Excellent food, very friendly owners so a deserved 5 stars. A very small bistro so if you are a larger party make sure you book early. Not cheap but as with all things you get what you pay for.

What a unique place. It is like eating in the dining room of a house. Run by the owner and his wife. Warm and welcoming. Around 4 or 5 tables - certainly book in advance. Antonio is host and chef. The décor is Portuguese through and through. Forget about silver service, this gem of a place is all about the food and the wine. We had monkfish, scallop and prawns - presented on a hanging skewer - very dramatic! Served with chips and salad. The fish was to die for - succulent and tasty. Yes, the prawns were shell-on. (it does seem messy, but worth it!) The chips something else. I know chips are chips, but not these. Great will a little sea salt. A real tasty salad which was the best ever. Portuguese cheese and port followed - beautiful. Closed off with a real good red wine. A superb experience with stunning food (evidently Antonio catches some of the fish himself!) Would I go back - most definitely!

Came across this small restaurant on day trip to Mevagissey. Run by lovely, welcoming couple. Food is excellent, especially the seafood. Highly recommended

Absolutely excellent from start to finish. I don’t ever remember having had a better meal in my life. The ambience is great and the owners are lovely. They run the show. We had chorizo and black pudding to start which was shared. My wife had the seafood rice which is in traditional Portuguese style and she loved it. It was a big portion but she got through it. It had all sorts in it. I had the Portuguese traditional slow cooked lamb which was served with sliced baked potatoes, broccoli and carrots. All superb. I had home made lemon meringue pie for dessert and my wife had crème caramel which were perfect. We shared a carafe of white wine and a shot of excellent port at the end. Highly recommended. Not too expensive either.

Walked in and managed to get a seat - so glad we did! Spoke with the owners about one of us being gluten and dairy intolerant and they were amazing preparing our food to meet those needs. The food was delicious, we had seafood rice and also monkfish with scallops and shrimp. Food was great, atmosphere great, service great. Highly recommend. Still full up the next day.

this is our second visit to this fabulous restaurant & we were just as amazed as we were first time round ! After eating at a couple of seafood places in mevigissey then eating here you’ll understand why it is fully booked up for the next 3 weeks , luckily they could fit us in for lunch . lovely hosts & lovely setting ❤️

Fabulous evening with delicious food and great company. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Alvorada, we had the crab, seafood skewer, chicken skewer and seafood rice for mains and cheesecake and crème caramel for dessert, all washed down with a couple of bottles of Vihno Verde. Sue & Toni were perfect hosts. We loved hearing tales about the Algarve. We definitely recommend and will be back again, thank you both for a wonderful evening.

Excellent fish platter for two after wonderful sardine and crab starters.Couple who own it have been there several decades and maintained a high standard.Chef catches his fish.He comes out to chat with customers in friendly intimate surroundings with unobtrusive music in the background.His wife is efficient hostess in impressive two person operation. Full of regulars plus tourists.

Very good all white crab meat pot and Portuguese chorico and black pudding starters. For mains we had a monkfish, prawn and scallop kebab and a traditional rice dish with mussels, prawns and white fish. All very tasty with excellent ingredients but just missing the wow factor at that price point. Service was top notch!

Amazing intimate restaurant. Fantastic seafood, cooked by a chef who is also a real character! A real find - we will definitely return when next in Mevagissey but be aware - book weeks or months in advance if you wish to get in!

Absolutely love this place, we book a table every time we’re in Mevagissey and have always had an amazing time. The food is amazing and cannot be faulted, authentic and tasty! The hospitality is brilliant and always made to feel welcome and at home. 100% worth a visit when in the area, but book early because they book up weeks in advance (and for good reason)

The 2 times we went there we ate caldeirada which is a mixed fish stew. The first time it was very good but the second time it was bad. It seemed the fish used were frozen and some of the fishes used were probably of as my girlfriend got sick for a few days after. The owner is not that polite but if at least the food was always good we would make an effort.

