Excellent food however a disappointing service. Multiple staff were available however lacked attention to detail. Our water jug would remain empty unless prompt for more water, our cutlery were casually placed by the younger waiter. Forgotten orders. During our entire 3 course meal, no one cares to take away the empty drink glasses or ask whether we would like any more drinks. In general, 3/5 for service and 5/5 for food. The food was impeccable, well-presented and en point. The 'manager' walked past our table a few times, looking over the table, but didn't notice empty drink glasses, empty water jug etc - quite disappointed at the standards of services for such a lovely venue.

This was our first visit to St Elizabeth's after the restaurant was recommended to us by friends. The setting is lovely and the interior decor very nice. There was a large choice on the menu and after ordering our meal the starters arrived quite quickly. The main courses were generous but all of our party were still able to squeeze in a dessert. We all enjoyed our meals very much and even though one of our party is a coeliac this was well catered for by the restaurant. Thought the bill was very reasonable, the service was very good and all the staff were very friendly. We shall be returning for another meal here very soon.

We received a very warm welcome at Reception and were guided through to our reserved table in the Darcy Room where tea was to be served. The room was fresh, bright and comfortable with lovely views of the grounds. The food was served on an elegant tiered tray which seemed to be groaning with the amount of food arranged on each layer. The range of finger sandwiches were fresh and tasty. We were introduced to the lady who made all of the fancy patisserie elements; she was courteous and friendly. The delicacies that she had produced were delicious. Finally the scones; they were large but delicate with oodles of jam & clotted cream. We really couldn’t have asked for more. We were not able to finish all of the wonderful food; the staff brought along some boxes for us to package up and take away the items that we couldn’t eat. The owner, Teresa, stopped by our table to ask how we were enjoying the occasion. What a great personality, very charming and super friendly. She clearly leads from the front and has a great rapport with her staff; a great asset to the business. We would definitely recommend and will certainly return.

We had a Gift Voucher for Afternoon Tea for Two. When we entered Reception the person on Reception was on the phone and didn't even nod to acknowledge us. We then waited at the Sign (Wait Here to Be Seated). We were greeted casually by the person we assumed to be Maitre d'. He took us to our table in the Conservatory and we sat and waited, and waited; eventually a waitress asked us if we had been offered tea or coffee. This was delivered. We sat and drank a cup, and another cup. We had arrived, as booked for 2pm. After 2.30 I asked my husband to see if they had forgotten us - how long can it take to assemble a few sandwiches, 2 slices of quiche and some fancy cakes? At that very point a waitress appeared with our Tea! And very delicious it was too. We enjoyed it. There was music playing just behind us in the Conservatory that was very pleasant and relaxing - but ... there was also (different) music playing in the bar next to the Conservatory, so we had conflicting tunes ... it would be better to have the same music in both rooms perhaps? Overall, although we enjoyed the food and surroundings, we were a little disappointed with the service. We do appreciate the issues surrounding staff in hospitality at present, but we felt no warmth or welcome.

I attended on a Sunday afternoon with a large group for afternoon tea. Tea and coffee was help yourself with hot water from an urn which was luke warm. The food was served buffet style and the cold cash and carry quiche was served after we’d eaten our sandwiches. The desserts and scones were lovely. Such a disappointment that after paying the same price as a normal cream tea it was similar to being in the canteen. Saying that, the staff were very friendly.

Went there for a firms meal last week , and we couldn’t get out quick enough. I was backing on to a rather large man , and every time the waiter or waitress past they hammered my chair every time, I mentioned it to a waiter that was in charge and he made very light of it. Apart from the place not very warm as there weren’t many radiators on, they then came alone and opened all the windows, not a good idea when you are meant to be having a hot meal. We have been many times before , but this was the last time, never again.

Been going for 5+ years for festive lunch and how it has gone downhill. Setting is lovely and really nicely decorated shame about the food and service. Gone are the range of breads, get white warmed part baked with cafe style butter sachet, 1 per person. Prebooked 3 courses Starters took 15 minutes to bring out 9 in total. Hot plates came first so diners needed to go ahead to eat while hot. Pate clearly from bookers savers range. No vegan bread and took quite a while for celiac to arrive. (Remember we'd pre booked) Mains arrived. Potatoes inedible on a few plates, sprouts rock hard, no vegan gravy and a teaspoon of other veg if on the plate at all !! Then get informed here's your lamb but ran out of mint sauce. No sorry just a shrug. No one came to the table to offer any drinks service and ask if everything OK. Guess they didn't want to know the answer. On being given the bill we noticed they had kept a £10 deposit for someone who was unable to attend and they'd been informed 5 days before. I queried this and was met with an argumentative woman who said deposits are none refundable. Advised that we have been going there for years and asked if good will gesture would be the same as a previous year as given lots of notice and spent over £250 ! Again met with woman stating it days in small print and she knows what she's talking about as she is a receptionist!!! Wow wow wow. As if £10 was anything to them ! So all in all not good service, not quality food and rude response. Gone downhill by far since last year. Even the cheese board had diminished by half. Definitely mutton dressed as lamb without ability to get in a jar of mint sauce now.

