The evening we spent here was as one of the main highlights of our entire 11 days in Scotland. We accidentally stumbled in for a hot drink late morning on a Wednesday very early Feb, delighted to see something open. Their space was full of plants and had been laid out beautifully, we played scrabble and loved chatting to the staff. We found out they were open in the evening and spent the day at the beaches then came back for a three course pescatarian meal. The food was absolutely divine. A perfect blend of simple and fresh, while still interesting and full of flavor, served by the lovely Erin and Lara. We commented on some of the nods to fermented flavors and got invited into the kitchen where we spent a long while nerding out about food, growing, flavors and fermentation with Ru and Tim. This was our treat meal, not something we can afford often, but we felt the entire experience far surpassed the price tag. We were not rushed at any moment and stayed right up until lights out; we left feeling like friends. We are already scheming about how can plan another trip to Skye from Manchester so we can go back there!

New name, some new design features and vastly increased prices. Shame the breakfast rolls and full Scottish breakfast seem to have disappeared. I had a tasty hash stack, but £13!!. At these prices has to be compared to top hotels and restaurants . For these prices I think I would prefer the Wolseley on Piccadilly in London or maybe a trip to Paris or New York. So, Donald Johns or Cafe Cuil may not be a regular stop for locals n ow - just special occasions. The staff, however, are still charming, helpful and attentive

We stayed in the accommodation next door and had dinner and breakfast here. Food was fantastic. The breakfast was the best we have ever had in any Hotel. I had the full breakfast and my Husband had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The staff are lovely and treated our dogs well. We have already recommended this place to family and friends.

I was surprised to see the many vegan options considering the size of the place. but I got fooled. the food was completely tasteless and for that, very overpriced! the veggie chili, which was declared as the special of the day was the worst I ever had, the rice must’ve been warmed up, because the rice grains were hard. the sausage, beans and chips my boyfriend had was equally tasteless, the chips not even salted. you better stay away and spend your money somewhere else!
