We can recommend going to Knightor for many reasons but especially the wine tasting we along with two friends had an amazing time and learnt a lot about wines and the wine making process, The wine of course is excellent but the day was made even better by our host Wayne whose knowledge of wine is excellent but more than that he has a fantastic way of explaining things, he is funny and genuinely a nice chap. If you haven’t tried Knightor for wine tasting then booking a slot is a must and ask for Wayne

My wife and I attended the wine tasting led by Wayne at Knightor winery today followed with Sunday lunch. Really enjoyable and Wayne did a great job describing each wine. We obviously took away a few bottles to remind of a lovely visit. After the tour we had Sunday lunch at the winery and it was delicious. Could not find a fault and will go again.

Went for a wine tasting and had a lovely experience with a lovely young man called Ben, it was very interesting learning about the different wine and the hard work that went into them all, best vermouth I have ever tasted, only down side was that they weren't serving food on that particular day.

I went for a cocktail experience evening with my friend for her birthday we was greeted by the very friendly Sophie with a starting cocktail, we then had an amazing and helpful talk from Halla who walked us through all the vermouth. We was able to creat our own vermouth including corking and waxing our bottles. Overall the experience was nothing but lovely with very happy and helpful staff, definitely will be back.

Wow! Tucked away in the Cornish countryside this is a little gem! Sophie sorted a private event for us as their usual Friday night slot had been allocated to their Ocktoberfest. Through the booking and evening, Sophie couldn’t have been more helpful. From the welcome cocktail made by Halla through tasting vermouths, creating our own and finishing with corking and wax sealing our bottles of vermouth all 3 generations of our family had fun. Great atmosphere in their wine barn, helped along with further cocktails. A taxi back to base was essential! Thoroughly recommend for a different evening out whilst on holiday. We popped back a day later to buy some of their wines too!

We just got married at Knightor... The team were absolutely amazing from the day of our original venue tour up to the wedding day itself. We were assigned a Wedding Coordinator (Elena) who was on hand to answer any questions we had during the planning process and she made everything totally stress free! She was so professional and more than happy to help, even when I was asking what seemed like a silly question. Our wedding day ran so smoothly, nothing went wrong and Elena made sure every aspect of the day was exactly how we wanted it. From me and the bridesmaids getting ready, Elena checked in with us regularly to see if we needed anything, to the ceremony, she made sure I was comfortable and knew exactly what was happening and when so the nerves weren't any more than they needed to be! Elena also took my vision for our table decorations and made it into a reality that far exceeded my expectations. The whole team at Knightor were amazing and made our day feel so special! I wish we could do it all over again tomorrow. Thank you!

We had an amazing time with Sophie and Halla during the Cornish Cocktail experience. Warmly welcomed, swiftly given our first drink and the whole evening was relaxed and enjoyable in a beautifully decorated rustic setting. Drinks kept coming to accompany the nibbles on our table, and both ladies were more than happy to answer any questions about the various vermouth tasters we had along the way! Left with our own bottle of hand crafted vermouth, the corking and waxing parts were great fun also. You don’t want to drive to this experience in order to make the most of it, we will be planning ahead next time! The £35 price point really is too low for such an immersive and enjoyable evening, I’d recommend it to anybody in a heartbeat! Thank you again Sophie and Halla for such a great experience, you made our time across the Tamar fab!

Lovely spot for Sunday lunch. An old converted barn within a winery. Food was lovely and service from the young team, excellent. Could do with a little more atmosphere in the barn but I think it's used for weddings mainly, so a bit of a blank canvas. Don't let this put you off though!

The venue had been let down by their outside caterers but they still managed to deliver delicious crab and lobster dishes. The service was so friendly and the wine was amazing. We recently attended a great evening at the winery. The Knightor team made the experience fun and memorable, beginning with great insight about the history and process of making vermouth. They then helped us make our own unique bottle of vermouth using a vast range of amazing botanicals. Great cocktails enjoyed throughout the night, made better by recipe cards to take home after the event. Would highly recommend the evening.

We did the wine tasting followed by the Sunday lunch in November 2022. We have drunk their wines many times and to learn about the grapes and the method was very interesting. Their sparkling wines rival a good champagne ( In my opinion they are better than many). The food was delicious and plentiful. You will not leave here hungry. The waiting staff were all very polite and friendly. It is a super place for a relaxing lunch.