It really is a beautiful place, beautifully decorated, in a gorgeous setting. The food was also really lovely. However. Our large birthday party of friends needed to mostly pay separately. Whether our organiser was told beforehand that they would only take one payment for the whole group or not (and I doubt she would have forgotten, as she has an excellent memory), there we were, in that situation, all needing to pay (incidentally, as diners would in a restaurant - so can’t be that hard can it?). Instead of graciously accepting the situation we found ourselves in, and getting on with taking the card payments, the dark haired male waiter made us all queue up at the bar to pay - rather than just quickly going round the tables with the card machine. When I asked if there was a reason they couldn’t have brought the card machine to us, he just kept saying that they don’t normally do this, it’s not something they normally do, and complaining about our organiser as he claimed she had been told they wouldn’t take separate payments. I got the distinct impression that he was being spiteful and rude, to punish us for not being able to pay in one large sum. It’s a pity he couldn’t just have just got on and dealt graciously with the situation, without the rude comments. How easy it is for one member of staff to affect your business, and spoil an otherwise really lovely evening for your paying customers.

Visited with a family group of seven. A really lovely setting and very attentive staff. A beautifully maintained Edwardian/Victorian house with a real sense of style and glamour. The staff were very friendly and patient with our table who ranged from 9 years old to 89 and included a variety of needs (gluten free well catered for) - and indecisive ordering! Food was delicious. The prawn cocktail included some unusual mounds of clear lemon jelly - really refreshing and went with prawns v well. The roast belly pork was delicious with a range of well cooked and interesting vegetables (braised red cabbage with onion was especially good). It is a menu of two halves with traditional English sitting alongside a range of traditional Greek. I’d like to go back and try the Greek dishes as they also sounded really good. The children’s meal looked v nice but was really small versions of the adult portions with the same interesting vegetables, rather than very simple food. So it would be great if you had an adventurous child (or perhaps just a normal one!). My son only really likes v simple food and found it a bit overwhelming- but that says more about him really. The staff were very helpful and gave me an extra empty plate and so I could put what he was happy with on that rather than near any “challenging” vegetables. They also gave him another bread roll and more butter - so very helpful at circumnavigating the whims of my vegetable-challenged nine year old… The puddings were super - beautifully presented chocolate brownie (9 year old loved that ;-) and delicious crème brûlée with raspberry compote. Would definitely recommend and plan to return.

A beautiful hotel in a delightful setting. Had a Saturday two coarse lunch with friends. Very warm welcome, staff attentive. The lunch let it down. Chose prawn cocktail to start ( prawn shrimps} tasteless, but with the addition of a blob of lemon jelly was transformed immediately. Second coarse the roast beef but why do chefs think it appealing to serve a roast dinner in a large mound stacked up like a trendy burger. Its a roast dinner! The beef was very tasty a pile of it on top of a boulder of potatoes hardly roasted but soft, very large and flavourless .A lot of these were left on the plate by the party, such a waste. Some of the party said their meat was cold. I Searched for the veg and found a tiny fleurette of broccoli no bigger than a ten pence, small spoonful of very runny mashed swede, and a few strands of red cabbage. The Yorkshire pudding was a joke, flat colourless like a biscuit hard and inedible. I did mention these things to the waiter who said he would tell the kitchen. A bad day maybe! Such a shame, a few tweaks here and there, less meat, more greens and it would have been perfect, instead I came away feeling I had been served a plate of meat and potato!

Most of the mains were large platefuls. Roast beef was a huge plateful and very tough, the salmon was very dry and sent back, the chicken ballotine -Ok. If you had the goats cheese roll it was a starter size with little with it except chips a blob of salad with more cheese and half a tomato! when we complained they brought another one! the stifado was ok but had no olives.

