On holiday in the Lake District and on a rainy Thirsday we looked for somewhere with history to visit and Whitehaven was our destination. On arrival, before looking about, we found an independent coffee shop, Cross's Coffee shop, which we now recommend to anyone visiting the town. The facility very comfortable, the staff very kind and friendly and the drinks/snacks top of the bill !! Fab coffee, fab hot chocolate and the flapjacks..oozing with syrup. Our teacake was delicious and the supporting currant slice.. just like me Mam used to make..excellent ! Any time in Whitehaven, relax yourself at this exceptional coffee facility !!

I wanted to like this venue more than I did. The coffee was hot and very nice, but not large. The toastie was full of meat filling but it was a burnt toast sandwich not sealed. The menu was simple, flexible but limited and not all prices were fully displayed. Plus you had to look at the walls and stare at other tables and customers. It was a big venue and simply decorated. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The price was average, not expensive. Overall it was alright, I just wanted a bit more finesse. This is classed as the best coffee shop in Whitehaven and the customers were friendly and charmingly local. I just think Whitehaven should expect a little bit more.

This is the most authentic, friendly, clean and efficient cafe in the town of Whitehaven, now run by a third generation. Don't expect haute cuisine, but you'll get smiles, good Northern food, cleanliness, and fair prices. Full of local customers who knew each other and were happy to share some craic on a snowy morning. The only place to visit!

I visited Cross's Cafe for the first time in many years and was impressed. Low prices, friendly service and a very clean environment were big selling points to me. Also the cafe is very spacious inside. so you won't struggle to find a table. £ 5.30 for a large cappucino and cheese on toast is very reasonable these days and the cappucino was beautiful. Next time I should try one of their paninis, which a customer rated very highly, and at £ 4.80 won't break the bank.

What a fantastic place, my daughter (3) and I popped in today for some lunch, food and drinks were great but it was the friendly atmosphere - staff and customers alike that will definitely see us returning. My little girl loved it. (Apple pie and custard was easily a 10/10!)

Devine- the ham was toothsome and the bread was a working class portrait of joy. The tea was hot and was served in a hipster cup and plate which took my eyes from Whitehaven to a woke tea shop in London- would certainly recommend

I visited this coffee shop at lunchtime today. All social distancing rules were in place and everywhere very clean. Not busy so felt very safe. Staff were all lovely, polite and friendly. Best genuinely home made vegetable soup I've had in a cafe in a long, long time. Highly recommend.

The service here is always excellent and the food is homemade, reasonably priced and tasty. I hadn't been in here for several months due to the lock down but when I walked in I was recognized and my favoured option remembered. You don't get that sort of service in many places.

Ive banged on before about how good this 'Laal" cafè is BUT The Best Just Got A Little Bit Better. As well as a better, more imaginative menu there is now the option to pay by card (contactless/chip and pin) and free wifi available for customers. A traditional town cafe just a few yards off the main drag with toilet facilities available for customers (only) selling a great selection of proper teas and coffee, sandwiches/cakes/soup/toasties/salads etc...... Brilliant banter and some interesting characters.......worth a try

Siempre viene y me dice no he cambiado un poco! Dios bendiga al hombre. Él es una leyenda.

Called in for Saturday lunch. My other half likes to have a breakfast (full English), but cross' s just seem to do sandwiches. We ordered 2 bacon toasties (told they didnt do bacon on toast, just toasted sandwiches or bread?), 1 bacon on bread and 1 ham, cheese and onion toastie. Small tea, 2 mugs of beautiful milky coffee and a chocolate milk shake. The young lad serving was pleasant enough, weirdly there were no prices on the menu (that wasnt offered by the staff but pointed out by another customer) and at a cost of almost £18 we won't be returning in a hurry for toasties. :-(

We visited here while on a day trip to Whitehaven and me and my family had a great time with all the banter and laughs that the regulars were having with the staff it was like being in a sitcom, everyone obviously knew each other well which was a good sign for a local Cafe we had good coffee and sandwiches and would not hesitate to go there again when we go back to whitehaven. All in all a pleasurable experience

Used this cafe all my life and was very unhappy when my grand daughter wanted a glass of water, and was told no she couldn't have one, cans of pop or nothing! The food although limited is good but the owner is very grumpy with staff and customers alike. Not what I call a good atmosphere.

Lovely pub to go for a drink. Only pub close to where we were staying. No food served here. Dog friendly. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Close to request stop railway station. Open 2pm til pub empty. Makes sence. Friendly people.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.
