Kingswood Bar & Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We enjoyed a birthday lunch at the Kingswood last Saturday, which was a very pleasant experience, each of our party went for very different meal choices, but all the food was served to the table, quickly, piping hot, and was quite quite delicious. We booked a late lunch and at the time there were few people in the restaurant but this didn't affect the atmosphere of the dining experience, we didn't feel hurried in anyway, and the serving staff were delightful. How lucky are we to live locally and have the Kingswood as our restaurant of choice.

We are down from Kent for a break and after a Google search, booked for dinner at the Kingswood. What a find, a shame we are moving on as we would definitely return. Excellent service and delicious food - personally, quite probably the best fish pie I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Stuffed with fish and prawns and topped with a lovely creamy, herby mash. My partners fish & chips were hot and crispy and the portions so generous, there was no room for a desert unfortunately (maybe if we'd skipped having a starter but they all looked so tempting and delicious too!)

We stayed for three nights and so had two dinners/three breakfasts here. What a treat! Food was excellent at every meal and, while at times staff were clearly busy, all service was extremely friendly and efficient! A really attractive venue with a comfortable atmosphere too. Even if not staying at the Kingswood I would be very happy to come back to eat there again!!

A wonderful outing for mother's day. Staff very courteous and all meals very tasty, enjoyable and full plates. And very good value This has to be one of the most enjoyable restaurants here in mid-Cornwall.

Absolutely love coming here for dinner, it’s one of my favourite restaurants! The food is always delicious and waitresses are lovely, the steaks and blue cheese sauce are incredible!

Have to say the breakfast is up there with the best I've had in a hotel. Coffee was great, the yogurt, compote and granola is as good as I do at home and the cooked breakfast was just amazing, perfect eggs. The only reason not to give 5* was that service was a bit slow, probably understaffed for a busy mother's day weekend, but really good food 👌

Visited the Kingswood, St Austell, Cornwall. Near to the Eden Project & Lost Gardens of Heligan. Really nice restaurant. Very high finish. Great drinks selection. Bar and lounge space.

Perfect for a short break. The room and restaurant meals were extremely high quality and the staff were very welcoming. Ideal if you have a car and enjoy walking or visiting Gardens in the area.

Lovely place , the rooms were very clean and stylish and the heating was lovely. The staff were really helpful and very attentive , nothing seemed a problem. The food was gorgeous from the breakfast to the dinner , definitely be back.

Very good food and service. Cocktails very enjoyable and we weren’t hurried. Fish and crab dishes were amazing and steaks very good quality. Loved the Eccles cake pudding the best! Good quality meal. Felt individual and not just more of the same.

Kingswood was a real delight for us, staff super friendly and the room was very comfortable, it has just been refurbished and looks amazing. Food was excellent on both the nights we ate in, lovely choice for breakfast just a shame that the weather was not good enough to eat in the outside courtyard which looked wonderful, perhaps, next time!

Stayed with friends on a Travel Zoo deal based on reviews on line and were not disappointed. Rooms large and well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, large bed, desk, chairs, drawers plus a wardrobe plus hanging space. Great shower and anti mist mirror and lovely decoration everywhere. Staff were all very friendly and efficient and a special well deserved mention for Amanda the Restaurant Manager who seemed to wear many hats and must be a very valued employee. Food was excellent and plentiful with lots of choices and well presented and delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone thinking of staying in the area and the bonus was a sunny day. Visited as part of a family funeral. Pre-booked for a party of 36. The staff were excellent, very efficient, very attentive and had everything under control. They took care of our needs well. A really lovely hotel and restaurant to spend a few days over my birthday weekend. The staff were so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble and the service was always with a smile.

Here for a couple of nights short break. 3rd to 5th December. Not the place you'd pick for presence or views but boy it made up for that everywhere else. Rooms are new ( 13 months old), spotless and very comfortable, with a large superking bed and nice linen. Staff are lovely. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. I'd name them but can't remember all of them...sorry, but you'll know yourselves from the dates above. The food was excellent, both at breakfast and in the evening. Portions were somewhat on the large side for us, but that might please others. Great fish curry, fish pie, tomahawk pork steak and ragu in the evening. Great avocado toast for breakfast. It's near Charlestown, Mevagissey, Eden and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

