Mud Dock Cafe in Bristol, City of

Today we went for brunch at the Mud Dock. Having eaten here on many occasions I was extremely disappointed to find that the food and service has sadly deteriorated. Positives: Prime location Staff welcoming and friendly Negatives: Food of poor quality We waited ages to be served We had to help ourselves to cutlery A simple dish of poached eggs and smashed avocado on sourdough bread was sent back as the eggs were undercooked and cold The cafe was extremely busy today but this should not be an excuse for poor food and service, quality food and service over quantity of customers should always prevail!

Good coffee, friendly, buzzy atmosphere, good harbour views.

Popped in to eat on way home, they loved the spaniel and two good plates of food.

This place is beautiful, you have a wonderful view of the water, the outside seating area in the sun just makes it even better. The service and food were amazing and so well done.

Only stopped for a coffee and chat with friends Good Coffee, Great Harbourside Location, with great outdoor seating area, with great views. A very enjoyable experience in a very relaxed environment. Food options, looked great, will have to try on next visit to Bristol

First time in Bristol and glad I came in - great vibe

Decent location and nice decor; I like the rustic feel, the bicycle theme and the inclusion of bike components in some of the furniture. Nice harbourside location. Usually busy on a weekend, booking is highly advised to avoid disappointment. Food is good without being great, for example the full breakfast at the nearby Arnolfini cafe is a bit better for a similar price. Service really needs improving. Slow. No attention to detail; didn't clear used cups and plates away, didn't provide enough water glasses etc. Things that could, and should, be better. We booked a table for three people for brunch at 11am on a Sunday; after a coffee each we all ordered a cocktail, mimosas and a bloody mary, but after taking our order the waiter returned to inform us that the alcohol licence didn't start until midday. I saw no mention of this on the website, on the table menus or anywhere else. This is poor. Not an unpleasant experience overall, but certainly disappointing.

We had booked a table for brunch for 11am. There was a good choice on the menu, and our meals were delicious and of good value. We were disappointed that we could not order Mimosas or Bloody Mary's as no alcohol was available until midday despite cocktail menus being on all the tables. Service was no great. The table was not cleared, and it was difficult to get the attention of our server after our initial order. There was a time limit of an hour and a half on our reservation, and we had to be asked to leave. This was OK as we had been aware, but when service is slow and difficult, it seemed a little short. Great venue with a good ambiance and a good location with plenty of parking nearby as long as you are a local, or carry plenty of coinage for the meter!

Sunday morning it was packed and we only could seat outside. It was windy that day and it was quite cold over there. It took around 40 minutes for breakfast to arrive, food was ok and staff is friendly.

I awoke on this splendid morning and fancied a jaunt to a sunny location with sausages. I got both of those things in spades (one sausage). Rolly jolly fantastic.

We had 4 for Saturday breakfast here recently with another couple and had a great experience. We arrived first and were shown to our table and offered the opportunity to order drinks while we waited for the other couple to arrive. Once they arrived we all ordered breakfast - 1 full english, 1 veggie and 1 vegan plus 1 eggs florentine. All the food was top notch. The baked beans were to die for. The veggie bubble and squeek croquette was quite as fantastic as the waitress made out but still nice. The coffee was great and a bottle of tap water was a nice touch. The location is superb on the waterside. Only 4 stars as one of the coffees was just warm when served.

Had a really disappointing experience at this cafe. The service was incredibly slow from the moment we walked in. We had to wait for our coffee for ~20 minutes, and it only arrived after our food was already served. Asked if could move to another table, and the waiter said they would check but never came back with an answer.

Lovely friendly welcome, followed by a great lunch sitting outside on the terrace. Burger and a salmon caesar salad went down well and customer service great. Recommend.

Me encanta el café Mud Dock. Es uno de los lugares que visito a menudo cuando estoy en Bristol. En verano, la terraza exterior tiene una vista fantástica también. Esta vez un grupo de nosotros vino a desayunar / almorzar el domingo. Reservamos, y era una buena idea hacer esto incluso a las 10. 30 am el lugar estaba lleno. Mi marido y yo tuvimos el desayuno vegetariano con un extra de tostadas. ¡Pensé que era de primera clase! El servicio era genial - la persona que nos atiende dijo que era su primer día en el trabajo, pero era natural. Oh y el lugar también era agradable para los perros! Lo recomendaría y espero volver a visitar en algún momento.

