2/9/22 - Friday afternoon drinks - Bar/Pub Revue Only We three middle-aged guys from London were drinking round the southern end of the Island and saw this pub on the way to the farthest south we could drive. On ours return we popped in. As we left our car at 4:35 in the car park a kilted young man greeted us and after trying different entrances we were sent internally to the far bar beyond the inn reception and restaurant. We entered the empty bar and were served by another barman who let us sample the local beers before buying. A large lcd was playing, The Chase, which the bar staff were watching intermittently. During our drink quite a few people came in too, a mix of locals and tourists (this seems to be the only bar/pub around locals anyway). Some of them were happy with the banal tv on (it was an annoying distraction for us as one of us is partially deaf and we were planning our routes and lodgings back to London). As the bar filled less people were watching it, it should have been turned off. The kilted barman refreshed the 'Quiz of Today' chalk board and in general this seemed a Local Pub for Local People (or those staying in rented houses or holiday homes) with a few ephemeral tourists popping by. Some were waiting for the restaurant to open at 5:30 I expect too. The free (no password) wi-fi was useful to book our next night's accommodation in Sterling. The Skye beer, Schiehallion Lager went down well as well as a local MacNamara Rum Cask whisky. As we had been spending a fair amount of time in the corner table for four I bought another beer for £4.50 just to pay our way. It was quite busy when we left at 6:15. Overall a nice convivial place to have a well priced beer and/or local whisky if you are passing by.

Staying at Eilean Iarmain Hotel but decided to visit their sister inn at Ardvassar, and its Macnamara Bar, for lunch. What can I say? Very good, if simple, lunch menu and the food they served was fresh and delicious. So good, in fact, that we booked for dinner that evening. Yet again, a nice menu very well executed. The starters (scallops/grilled goat's cheese) were tasty and the mains rather good of their type: a hearty and flavoursome mediterranean Sea Bass dish and Hake, served with a leek sauce, which was pefectly cooked. It's true that the decor is rather spartan but, in compensation, the staff are friendly and welcoming If you are looking for a simple but good lunch or dinner in S Skye, this is definitely a place to try.

Although we did not stay at the Inn on two occasions we certainly enjoyed the freshly cooked food and friendly service. If not resident we would certainly recommend pre booking as, not surprisingly, it can be quite a busy restaurant. The front of house staff were friendly & welcoming and were knowledgeable about both the new food menu and the drinks ind the bar. Whilst waiting for the food they chatted and engaged customers about sea fishing, island life and norn iron accents! The straight forward menu offered great choices and I declined the hake in favour of the venison pie, which was excellent - locally sourced and generous portions. The beers were well kept. The crumble was tasty although I would have preferred custard to ice cream and the whiskey recommendation : Bruichladdich, rounded off a celebratory meal in fine style. An enjoyable, good value meal, in a deservedly busy restaurant, even though it was mid week; friendly relaxed atmosphere staffed by efficient and friendly staff who represented the talented kitchen staff very well. Worth making a detour for, although I only had to walk down the hill from the B&B.

Booked Sunday lunch here. Had to change the time but need not have worried as we were the only two there! Such a shame as the food was delicious - locals you are missing out! We had yellow split pea soup to start, then I had a healthy super food salad and my husband had a trio of lamb chops. Oh.My.Word! Absolutely delicious food . Couldn’t fault any of it. The flavours were wonderful and there was a lot of it as well. No room for dessert so just had a coffee. Our waitress was lovely and friendly - originally from Spain she is now is Skye and enjoying it- though not so much the weather! If you live here then go and eat here! If you don’t and are on holiday- go and eat here! You will not be disappointed!

We arrived in different times - no covid last time. The menu seemed slightly smaller and a few things weren't available but frankly that is a good thing. they had run out because peopoe are going out again. We were a large party and had to sit in two groups to comply with covid regulations. This was fine because we had emailed ahead and had been told about their arrangments. During our week long holiday on Skye we have come across differing interpretations of the rules so I would recommend ringing or emailing ahead of visiting anywhere in case their rules are too oppresive or confusing. The food we had was absolutely fine in quality but some of the portion sizes were confusing ie. a childs portion of macaroni cheese was larger than an adult portion of lasagne. The venison burger was very good and the curry was a surprise in that it was small but very good for a bar meal. The staff worked very hard and were quite attentive especially considering the difficult circumstances covid creates. An added advantage to eating here was that we managed to prolong our visit with a few games of pool afterwards. All in all a good experience.

Ate here the other week. Overall as the heading states, it was ok. Good service overall. No cask ale which is always disappointing in a pub. Salmon special was good, fish & chips were poor, haddock had been completely over deep fried. The overall internal decor was poor compared to cracking job they’ve done on the externals. Lights on full brightness in the evening, lacking atmosphere with no candles, light dimming etc. I hope this business ends up doing well, but at the moment it’s just a bit average.