Loved this place! Relaxing atmosphere, very airy, great design so even without tasting the food everything looked good! We each had roast beef and enjoyed every bit of it. We didn't have starters but enjoyed the amuse bouche. We left room...just for dessert. The cheese board was huge and had both white and red grapes, the chutney was fig and delicious! A nice variety of cheeses. The lemon meringue has a lemon part that wasn't too sweet. The sorbet ice-creams were tasty and although not to my taste the apple crumble was very much enjoyed by the person who chose it! After the meal we realised we had missed the shop but we really wanted to buy a bottle or two of the very delicious white carpe diem wine. We called into the shop only to be told we could still buy something! Very happy! A very enjoyable afternoon with very tasty wine to take home too!

We visited on Sunday for the wine tour and tasting, followed by Sunday lunch. Got nothing but good comments to make, from the informative tour to excellent wines to taste. Not you everyday wines, completely different and really refreshing change. The food was also very good, generous size starters especially the katsu chicken, the sirloin beef roast was excellent, the pork was also good though we both agreed the beef was the better option. Excellent service by our waitress, we will definitely return!! If we had any advice it would probably be that unless you are really interested in the wine production side of things, then just the wine tasting for 4 drinks for £10 is probably a better option than £20 each for tour and tasting. But we have no complaints at all. Thank you knightor.

Loads of fun, actually learnt a lot more about wine than we thought we would and the wine was fantastic. Would definitely recommend if you’re into your wines, English wine is the new thing! We did also have a Sunday lunch at the restaurant, the food was nice, service is great. Hubby is coeliac and the menu wasn’t great for him unfortunately, but the staff talked him through the menu and knew what they talking about regarding allergens etc - so he had a beef roast dinner, but without the Yorkshire pudding. I was visiting friends in St Austell recently and we wanted to eat at Knightor. There was a wedding on the Saturday, but we managed to get a late table for lunch on the Sunday - the late timing was because it was Father's Day, and it was completely our fault for booking so late.We had a lovely walk to the winery and worked up an appetite. Having tried their wine at a different restaurant on a previous visit to Cornwall, I was looking forward to both the wine and food.We were seated quickly in the downstairs area. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something strange about the set-up, it didn't really seem like a restaurant, however the 3 tables that were there were well spaced out - so not vying for space with others. We were brought menus and water promptly, but it then took a while for someone to get back and order. As there were only three choices per course available, not sure why the staff thought we would take so long to decide.Once someone came to take the order, they were initially only going to take the drinks order, but we asked them to take food as well. Order placed, cuvée arrived quickly, and we poured and toasted. Unsurprisingly, another great example of Knightor's viniculture prowess. One of the waiting staff came back to say that the pork shoulder two of us had ordered from the menu was no longer available, but there was a pork belly available. No problem, either would be good. The starters came quickly, I had beef cheeks with beetroot, and the starter was great, leaving me looking forward even more to the main course.Once the mains arrived sadly everything went wrong. One friend and I had decided to split our beef and pork mains because we wanted to try both. I had the pork, and gave none to my friend - not because I am greedy, but because it was almost inedible. I could barely cut through the meat, and had to dissect it by layers rather than cut through. The meat was tough as old boots, and there was an unappetising, thick layer of fat. I think because there was a last minute change of pork cut, they had tried to cook it quickly in a pan, so the fat wasn't even vaguely cooked, and the meat was tough - pork belly needs a slow cook, not a flash fry. My friend did share a piece of his 'beef' with me, mainly because he wanted me to try and help him identify what the meat was. he had asked for a steak knife because a regular knife wouldn't cut through it, however even with a steak knife he struggled. The meat was not only tough,it did not taste like beef at all, there was something really strange about it, almost as if it was buffalo cooked too quickly. The veggies were plentiful, although some were burned a bit. When the table was cleared, I had barely touched the pork on my plate as it was inedible. When I worked in hospitality, if I saw a plate of untouched food, I would always ask the customer why, yet the plate was cleared away without question, and having a very British moment, no-one wanted to say anything about the standard of the food. My friend had wrapped his uneaten meat in a paper napkin and disposed of it to avoid having to complain. One friend had ordered peach cobbler for dessert, and it was essentially no more than a piece of peach, a dry piece of sponge cake and some ice-cream, certainly not a baked dessert which is what we were expecting. So all in all a big disappointment. I fully understand that it was Father's Day and there had probably been a large number of customers before us, however, if you can't cater for more, don't take the booking - it really felt like we had been served food put together at the last minute, rather than the quality food I was expecting. Would still drink their wine, but would avoid going back to eat.