Interesting venue, nice food, good views

Very nice café and a popular one near the harbour side. If you go early enough you may avoid the long queue to get a seat. Perfect place to go with friends on a bright sunny day. I had their English breakfast and it was so good. Service was good too ✨ I also loved their custom clay pots.

The cakes were nice yet there was only a small selection available, and the drinks were nice

Really lovely little venue. We popped in while waiting for a concert to open. Beautiful little café, really interesting interior, a little balcony which I imagine would be beautiful in the summer. Would absolutely return if I'm back in that area

This is always an essential stop when visiting Bristol, in summer or winter. The cafe has great views, a nice friendly atmosphere and really nice food. We often eat lunch here and the coffees are also delicious. Buttermilk pancakes are a favourite along with eggs royale or a loaded focaccia. Plus there are the cakes... As an appetiser, I normally visit the bike shop downstairs to gather inspiration for future trips (it's not that far to cycle to Wales for a day out). They have lots of interesting stock and really good prices too (they also do branded cycle jerseys). Well worth a repeat visit and I will be back when next in town. Fun fact - Paul McCartney held a book launch here.

Mud Dog Café is a hidden gem with a fantastic location and great views, all from a casual and unassuming spot. My friends and I had a wonderful meal, and I was excited to discover they serve pancakes—apparently a rare find in Bristol! The staff were really cool and added to the laid-back, welcoming vibe. If you’re looking for great food and a relaxed atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Food was good. Team were very friendly and accommodating even though it was really busy. Tables are just too small.

Lunch here yesterday. I had a brilliant breakfast and my partner had mushrooms on toast (vegan). The food was lovely, best breakfast I've had in a long while, and the mushrooms were excellent too. We had freshly squeezed orange juice, a perfect accompaniment. Service was excellent we were really well looked after. This is an upper floor establishment with lovely views over the river and docks. The tables seem to have plenty of space around them we didn't feel squashed. The bar area with the big glass window was a good idea and the big circular window is beautiful. I really enjoyed my brunch and I'm looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommended.

Service was friendly but inattentive. We weren't offered a children's menu despite having a 3 year old with us. It wasn't clear whether the specials on the boards were available as well as the brunch menu. There was a long wait to order while watching staff unloading the dishwasher and studiously avoiding my gaze. It was difficult to ask questions about the food, and we had to call our waiter back to ask for cutlery. I also overheard the neighbouring table being served a wine that wasn't the one they had ordered (the menu hadn't been updated) and their waiter sounded surprised and slightly annoyed that they were sending it back. I am aware they were busy but it generally felt sloppy and substandard. Food was good if not exciting, but if you are going to have a kids meal then tweak the seasoning to their palate or make it clear it's the same as the adults. The portions were also quite big but no kids portion of the full English.

Stunning! Helps the sun is out today for the first time in forever, but our first trip to Bristol is off to a great start with brunch at the Mud Dock cafe. Nice buzzy atmosphere, really friendly service from the staff and the food and coffee are very, very good indeed!

Honestly one of the coolest city wedding venues in Bristol. Such a cool space with epic views over the harbour. LOVED working here and looking forward to being back!!

This place is perfect, five stars. It is spacious, near an enjoyable area, and with a beautiful terrace where enjoy the view. The food was amazing, we had eggs royale and a massive pancake. The service is fast and nice staff.

