Excellent food however a disappointing service. Multiple staff were available however lacked attention to detail. Our water jug would remain empty unless prompt for more water, our cutlery were casually placed by the younger waiter. Forgotten orders. During our entire 3 course meal, no one cares to take away the empty drink glasses or ask whether we would like any more drinks. In general, 3/5 for service and 5/5 for food. The food was impeccable, well-presented and en point. The 'manager' walked past our table a few times, looking over the table, but didn't notice empty drink glasses, empty water jug etc - quite disappointed at the standards of services for such a lovely venue.

My girlfriend and I went to eat here after finishing a day in plymouth while on holiday in Devon and we picked this resturaunt purely because we wanted steak but we were absolutely amazed with the experience in the Tiverton steakhouse. It's a small resturaunt with a lovely style perfect for a date night like ours. We ordered our food (a 10oz fillet steak for my girlfriend and a 20oz tomahawk steak for myself with satueed potatoes and assordted veg for both) and after holding on to our menus for dessert thinking, we were a little confused why the server didn't ask for our steak preferences until we double checked the menu and saw the resturaunts amazing idea. The steak is brought to you on some black hotplate thingies as seen in my picture with the entire idea being that you can cook each bit of meat that you cut to your preferences by simply holding the cut to the plate so it cooks to your preference allowing you to change how you want your steak mid meal. This may be a normal idea for people who do more resturaunt dining but for us this was a game changer. Being able to place my meat on the empty plate provided to dip the potatoes in the juices and then cook it some more after I was satisfied was fantastic. The meat was exquisite and tasted beautiful no matter the cook level with my girlfriend excitedly saying it was so soft and tender she could probably cut her steak with a spoon. To finish my girlfriend had some homemade apple pie and I had a dessert of chocolate mousse with a citrus filling topped with (I think) milk chocolate and then 2 dark chocolate wafers stuck into the top which we both agreed were lovely. Overall this was an amazing dining experience and we genuinely wish we had a place similar to this closer to home but for now we'll just need to find more excuses to go down to Devon. Thank you to the server whose name we unfortunately did not catch and the cook Andy for helping to make our last day such a fantastic one!

We can recommend going to Knightor for many reasons but especially the wine tasting we along with two friends had an amazing time and learnt a lot about wines and the wine making process, The wine of course is excellent but the day was made even better by our host Wayne whose knowledge of wine is excellent but more than that he has a fantastic way of explaining things, he is funny and genuinely a nice chap. If you haven’t tried Knightor for wine tasting then booking a slot is a must and ask for Wayne

The location is superb and the serving staff were courteous if a little inexperienced. However I was very disappointed with my lunch which had as part of the starter watercress. This was served up to me with yellowing leaves. I fedback my observation but there was no apology Main dish of smashed peas, gnocci(which was over cooked and hard) and feta was mediocre. Keep yourexpectations low....

We found ourselves in Painswick on Sunday lunchtime and were lucky enough to get the only remaining table at this beautiful and spotlessly clean restaurant opposite the place we had parked our car. The welcome was warm, service efficient and the restaurant and facilities were spotlessly clean. The chef even visited every table to check everyone was enjoying the food he had lovingly prepared for them. We loved our roast beef Sunday Lunch with plenty of beautifully cooked vegetables and lots of gravy. We can’t wait to return. Oh yes and make sure you visit the facilities ( a lovely, unusual and historic surprise awaits you!) A delightful visit! Thank you so much! PS. The coffee was fabulous too!

My goodness! What a delightful meal we had here last night. We live nearby and had guests staying with us and we were having difficulty finding a restaurant open for dinner on a Tuesday evening in Winter, until we remembered this charming hotel. From the kind welcome, the drinks, menu reading and warming fire in the lounge, followed by the classic, simply ambiance of the restaurant, the friendly and efficient staff to the truly wonderful food, the whole experience was faultless. We will be back, regularly. Highly, highly recommended.

Visited for Sunday lunch on a wet September day, sitting inside the table was great, room light and airy. We all had the Sirloin roast which was super, thick cut with a tasty gravy made from the black treacle used to baste the joint, delish!! Fresh vegetables perfectly cooked. Portion sizes were good but not so much you can’t see what is on the plate! All 3 desserts went down well too. Would certainly go back. We didn’t take our dog but there was one in the corner table so we might next time.

Nice Sunday lunch but very limited dessert choice, the only dessert available was cherry Eaton mess or ice cream everything else had run out. I liked the sound of cherry Eaton mess which I ordered but when it was delivered it was strawberry, no sign of cherries so I sent it back. Main course was nice though.
