We ate here as a couple for a special occasion on a Thursday night. On offer was chateaubriand for two, with a bottle of wine for £70. We went for this and it was an absolute steal. For starters we had the peppercorn squid and cured salmon, both also very good. Would definitely eat here again. Service was also excellent.

We loved this hotel. Just stayed for the 2nd time and it was just as good as our first visit. Great location in the centre of Tetbury. Really comfortable, well equipped and good size bedrooms. Excellent breakfast, very relaxing bar area fantastic value for money for a mid-week break and really friendly and helpful staff especially in the bar and restaurant. Highly recommend this hotel and we have already booked our next stay!

Walked in to The Close and was greeted by some not so lovely staff. On booking I mentioned we were bringing our well behaved dog and the hotel ‘prides’ itself of being dog friendly. After walking in we were not greeted and were ushered to our table. This table was tucked away in the corner, fine by us! However, after 25 minutes of waiting to be asked what we’d like to drink my partner went up and asked if he could order. He was sent straight back to the table where a very unfriendly person took our food and drink order. Food came and it was delightful, ever part of it delicious. After finishing we waited 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared (we were planning to have desserts!) but they weren’t so I went up to the bar to pay… the waitress literally threw both receipts at me, and when I say throw I mean throw!!! Would have been the best experience if it wasn’t for the staff.

Had a delicious birthday lunch here with the family, including two children. They were able to choose items from the children’s menu as well as from the normal one. Everything was very tasty apart from the Beetroot Terrine, and the Shaved Heritage Carrot Salad, both of which were a bit bland. Loved the Chilli and Garlic Roasted Broccoli, and the Torched Cornish Mackerel. The staff were friendly but service was a bit slow, possibly because it was Sunday lunchtime.

We had dinner at the restaurant as we were staying at the hotel for a weekend away. The staff were fantastic, very attentive! The food options were great too. As someone that doesn’t eat meat, I was a little worried before but the menu had some lovely options for me. The only downside for us was that we were there for a romantic weekend away without the kids and in the restaurant you have tables for 2 (or 1 x 4) around a large table in the middle, which on the night we were there was made up of a family gathering so it was loud. I would personally but the larger table to the side and have the tables for 2 in one area to make it more of a romantic setting. We still had a great time and big thanks to all the staff.

Anyway the menu at The Close caught our eye and we booked that evening. It was fabulous. Food✅ Restaurant decor ✅ Staff✅ Starters of torched mackerel with apple and caviar for me ( don’t get to excited by the caviar it’s only a token) the wife had perfectly cooked scallops and black pudding. Mains - me Lamb cutlets - great not too pink she - English pea ravioli All dishes faultless OK it’s not that cheap but it’s not unreasonable. Food was average at best. Chips were cremated and yet had a soft texture. Burgers were solid. The staff seemed uninterested, didn’t know who ordered what, and came with that “we’re too good for this” attitude built-in. A lovely venue. We were welcomed upon arrival and swiftly seated and drinks orders taken. The afternoon tea itself was lovely. Finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and lovely puds. The only disappointment was when we received the bill, we were charged for the coffee we had instead of tea. The menus were taken away so quickly at the beginning we didn't check if there was a charge for having coffee instead of tea. Looking on the website it appears coffee is part of the afternoon tea so this left the nice afternoon quite bitter. Service otherwise good and I'm sure we will visit again when we are in the area.

Aquí estamos. . . . He estado en Bélgica. Genial gracias

From the outside this place looks like a standard local pub but as soon as you step over the doorstep it’s another matter. We were lucky to go on a hot day and the garden outside is just a perfect place to sit and sip drinks. The main seating is classic English deck chairs but there are some benches for those who may struggle with deck chairs. The whole place oozes class and sophistication. A few people took their dogs who were also enjoying the ambience. We ordered dinner at the garden restaurant inside of beef fillet, rack of lamb and beef sirloin. The place was very busy with seemingly very few working there. Here we go I thought. However, I need not have feared as the girls were very good and worked their socks off to make sure we were served in a timely manner. There clearly was a Brunch crowd who drifted off and we sat in the beautiful garden on a warm sunny day. But garden, restaurant and bar area were all busy which is a good sign for business. The warm goats tart was absolutely delicious and set the tone very well. The chicken Kiev was huge and more then plentiful. And as a combo it meant I could have the fixed price menu at a very reasonable sum.

Four of us went to The Close for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were seated at a small table in the bar with hardly room to juggle our plates. We were served by three different staff which didn’t help communication. First off we ordered two coffees with hot milk. The milk that arrived was cold. We sent it back. We ordered a latte to be served in a cup. It arrived in a glass. We sent it back. The Cappuccino was as ordered. The confusion arose, because one person took our order at the table and another delivered it. The coffees at £3.50 each are expensive. We then ordered three full-English breakfasts and one avocado & poached eggs. This was tepid and served with cold cherry tomatoes. We were informed that the full breakfast would be without black pudding, but no substitute was offered. The breakfast was also luke warm and had to be eaten in haste: 2 poached small eggs with minimal white, one sausage, two rashers of streaky bacon, half a tomato and one small open mushroom. Toast had to be ordered as an extra side. We ordered three rounds, none of which arrived. All in all it was a very disappointing experience.