I love this restaurant. We always go when we visit Mevagissey. The atmosphere is great and the food is wonderful. Really good wines - I like especially like the Portuguese sparkling wine. You can also buy their Piri Piri oil to take home.

Nice food and nice friendly staff. If I'm honest we were slightly disappointed with the food as we had heard so many good reviews about it. However, very enjoyable and would recommend going but booking is advisable.

I travel nearly an hour to get there and then it was closed "out of season"... I even pay for a few hours car park and was parked for 10 minutes... I am not going back an other day.... You should publish when you are closed... Not good....

We had a lovely intimate meal here right at the end of the season. They are fully booked in the evenings but we dropped in at lunchtime and felt very lucky to get a table. Our hosts were super friendly and certainly enriched our dining experience. The food was fabulous with great provenance and presented beautifully. We will certainly be coming back.

Alvorada is an absolute gem. An intimate little restaurant with only 4 tables in the home of the owners. Antonio, the chef, goes out fishing 2 or 3 times a week and cooks whatever is in season and he catches. The food is exquisite and the owners are very charismatic and have lots of stories to share. Definitely one for a special occasion - mains are around £20 and starters £8-£10. Truly special dining experience!

We were disappointed with this top price takeaway at £49 for two...the grilled sardines were good but the monkfish was unrecognisable bits in an ordinary sauce and the skinny fries were floppy and inedible. Best to wait until the restaurant is open again.

We ate here back in July - our first meal out since the easing of lockdown and what a great choice it was! Absolutely delicious food, a beautiful location and a fantastic husband and wife team who run it. We could be in Portugal! Great location right by the harbour, although this is about to change. We had lobster, caught that morning by the owner, and it was excellent. There is just the owner and his wife running this place and they are both happy to chat as well as cook and serve. The beer and wine are mostly Portuguese as well as the food.

A little treasure of a Resturant we wasn’t sure what we had booked but our fears were soon dismissed as the chef and his wife were very friendly. The food is amazing and a must visit if your anywhere near. Both me and my wife had the chicken and chorizo kebabs with salad and fries I’m not just saying this but it did feel and taste if we where in Portugal. My in laws had the fish stew which looked amazing also.

I have no idea why this place isn't number 1. wanted to visit since looking last year. on the off chance managed to get in for lunch today. we both had mussels to start. I had lobster salad and my husband had the prawns and scallops skewer. washed down with a bottle of white and to die for crusty bread to mop up the juices. the portugese gentleman/chef will share his stories with you and his wife tells you to sit back and enjoy your wine. it's not poncey high end but rustic just out of the sea as fresh as you can get food cooked practically in front of you and tastes amazing

Really lucky to get in early as the restaurant is fully booked for weeks. Hosts were great and chatty. Portuguese style food was great. Had the mixed starter and seafood kebabs. Rustic and right on quay side.Not the cheapest but a real treat and would recommend.

FINALLY got to book a table here as each time we tried they were fully booked...which is always a good sign. Fresh local produce from start through to dessert. Antonio and Sue where very welcoming in their hospitality and looked after us well. Crab and Prawn starters, 2 seafood kebabs and homemade desserts we shared.Right on the harbour where Antonio's fishing boat can be spotted where he fishes his produce himself. Anything he he doesn't catch, i.e the scallops, tells us proudly where in Cornwall he gets them from.They told us they were relocating to the other side of the harbour so I wish them luck and hope to see them again soon!

Disappointing, food overpriced. Nearly £10 for 3 scallops ! Service very poor. Waitress very brusque & rude. Sorted out cutlery behind us very noisily, would not recommend.

Excellent Portuguese cuisine in a prominent quayside setting. Not too big, not too small. Good service and Patrons interested to talk to you about their food if asked. A fish restaurant with a plain but tasty approach to fish.