Off the menu, I had scallops, although this came with a surcharge the flavour and presentation were amazing, the surcharge is expected I suppose when having something more expensive. For my main, I had Seabass which once again came with a surcharge but is expected. Although there was a surcharge the Seabass was great, the skin was super crispy and the flavours were next level, far superior to any other Seabass I have eaten. We arrived prior to the birthday girl in order to place flowers, gifts and a balloon on the table. The table was beautifully set with crisp white linen, silverware and glasses… the staff welcomed us as if we were long lost friends and helped us to place the flowers and gifts on the table, making sure everything looked just right. We were all made to feel very special and the wait staff were very attentive but not intrusive. The food here is exceptional in quality and value, our 3 course lunch costing £16.50 per person. January 5th was the evening to start our celebrations for my husbands 70th birthday. A table for 12 had been prearranged by ourselves with a table plan and place cards and one of the set menus chosen. We did have some dietary restrictions I.e.

Absolutely love it here, so this is not against the food or service. However, my birthday booking was cancelled as they had overbooked for afternoon tea. Cancelled the day before my birthday. Poorly organised. I am really upset.

The Hotel is situated in a nice location. The food was good hotel food, but it was not 'fine dining'. The staff were attentive.

From the moment we arrived the service was excellent, then the food which was very good. The atmosphere is relaxing, mostly friends and families meeting up. The menu is really reasonable for the quality of venue, food and service. We will definitely return.

We came here for a wedding and from start to finish the day was terrific, the bar is well stocked with drinks, plenty of choice. The food was out of this world perfectly cooked and huge portions you will not leave hungry. The waiting staff were attentive and personable and could not do enough for you. The setting is lovely with outside space of the weather allows. Could not recommend this venue more highly.

We had the 3 course lunch menu which was such a good price for what was served. Could not fault the food or service. The hotel is set in a lovely garden with outside seating to which we moved too for our coffee. I would recommend eating here.

We chose St Elizabeth's for Sunday lunch with the family to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and I honestly don't think we could have made a better choice. The historic house and extensive grounds make a fine setting, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout without being obtrusive. The sun was shining so we were able to sit out on the terrace for a pre-lunch drink and make our selections from the varied menu. Our starter choices ranged from scallops, chicken liver parfait, and Mediterranean trio, all of which were delicious. For the main course, there were easily half a dozen choices that I would have enjoyed, but in the end, we all went with the traditional Sunday roast. Half had the beef and half had the lamb and both were tasty with generous portions. The desserts were a work of art. We finished our meal with coffee in the lounge bar. If you are thinking of booking St Elizabeth's for lunch, don't hesitate. 5 stars.

We had a family meal for 14 of us on Sunday lunch time. The building is lovely and has a nice bar area. We had pre-ordered our lunch choices from the set menu, some time ago, so some of us couldn’t remember what we had ordered, so a little confusion ensued. My starter was Mediterranean trio, which was basically humous, Tzatziki and taramasalata, quite disappointing I though and not very imaginitive. My husband had the liver pate which he commented he had had better….The rest of our table seemed to enjoy their prawn cocktails and melon. For main course I had chicken ballotine, again I was disappointed. The stuffing had very little taste and the chicken skin was very burnt! Unfortunately the red cabbage and other veg weren’t to my taste either. Husband had the pig trio, which should have been pork belly, black pudding and sausage. The black pudding and sausage were missing and the pork belly tough. My husband would not let me complain as we were in company. The rest of the family seemed to enjoy their various roast dinners and their only complaint seemed to be they were over faced with the quantity. On the bill we were charged for 1 extra meal but that was quickly rectified with apologies. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating with taking photos for us.I would visit again when in Plympton and hopefully my choices would please me more.

I guess we must have gone on a bad day but honestly, very underwhelmed! Nearly £30 for two drinks and two bagels you think ok, this is gonna be out of this world, but we were left feeling short changed. We ordered the salted beef bagel which needed more salt and I’ve had a lot tastier sauerkraut, it was large so portion size was good but it just tasted very average, we also had the halloumi one but they forgot to add the chilli jam which is one of the main ingredients so no idea how they missed that, we bought them to go and only noticed when we got home! The coffee was ok but the chai latte was luke warm at best! All in all, for the price, and the reputation, we were left disappointed.

no atmosphere, stuck in the ‘conservatory’ area, cold, and extremely disappointing. heard really good things so will try again in a few weeks as hope it was a one off.

Really great, some of the nicest atmosphere I've seen in a restaurant in a long time. Food is great and reasonably priced, and the staff are all very friendly