So the hotel is stunning, the staff are amazing and so friendly and go the extra mile. BUT, the food for us was so disappointing and at dinner it was all about the prawns. I ordered prawns with garlic, chilli, wasabi and creme fresh as a starter. For £12 I was expecting something great, but not a sniff of garlic or a heat of chilli. And the tiny dots of wasabi and creme fraiche were not enough. Main of beef rib was tasty. Husband’s starter of crab cocktail was good, but his main of prawn linguine was bland. Frozen rubbery prawns. Agnes was lovely though and took my prawns off the bill which helped with the disappointment. The breakfast the next day was again disappointing. Cold coffee, un-toasted muffin for eggs benedict. I asked for it to be toasted and it came back but was still not good, and poached eggs were very hard. Husband’s scrambled egg and smoked salmon was nice, but no butter with toast. The hotel was very noisy at night which I know they can’t help as it has squeaky floor boards, part of the charm of an old country house, but people were outside the front smoking and making such a noise. There is no aircon so as it was warm, we had windows open and the smoke was coming in the bedroom at 1am. For nearly £500 for two nights b&b; we were really disappointed. Oh and by the way, we chose to eat at the Italian down the road which was average and they said they get a lot of The Close’s customers.

In the wonderful tetbury, a place of some distinction , directly on the center of downtown but with an outstanding inner garden and several beautiful restored ambient inside (it is part of a cosy and fine hotel).

Monday evening meal for wife and I on an Anniversary. We have visited this hotel many times over past few years. We love the setting and the Resturant. We had a good evening but not great. The food was okay but not memorable, but with nothing to complain about. Staff okay but not over attentive. The main concern we had was that the evening cost was well over what we expect for what we had both food and drink wise. Also the 10% service charge is a joke and I now wish I had asked it to be removed. An anticipated memorable night was a disappointment due to cost. Will not return in a hurry better value for money can be found.

Visited the Close to have an afternoon drink in the very nice garden. The only drawbacks were the very high price of a glass of wine and the pint of beer having to be taken back due to it being the last of the barrel - cloudy and bad tasting.

Hotel and food quite good but please make sure you fully understand the wine pricing and don't get inadvertently charged way, way more than you expect. This applies to all Tetbury hotels where some fairly ordinary vino is very heavily marked up so do take care and look at the wine list and do the by glass/bottle math. We're seeing ritzy London pricing which the tourist might not expect in non ritzy rural Glos ~ this isn't Mayfair.

We ate here on a friday ,so took advantage of their steak deal - 2 steaks and a bottle of wine £30.We were brought hot bread which was nice - we don't normally do starters (opting for deserts instead! ).We decided on a couple of additions to our steak meal as it comes with just the vine tomatoes, chips and mushrooms, every thing was extremely tasteful and good quality, we also upgraded our wine to Chile for an additional £5.Deserts were also fabulous, fruit crumble. We had thoroughly enjoyable evening in a wonderful setting. Thanks also for the excellent service

We ate in the restaurant as part of a half board package while staying at the hotel. There was no nonsense about a special menu or supplemental charges - you chose what you wanted from the normal menu. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the comfortable lounge - there's a very good cocktail menu. The food was well executed particularly my sea bream on the second night. However although most dishes came with a vegetable of some kind it's somewhat annoying to have to order (and pay for) potatoes separately. The wine list was a tad pricey but not outrageously so. Staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful.

We love eating out in the hotels pretty garden, but as the weather gets colder we find that the bar and restaurant offer a cosy place to enjoy a good selection of bar snacks and restaurant dishes which are updated monthly. Staff are very pleasant and we often go for coffee and sometimes an afternoon cream tea which is a special treat.

Really warm welcome from friendly waitresses. Seated and immediately given iced water while I waited for my husband. We had the fixed price lunch menu, plenty of choice on it. Ham hock terrine delicious and well presented. Chicken kiev and sea bream tasty. Hubby loved his sticky toffee pudding.Drinks a bit over priced but the food made up for it.The dining room is very Victorian gothic, with nice log fire. Plenty of outside tables for summer dining.Having initially tried a pub at the other end of Tetbury where the barman (the only person in there) ignored us, this was such a contrast.

We stayed at The Close Hotel and had dinner in the dining room one night. It was creative and tasty but the menu seemed limited. Service was great and friendly and the ambience was exactly right. We had eaten at other hotels in the same chain throughout the week and the menus were too similar, The Close was the last place and we were ready for more variety.

Probably the most pretentious hotel/bar/restaurant in town and also charges a lot more for drinks than everywhere else! That being said the building is very well presented and has a lovely atmosphere. The rear garden is so tranquil and relaxing we could have sat there all day, but we couldn't justify the drinks prices. Its not that welcoming if your just coming off the street for a drink and it was apparent hotel guests take priority. They would be better off trying to draw more people in who are non-residents as it makes you feel out of place as a regular punter.

I can only say they must have had me in mind when they designed this hotel because for me it was completely perfect in every way. Superbly helpful staff who all went the extra mile and communicated well with each other and with us. They even rang me to check I had found the train station when picking up my friend to make sure we wouldn't miss our lunch. I had soup, roast beef and lemon posset and my friend had smoked salmon, sea bream and Eton mess with a glass of fizz - this was all included in our room price and made the whole thing amazingly good value for money. The room with comfy beds, beautifully decorated. The shower room with rain shower and soft close loo. The gorgeous gardens with deckchairs and seating area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Free parking. Free wifi. Beautiful food and we also had a voucher for a free drink. We paid for early check in which was a lovely bit of luxury. They do a turn down service and replenished complimentary water. They give you a generous jug of fresh milk for tea and coffee in your room. There is plenty of choice of teas and coffees in the room as well as home made flap jack. Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay is there. When I left at 6 a.m. (Long drive) - they even made me a breakfast and I was able to sit by the garden window and eat properly before I left. I can't praise this hotel highly enough. In fact, I'd like to move in and live there. I've stayed in a lot of hotels this year but this one beats the rest. Thank you to all the staff for making our trip so enjoyable, despite all our travel difficulties (cancelled train). The hotel is in the middle of the village with shops and places to eat on your doorstep. We combined our stay with a visit to Highgrove Gardens which is highly recommended.
