is top class!! Previous Michelin Star, they haven't dropped their standard. 2 or 3 course set menu, the menu had a map of Scotland titled The Larder, showing where their ingredients are sourced. I had the best Cheese Soufflé I've ever had, large for a starter and so cheesy tangy. Hubster had the salmon marinated in beetroot, on the small side but delicious. Beautifully rare lamb for main with a filo pastry black pudding, and a lamb samosa, so minty, amazing accompaniments and presentation. Hubster upgraded to a Rib Eye, said it was the best he'd ever had. Chef wasn't keen on serving it blue, but it was perfect. We were full really but couldn't resist the dessert menu. White chocolate rice pudding... omg just the best! And sticky toffee pudding. We'd mistakenly booked a bar table, and couldn't understand why we couldn't move to the restaurant as there were free tables, but the service was excellent, attentive and friendly. It was all amazing, thank you guys 👏

One of our favourite places to eat in Castle Douglas, if not our outright one. Proper authentic Italian food of really high quality, and they know how to entertain our 4 year old every time he's in. The fact they remember him is even better. Cannot recommend more highly.