My daughter and now son-in-law booked Knightor for their early May wedding after visiting several other potential venues in the area. It seemed to offer excellent value for money and perfect for 60 guests plus more evening guests. They both immediately really liked it - the barn/restaurant, the farmhouse which was available for all close family to stay for two nights, the ‘arbor’ by the large pond where the ceremony took place, the enclosed courtyard and climbing frame/slide for young children. The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble but at the same they time kept a low profile though were always on hand. A special thanks to Jess, the wedding coordinator, who did a superb job and everything went seamlessly. Several people commented on what a great venue it was. Dirty table and water jug, sticky cutlery, expensive wine not even poured into glass just bottle plonked on table, no salt and pepper on table had to get it myself from an empty table, staff training certainly required. Food was appalling, fish cake starter bland and burnt, pink roast beef freezing old apparently that's how chef does it!! edible hard potatoes so so vegetables, and to finish dried brownie.. was offered a cup of tea or coffee as compensation for my uneaten meal and was asked "moving on" what changes could they make! We had the soup and salmon to start, then a roast dinner of pork and beef and two desserts. The food was so good and I can not make any complaints. The only fault I had was the horseradish wasn’t as I expected and I wasn’t overly keen on the creamed style compared to the more traditional texture you have with beef. Like Milly of Yorkshire I also visited yesterday. Wet day so no walk around vinyard. Thought the price of the ploughman's was to include wine, but no. It consisted of tiny thin slice of cheese, (2 slices for vegetarians) lol. I very small slice of ham. Small portion lettuce leaves, half stick of dark green celery, not a tomato or pickle in site. For 4 people there was a 2 inch pot of red cabbage, 2 inch carrots x 4, hilarious. The 4 people next to us had no pot of pickle and after requesting 4 times the waitress said " the chef says that all the pickle was divided equally and there was none left". No wine, just jugs of water and a slice of bread and butter. The wine tasting before the snack was an inch of wine in a very small glass. One sparkling, one rose, one sweet. The whole tasting amounted to half a glass. The cost of this excuse for a ploughman's ws £15 including a talk on winemaking in a freezing barn. Oh and when we were all seated waiting for the "meal" there was an almighty crash, apparently all the food was on a dumb waiter which collapsed. Hilarious. Our very own "Faulty Towers" here in Cornwall. Would i recommend this place? Only if the chef was trained in how to present a decent ploughman's and value for money.

A small concern offering a number of wines. Perhaps it was because it was a wet day but there was very little to look at. No tour of the vineyard just standing in the processing shed looking at large tanks. The information about the process was interesting but there were very few visual aids and it was cold. After we tasted a number of the wines which were ok but over priced but I expect that is because the turnover is small. We had booked a ploughman's lunch and while the food was in the main of a good quality it was not the spread you would get in a local pub. One slice of slab cheese and a piece of ham and salad. Pickles in shared dishes and a chunk of bread. I had expected a selection of cheeses for the price we paid. There was no sweet and if you wanted a coffee you had to buy it from the bar. I don't think I would recommend this as an enjoyable visit.

Fantastic. We had a 3 course lunch which was delicious and then went on the tour of the winery. This was extremely interesting and the owner was both knowledgable and passionate about making wines. The staff throughout our visit were absolutely wonderful. You must visit..... The wine tasting also scored well (hic)

Went to the feast night on a Friday. Seating was in the courtyard and it is advisable to take layer with you though they happily provided blankets. The 3 course meal was generous and they happily catered for vegetarians and vegans. We were alao lucky in having a live concert in the background from The Eden Project Summer Sessions.