Great place to eat. The prices are a little expensive for my budget and the space was quite cold, a few well placed heaters would have been good. I had the soup of the day, which was delicious. There were 7 of us in our party and everyone enjoyed their food. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

After visiting the Bristol Christmas Market (VERY disappointing), we wandered along to Mud Dock Cafe because we wanted to see the harbour/dock area and the cafe is dog friendly. The cafe is in a great location overlooking the river, situated above a bike shop. It certainly has a bike theme running throughout, with bicycle parts making up some of the tables and hanging from the ceiling. The food was okay - my wife enjoyed the hot salmon focaccia but I found the chicken shawarma a bit on the dry and salty side. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was good. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Tuve una experiencia gastronómica realmente encantadora aquí hoy. Vinimos a desayunar. El desayuno completo fue una delicia absoluta. Cada parte estaba deliciosa y cocinada con amor. Los frijoles caseros hicieron un cambio encantador a la norma. Las salchichas estaban deliciosas. La comida se servía caliente y el café era el mejor que he tenido en mucho tiempo. Para colmo el personal era tan encantador muy muy servicial con preguntas dietéticas. Ayudaron a crear un ambiente fabuloso que se sintió muy relajado. Verdaderamente me alegró el día esta mañana visitando el café Muelle de Lodo. Gracias.

Really great service, my wife is Gluten free, they made sure the ingredients were completely separate and she was served by a manager .. great tasting food.. we were looking for all day breakfast place.. and this was the spot to go to ..highly recommended

We were there on a Sunday, the table for 4 people was very tiny. It was hard to fit in. The food is ok, but not amazing. The burger of the day, BBQ Pulled pork was not tasty. Sauce too sweet. The crumble for dessert had good taste but was cold. Personally, I would prefer warm. Plus, you can park next to the restaurant in a paid parking lot. Friendly service.

Mientras nos alojamos en Bristol estábamos buscando un café que acepta perros, esto surgió en mi búsqueda y no podríamos haber encontrado un lugar mejor. Desde el momento en que llegamos todo el personal era tan amable y hizo tanto alboroto sobre nuestro perro. La comida y el café eran simplemente delicioso y esperamos volver antes de salir de Bristol. Fue genial ver un edificio tan encantador hecho en un lugar tan grande 😊

Had lunch here on Sunday Superb, varied menu and a great atmosphere. Mud Dock has been a landmark for many years and they're still at the top of their game.

We came here for brunch with friends which is hidden above a bike shop. The menu was great for a group of a combi diet of friends I.e vegans and everything eaters . The place itself was pretty awesome with a large round window dominating one side which looked like the set from Wednesday. We were greeted warmly and between us and mushrooms on foccaia, eggs royal and kedgeree. The coffees were great and the bellini. The food itself was fresh and tasty . I personally had the kedgeree it was okay just not the strongest of flavours and the rice was microwave rice in texture? My partner and I finished with the apple crumble cake which was unfortunately dry. The service was very friendly however an incident made them naturally flappy. Overall a nice place to eat away from the hustle and bustle I just might need to try something else to form a full opinion.

We had brunch here and the food was almost stone cold. The coffee was poor and the venue was freezing cold! We’re lucky we had scarves.

Tried to visit here for breakfast around 1000, told we had to wait until 1130 as we did not have a reservation. It is a cafe in name only - it’s a restaurant and the staff were indifferent to the fact I wasn’t aware a reservation was necessary. In my view, a cafe should accept walk-ins. If you require a reservation, they should put a sign at the bottom of the metal access steps so people are aware before they walk up there and try to get a table. Food appears overpriced and pretentious. If you want a decent breakfast, quickly and at a reasonable price, head to Wetherspoons V-Shed on the dock only a couple of minutes walk away, you will be much more satisfied. I should have gone there first rather than wasting my time walking up here.

Probably one of the best English breakfasts I have had in Bristol! You could tell it was really good produce 😋 friends also enjoyed their pancakes and shakshuka, but one a lil underwhelmed by the avocado eggs on toast - all in all a good one though and will certainly come back!

Lunch had finished early because of a later wedding, but had a nice piece of carrot cake and a bottle of elderflower pressé. Service friendly. Trendy place above big bike shop. Overlooking harbour with a terrace.

Excellent food, fast and friendly service, and a great atmosphere.

