The Honiton Wine Bar in East Devon

Great spot, went with a few friends and it did not disappoint! Great service and food! Just got this app and wanted to say how great it was!

Cannot recommend the wine bar highly enough, always have a lovely evening with them. Tapas, burgers, steaks and a specials boards normally available all reasonably priced, with the food locally produced. The staff are always happy and efficient and food beautifully prepared and served. Local gems like this have to be visited to ensure that they can keep going in tough times like we face today. I know that we will always go as we’ve never had a bad experience and always enjoy every mouthful.

A very friendly restaurant with great grub. The food was delicious and fresh with a good selection of interesting food. My wife and I did not think we had over ordered but the portions were generous, loved the whiteboard. You won't go hungry and our whole evening was great value.

Recently ate here one evening. We didn't book on a Friday night but were lucky enough to get the last table. We brought our toddler and the staff were very accommodating and family friendly. Not many independent restaurants exist like this and it always feels like a unique dining experience when we visit. Drinks are good and so is the food.

As always the honiton wine bar were phenomenal with 5 star service, lush food and an amazing atmosphere. I would recommend The honiton wine bar to anyone anytime. Thankyou team THWB.

We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at the Honiton Wine Bar (a rear evening without our daughter🥓) we tucked in to some amazing food ..steaks we're delicious, drinks we're lush, dessert was moorish....the deep fried bree was epic. We had an amazing evening. The staff we're amazing, really attentive. A perfect evening. Thank you guys for making or evening something special 😎🙌

What a fabulous little gem this is on Honiton High Street! I have been visiting here for a number of years, it's a wonderful welcoming, friendly vibe, and the food is always incredible! The tapas is a definite highlight, alongside the belly pork or steak - I've enjoyed them all! The pancakes offered on the breakfast menu are utterly divine (if I could, I'd have them every day!). I've attended charity theme nights (the cocktail evening was a particular favourite, even if we didn't manage to get through the whole menu 😉) Loving the food and service as much as we do, we also asked if they could cater our wedding. Nothing was too much trouble; from the initial planning, to the day itself, the team put me at ease and were so friendly and professional, helping guide us through what we needed/wanted. We decided on tapas to start, pizza for main (these are no ordinary pizzas! Hand stretched, cooked in a woodfired pizza over, they are perfection!) followed by a selection of desserts. The food was plentiful, and the guests all commented on how much they enjoyed it! Honiton is fortunate to have a number of fabulous restaurants and cafes, but The Honiton Wine Bar is definitely top of the list for me!

We visited for a Saturday evening meal, a repeat visit as we have had great evenings here previously. We ordered tapas which was fantastic! However, we were then given the pudding menu and all decided on our options but after waiting half an hour for someone to take our order had all gone off the idea. During this half an hour, we observed bar staff eating bread behind the bar while chatting, staff members sitting and drinking wine on the table next door to us and each other of us made eye contact with a staff members. I then had time to leave the restaurant, walk through town to a cash point, calculated the bill ourselves and leave money on the table, then walk to the door before finally getting a ‘thank you’ from staff. We would happily have had puddings and further drinks but being ignored really ruined our evening. A dessert and bottle of wine from Tesco went down really well at home!

We have a friend who lives nearby, she took us there yesterday. We all had Tapas, every dish delicious and obviously freshly prepared. Reasonably priced highly recommended.

Whilst on holiday my husband booked this for my birthday meal. With 2 teenage children we needed somewhere all would enjoy and the wine bar ticked all the boxes! It has a lovely vibe, created in part by its friendly, welcoming staff. It had a good specials board but also does steaks, burgers, pizzas and tapas. Great fun cocktails and all fairly priced. The food was fresh and delicious. The teenagers also enjoyed the puddings. The service is a little slow but didn’t bother us and I think some of that is due to the food being freshly cooked not just reheated. You can go just for a drink but i would definitely recommend the food. We were also able to take our 2 dogs. A super find and we will be back.

We really love the Wine Bar and have just had an excellent pizza. Lovely tapas too! The choice of wines and ales are also really good.

We stumbled upon this fantastic little place on our holiday and could not have had a better experience. Firstly, it is priced fairly with a good unpretentious selection of wines catering for all tastes. We had the feta salad, chorizo and calamari to start. Couldn’t fault any of it. For mains we had the lamb kofta and the pork belly. The friendly and efficient front of house staff confidently disclosed when asked that everything is cooked fresh and is homemade. This is definitely the case and I would also suggest that the ingredients are of the highest quality. We had no room for dessert as the portions are so generous although not overwhelming but we took another bottle of wine with us to enjoy at home. We had the pleasure of a brief chat with the owner at the end of our time and it turns out that her husband cooks everything! We always try to support independent concerns and this place is right up there!