A hidden little treasure, Knightor Winery treated us to a pretty lovely afternoon wine tour (Thursday guided tour, prebooked via website), with great service, beautiful grounds and a good selection of drinks to try. Getting there isn’t the easiest unless you’re driving or going by taxi, which is what we did. Worth noting that there hardly get any phone signal so you’ll need to pre-book your return taxi to be safe. The grounds were lovely, we got there early so sat at one of the garden tables and had tea and scones – lucked out with some delightful sunshine! We were served by a lovley lady, who answered all of our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The wine tour was led by their young winemaker, who guided us through the vineyard, the workshop, part of the grounds and back to the main house where the tasting took place. He patiently answered questions and calmly dealt with the horde of screaming, ill-behaved toddlers some people thought appropriate to bring on the tour. The tasting offered 3-4 glasses of different wines they produced, alongside explanations from the team and pairing recommendations. We didn’t stay for dinner, as we had other plans, but the fish smell from the kitchen was delightful. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back for a meal if the opportunity came up.

We decided to book in for the Sunday lunch before talking the Wine Tour, I started with Hogs Pudding & Runny Egg on Rye & Mustard Seed Toast, followed by Mr Bax's Pork Shoulder with Crackling and Apple Stuffing, and finished with a Gin & Lemon Sorbets -and all for £20. We all agreed that we had one of the best Sunday lunches ever. Then it was the Wine Tour - very interesting and taken by one of the two Winery Tasters. Finally, it was a Wine Tasting - I must say I really enjoy English wines which have improved enormously. Throughout the visit, the Staff were exceptionally courteous and attentive.

We went as a group of four for a wine tour and cream tea. The wine tour was very informative and obviously very knowledgable in this area. Best of all enjoyed the tasting and could not resist buying a vintage sparkling wine too! The cream tea was probably the best I've ever tasted. Can't wait to return, very tempted to try an evening meal.

We were guests here at a family wedding reception in May. Dispite the weather, we had a warm welcome from the staff who served drinks and canapés (mini roast beef and Yorkshire pudding bites, mini fillet pork loin in cider & honey glaze, mini fish and chips). Upstairs we found our seats and a beautifully laid out table. The food was excellent as was the service. The night continued downstairs with a live band and small dance floor and bar area. Paella was cooked and served outside in the evening. Highly recommend.

Cathryn and the team at Knightor really made our special day even more special! The venue is absolutely stunning and Cathryn and all the staff have been fantastic throughout planning and the big day!The food was excellent, as told by every one of our guests, and were very accommodating to my vegan diet (in fact the vegan cheesy leek tarts were a hit for all the carnivores as well!!) Could not have asked for a more perfect experience and we will be forever grateful for the hospitality and and warmness we received at Knightor :)

