I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

Expensive food and no better than wetherspoons. Presentation non-existent. As the saying goes 'if you don't ask you don't get' - well even when you ask here you don't get.

We made a last minute reservation for a business dinner for four people and we weren't disappointed with the food which was outstanding but running commentary from the kitchen which we endured throughout dinner was very disappointing and not necessary. On arriving and whilst waiting for our guests we were shown to a drawing room which looked as if it had been recently renovated which was delightful. Our guests arrived and we were given menus and the Chef came out and told us about his specials which all sounded wonderful. Orders taken, we were then seated in the restaurant and shortly afterwards our starters were served by the waitress and Chef with a commentary from him of what we were about to eat, the Chef then came out again to check we were happy with our starters which I must add were delicious and empty plates went back to the kitchen he then came out again and asked if we enjoyed the starter. Our mains were served by both the waitress and the chef who again told us about what we were about to eat, he then came out again whilst we were eating to see if all was well with our meals - I must add again the food was absolutely delicious and empty plates went back to the kitchen. Before we gave our order to the waitress the Chef came out again to tell us about the Lemon tart recipe etc and then the waitress came and took the order. Desserts were delivered by both the Chef and Waitress and again we were told about the desserts and he then came out again to ask if we enjoyed the desserts. The running commentary from the chef throughout the meal had now for me become very uncomfortable and especially for our potential clients. I am the first to say the food we ate was outstanding and I applaud your chef and his passion which he obviously wants to share, however we were paying customers having a business dinner with potential clients and to be interrupted at least 5-6 times at least by a chef just isn't acceptable in any restaurant. I would also add that the restaurant only had 3 other tables of diners so was not overly busy. Would we come back yes the food was delicious but I would suggest less conservation with diners from the kitchen once specials have been explained and orders have been placed. I have put service as poor as the constant interruptions spoilt our business dining experience. Yours sincerely Bernie Maloney

From the first warm welcome to the crisp just perfectly chilled Chardonnay I knew instinctively we had dropped on a winner and boy had we. The food is gorgeous, the presentation a visual delight. The Chef Damian one to watch on the ascent. Had a glorious evening beautifully guided by our hostess Jane, who’s driving motivation was to ensure we had a rich night, abundant with hospitality and fantastically well executed food

Went for a family meal and we were absolutely amazed and surprised at the quality of food and service provided. Contributed by an absolutely beautiful building and grounds. Owner allowed us to have a look around the rooms and they have kept the style of the place in the rooms including for poster beds etc. Rooms are on the very large size and well presented. Held my sister's baby shower here with 32 guests. Venue ideal. Had dining area to ourselves and were able to have lounge/reception area available when guests arrived. Afternoon tea was lovely, nice mix or savoury and sweet treats and nothing too much effort for the staff. Communication from booking to date of baby shower was great. On the day, we were even given a spreadsheet they had created to help collect monies taking into account those who wanted prosecco, those who had extra drinks and those who had paid deposits. Met our needs in terms of dietary requirements too. Thanks for a perfect afternoon!

We were staying in the hall overnight so decided to eat in the restaurant. We arrive 15 minutes before dinner and had drinks in the lounge. Dinner was a 3 course meal which was pre booked beforehand. Hubby had the herb and cheese fritter cakes, seafood medley and the apple tartlet. I had the broccoli and stilton soup, tomato and basil risotto and the fresh fruit salad with champagne sorbet. The food was fresh and tasty and the cheese bread was really nice. We bought a bottle of sauvignon Blanc NZ wine at around £20 a bottle. Meal was £32.50 for 3 courses on the Friday night.

After loosing my husband 6 months ago I needed to get away from home. Saw Moresby Hall. Jane was so helpful even before my stay with places I might like to visit. When I arrived I was welcomed by David. My room was one of the biggest room I have stayed in. Even though they where not cooking on the Friday night they did me a wonderful meet plater salad. The breakfast was the best I have had and on hot place which makes all the difference, your food is still hot to the last mouthful. The evening meal on Saturday I could not fault and again on very hot plates. 😀 I Needed to make some of my own memories and Jane and David have help me make some great ones. I will be coming again and would highly recommend. Thank you Jane and David Sarah

Arrived at Moresby Hall in the middle of Storm Frank. Horrendous weather. We were greeted at the door by Jane the owner who thanked us for still travelling. Once inside the open fire was roaring. Wow. Instantly felt the owners had gone the extra mile to make our visit special. There was complimentary wine and chocolates. Fab touch. Our room the Copeland was huge and very well equipped. The bed was probably the most comfortable I've slept in. The food was also outstanding. The dinner was home cooked and full of taste. Delicious. Again the breakfast was outstanding. Fresh fruit salad followed by full cooked breakfast !!! No need to eat all day after this. There was plenty of choice. The hall is a spectacular building full of character and charm. This is also the home of the owners Jane and David who take pride in all they do. Nothing is too much trouble. Really enjoyed our chat over drinks and meeting their dog Maxwell. ( who is not allowed amongst the guests ) but is a star. You must ask to see him. We will definitely return. Loved the whole experience

This is my 2nd visit to Moresby Hall. Each time I've been allocated a large suite with a 4 poster bed. Moresby is a Grade 1 listed building - lots of character & history. On this occasion I had a jacuzzi spa bath with a TV at the end of the bath. The owners/hosts - Jane & David - are lovely - very friendly & welcoming. The food is all home cooked & freshly prepared. About as relaxing & enjoyable a stay as a working week can be!

Friendly hosts as always. Outside the hotel matches it's haunted reputation but once inside the welcome is warm and surprisingly modern in a building dating back to the 1100's. Including free wifi. Lots of character and superb dining. Worth a visit any day of the week.

The couple who run it are lovely, nothing is too much trouble, friendly relaxed atmosphere but treat us like royalty. the food was amazing and really reasonable. Love that you are the guests for the night, there is only one sitting and you can enjoy without being rushed out for next people. Amazing place to go for special occasion

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

Lovely pub to go for a drink. Only pub close to where we were staying. No food served here. Dog friendly. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Close to request stop railway station. Open 2pm til pub empty. Makes sence. Friendly people.