Disappointed there were only two tables occupied the service could have been better. It was cold as the door was wide open. It's a shame as it lacks atmosphere it is soulless and not inviting. It was always such a cosy and inviting place to eat and drink

Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and very friendly helpful staff. There were 7 of us celebrating a birthday and the team could not have been more helpful. All our requirements were met, gluten free and vegetarian. My son who loves burgers actually said ‘it was the best he’d ever had’. The presentation of the food was also fantastic. Would highly recommend for a family get together, business or a date night!

My husband and I popped in for a drink but ended up having the 20oz sharing steak with all the trimmings. It was delicious. Wonderfully cooked, great service, very friendly staff.

Called in here late-ish on a mid week evening on the way home from the beach. Friendly helpful team fixed us up with a delicious range of Tapas. A good find - glad we gave the chip shop a miss and came here instead!!!

Quite disappointing Tapas not recommended, mushrooms tinned 'can't believe it ' hummus bland ,could go on. Atmosphere good staff very nice

They have done it again. New tapas and sharing platters menu. Tried it out on Saturday 7th March. Had the fish platter and three tapas dishes, all were excellent. Will be back to try the rest ASAP. Thanks again to the owners and family for a fabulous evening.

We had not eaten more than a Teacake here for a long time so on a cold Winters day we visited for Brunch. During the day the Wine Bar often attracts a mainly elderly clientele but when we visited there were few customers, just as well as the premises were very cold with only a tiny electric heater in evidence. The Wine Bar is now family run. As always the Filter Coffee and attention from the Staff were good. Amazingly for 2020 no WiFi is available for Customer Use and we could not connect to O2 either. Living in Honiton has many benefits, but getting Online isn't one of them! My Wife's Bacon and Egg Sandwich was good but spoiled by the cheap and cheerful sliced white bread. My Small English Breakfast was barely warm and the Bacon was very underdone. Unless sitting in a refrigerator drinking coffee is your thing, there are better places to eat in Honiton.

As always atmosphere great. Excellent family run business. Food delicious and varied. Cater for all tastes.

Popped in here for a breakfast treat on a rare day off. Although I have been in often for a glass of wine, it is the first time I have eaten since the new owners took over.Can highly recommend it. My breakfast was really tasty, even the mushrooms, which I find can be a bit hit and miss in restaurants. Great, friendly service and nicely busy. I hear all their meals are brilliant, so will pop back for dinner next time.

We took our teenage grandson here for an evening meal. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. He had the 100% burger and thought it was great. The other two meals were ok. When pudding was ordered at 8.30pm there was quite a few items off the menu so we decided to forgo that choice.

I have breakfast here once a week as a treat. I have tried the full English, scrambled eggs on toast and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The food is always delicious, freshly cooked and sourced from local suppliers. This is family run and you are always made to feel welcome. Regulars have their favourite tables ready and waiting for them with a newspaper, a nice touch. If you are having breakfast you get filter coffee included with free refills if you desire. This is a great place to have breakfast and watch the world go by as you eat.

My husband and I went to the themed Curry night last night. We had a very warm welcome which continued throughout the evening. The food and service were excellent. There was a lovely atmosphere as everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves. We have had breakfast and lunch here, both very enjoyable with a good menu of all local produce appetizingly prepared. We would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Had Mum's 87th birthday here and it was fabulous. Everyone really put themselves out, with a decorated table, banners etc. The food here is always amazing, but carry the chef around the streets of Honiton cheering for the amazing salmon chowder! They even arranged a taxi to get us home.

Have eaten here 3 times in a week, varied from Breakfast a light lunch and a main meal lunch and its been superb. Great ambience really friendly staff and a great experience. Well done.

English Breakfast with coffee was £6.50 with a refill. The Mushrooms on toast with a slice of bacon was £6.25, both were great value. The food came quickly and freshly cooked

We met our relatives here when they were travelling to Cornwall from Kingsmead. We all had very different meals from scrambled egg to porage. Despite this, everyone's meals came out at the same time.The staff were delightful and made us so welcome.

The atmosphere in this wine bar was fab! The server was really great and made excellent wine suggestions.