We had our wedding at Knightor on Saturday 18th February 2017 and had an amazing day. I want to write a detailed review to give prospective couples a good insight as to what this place is about.Pre Wedding - the venue speaks for itself, a beautiful barn setting which isn't the answer if you like the glitz of a modern hotel. The rural setting was all we wanted but still had to be 'wow'ed by the overall package. We met Cathryn as one of the wedding planners and immediately noted her enthusiasm for her job and the want to make our day as special as it could be. Meetings were fairly regular through the planning process and email communication was also answered swiftly. Every time, nothing was too much trouble.Decorating Venue - lucky for us and getting married out of season we were able to take our time and decorate the venue through the Friday and made it look beautiful, exactly what the bride envisaged! Cathryn and her team were on hand to lend their experience and their step ladder!! It really is a blank canvas and the Knightor team seemed happy and open to most ideas on how to dress it up. I am not sure how stressful it would have been if there had been a function on the Friday and we were only able to get into the venue on the Saturday morning to decorate. Ceremony - the bridal team arrived early to get ready in the house at Knightor (separate review later) and the Best Man and I arrived slightly later and prepared using the downstairs of the property. We still kept to tradition and didn't see each other so it worked perfectly for us and there wasn't a need for transport to the venue (extra cost). Again, Cathryn and her team were on site early and had everything in hand with the venue undergoing a good clean. Cathryn managed proceedings to keep everything on time for the 13.00 hours ceremony and at one point even had to get stern with some stubborn family members to keep things ticking along (a management quality that can be difficult to possess). The ceremony was stunning (I am biased) but every guest noted how personal it was which is exactly what we wanted.Wedding breakfast - all food was pre-ordered after giving our guests 2 options for each course so food was served without having to ask who ordered what. The food was cooked well and I believe everybody enjoyed it. I had the cod dish for main and the chef cooked the fish beautifully. Some guests mentioned that they felt there was a bit of a delay between courses but it didn't affect me. The liver parfait and custard brûlée must also get a mention as beautiful dishes.Wine - being a winery you would imagine that this would be a strong point for them..........it was. We chose a white and a red for the tables and the guests were more than delighted with their servings!! The white - carpe diem a crisp, dry, fruity number at a really good price. The red - a Malbec was a great glass of red and believe me I have sampled many Malbec's!!Evening Reception - approx 120 guests. The 2 floors makes Knightor a great choice with the music and bar on the lower floor and a quieter, seating area upstairs the perfect place to catch up with family/friends without having to shout. Finishing the festivities at 01.00 hours seemed to be the perfect time and the staff even at this time were friendly.Accommodation - we hired the house for 1 night which has 4 double rooms and 2 twin rooms. It is on a b&b basis. A perfectly comfortable house and being able to be in bed in 2 minutes after leaving the venue is a no brainer! Breakfast at 10.00 so plenty of time for a bit of a lie in, and to get rid of the thick head. Booking the house comes with breakfast for 12 but Knightor will happily cater for more with prior booking and at a very reasonable price. A small continental section with tea, coffee and juices to start followed by a full English that hit the spot after a night of festivities. Conclusion - Knightor as a venue was perfect for us, the rural barn setting just sits with what we love. However, we wouldn't of hesitated going elsewhere if we felt they couldn't deliver the full package but they gave us confidence that this wouldn't be the case and boy did they deliver. We would like to offer our thanks again to Cathryn and every member of staff that had any input into making our day so amazing with a special mention also to Dee. I guess the biggest thanks must go to whoever sorted the weather for us, stunning sunshine with double figured temperatures in the middle of February, amazing!!

We went to Knightor Winery for our annual Christmas meal with disco and I have to thank Knightor's amazing staff and DJ for an excellent evening. Everyone in our party of 27 was unanimous in saying how much they enjoyed the food and the evening in general. Reasonably priced with an option for a 2 or 3 course meal, it was very competitive with other local venues The food was fabulous, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us all to ensure the evening was a success with quick, efficient and helpful service. Although a 'set menu' for the evening, it was anything but standard fayre. The main courses in particular were delicious, e.g. a beautifully tender braised beef that had a subtle 'Christmas spice' flavour. The other mains which included goose or turkey, hake or vegetarian pumpkin and gouda puff bake, were equally well received and eaten with relish. The accompanying, locally sourced vegetables were perfectly cooked, with a good variety and plentiful; we simply couldn't eat them all, even though we tried! Puddings were also delicious, especially the chocolate brownie - and I am a bit of an expert on these - it rates up there with the best. A small problem with the poached pears was quickly and pleasantly resolved leaving everyone very satisfied and full to bursting. Once we had eaten all the food (I don’t think there were many plates with much left on them) we went downstairs dancing the rest of the evening away to some cracking music that hit just the right note for all us ‘oldies’! We do hope they are going to do it again next year as lots of our group have already asked for a return visit for our Christmas venue.

We went for Sunday lunch and the meal was excellent. Friends had traditional roast, beerf or pork, while I had the vegetarian choice of Pumpkin strudel with walnuts, which was delicious. Also a very good choice of fresh vegetables. We followed with scoops of rapsberry and elderflower sorbet which was equally delicious. The friend with us was interested in the facilities for weddings, and our waitress, who was very helpful, gave us lots of details including an informtion pack. After the meal she showed us around the outside areas and the house which is available to hire for B&B and wedding parties. There are lots of different areas and possibilities to create a very personal wedding. The insides of the barns are big airy spaces that can be turned into a lovely wedding venue. The outside areas were a bit muddy when we were there, but it was November, and would look different on a sunny day. The accommodation at the house is a little tired but we were told that some refurbishment is planned. We did not do a tour of the winery, but were told this can also be aranged for wedding guests if they are interested.

Went here with my children and grandchildren to celebrate my birthday, for lunch on Sunday. Very disappointed, the meat was very tough, and spoilt our meal, did not want to spoil it more by making a complaint in the middle of the meal, but mentioned it to the waitress when paying the bill. Have been before, and it was good, but something has changed, do NOT expect to be served meat like shoe leather. Can't recommend.