Have visited a few times whilst having a break in Bristol, so when looking for somewhere to go for a solo lunch, it felt comfortable and familiar to head here. I was lucky to get one of the seats on the terrace as was very busy, which is lovely to see. Got there at 12.30, so had missed breakfast — which was a shame as was craving eggs and avo, but meant got to try something else. So has the cheese board for one, was delicious and surprised at the price to have 4 different cheeses. Only constructive comment, pint of coke at £4.75 seemed slightly expensive and I had no butter on my plate, which I didn’t ask for as just presumed how it came, until next table commented that they had an uneven amount for 2 people. I didn’t get the waitresses name unfortunately, as would have liked to mention her and she was so lovely and made me feel welcomed and comfortable, considering I was on my own

We had our daughters wedding at Mud Dock on Saturday 7th September 2024 and what a day! Victoria and the team could not have given us a better day. They laid out the tables exactly to my daughter's vision and then some! They even added extra bits around the room to make it even more special. Victoria made sure the whole day ran smoothly and took care of everything. The whole team were amazing! If you are looking for something a bit different, but with an intimate atmosphere with the best service and attention to detail please give Mud Dock a call. The bride and groom even rexwives a personalised gift from the team! Absolutely amazing! Our guests were all so impressed with everything and so were we! If the happy couple leave their wedding saying rhat it was perfect and they wouldn't have changed a thing,what more could a parent want? Lovely hungover breakfast here. I recommend sitting outside for the view and atmosphere. The staff are great, really friendly and on the ball. Food is decent. Love a place that had black pudding and beautifully seasoned tomatoes. One star lost due to chewy bacon. Overall a great option. Would come back for sure :)

Haven't tried any food here but have stopped for a bloody Mary a couple of times. Very good for the price, just £6.50, might be the cheapest in Bristol actually, and never disappoints!

My niece and her partner got married at Mud Dock on Saturday, the service was attentive, the food very good, especially the gravlax salmon, hand cut, so succulent, the roast chicken so juicey, the salads, the lemon tart one of the best ever. The venue worked perfectly and we seemlesy ran from day to night. Thank you for making the day for Becca and Jamie so special. X

Thank you so much for being so understanding when my daughter didn't want the food due to her sensory issues and accommodating different options, whilst maintaining a super friendly service! Booked a table for breakfast on Friday which turned out to be a good idea as the place filled up quickly by around 10.30. From the initial greeting and seating onwards the services was attentive and very good. The menu has diverse options and was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Utterly fantastic breakfast. The staff are really welcoming when you come in and the food is great, everything tastes high quality and fresh. The restaurant is comfortable and well designed. Wish we loved closer to be able to visit more regularly

We found Mud dock by accident. What a find. Great place, we had the Mud dock breakfast which was delicious. Pot of tea lovely treat. They spoiled our doggies with their own complimentary refilled water bowl and biscuits. Lovely staff, great view of the dockside, highly recommended. Xx

Really nice bar to sit, relax and catch up with friends or family. Located on the water front you get a great view of the Matthew, mshed and the docks in general. Staff are so polite, they were all very welcoming and all happy to help. Only visited for a drink so can't comment on food but some dishes that we saw looked good.

Might be one of the best plates I've ever had. Added avocado to the Vegan Breakfast and was sat very content afterwards!

We went for lunch here. The Cafe is done in a Cycling/Tour de France style. Not to my personal taste but was a really lovely vibe and setting so full marks. Service was fantastic, the staff were pleasant and attentive. Drinks were good. The food.... My Wife really enjoyed her open sandwich which was a good size. I had a Bean Cassoulet and it absolutely blew me away. The quality and flavour was outstanding. Proper comfort food done on a higher level. Genuinely one of the best things I have eaten at any restaurant in a long time. You could only identify what I had eaten based on the type of bowl as there wasn't a drop left. I had a berry pudding for dessert which was spot on too. Based on this I have to recommend this place if you are in Bristol.

My parents’ favourite restaurant in Bristol, my whole family loves their burgers with crispy chips, definitely recommend. Visited for my brother’s pre-grad lunch and had a great time. I had the fish pasta which was pretty good too, nice sauce and very filling.

Stopped here for some food with friends and colleagues. The sun was shining and we had a table overlooking the harbour from under the shade of a parasol. The food was excellent, as was the service and staff. There was a broad selection of food and drinks for various dietary requirements too. One of the most pleasant afternoons in a long while.