The chips must have been thrice cooked as the were so good - and the creme brulee also really good. I sent the steak back as it was chewey. Asked for medium but it was more on the well done side. Quite a thin steak. Would have been better if thicker. The replacement was more medium rare but OK.

We visited tonight for the curry night, wow wow wow it was totally brilliant .

I visited The Honiton Wine Bar for the first time this evening with a friend for dinner. I was glad I had booked a table as it was buzzing (on a Wednesday evening) with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be returning!

A super, family run wine bar which also serves delicious, freshly cooked food. We sought it out deliberately, having had a marvellous experience there on a holiday a few years ago, and were initially sad to learn it had changed hands in the interim, but the service and food was second to none and won us over a second time - highly recommended.

We have been to The Wine Bar many times over the years. The new owners have freshened up the décor which is perfectly fine and has kept the ambience casual and cosy. We did have to wait for quite a long time for our food to arrive even though it was not very busy with diners on that particular evening. But we enjoyed our food, we had starters and mains which were tasty and very nicely presented. We shall be back again and wish the new owners all the best. one more thing, we know where the wine came from and we thought the mark up was a bit steep!

a meal in the evening with friends, a bit cramped but friendly staff and warm surroundings, bar prices reasonable (better in happy hour before 7pm) reasonable choice of food, especially the rump of lamb which was excellent. Others had belly pork and nut roast, all commented nice food, desserts were nice also. All round, I will go here again. One comment, although the tables were clean they need a deep clean to remove many layers of wax which made them feel sticky.

Always liked the Honiton Wine bar, however first visit for a over a year as no longer live in the area. New owners have given it a fresh new look, food still excellent, service spot on and very dog friendly. Thoroughly recommend.

I visited Honiton Wine Bar with my cousin and Aunt for lunch. Lovely bright and cosy atmosphere. We all had a different dish for lunch and it was scrummy! The service is excellent and the price was very reasonable for such an enjoyable lunch.

My partner and I went for lunch and the very friendly staff dealt with us quickly and efficiently, there were a variety of choices including vegetarian options for myself and the food was delicious. It was full of flavour and decoratively plated and after having desert we were both ready for a full and satisfied nap!! The coffee is also very good which is always a must for a coffee addict like myself. All in all a lovely time was had and we booked in for valentine's Day as well and we're very much looking forward to trying the special menu. Thank you!

Went for an evening meal with some friends and enjoyed a first class meal. Portions were generous and the food was of a very good quality and cooked to perfection. The new owners certainly know what they are doing and the four of us were made to feel extremely welcome fron the minute we walked throught the door. It's a popular restaurant so I would advise booking in advance if possible. I would certainly recommend!

The wine bar has recently changed hands and breakfast is a new thing. It's also had a bit of a refurb. We went in this morning to see the new décor and it's good. Much lighter and brighter; somehow it looks bigger too! Himself had the full works, I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on toast. It was all delicious, clearly local bacon and sausage and with black pudding too. Can you have too much smoked salmon with eggs? Normally I'd say no but today it was a close run thing. The staff were friendly and even re made our lattes because they were barely lukewarm. However it was a very long wait for food considering we were the only customers when we ordered.

First visit to the Wine Bar and thoroughly impressed. Lovely friendly staff, coffee top ups offered without having to ask. Lovely creamy latte. Breakfast delicious, well cooked and presented in a timely fashion. Very impressed and will be returning!

My husband and I went to the Honiton Wine Bar for my birthday. It was very enjoyable. The food, service and ambiance were second to none.

Friendly atmosphere with a lot of locals at the bar, we were sat in a quieter area near the door but given an oil burner to eliminate any cold from being near the door. Food was really delicious and they were really helpful with advise and changing a few things as my husband is gluten intolerant. Really enjoyed our time there.

At the last minute we were looking for somewhere in Honiton for supper with some friends. The Honiton Wine Bar had spare tables so we went in. At first glance this place is not what you might expect - for us it didn’t have that immediate bistro welcome. But we quickly warmed to The Honiton Wine Bar. The wine was good and we looked through the menu and chose the special of fish and chips all round. What a great choice - the food was absolutely excellent amazing crispy batter and lovely fish with crunchy chips. We had a couple of puddings - again excellent. We would definitely go back - great food, great wine and really good value.

