Source Kitchen in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re looking for a special place to eat where people care about great ingredients and amazing flavours, this is the place for you. I love how Stephen and Sophie use local ingredients and seasonally sourced. Also they are big advocates for English wines I love trying what they have each time we visit, which can be two or three times even over a weekend :-) A warm welcoming atmosphere, along with a thoroughly tantalising menu will await you for your visit to Source.

Best meal I have had in as many years that I can’t remember! - superbly executed, delicious dishes packed with subtlety and taste. This is a must visit place. Service and music were also exemplary. We dined for my wife’s birthday and were so so happy with our choice.

Very overpriced. I asked for a flat bread to accompany the pickle plate and find £5 an outrageous amount. The mussels were good. The whole experience, already too expensive, was further spoiled by being charged twice when the server said that the card machine was low on charge. Restaurant is altogether too pleased with itself, and this is really not warranted.

A great tasting menu including the classic Beef Sunday Roast with all the trimmings. Today was our third visit, and each time it has been an absolute favourite of ours. At £38 per head, it is great value for money. They also cater for gluten free diets.

A very lovely and lucky find on our trip to Cornwall for New Year. We were a little sceptical at first as to how service might flow given everyone arrives at the same time - 8.00pm. We needn’t have worried- this is a well oiled, friendly and welcoming team. The menu was expertly explained and we chose our selection of sharing plates. Dishes were delivered as they were ready but it flowed well and we weren’t rushed. Apologies for the lack of photos but it was far too delicious not to dive right in. Lovely vibe - clearly a number of locals as well as visitors. Thank you all.

Our favourite restaurant in St. Ives. We came here for lunch and ended up coming back the next day. The dishes were creative and full of flavour, all made with local ingredients. The mussels are a must-try. The Fowey Valley cider is top-notch, one of the best ciders I've had. I also appreciate that Source Kitchen serve loose leaf Earl Grey in a pot. Thank you for a great meal!

We were visiting St Ives for the afternoon - we'd been out for a windy and rainy walk along the South West coast path and we wanted somewhere cosy with great food for lunch. Source Kitchen was perfect! We found it by chance as we were trying to escape the rain, and they luckily had space for us to sit up at the bar. Everything we had was absolutely delicious - we had an amazing beetroot dip, some fresh boquerones, flatbread with sage butter, and crab bisque with cheese and leek toasts. We pretty much licked our plates to get every last bit off! Highly recommended and lovely staff too.

Source kitchen is always worth a visit when in st Ives! We opted for the Sunday lunch, which included 4 snack dishes. Everything was gorgeous, great ingredients and expertly cooked. Service is always very nice too.

Great evening at Source Kitchen. Stephen looked after us very well, with a series of excellent dishes. The highlight was the perfectly cooked sea bass in a crab bisque. Really good selection of English wines too. Not too hectic on a Saturday night in November either. Will be back 👍

Found on the off chance, and glad we did. Brunch menu was nice and simple, i had the cornish sausage flatbread which was very tasty and a reasonable portion. Staff very friendly and was helpful when asking touristy questions. Brilliant.

Excellent restaurant, offering various small plates. Good choice of dishes for vegetarians, full of flavour. Reasonably priced menu. Service was spot on with attentive and friendly staff. Picante was delicious and spicy!

The food we ordered (we chose turbot, then a beef shared platter) was well cooked and well presented. Tasty small platters that we were invited to share. But we felt nothing presented was more special than a good home-cooked meal. So no wow-factor. Though the prices (over £40 for a shared small turbot) seemed more than a tad overpriced for what they were . I queried the prices on the wine list. The cheapest bottle of wine I saw was over £30; most seemed to be in the £60+ bracket. I commented that Langans Brasserie had a cheaper wine list. The chef disagreed with me. I realise, having since looked their wine list, that he was right, Langans do have a pricier wine list. But only just !! Though it has to be said (and I’ve dined at Langans a fair few times) that the food on offer at The Source was not in the same league as that of Langans. The only similarity was the price.

