After a day visiting family, we stopped here for dinner. We were made very welcome, and provided us with a excellent meal. Cost was reasonable, portion size generous, and we really enjoyed the meals.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.

Lovely place with a view. Food was lovely; the staff happily met my request to have poached eggs adding to my meal from the menu. Definitely the best Mocha I have tasted!

Been here twice now, and on both occasions the food has been delicious. It’s seriously the nicest pizza I’ve had, alongside the sides and dips. Really nice, authentic style pizza. On this occasion however, the customer service was really slow and we did feel completely ignored. We got seated straight away which was good. The waiter seeing to us was clearly new, so was confused when taking our cocktail orders, which was fine, not an issue. Food ordered, great. From then on it was really not great. Only one cocktail came, and the manager himself (Italian gent?) brought the second out, and apologised. This was fine. When it came to us finishing our food, we were left waiting a really long time. We did want to take some leftovers home, and order more drinks and dessert and kept trying to catch the attention of staff but they did not seem to walk by us. In the 40 minutes roughly we waited after finishing our meals, the waitress had seen to the table next to us four times, and ignored us. Brought their food over, then, came back asked if they wanted anything else, then to bring them their second drinks, then to finally clear their table, despite being 30 minutes behind us. The waiter had also been by us 3 times and did not see to us. I’d give this place a second chance on account of the quality of food, but really hoping it’s better service next time. Appreciate people are new and perhaps not as attentive which I’d always give space for, but in those cases the manager could ensure that all tables are being seen to. We left and didn’t get to take any food back as our lift had been waiting a long time by this point and just wanted to go. The manager did apologise for the time waiting for our drinks, which I appreciated, but this was way less time than the 40 minutes we had been ignored for, after finishing our food.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

The soup is delicious. Volunteers are very welcoming. Can highly recommend for a light lunch. Everything is freshly made.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We stayed at the camp site next door so came here for some tea , a few tables in the windows were reserved ,so sat further back , we ordered at the bar and the was quite shocked at the managers attitude but passed this off , we were with fiends one of whom was quite deft , so in the middle of his phone call the manager came over and asked us to keep the noise down !! Ordered food which was very over priced and quite awful !! Before we left the manager took the reserved signs off the tables in the window which annoyed me as no one had even sat in them !! The manager needs to get another job as his hospitality skills are none existent!! Who give this man a customer based job ! Felt sorry for the 2 young bar staff as he was the Same to them !! I have worked in a lot of hospitality jobs and this man’s attitude and customer skills are none existent !!!!!

Unfortunately yet again The Peddler has been let down by the same rude member of staff that we have dealt with a few times. We were greeted by this lady shouting from across the room asking how many seats we need. When it was explained there would be 4 adults and room for two prams the waitress looked disgusted and barely checked before telling us they couldn’t accommodate us. The restaurant was empty and there was ample room for prams around all tables. The attitude of this member of stuff is always disgraceful, and everything seems to be too much of an ask. We’ve been to The Peddler numerous times and we will not be returning which is a shame as one person has ruined the reputation. Nearly £100 spent elsewhere.

We stopped at the Queens for dinner whilst in St Bees. It’s dog friendly in the bar area where we were seated. Our food arrived promptly. Unfortunately both of our plates were filled with inedible hand cut chips which were soggy and unappetising. Seasoning did not improve these chips either. We both left the chips virtually untouched. Our daughter opted for a small plate of chicken bites which were overly crispy. The service was not over friendly or welcoming. The interactions with the server were functional but far from engaging. We would be highly unlikely to revisit the Queens if we were back in the area. A very disappointing first experience of hospitality in the area.