Went here for lunch, we were a bit early but we had drinks and the server took our order so that when the kitchen opened the food was started straight away, i had the burger which was sublime by far the best i have tasted, my friend had the chicken which was also superb, the food is made on site so is fresh and full of taste,very reasonably priced, it is small and cosy but that adds up to a great atmosphere, we will return to try out the steak night very soon.

Small, intimate and extremely friendly. Menu had a good range of choices and was reasonably priced. I was the first to try the Duck: as well-cooked as I can remember. It was steak night and my wife had a fine 6oz. Rib-eye for £9.00. Will go again if we get a chance: do try it!!!!

We decided to try the Honiton wine bar for our anniversary meal...lovely atmosphere when we arrived small but cosy with all the fairy lights..we had prawn cocktail and the salmon gravlex for starters, steak with 3 times cooked home chips and a spicey chicken dish for mains and shared the Baileys tart and ice-cream for dessert..every dish was presented beautifully, cooked fresh and extremely well...our servers were friendly and efficient..we thoroughly enjoyed our evening and after seeing the reviews for the thursday steak nights will definitely be back to try that...thankyou..

Just had a wonderful meal here tonight. The trout with sea lettuce, watercress and new potatoes was gorgeous. The warm pecan pie and ice cream devine.Great quality food with friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Thursday is Steak Night at the Honiton Wine Bar and their rib-eye steak is amazing with sweet potato fries. Service was great from the waitress who showed us to a table, and the stand in chef (normal one off ill) was very quick and excellent. Bar man was very attentive too

Nice, cosy wine bar with a warm welcome. Open for lunch and dinner, not a huge menu selection but varied and very good but not too expensive. The wines and beer were nice and not overpriced. It is situated on the main road through Honiton A303 so makes an ideal stop off en route to the south west.

Such a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was so tasty, 5 of us had the steak which was beautifully cooked - no need for any extra salt and pepper it was perfect. Good choice of wine, bubbles and spirits. Amazing desserts; one of the best sticky toffee puddings! Will definitely be returning again soon.

I made my last, and final visit to the winebar yesterday! I arrived at 12.30 to an empty and very cold bar. only one guy at the bar. I was so cold I had to keep my coat on. When I tackled the waitress about the cold she seemed happy to inform me that there was no heating on that floor at all and that customers made it worse by not closing the door after them!

We have tried to find the right opportunity to visit here as we have many overseas visitors in need of a quality wine bar.

A meal with friends but not as good as we expected. Lamb casserole with dumplings. My dumpling are light and fluffy these had soggy solid bottoms. For £12 it was disappointing. Also why would you put on the menu choice of three sorts of chips ! One being MaCain Chips...frozen oven chips...really? The bar tender was friendly and chatty but we won’t be back

Had a lovely birthday dinner last week. We went on one of the special steak nights and the steaks were delicious and the accompanying sauces were excellent. Steaks were cooked just as we asked. Staff were very pleasant and good fun.

So a change of season and a change of menu. Went for a meal at the weekend, I had an amazing belly pork dish, really fantastic, I heard a young couple who had the same, saying it was the best they had ever tasted, so well, I had to try. My wife loves the fish here, and tried the sea bream with butternut risotto. I tasted the risotto, was really delicious. Brilliant deal for house wine as always. Friendly service, great price, our favourite place in Honiton

We popped into Honiton Bar Saturday lunch time as we enjoy food made with fresh local ingredients prepared by the very talented chefs.

Called in on the way to Beer (holiday cottage) to shop and lunch,not much happening in Honiton on a Monday!! Well found the wine bar and thought why not! What a happy stroke of luck!! Great service with humor(a rarity these days) food was very good and the price very reasonable.They managed to alter my view of Honiton altogether!! I have just read some of the recent reviews, and can not believe it is the same place !!

Looked pleasant from the outside. We visited for a late lunchtime snack on a Saturday. The place wasn't very busy...

We have eaten here a few times now and the food quality never fails me. Always tasty, new ideas, fantastic home made chips, and they are more than happy to adjust your meal slightly if there's something you can't eat or that you don't like. They change the menu in a regular basis which is a refreshing change. Staff are welcoming and greet you every time you come in. They are sometimes limited to space in there so if you are a large group you must book. Well done x

Our food was ok, but not memorable or somewhere you'd recommend. The first lady to serve us was grumpy and confrontational - she's going through the motions of serving rather than genuinely meaning / enjoying it. We came very close to walking out but hunger meant we stayed!