We first visited source 3 years ago and based our next few trips to Cornwall around eating here again. We were so happy with our experience the first time that we were worried it would disappoint a second, and a third time, but it never has, it’s been amazing every time. The service is always so lovely. The food is so delicious. We will keep coming back every single year! DELICIOUS!

Just had the most incredible sunday lunch. All the food and wine was amazing and the staff could not have been more accommodating and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Last August we visited this place very short. We were tourists and plannig to have some lunch here with our 2 children. We brought some croissants for them to the restaurant. As we sat down, we were told that bringing food for our kids was not allowed. Okay, fair enough, I can imagine, respect that. While we took 1,5 minute to think what to do, the kitchenworker ran out of the kitchen and yelled angry at us like we were little children. "This is not allowed, you are making a mess, look at the table!" ( there were a few crumbs)" You wouldn't do this in your own house!" (Our house is always a mess with children, many houses with children are a mess.) "Not in my kitchen!" We were so flabergasted about the rude and vain way he yelled to us. We left, because we felt so disrespectful treated. Our daughter cried because of his angry loud voice. That makes me angry, if you are having a bad day or cannot control your stress, dont get your guests involved. You do not treat people like that, no matter who they are. He wasn't worth our time and money. The kitchenworker claiming himself the owner and chef, I have another opinion about the definition of that. Better hire a host and stay in your kitchen, as he said, my kitchen!!

We booked for Sunday lunch and luckily for us it was the on the day the Sunday Roast Feast returned for the Autumn/Winter menu. We started with ‘Snacks’ - 4 consecutive plates of delicious tapas style dishes to share. Then came the ‘Roast’ - melt in your mouth Sirloin beef with all the trimmings, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Dessert was a perfect rhubarb & apple crumble with clotted cream ice cream. The service was also excellent and we would highly recommend the restaurant and definitely the Sunday Roast Feast - £40 per head but well worth it. Make sure you’re hungry before going!

Stumbled upon Source Kitchen for an impromptu lunch and my oh my were we impressed! The food, innovative and delicious, the cocktails are fantastic. Make sure you visit Source Kitchen.

Dining at source kitchen felt like an experience not just a meal! The quality of the food we ate here was incredible. It felt like ‘fine dining’ with a relaxed seaside vibe to it. We ate mackerel that had been caught in the St Ives bay and lots of local seafood and veggies! The oysters were MASSIVE. Honestly I have never had a more tasty / creamy risotto and we had to ask the owner of the restaurant how they gave it such an amazing flavour it was THAT GOOD. Sharing plate portions were bigger than we expected and were reasonably priced given the fact that all food was clearly fresh and locally sourced. Service was extremely personal, staff were chatty and knowledgable and we honestly loved every minute. Thank you and we will 100% be back.

My wife and I ate dinner here after browsing the extensive menu at the door…We had two small glasses of English rose at £12 a glass a bit steep we thought…but we were in holiday mode…we were then given our menu which was totally different to the menu outside! It was then explained to us that we should order at least two or three plates…cajoled more like into ordering two or three sharing plates… we ordered a bread/sauce starter to share..very bland…and two plates fish and shellfish they were definitely not sharing plates…way way too small! So hungry!we ordered another flatbread which came late and undercooked! we were so very disappointed with the whole dining experience Food was just very average certainly not up to Rick Steins seafood restaurant standard..where we ate lunch the day before in Padstow and like for like was very much more expensive To add insult to injury we found out later that the English rose from the same vineyard can be bought at M&S for £12 a bottle! The bill for two came to £101.10 without coffee!!! Felt patronized conned and ripped off …won’t eat here again! Porthmear Beach Cafe down the road is much better!

An artisan restaurant situated off the busier streets in central St Ives. Small plates and mains served with passion and flavour with ingredients sourced as local as possible. Fish indicates which boat brought it in. On the expensive side but a taste experience.