This place deservedly needs booking well ahead. We had delicious crab starter prepared in brandy cream sauce which didn’t overwhelm the crab. A lovely white Portuguese wine And a bottle of Sagres beer. A main of monkfish, Local scallop and prawn kebab with perfect Portuguese chips and salad. Rounded off by a coffee could’ve been bought by roadside stand in Faro. On a sunny day in Mevagissey we We were totally transported to the Algarve But with entirely local ingredients. AVOID this Restaurant.We had 2 Crab Sandwiches for lunch from this Restaurant, & they were by far the worst sandwiches I have ever eaten.The slices of bread were very small & extremely dry, & sliced from what seemed like the tail end of an old loaf of bread,We were asked if we wanted butter on the bread, which we said yes, however there there was no sign of butter at all.The crab was tasteless, there was no seasoning & I felt that it had been pre frozen.There was no salad garnish & the presentation was terrible, & all for the pricey sum of £8.50 EACH, complete & utter rip off.I was really looking forward to a crab sandwich whilst on my holiday in Cornwall, & this has left a sour taste in my mouth.As we are currently in an economic downturn due to Corona Virus, this Restaurant really needs to buck its ideas up, as they don’t deserve to stay in business.Please save your money & go elsewhere.

We booked into Alvorada 2 weeks in advance as we didnt want to miss out having read such good reviews. We werent disappointed. Sitting right on the harbourside, the chef has his own fishing boat and catches all the fish that he later prepares for you. He is a real character with a great sense of humour and his cooking is superb. Sardines cooked to perfection and his fish casserole with potatoes and peppers was the best meal i have had in a very long time. Assisted by his lovely wife you will not be disappointed if you enjoy a good hearty meal with some laughs thrown in......highly recommended

Managed to get a table following a cancellation, their loss our gain! Fantastic food in a lovely relaxed setting with a good atmosphere. Mussels were gorgeous as were the sardines for starters, monkfish scallop & prawn kebabs were lovely served with typically Portuguese chips & salad. Good wine & all reasonably priced. It’s moving soon to a smaller venue & suggest if you are busting you book well ahead.

We fell upon this little restaurant quite by accident - what a find! Literally on the harbourside, the menu dishes tempted us inside and we enjoyed an excellent lunch. This is a really authentic eating place, with strong Portugese influences. The owner and his wife were friendly and chatty and all th food that we saw coming out of the tiny kitchen looked amazing. We both opted for a starter "special", upsized to a main portion. Plump, juicy scallops cooked with leeks, garlic and white wine, served with fresh, crusty bread, salad and home-made, skinny chips. It was absolutely delicious. My glass of rose wine was chilled and dry and the red was a success too. No room for desserts, so we finished with strong black coffee - the total bill was just on £60. Excellent food, excellent value for money. If you're in Mevagissy, make a visit to this restaurant a priority. It's very special.

Having read the specials board outside which looked amazing we booking for later in the week for an early dinner. The chef & his wife had a great system going to maintain social distancing. Only 2/3 tables at a time , the food was freshly cooked very well & service was quick. We had local tiger prawns to start , fish kebabs & stews followed by Portuguese egg tart. Def worth a visit

My wife and I were very lucky to get a table in late afternoon at Alvorada. The owners Sue and Antonio were great characters and made us feel very welcome. I enjoyed an enormous whole plaice on the bone whilst my wife had monkfish, prawn and scallops kebabs, both of which were fabulous. Highly recommend eating here for the freshest fish (Antonio has his own fishing boat), cooked and served in the Portuguese style.

Wonderful atmosphere and food, cooked and served by friendly owners overlooking the harbour. Socially distanced tables made for a more intimate evening and we found ourselves chatting acrtoss the room to fellow diners. The seafood, freshly caught by the owner, was amazing. I understand they are relocating in the near future but keeping the name. Look this place up, its worth it.

A little gem on the harbour side if you like authentic Portuguese food cooked with knowledge and love. We had a super lunch with fish caught that day. Perfect. Very welcoming owners who are clearly passionate about what they do.
