Such a shame to find this iconic traditional hostelry is still closed. Fantastic interior, great beer and great food. Sam Smiths pubs are always very well kept and this was always a destination pub whenever we visited the Fylde. We've now moved into the area so we're really hoping it will reopen soon.

Incredible. This place was breathtaking. Came on the weekend and would definitely recommend it. Can’t fault the staff at all, lovely new owners who truly are rays of sunshine.😘☀️ The food was spectacular, extremely flavourful and hearty. I had the lamb rogan josh, it was gorgeous!! 10/10🐑🥘While they have not been open for very long I really commend this place for turning it over from the last owners…👏👏👏 seems to be my go to for a good drink or even an Indian! 😉

Just passing by and called in for a drink & snack. Ended up with a lovely cream cheese & smoked salmon bagel and ham & cheese toasty on seeded brown bread with mixed salad and coleslaw. The large Merlot complemented it very well! 🤣 Staff are lovely and so very accommodating. A great place with a lovely ambience. We’ll definitely come back 😊

Margarine response !!!!!!! Ummmmm... That a very interesting (and clever) response to my review listed below! Firstly, I never mentioned the sandwich on that visit. I just left most of it, as I suspected margarine. Not sure how your staff will have recollected the interaction on that visit!! Secondly, it was only on our subsequent visit I then asked if it was margarine they used on sandwiches, as was going to try another. The waitress replied that it was, so I said ‘Ok, ill order something else then” there was no offer of butter........ Not sure how a staff member would also have recollected that interaction........ Thirdly…. Why would I have Margarine if I was offered butter ….. Finally…. I think my review history will demonstrate the fairness and integrity of my reviews…. I think your response raises questions other than just the margarine issue.... but I’m sure other viewers will read into it what they will .....!

The restaurant website menus were all disabled except for the Christmas menu. No worries, it has a good selection. Arriving at 6pm Sunday it was already busy but not full. We were soon shown to a table in a pleasant dining area. Large table, lots of room. So far so good. We elected to have the traditional Christmas dinner. The service was fast so all items must have been available ready to serve. I admit to being underwhelmed when it arrived, the turkey was in thin round slices so looked processed though probably wasn’t? The ‘pigs in blankets’ were pig in blanket and a piglet at that. My wife’s piglet was devoid of bacon. Stuffing was a tiny round sat on the meat. What I thought was cranberry sauce was a 4 tiny berry garnish. The real disappointment though were the vegetables. They came on a small side dish - to share! We’ve been told spouts had a bumper crop this year but I got two HALVES of a sprout! Oh dear. A few sliced carrots and parsnips completed the veg on the plate. Roast potatoes were quite nice though could have been warmer. Gravy was already oh the plates. No gravy boat or vessel provided. The whole thing had the look of an economy version of a Christmas dinner, but at 17 quid plus it’s not cheap! The deserts though were good quality and generous portions so a nice finish. Service was patchy and we had to gee it along from time to time though they were quite busy to be fair. All in all though it was so uninspiring, almost perfunctory, though I know it’s tough work in restaurants this time of year this is a rather poor standard and makes me glad Christmas Day will be at home.

I haven't visited Dace for quite a while (probably pre covid) - it was good to see that the same lovely family are still in charge, although I felt ancient when I realised the two 'boys' are now adults! However I just want to mention that the service was great as always, lovely coffee, pot of tea and my mum's scone was excellent. The star of the show was the brownie - I have honestly never tasted better - so a big thank you to Theo, the creator of the Dace brownie which made my day. It really was better than Chris's (and Theo didn't tell me to say that) It was great to rediscover this family run establishment - pop in, you won't be disappointed!

On a typical Lake District evening what are you looking for in a pub? This certainly hit the spot … a roaring log burner, a warm welcome with a mix of locals and visitors, good beer and excellent food - tasty, good quality and hearty portions. Travelling alone you always end up talking to those around you and they were similarly enjoying the beer and the food. It’s certainly dog friendly too with water bowls and towels to dry them when you arrive … before they hog the log burner. I gather this has been newly taken on by a family and I wish them well. Certainly I hope it thrives so I can return whenever I am breaking my journey at Shap - which is v convenient just off the M6.

Food absolutely vile asked for pizza got a cheese bake which was battered and absolute slop asked for 2 sausage rolls which tasted like the stuff they clean there trays with and also got a cheese and ham baguette to be given the cheapest cheese on the planet....... Thought I'd give this place another chance considering the first time comming here food was cold and when put the sausage roll in microwave started smoking and went black smelling like urnt plastic GRIM is a understatement 6 pound down the drain

He querido llegar aquí por siglos y después de una noche muy tarde, su increíble cubo de tostadas francesas me fijó totalmente. Es inmenso, ridículamente dulce y exactamente lo que se necesitaba. Tengo algunas rosquillas y una galleta para llevar a casa también y les cayó bien a mi familia. El personal era encantador y servicial también. Definitivamente volveré la próxima vez en Manchester (necesito uno de los sándwiches de huevo la próxima vez! )

This hotel in Shap is just perfect. The food, drink, rooms and staff are all amazing. The staff go out the way to help you and all make you feel at home. The beds are so comfortable and the whole place is very clean.

Lovely local pub, was a shame about miss moody in the corner who had a little rant about us being a little jolly but good pints and nice owners