While the service and ambiance was perfectly acceptable, I ordered the dressed crab. This is not what I was served. Dressed crab is a whole crab cleaned and usually returned to its shell. What I received was a bowl with rather runny brown meat covered by a layer of shredded white meat. No sign of the juicy pieces of claw meat that you would expect. When I complained the chef said that "It is what I call dressed crab". I could call a penguin a fish, it doesn't make it so! He went on to explain that I had a carefull measured portion, no doubt scooped out of bought in containers. The total weight was 5oz a rather small crab's worth I would say. Iwas served crab, but definately not dressed crab. Three stars because of the pleasant service and my wife's risotto was acceptable. One star for mine.

Despite the likelihood of being ripped to shreds by the owners, I have given this restaurant 2 stars. First of all I would say the quality of the food is good but the concept, depending on the mains chosen, was not for us. We were told when we sat down that the restaurant worked on a sharing basis and we would receive the dishes when they were ready. Fabulous we thought, we love sharing food. Our first main out was the fish in tarragon butter, nothing else came so we shared and finished that (what about the potatoes to mop up that lovely tarragon butter?). Then we had a salad of beetroot; again we shared and finished that, followed by the IofW tomatoes; again we shared and finished that; then the lamb arrived which we were hesitant to start but did and then finally the potatoes. (By this time myself and my husband were laughing hysterically). For us the joy of dining out is enjoying the tastes of food combined and not just eating five individual plates in succession, particularly when we don’t consider beetroot, tomatoes or potatoes to be dishes in their own right. During our week in St Ives we ate at several high quality restaurants and whilst the quality here is not in doubt, the experience is not one we will be repeating.

On the 4th of September at 19:30 we had some very nice mussels. The problem was the table next to us had a black very smelly dog. I should have left I will next time.

Absolutely everything about this place is fabulous! Amazing food. Excellent service. Great vibe. 100% recommend a visit if you’re around, definitely worth the money! Favourite for us was the Lamb and Pollock.

We had a very delicious brunch here at Source Kitchen. Both the bubble and squeak and folded heaven were very well prepared.

The food was really tasty, and the atmosphere was nice. If you’re into oysters this is the place for you, as these were the best I’ve ever had. The dessert was incredible and the crab was nice, but it had shells in it which no one warned us about. Because we got there late the menu was quite limited (at least half was unavailable) which we were not warned about when we booked over the phone before going there (granted we were 10 minutes late on our booking because we couldn’t find parking, but that still seems unfair). As we got there the host was nice, however he very passive aggressively pointed out on multiple occasions that we were late, which I guess it fair but I would have rather he just turned us down as we got there if it was that big of an issue (considering we couldn’t even have the whole menu to choose from). Overall the place was nice, however I feel like we could not enjoy its full potential due to the limited menu.

We were looking for somewhere nice to sample super fresh local ingredients in St Ives and tripadvisor sent us to Source Kitchen. We were sat at the bar which gave us a perfect view into the kitchen which was spotless and ran like clockwork. Waiting staff were excellent - knowledgable, fun, friendly and attentive. Food was incredible. Local oysters were excellent, we loved the sharing plates and the lobster was perfectly cooked.

Wonderful! We were greeted amazingly, looked after and guided with what food was good. 10/10 dishes to share that really bonds the table. Delicious dishes including the tuna, heritage confit tomatoes and the nduja flatbreads! Wine and puddings were also amazing! The service was amazing and the espresso martini at the end made it!

Wow - had a birthday meal here last week and what a treat. 4 of us went and shared the dishes so got to try a lot of what was on offer and all was delicious. Service was fantastic and our waiter took time to explain each dish as it arrived. Highly recommend for a treat.

A great experience overall. The food was incredible, the atmosphere very laidback and the staff very friendly and enthusiastic.