We were staying really close to the Ardvasar for a few days in August. The outside is beautiful and I was really excited that it would be our local for the week. Unfortunately the inside lets it down. Instead of the couthy highland pub I was expecting it's more of a sports bar.Huge TV which was on all the time. We asked for it to be turned off as no-one was watching it. Apparently it could only be turned down! It put people off and limited where people could sit...we saw two groups come in amd leave without staying for a drink because the only tables available were under the TV. It's a shame...a good bothy pub should be for a bit of banter between locals and tourists.Keep the TV for the big sporting events and the place would be much better. We only visited once because of the lack of atmosphere.Shame because they have a good range of local beers,a very good draught cider and friendly staff.

When we arrived the restaurant had 2 more tables of guests. When I asked the waiter for a whine list, he asked me if I want a red one or a white one, after he told me which sorts he had. Meanwhile, for the other table he picked four bottles of red wine and showed them all including a detailed explanation. I ordered a starter and my husband a main course. I received my starter half an hour before he received his main course. All other guests received their main courses before him (he had fish and chips) though we ordered first. A recent meal was very disappointing - there is no excuse for a Skye hotel to use fish and meat from local sources. Not a good advert for the hotel having the large chain suppliers parked outside. Would improve with local staff, and management who cared about repeat trade, and had not alienated most of the local residents. Really look forward to the revival of the hotel under new management

Prior to and during our booking, our host Richard was unbelievably helpful and attentive to our every need. We enjoyed having pre drinks in the cosy lounge/bar and the staff and locals were so friendly that we immediately felt at home. Whether staying at the hotel or just using the bar and restaurant, we would highly recommend you step through these doors and experience the wonderful hospitality of the Ardvasar Hotel.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with a friend. Nice and clean and comfortable. Homely cooking. Hotel overlooks the sea towards Mallaig.

Our second visit this trip to dine at the Ardvasar Hotel and it never fails to please. The hotel is the hub of Ardvasar and the guests are always a delightful mixture of 'locals' and visitors from near and far so lots of interesting conversations.Richard and his Staff - Donald and Kenny as well as the Kitchen team - will look after you. Dear Pixie recently had an accident but I'm pleased to say that her command and patrol over the restaurant has not lessened!!!

The Village of Ardvasar is very limited in respect to places to have an evening meal while staying at one of the local B&B's but the Ardvasar Hotel Restaurant was recommended by our B&B as a good place to eat. Our B&B host made a reservation for us. We walked the short distance to the restaurant as parking in the village is limited and when we arrived the restaurant host welcomed us and immediately provided us with a table. The dining area is separate from the public bar (which is great) so it was quiet. The menu was simple, the food was good and was served hot and in a timely fashion. The decor and set up of table is very basic and typical of a small Scottish village.

Another visit to the Ardvasar Hotel, but just for Supper this time. Excellent selection of food available and the swift and efficient service during these busy times of the year is commendable.A super atmosphere here enhanced by the presence of Pixie! So worth a visit.

We were staying in somewhere else in Ardvasar which is pretty limited in terms of eating out, especially if you want to leave the car and have a couple of drinks with your meal. we ate there twice - once by booking, the other as a walk in - but on both occasions the hotel restaurant was welcoming very welcoming. Although not outstanding, our food was good, hot and in generous portions. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Prices seemed a little high by mainland standards, but the slight extra was worth it for the convenience of being able to walk.Overall I'd rate this as "good" but Trip Advisor has nothing between average and very good.

I'm afraid our experience here was very poor. The food was fine but it was massively overpriced (£16.50 for a very standard chicken breast with haggis). Frankly, I felt robbed when paying for it.But what was worse was the service, specifically from the man who appeared to be 'the boss', the two young members of staff were very pleasant.I had a very minor complaint, that my pint of lager was flat, and was not impressed at all by the way it was handled. His attitude was awful. He was arrogant and argumentative. For example, instead of simply apologising that he'd given me a filthy glass with the bottle of beer I eventually got he argued that it was actually clean, apparently the greasy residue inside the glass (which he acknowledged was there) didn't count because the glass had been through the washer.A minor complaint like I originally made should never end with a disgruntled customer writing a poor review. A minor complaint is a chance to show just how good a host you are, and why it's worth paying over the odds for the food to be in your restaurant. That chance was totally missed tonight and I won't be back.

Back again at The Ardvasar Hotel on Skye and another super experience. This part of Skye is truly delightful and the hotel is only 6 or 7 minutes from Armadale with access to Mallaig on the Ferry.Beautiful views from the front facing rooms and I feel quite confident to say that your visit here will be really enjoyable. The Restaurant and Bar seem always to be full of friendly folk, locals and visitors alike.Excellent food served here with very large portions so beware and make sure you plan a little exercise afterwards! Richard and his Staff work very hard to ensure that all visitors are well looked after.

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

The fab cinnamon buns elevated our coffee stop from great to awesome! Other really yummy cakes are available. Oh, and the vegan tomato pizza swirl looked great too if you fancy a savoury.

A total shambles. Sunday carvery .couldn't eat any of the meat as mostly fat.Plates so small you can't get much else on the plate.waitress saw me trying to catch her attention and hid .eventually came over sheepish with bill and at that point looked at all the fatty meat on plate and her response was sorry about that .we then never say any staff .They had vanished into kitchen .On our way out there was a lady who had mobility issues annoyed there was no disabled access just a set of very steep stairs .£24 each for 2 courses and only starter choice was soup.Dont waste your time .
