Shocking service I don't normally review While doing a small tour of the area and having stopped at the close several times we decided to stop there for lunch that was a wasted 45 minutes We Sat in the garden got ignored for around 10 minutes in the end I went inside to ask for menus i had to stop a waiter to ask as i was continually ignored as staff walked past never asking can I help you I took the menus outside 2 visits from a waiter to another table again never looking around or asking would we like to order a some time later a second waiter appeared at the wooden station again no acknowledgement whatsoever we then decided we were wasting our time we really should not be trying to chase some service the staff here need some desperate training even a comment of I will be with you shortly would have been great ! And acceptable ! We returned to painswick for some great service and had lunch there But it's nice to see the close is doing so well they don't need to worry about lost custom

After leaving it for far too long we returned to our favourite restaurant in the UK last week. I've written before how good it is and I'm about to do so again. Living in Birmingham we have a choice of Michelin starred restaurants on our doorstep, now sadly one one less with the closure of Purnell's, but it's a scenic round trip to a Cheltenham restaurant that tops them all. Obviously the level of cooking at these places is top notch but the overall experience of LCS is what sets it apart. There is no tasting menu but set lunch and dinner menus (two or three course) - which offer incredible value - as well as an extensive a la carte menu. The wine list is extremely well put together and has a pricing range which suits all pockets, unlike some of its contemporaries! Some reviewers bemoan the lack of music; others compare it to a library or church but not in a good way. We find it has a calm and pleasant ambience. The tables are well spaced and people are chatting and laughing quite freely - possibly helped by mobile phone use not being allowed in the dining area. We had the set lunch menu which allowed us to taste gurnard for the first time as well as an exquisitely cooked beef and ox-tongue dish which melted in the mouth. The cheese board is - as it always has been - a masterpiece, arriving in a wicker basket full of cheese for you to choose at the table; or let chef David select for you allowing for personal preferences to be included. The coffee and petits fours are a sublime way to finish your meal. The latter are particularly fine, varied and plentiful. I haven't mentioned the nibbles, amuse bouche or the breads including a signature brioche with bacon but they, and the excellent front of house service provided by Helen and her team, all combine to consistently deliver a superb dining experience. Parking is available at a nearby car park, currently ÂŁ2.30 for three hours - a time span which is perfect for a leisurely lunch - only a short walk away. We won't leave it so long for our next visit!

Tried to visit here for breakfast around 1000, told we had to wait until 1130 as we did not have a reservation. It is a cafe in name only - itâs a restaurant and the staff were indifferent to the fact I wasnât aware a reservation was necessary. In my view, a cafe should accept walk-ins. If you require a reservation, they should put a sign at the bottom of the metal access steps so people are aware before they walk up there and try to get a table. Food appears overpriced and pretentious. If you want a decent breakfast, quickly and at a reasonable price, head to Wetherspoons V-Shed on the dock only a couple of minutes walk away, you will be much more satisfied. I should have gone there first rather than wasting my time walking up here.

A really relaxing 3 day spa break, with beautiful food and surroundings. We went for the spa break deal with food and 50 minute treatment included when booked monday to thursday. Excellent menu choices on the evening and the breakfast was beautiful. A good menu selection with buffet continental. Spa was a bit busy in the morning with members, but had it to ourselves in the afternoon. Enormous rooms and relaxing gardens to stroll around. Also has dog friendly rooms, which we will take up next time.

I visited Summer Lodge with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We ordered a cream tea which was advertised as freshly baked scones daily. We were shown to the drawing room and sat down. Then a waiter came to ask what tea we would like and tried to joke with us which was not necessary. The scones arrived and were frozen in the middle! So much for freshly baked scones! When I complained the waiter then said ' so much for our freshly baked scones!' Then joked that we must have got them out of our handbags! Totally inappropriate. Not a great experience for parting with ÂŁ34 for 2 cream teas! The building and setting is very lovely. A shame that our experience was not up to expected standards.

Wednesday lunch in the sun at the Watering Hole. Had steak loaded fries with garlic sauce and crispy onion bits. Portion was huge we could have shared one to be honest. Never had a bad meal in the multiple times we've had breakfast, lunch or dinner here, top notch venue đ

On holiday for a few days. Nice enough place. Below average meal. Fish and chips- fish over cooked. Houmous was horrible never had bad houmus, So didnât eat it. ( told them it wasnât very nice but didnât take it off the bill) Chorizo tapas was beautiful. Mussels for tapas was plentiful but too salty. Ravioli was lovely. Had lemon tart and cherry cheesecake for deserts both lovely flavours but the lemon tart had soft pastry on the bottom. Cherry ice cream was fantastic. I feel that if you choose the right thing , you will enjoy your evening