We had our best meal of ten days in St.Ives here. We reserved, but wrong date (our error) and they managed to get us a couple of seats at the bar to eat anyway. The quality of the food is superb, with lots of smallish plates to pick from and share. High quality local produce, with interesting flavour combinations. And just lovely, friendly staff happy to advise on dishes and chat about life in equal measure. Highly recommended

The staff here were so nice. Really down to earth hood people. The food was excellent- in particular my wife and I couldn’t get over how tasty and generous a portion the Ray wing was. Great food, dining, experience.

Really lovely restaurant in the heart of St. Ives. Menu was thoughtful, local, seasonal and very well presented. We found it walking around town and think it was the best restaurant in St. Ives - we went for both dinner and breakfast. To the other comments regarding price and portions, we found this food to be very reasonably priced for the quality, preparation, and service. By far the best meal we had in St. Ives! Can’t wait to come back again

Delicious and memorable. We showed up without a booking on a Saturday evening and were lucky to be squeezed in. We wanted to avoid the 'chips with everything' places and weren't disappointed. Really wonderful, just don't look too hard at your credit card statement afterwards.

Three of us ate out here on Friday evening. We shared some great local seafood; lobster, crab and mussels cooked and presented perfectly. It was a great evening to round off our week in St Ives. Service was friendly and helpful which is appreciated as my wife is coeliac. Lots of menu options for her to choose from. We liked it so much the last time we ate here that we came back. The only reason that it’s not a 5 star score is that it is a bit pricey in my view for a place that doesn’t have a sea view (but the welcome, service, atmosphere and quality of cooking is brilliant).

Really blown away with this place. The wine was great, we shared a number of dishes; the crab, mussels, oysters, potatoes, braised beef and garlic flatbread to start. Every dish was amazing and super tasty and the presentation was lovely. The host was friendly, attentive and funny. A must visit in the centre of St Ives just of fore Street.

Absolutely delicious food. As a chef myself there is nothing I appreciate more than non-fussy, great quality, tasty food! Source Kitchen uses local ingredients and prepares them perfectly to enhance the flavour profile of each ingredient! Will definitely be back for more! Service was great too with very attentive, efficient, and kind staff.

The focus here is on fresh and quality ingredients done really well. Never had raw asparagus before but thinly sliced with pesto and cheese it was superb. It’s a small plate sharer place so order a bunch of stuff and share. It’s also a bit taster menu so as you finish one plate then next one comes out so you can enjoy each dish on its own merit. Simple food done really well.

Cozy restaurant with nice variety of dishes. Cool concept of sharing plates for the table was perfect for our table of 4. Nice wine menu and the food was so fresh and served piping hot straight from the kitchen which we all loved. Also recommend the tart for desert 👌🏻

My wife and I ate here last night for our anniversary weekend away, and it was fantastic. Delicious food, drinks and excellent service from Rob and Isaac. A really lovely restaurant, we’ll be back again for sure, and will heartily recommend to friends and family visiting St Ives.

It's a shame that there are only 5 stars to choose from. I would award it much more. I had bubble and squeak and egg and sausage and my partner had Turkish egg. Both perfectly presented and tasted out of this world. Rob could not do enough for us. Both the chefs were fantastic. A unique experience. An extremely clean and pleasant place and very comfortable and welcoming. Will definitely return on our next visit.

A fabulous dining experience , it’s all about sharing and the fours of us chose one of each off the menu. The flavours and presentation of each were simply superb. Particularly enjoyed the mussels in curry - exceptional . Highly recommended .

Fantastic New Year,,'s Eve at Source Kitchen! Phenomenal evening last night: amazing food, beautifully presented with great service on such a busy night . Already booked for 2023.!

Thank you chef for picking the ingredients to bring out the best of each course. We love the crab meat salad, can't have enough of it. Also the mussels was a hit. In fact, every dish was fantastic.