My wife and I wanted a short break away to relax before an impending operation. My wife booked The Kingswood and we could not have been happier with the choice. The room was amazing, spotlessly clean, well equipped and spacious with all the modern touches. Its the first time that my wife has gone into a hotel room and not wanted to change. She described the room as 'Wow!' Tamsin welcomed us to our stay and after unpacking we went into the bar and was then served with the most beautiful and mouthwatering cream tea which set the standard for the rest of the stay. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was incredible, no wonder the restaurant was full. Breakfast was exceptional quality and plenty to choose from. Nothing was too much trouble and the portions were extremely generous both for dinner and breakfast. All the staff were friendly and helpful and everyone had a smile on their faces even though they were rushing around due to being so busy. The Kingswood deserve to be commended for their ethos of great value for money, brilliant customer service and warm friendliness. We cannot wait to book another stay in 2024.

Good range of menu and hospitable staff

Millie and Tamsin were amazing, warm, friendly, welcoming and nothing too much trouble. The food was delicious and the room was warm, spotless and with very very comfy beds. We really enjoyed our 2 nights there, and Betty our mini jack Russell was made to feel very welcome 🤗

Had dinner here on Saturday and the place has a lot going for it. The restaurant is lovely, the food was very good, although it was just lacking the finishing touches in a few areas to make it outsanding. For instance, scallops with brown and not orange roe in the Roasted Shellfis, cold truffle fries!! The service was for the main part very accomodating and good but again just little things such as speed of service and again the final finishing touches let it down, especially considering the overall cost of a meal there. So very close to a 5 star review but just need to work on service and the little things if I am being honest which I hope will help the restaurant understand what it needs to focus on to be excellent. I will come back and enjoyed the restuarant.

Picked up an internet deal , amazing value , rooms where probably the best I have stayed in , the food was also outstanding . Well worth a visit , initially it looks like a bungalow on a car park ... But it's so much more , just around the corner there are some really amazing walks along the river . Would definitely recommend this hotel . It's also situated well for seeing Cornwell , most places are just down the road ... Can't really find a single fault with the hotel . Will definitely look into revisiting .

Really enjoyed our visit. Food was lovely. The nut roast was really good,it came with a tomato gravy which I wasn't sure about but was very nice. The mash was also delicious.

Lovely room, super comfy bed and bedding, big smart tv, new amenities, good attention to detail, superb food (some of the best I have had), and a big shout out to Hollie and Tamsyn who were absolutely lovely. A couple of things that could be added are flannels (there were only large towels), a landline in the rooms (since no phone signal there, though they are happy to let you use their landline for taxis etc), and quiet-closing doors and some carpet/rugs in the hallway outside the bedrooms to dampen the noise of people walking (though it is otherwise quiet there).

We booked this restaurant for our anniversary. We wanted a nicer place. We were on holiday. This restaurant was nice but the service from the first waitress who attended us wasn't satisfactory. When we placed our orders she asked if we wanted any other vegetables with our meal. We asked what the choice was then chose brench beans. When food arrived we were given a bowl with cabbage, peas and some green beans. We looked surprised - we were offered french beans, not a selection of greens. My husband said that I couldn't have cabbage or peas. The waitress response was that this was the way french beans come. I replied that we were not made aware of this. To which she replied that I didn't mention to her my allergies. I don't have to mention my allergy when I order straightforward food. Not food with hidden vegetables, not mentioned at any point. I would suggest to tell future customers what vegetables etc they would be actually getting. Overall the food was good. The service could be much better. An update. I received an arrogant response from the restaurant owner: "Our menu clearly states, French style peas and beans with lettuce, onions and butter. Whilst your lack of knowledge of what Peas à la français is...". As I said above, we didn't read about extra vegetables, we were offered Feench beans. Not Peas a la français. If we were offered Peas a la français, we would have asked about the details. Yet, we were offered Frech beans. When someone offers you french or Green beans but thinner in this country people expect to receive green beans, not cabbage. We were served cabbage with some beans on top! Not peas and beans with lettuce, onions and butter. Probably best to teach your waiting stuff to learn the names of the dishes. I suggest next time to read the review properly first.

What an excellent hotel and restaurant this is. We stayed with our dogs for one night prior to our holiday in Carbis Bay and it was extremely comfortable with lovely rooms and excellent food in the restaurant. We can highly recommend and will be visiting again soon.