Very disappointed with the attitude of the older female fair haired waitress - no greeting just informed somewhat abruptly as she walked towards us that the menu that we were looking at on the inside of the window was the evening menu and what did we want? Other than a couple of coffees enquired what else was available? Response was far from polite or helpful to answer a question with a question. With hindsight clearly it would have helped had I been telepathic as there was no indication on the menu we looked at that it was for the evening or any other part of the day. No menus on the table either, nor were we handed one or advised what was available. At least the younger dark haired waitress was pleasant enough when she brought the cakes which along with the coffee were ok, but nothing special. Left feeling very annoyed.

From the second we walked through the door we knew we was going to enjoy our experience. The staff where warm and friendly and allowed us time to sit at the bar and relax before ordering our meal. We didn't feel rushed once sat down as some restaurants like to turn around tables very quickly. The food was excellent the staff where excellent and the atmosphere was excellent. Would recommend anyone thinking of visiting this little gem of a restaurant to go ahead, you won't be disappointed.

I was in Honiton for a couple of days helping my daughter-in-law move house. The Thursday steak night (also Tuesday) was good. The steak was thick, tender and cooked as requested. I also had the fish special on Friday. Very friendly welcome. My only quibbles were that the triple cooked chips were not crispy on the outside and the salad dressing was a little sweet for my taste. Honiton Wine Bar in our High Street is friendly, unpretentious & well-worn, rather like us really, so we feel completely at home! Its best feature is that it is a local business, and not some anonymous branch of a National Chain of Coffee Shops, so Customers really matter here! It's a very easy going, unhurried and friendly atmosphere, with added good food and coffee.The friendly and hard working female proprietors often chat with their many regulars as they serve them.Brunch is worth waiting for, well cooked using good quality ingredients. The Full English is excellent, especially the large flat mushroom, fresh not tinned. The bacon has a marvelous flavour​, and the thick slices of toast are made from locally baked bread. Even the simple bacon sandwich tastes very good. The cream teas include fruit scones and are yummy.Their portion sizes for Mains in the evening are not their strongest point and range from just adequate to tiny. The food is good quality and well cooked, but insufficient if you have a large appetite, and some dishes can be poor value for money. The House Wines are good and they even keep a Cask Ale, currently Doom Bar. The Steak Deal on Tues & Thurs Evenings is highly recommended. The Deserts are interesting and well-presented. Negatives, only that no free Wi-Fi is provided for Customer use, unusual these days for this type of establishment. It is also a shame that they don't keep the excellent Otter local beer.

Would not eat there as if you go to toilet upstairs you can see into kitchen ,and well it leaves a poor impression . The chef comes into eating area sometimes don't think that is a good thing ! Very small place . Have seen the food coming out it looks ok .

Spent a nice evening with 3 of my friends but the food was shocking, over priced and uninspiring. No vegetarian choice what so ever, chaotic menu and service wasn't great either, never asked if everything was ok or even offered anymore drinks ! Salads running in watery dressings, sickly desserts Will not be returning !

My husband and I decided to reward ourselves after all day gardening , so came to the wine bar for a lovely evening of food and drink. As before, steak, prawns and risotto were delicious, as was the desserts and it was a change for my husband to have a choice, given his need for gluten free food. We did previously patronise the wine bar until someone was a little too friendly to my husband which was upsetting and awkward. however , time had passed so thought try again and enjoyable time had by us both . Very good food☺️too. Highly recommend.

We had prebooked as in the area and trusted the good reviews on here. They were all right, the service and food was really very good. We weren't at all sure we'd made the right decision when we walked in as the decor quite dated but we had 2 lovely courses with husband having an extremely good dessert too. Not cheap but by any means but not expensive either and worth every penny as such good quality, well cooked food.

we had an excellent goats cheese salad and roll plus a bottle of the house red. all very acceptable and fairly priced.

I came here with my other half for dinner on a Friday evening. I've been extra fussy recently as i'm fed up of paying good money for an evening out and really feeling like it wasn't worth it. I'm so glad i stumbled across this place on trip advisor. The lady that was front of house was lovely, really welcoming and friendly. The menu has apparently recently changed and instead of a main course we opted for the fish platter to share followed by dessert. Everything is cooked to order but we still didn't have too long to wait. The food was delicious, i think for the money, maybe the portions could have been slightly bigger, maybe a salad and salsa each rather than to share. This meant I had room for my baileys tart dessert which was so yummy! We will definitely be back here, I thoroughly enjoyed the food!