Loved our experience here. First impressions, the decor is really fresh and clean. Our waiter was super knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the sharing theme which we hadn’t expected, and it was a real treat to be able to try some of everything. Every dish was beautifully seasoned, and everything had a really interesting and different twist. We all loved the mussels with Nduja (I literally drank the rest of the sauce whilst nobody was looking! 😬) The flat bread and Labneh was lush! I really enjoyed the baked celeriac. The fish dish was super fresh and cooked perfectly. The absolute icing on the cake was the Venison suet pudding which was just amazing. Melt in the mouth, warming, comforting and rich. I keep dreaming about it and need to have it again! It was all really interesting and tasty food that I would never make at home, so it felt like a proper treat. The wine was beautiful and was also available to purchase to take away (minus the corkage) which is a great idea. I’ll be back for that rosé! Thanks to all of the team for a lovely experience. fantastic meal from start to finish. unpretentious, friendly, informative service. Not so keen on music in restaurants. Been before and will definitely book a meal again when we visit St Ives the next time.

There just aren't enough stars to adequately rate the Source Kitchen. The food and drink offerings are both unique and amazing. The owners and staff are not just friendly, but also manage to elevate the overall experience, with their passion for, and insights into, the foods they're presenting. Very much looking forward to my next visit.

Incredible food, the crab was the best we've ever eaten. The setting was very intimate and atmospheric. Very attentive staff who were very friendly and accommodating.

Well if you are looking for an expensive night out this restaurant is superb. It specialises in sharing plates and the food was exceptional. We had nibbles to start with, padron peppers and lovely bread. Then clams which were delicious. Then spring onions followed by venison and new potatoes. Everything was perfect. The wine list was excellent and we had a French pinot noir from Burgundy. Cheese course and then a small pud to share. With coffee it came to just over £200 for two (inc service) but it was worth every penny. Service was also faultless. Nice decor. A good night out. Strongly recommend this lovely restaurant, however do not go there if you want a normal 3 course meal.

A really great little restaurant. Bit on the expensive side, but then having paid an eye-watering amount for some dreadful fish and chips the night before, we realise that everything is expensive in St Ives.... Fresh ingredients, skillfully presented, and a wonderfully attentive serving staff, what's not to like?

Lovely meal for a birthday treat. Our second visit and first in the evening. Dishes are very nicely cooked and well presented. Bags of flavour. Just two things that prevented 5* from use. The stools in the window are not very comfortable. Not 100% convinced the sharing dish idea quite works as it seems to fall between a normal menu and a tasting menu. That’s said food was lovely and the service is fantastic.

Spent 4 days in St Ives and this is definitely my favorite restaurant here. Amazing food with friendly service☺️☺️

We stopped for lunch on a boiling hot day. The choice of local produce was wonderful. Service was friendly and attentive. The dishes were explained well too. We ordered a selection of dishes between three of us. The carrots with whipped local cheese was delicious. The crab dish was also superb! I would recommend you visit and would definitely come back. One of the nicest meals out I’ve had in a long time. So glad we came! Our waiter Rob was extremely helpful and accommodating, especially with complicated dietary requirements. Really fantastic food and 11/10 service! So accommodating to all food intolerances and preferences and were happy to change things up for us. Our waiter Rob was friendly and had a great knowledge of the ingredients used in the menu. Every dish was fresh , local and delicious. Highly recommend.

The food was fabulous - as was the service - great experience. This was in spite of a table of 10 idiots who had booked a big chunk of Saturday night’s capacity and then walked out saying ‘ the menu doesn’t suit us.’ Gutted for the chef/patron/staff. Horrible people - but the team weathered it. This place is special. Thanks

Fantastic meal, truly impressive food, and great service! Sadly the wonderful staff were put in a horrible position when a party of 10 decided to stand up and walk out without eating and by extension paying, which then left a bad atmosphere in the restaurant which was now at 50% capacity on a Saturday night. The loss of income on the table of 10 seemed lost on this common mob, and they seemed surprised that they would lose a deposit….! It seems these ignorant people do not care for small independent businesses sadly, and they should stick to Wetherspoons! Sad to see such abhorrent behaviour from a group of 10 and it was sad that they were clearly a bit out of their depth in such a lovely restaurant and maybe the McDonalds menu is a little more affordable and palatable in future! #nuggets

