Not keen on this venue. Not very welcoming and the interior was a mix of cafe and pub. This place had an odd atmosphere. Pedigree available on tap but didn’t taste great. Dogs are welcome though.

We stopped at the Queens for dinner whilst in St Bees. It’s dog friendly in the bar area where we were seated. Our food arrived promptly. Unfortunately both of our plates were filled with inedible hand cut chips which were soggy and unappetising. Seasoning did not improve these chips either. We both left the chips virtually untouched. Our daughter opted for a small plate of chicken bites which were overly crispy. The service was not over friendly or welcoming. The interactions with the server were functional but far from engaging. We would be highly unlikely to revisit the Queens if we were back in the area. A very disappointing first experience of hospitality in the area.

Didn’t get to stay here because of electrical problems but will never use Booking.com again. I had booked this hotel (through Booking .com) because my family had organised a meal there that night. When I arrived at my sister’s, she informed me that the meal had been cancelled because the hotel was having electrical problems. I rang to see if they were still taking guests and was advised that they were although breakfast would now be cereal and toast due to the problems being with kitchen fans. The landlord did not accept that as enough reason to cancel and told Booking .Com to charge the cancellation fee of £49 (50% of the total bill). I tried to contact Booking.com but couldn’t find the phone number so I resorted to asking on their X (formerly known as Twitter) profile if anyone had a number for them. Here the situation changes from inconvenient to catastrophic. Someone contacted me via the message purporting to be from Booking.com and proceeded to access my bank account and try to empty it. They managed to get £49 before I realised what was going on and declined 4 further attempts to take money from my account. I do not know how they got my bank details (Presumably from Booking.com) but I have had no cooperation or support from Booking.com to investigate the matter. If you search for Booking .com on X, the site I found is the only thing that comes up and you can still see posts there from all the people who have been scammed by them. Booking.com are the only ones who can stop this but show no interest in doing so. My advice - never give your bank card details to Booking.com. You don’t know where they’ll end up.

I visited the pub on a Saturday afternoon mid July of 2019.I was apaled by how a village pub, would allow the place to turn into a scene of drunken yobbery. I witnessed a large group of men spraying beer over the buffet a private group had set up in an area of the beer garden.I could hear glasses getting broken all the time as a large proportion of the people there were litteraly legless, falling down drunk. The final straw for me was a drunk at the bar who again had to be held up by his so called friends as he could not stand unaided, as he was so drunk. At one point had his head on the bar, but when his friends went to order him more shots, the bar staff gladly served the group.A lady even pointed this out to a man who I believed to be the landlord, but the drinks were still served l. I found the whole atmosphere to be awful and more like a city Centre boozer, than a quiet country pub.The staff are there to control such behavior, but their actions seemed to encourage it. I will never visit this pub again.

I am sorry but I can’t believe the chef thinks that in this day and age it is acceptable to serve smash and frozen carrots with a £13.95 lamb shank meal. Portion size of said smash was large and the staff seemed friendly enough so if you like reconstituted potato, go for it. Also strange was the fact that the person taking the booking insisted they could only fit us in at 6pm as they were busy but by 7.30 on a bank holiday Saturday 70% of the seats were free.

We watched the dray men spend a couple of hours delivering new kegs in the afternoon, so you can imagine our surprise when at least two of the ales were 'finished' by 7pm. Judging by the surliness of the staff, they were probably too lazy to change a barrel. There were works leaving 'do's on so the place was busy and the background music was excellent. So, other than unfriendly staff we enjoyed the place.

A few years ago the queens would be our ‘go-to’ pub. It used to have a brilliant atmosphere with friendly staff. Having been a few times recently I can safely say it is not what it used to be, the pub is no where near as busy and the owner was incredibly rude when I was leaving the building as he stood outside with a cigarette. We had to wait 20 mins to be served at the bar because there was one poor girl left on her own serving while the owners sat nearby with a drink. (Don’t get me wrong I’m sure they deserve a night off as much as anyone but surely a little bit of help wouldn’t have gone wrong). Won’t be returning, don’t appreciate being spoken to so rudely.

Fantastic meal and friendly staff at the Queens this evening. Very much to be recommended. Our party of 3 had a baked camembert and a piri piri hummous as a starter which we all shared which were both great followed by a steak, a burger and a salmon salad as main course which were all excellent. Fantastically friendly staff and very good value we will definitely return when next in the area . Many thanks for a great meal.

Arriving early at the pub/restaurant, we availed of a nice beverage - good beer for the OH and nice wine for myself and aunt. The bartender advised as soon as we asked about food that dinner is available after 1800, and that evening, was a curry night. None of which was a drama for us.

Our family of three peckish walkers on a local coast and village walk discovered the hotel at lunchtime on Sunday. The bearded man in charge of the bar made efforts to answer our (sorry, the wife's) idiosyncratic menu questions and happily adapted the printed menu to accommodate her. When the food arrived it was good quality and clearly fresh - a nice selection of several fresh salad leaves in my wife's tuna salad (minus baguette as she requested!), a lovely basket of hand cut freshly cooked chips for the daughter, and tasty onion rings with sweet chilli sauce for the bill payer. Good quality, we thought. We'd eat lunch there again happily.

Booked here last minute after another place cancelled on us. It was my birthday lunch whilst on holiday in the area. So glad they did as this place was far superior. Really friendly staff, great menu and food with a really good vibe. Loads of room around tables and dog friendly. Parked in Tesco free for 2 hours.

The Bridge cafe in Millom has a sign advising that it has temporarily closed down. To be honest, having looked through the window it doesn’t look as though it’s likely to reopen anytime soon. The Trackside on the station is a fantastic alternative.

If You want to sit down and have a coffee and they tell you, "Our dishwasher is broken, we will give you coffee in a plastic cup." and this has been happening for the last 5 on and off months. The tables are not cleaned. If you want to sit and have a coffee. usually clean your table yourself.

Excellent food and service, highly recommended. Steve and his team served up an absolutely gorgeous lunch for our Christmas Church meal.
