We booked a meal expecting great things and with a hefty price tag we thought we were in for great treat. This restaurant over promises and definitely under delivers in so many ways. We had the 5 course set meal at £65.00 per head excluding wine. Very expensive considering that for the same price in Manchester, we can go to James Martins restaurant and have a 4 course full tasting menu with full wine flight for £59.00 per person, and a far better experience. We found the very small shared plates were far too small. Example... one course was a scollop that was sliced into 4. Over all lacking in taste and quality. Over promises, definitely under delivers.

New name, some new design features and vastly increased prices. Shame the breakfast rolls and full Scottish breakfast seem to have disappeared. I had a tasty hash stack, but £13!!. At these prices has to be compared to top hotels and restaurants . For these prices I think I would prefer the Wolseley on Piccadilly in London or maybe a trip to Paris or New York. So, Donald Johns or Cafe Cuil may not be a regular stop for locals n ow - just special occasions. The staff, however, are still charming, helpful and attentive

Understaffed. Reservations suggested. We didn’t have one and was seated at a bench. No bar. The Cullen skink was TERRIBLE- tasteless broth and no fish to be found! Went to Ling Haakon the following night and their Cullen skink was amazing! Super salad was good. Fish and chips average.

We stayed in the accommodation next door and had dinner and breakfast here. Food was fantastic. The breakfast was the best we have ever had in any Hotel. I had the full breakfast and my Husband had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The staff are lovely and treated our dogs well. We have already recommended this place to family and friends.

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

Arrived and wanting lunch we went here. Mistake!! Looked OK so ordered 2 sandwiches at £5.50 each, 1 tea and 1 decaff latte and a portion of chips. Drinks arrived and we got 2 teas instead of 1 tea and 1 coffee. Said it was wrong and told no that's what you ordered. No offer to replace! Then food arrived. The sandwiches were 2 slices of supermarket bread with processed sliced cheese. Certainly not worth what was charged. Chips were overcooked and only just warm and tasted of old cooking oil. It was edible so just ate and left and won't go back.