I sampled one of Knightor's wines on holiday in Cornwall last year and decided to treat myself to a couple of bottles when I returned this year. Finding the Winery was fine but three visiting coaches blocked entrance to the car park so I very nearly turned away empty handed. I managed to park outside the venue but was beginning to wonder whether it was worth the bother. The staff on hand weren't particularly quick to help me in finding what I was looking for. I appreciate that I probably wasn't going to spend as much as the three coach parties but how did the staff not know I was going to order a few cases rather than a few bottles!

We attended a Feast evening here which showcased Fowey Valley cider and products. The atmosphere of the place is lovely and being able to sit outside for cocktails and canapés was really nice. Highlights of the meals were belly pork with the crispiest skin and mini toffee apples with cider granita, loved it. However star of the night for me was the best bread I've ever tasted, sourdough and focaccia, both made on the premises. OMG, delicious, and paired with the Fowey Valley olive oil, beyond wonderful.Constructive feedback would be that the dining room has no rugs, carpets or curtains so sound bounces around. It was very hard to chat with music playing on the sound system, it drowned out conversation. Also the huge wine rack was empty bar 6 bottles! I think in a vineyard the wine rack should be full, even with fake/empty bottles if there is a fear of theft, it looks better. Also the staff looked very young and frankly terrified in some instances. Wanted to hug them! All in all a good evening though.

We had our wedding at Knightor on the 23rd July and could not fault a single thing. Cathryn was amazing throughout the months leading to the wedding as well as on the day, the day ran smoothly and was perfectly organised. We luckily got a nice day meaning we could get married outside and it was beautiful. The food was delicious and plenty of it! Many of our guests commented on how good the food was. All the staff were fantastic and worked really hard! We would like to say a big thank you to everyone especially Cathryn who was unintrusive on the day and stayed in the background to ensure everything went perfectly. I will definitely be returning for food and recommending this venue to everyone.

We got married at Knightor on 16th July and it was a gorgeous sunny day - very lucky for Cornwall! Cathryn and her team were amazing; they ensured the whole day ran like clockwork and lots of our guests commented on how helpful and friendly they were. The food was fantastic and the portion sizes were huge - very important when feeding wedding guests! Cathryn was great throughout the whole planning process and on the morning of the wedding she was there to help the groom and his team get the place looking beautiful. She also did a wonderful job (with her team) of setting the restaurant up for the wedding breakfast with all our decorations, and it was really thoughtful to have us both come and see the room before all the guests came in to eat. Overall, the day was perfect and we couldn't have been happier with the venue we chose. Oh and the wine got lots of compliments too! Thank you, Knightor team! Mr and Mrs Chapman xx

So today was basically a washout in Cornwall. As usual we have been sampling our favourite wines at the excellent BinTwo in Padstow and that gave us the idea to actually visit the vineyard of Knightor Wines near St Austell and the Eden Project. What can I say, the food was superb. We both had a selection of the tapas style plates. Crayfish soup, sourdough bread with ham and cheese, falafel. The list goes on. It was outstanding. Then as a bonus, a banana cake with local rum sauce and a sticky chocolate pud with salted caramel ice cream. All served by a lovely waitress. Of course we sampled the outstanding wines as well. Basically who cares about the rain when you have a great lunch like this.

Disappointing stay We stayed in Room Eight & we booked a double room. The room was basement level and was tiny with low ceilings, smelled heavily of chemicals and later mold. We had to keep the windows open but unfortunately the one small window opened out onto a busy road. The road was meters away from the window and the cars go fast, so it was really noisy day and time The bath was narrow and not full length and weirdly sticky. Really disappointed with our stay as we'd read such lovely reviews and the pictures (which are of different rooms to ours) looked so nice .

This is a lovely cosy restaurant with a great atmosphere and owners who care about what they do. I was celebrating my 60th birthday and had scallops to start followed by half a lobster, my husband had pork bites and hake. The presentation was lovely and food cooked to perfection. The wine choice is very good and very reasonably priced. For pudding we shared a Cornish cheese board and husband had a port whilst I had an espresso martini. The night was really enjoyable and we left very happy. This is a gem of a place in St Merryn and I would urge you to try for yourselves.