I can only add to what others have said re the posting by Nigel Mason - we witnessed that whole group come in and depart without eating anything - shame on you for posting a negative review re food you didn’t even order just because you couldn’t be bothered to read a menu in advance on line ! Our experience was excellent as always and delivered on every dish - lamb was a particular highlight-

We had a beautiful meal at Source Kitchen and were so impressed with the quality, taste, service and value for money at the restaurant. We'll be booking again before our holiday is over - unlike anywhere else in St Ives!

Had a lovely dinner here. They were able to accommodate my allium allergy for most menu items. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! Our friends are locals and they said it was the best restaurant in town. I agree!

Exactly what I wanted, welcome retreat to the tourist traps/hubbub. Simple decor and lovely presentation, fresh food served by a great bunch of people. Would happily go back!

A wonderful time was spent here. It as a relief - what with all the other restaurants in the town, it’s difficult to know what truly is a great place to dine, verses what’s just a magnet for local tourism this place was great. We ordered drinks and food to share and hope to return again soon to try more from the magnificent menu. When we left, we said goodbye to everyone and everyone said goodbye to us. Friendly, attentive, great food, great service.

Lovely, fresh food made to order. We were looking for a light lunch and we found a perfect place to dine in. I can tell that the Shef is passionate about the food they are producing. No salt, pepper and heinz products on table because everything has delicious taste. Local produce with contemporary twist. Well done guys!

Do not under any circumstances book this restaurant. God forbid you have to cancel ( which we did 21 days ago). We have still been charged £120 to our card. When we went in to complain we were met with an obnoxious response. They denied our cancellation! Reading other reviews it’s not the first time this has happened which leads me to believe it’s a scam that this place is running. We actually cancelled because our friend had been and said it was awful Do not bother

Booked to come here a couple of months ago but after a friend visiting and giving it a bad review we decided to cancel. I noticed last night that the source kitchen had take £120 out of my bank. I rang them and explained that I had cancelled on the 23rd June by phone. The day after I went in with my husband to sort this out and to show that I had cancelled. I was met with an attitude from the start! He said that they had phoned me last night and left a voice message. I had no missed calls and certainly no voice message but all he kept saying was ‘allegedly’ over and over again when I said that I had cancelled and I had no missed calls. This is obviously some kind of SCAM that this Stephen does and I’ve noticed on a few reviews on Google that he’s done the same. Disgusting attitude from a man who thinks he’s Rick Stein! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I would advise people to go to the sloop (captains table) for a beautiful meal and wonderful staff.

Tried a pale ale brewed in Launceston, and just some tidbits brunch really, absolutely superb, couldn't fault it, spot on.5stars.

Not dog friendly and poor customer service for managers. We ordered food as we sat outside then it started to rain. The restaurant was emptying with no customers in their seated area (the restaurant) and the chef solution was eat outside in the rain. Avoid if you have a dog.

One of my meals of the year. I had expected a good meal, but I was blown away by the excellent, simple cooking and delicious ingredients at this charming restaurant. Everything was pitch perfect. It is fresh, light, extremely delicious and we'll judged food, with a strong wine list. I genuinely recommend everything but all the veg dishes in particular had a clarity that was just wonderful. Thoroughly recommended.

The evening meal we had at Source Kitchen was sensational. Individual sharing plates are served up as they're ready. It's a simple and informal approach but really works well. One of our dishes included raw asparagus, which was a revelation and absolutely delicious. The neck of lamb was also cooked to perfection. Service is relaxed but informative. If you want a special meal out, this place won't disappoint.

Delicious charcuterie board, crisp local rosé and good service. Lovely find!
