My wife and I ate here on a busy Saturday night and the following Sunday. Staff were very friendly and service was very good, we did not have long to wait for the freshly prepared food, from a menu that catered for most tastes. The surroundings were clean, pleasant and relaxing in this traditional Inn. All dishes were well presented and tasted lovely. Brook house Inn ticked all our boxes, we won't hesitate to eat here again when in the area.

Visited for lunch after trip on Ravenglass Railway. As soon as we walked through the door we were warmly welcomed by the 2 young ladies serving and allocated a table. Very warm and friendly and we enjoyed a super meal and some excellent local ales. Exactly how a traditional pub should be. Highly recommended.

Visited here this weekend as part of a group of 12 (6 adults & 6 kids). We were greeted by a very friendly young barman & subsequently another couple of barmaids. In fact every member of staff was incredibly pleasant & friendly & nothing was too much trouble. The drinks prices were very reasonable (£13 for 2 pints & 2 half lemonades) and there was a good choice of local ales. The menu was small but this generally indicates that what they do serve is going to be of good quality- and we were right. It's very rare for all 12 of us to go somewhere (which we do regularly) & every one of us throughly enjoy what we have. There's usually at least one disappointing meal amongst us but on this occasion every plate was cleaned, including desserts! Overall a memorable experience & we look forward to visiting again.

The best “pub meal” I have had in a VERY long time. Delicious food (the best chips ever!) and really friendly staff. We booked as a group of 16 - 8 adults and 8 children. Fantastic service, delicious food, hearty portions and very reasonably priced for the quality! Will definitely be back!

I called in on Sunday afternoon to ask about a table for that night and they said they could squeeze me in - it was just me (and my dog) I arrived at 7 and was greeted and shown my table - it was quite close to the front door which was wide open, so not very warm, and a bit isolated, but I often get that with a table for one! I order 2 starters instead of a main course, had the scallops and then black pudding tower. The service was great, all the staff were very friendly and efficient. The pub was clearly very busy with lots of people eating, but the food came out quickly. I had sticky toffee pudding (I asked for custard) and it was exactly how I like it - a big bowl of sauce! I had a chat with one of the women about possibly staying at the inn, which was all going well until she said they don't allow dogs. But if I stay in the area again I'll definitely go back there for food again.

I'd booked a table during my two night stay at Woolpack Farm, about a 15 minute walk away. I got a very warm welcome from the guy serving that night. As a solo traveller in particular, it was great to be asked about my day, what my plans were, if I liked the beer, etc. The beer was great by the way! With this, I had a really nice beef and beer pie, and the service was very friendly throughout. Nice spot to have a drink outside too...when it's warm enough!!

Open Wednesday to Sunday we were disappointed not to eat here sooner, the staff do deserve a day off so I’m not complaining. We were given a lovely welcome and made ourselves comfortable. The menu was varied and quite reasonable in price. I opted for the Easter menu, Brill on leeks and courgettes with daulphinoise potatoes and cream and tarragon sauce. The fish was light and delicious, I had never eaten brill before and I was weary, however, the dish was perfect in all its flavours, husband had the pie and throughly enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly. Quite a busy place with tables being filled quickly. The staff work really hard here, that doesn’t detract from the friendliness or service. Can’t wait to return and sample many other dishes.

Just had two starters and a bowl of chips for lunch as we weren´t that hungry! Even less hungry afterwards and I didn´t eat again afterwards. The other half did have C&B later admittedly but after his amazing cheese and black pudding stack he was just being greedy! I had the scallops with lemon and garlic cheese sauce. OMG! I had to lick the shells!! Fabulous service and exceptionally friendly staff. Which we must admit applied to all the Boot hostelries!

Special occasion following a ride on the La'al Ratty train, with two sets of grandparents, two middle-aged parents and a 7 year old who hadn't all been together in years. Several omnivorous, one vegan. Delicious, well-presented food all round - we had sunday roast beef, lamb, chestnut mushroom crumble, broccoli & smoked cheddar soup, pear & stilton salad. Desserts also very good, between us we tried the majority. The side veg were the best I've ever seen in a pub - a mix of roasted beetroot, parsnip, courgette and broccoli. Well worth the trip and the booking.

A group of 5 of us had booked a table for the first night of Boot Beer Festival, there was a great band on, the food was good and there were some interesting beers, all of which were ordered at the Bar, with table service for the food. However when the bill for the food came there were drinks added at the top, 2 of which were ciders, totalling about £20 The member of staff who dealt with the bill insisted that they had been served to us at the table, I explained that we had paid for all our drinks at the bar and no-one had had cider. This sometimes happens in pubs, and in my experience has always been resolved without fuss and on good terms, so I offered to pay the ~ £100 for the food plus a £10 tip, but she insisted we paid for the drinks we had not had, and swore she had served them to us at the table. Although a separate group had morphed onto out table none of us had recollection of them having drinks served either. She discussed it with a colleague and then they walked off and ignored us. In the end we paid for our individual meals and she turned the table by accusing us of being aggressive. No, just accept the error, it happens. If we had wanted to diddle them we would have just left without paying for anything. Well there are plenty of options in Eskdale.

We sat outside watching people climb the hills up to the ridge, the sun was shining and it was wonderful to see people out enjoying themselves. Good selection of beers on tap , I enjoyed a Lakes gin.We are both lactose intolerant and after informing the waitress, she checked with the kitchen that the food we ordered was OK and it was. I had Cumberland sausage with new potatoes, fresh vegetables of green cabbage, leeks and peas. All delicious, the only small criticism would be that the gravy could have been thicker, perhaps some fried onions added and caramelised for extra taste. Would highly recommend lunch here.

Was recommended by a friend and we were lucky to get a table outside in the sun. Great steak pie and lovely fresh vegetables. Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, we will be back.

Great as always, food great, staff great and of course the beer was too.Couldn't fault the measures that had been put in place at this strange time, one way system, hand sanitisers everywhere. Tables in the bar were cleaned as soon as they were vacated, ready for the next customers. Toilets spotless, as always.Felt very safe, as it was our first time eating out during this covid time!!We were there for 3 nights and wished we'd booked for the longer, weather was great and we managed to get two good walks in.Many thanks to The Thornley Family.....we'll be back.sue & Jon Coleman

My Husband booked this lovely pub for an overnight stay on our Honeymoon. Lovely customer service, tasty food and nice room with big bath. We particularly appreciated the views from our bedroom which included sheep and of course, the brook. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub to go for a drink. Only pub close to where we were staying. No food served here. Dog friendly. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Close to request stop railway station. Open 2pm til pub empty. Makes sence. Friendly people.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.
