I visited the Pavillion cafe on Sunday for some lunch. I have a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis) and therfore made the server aware when ordering our food. I asked for the fish and chips and she seemed very unsure so went to check with the kitchen which was good. After making me aware that nuts were used in the kitchen however were not used in any of the fryers I decided to go ahead with the order. However, before our food arrived she came back over to ask if I had my epipen on me which obviously made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe eating there. Therefore, when the food arrived I didn’t feel safe to eat it and had to give it to my partner. As an allergy sufferer I was very disappointed in the handling of the situation as every restaurant/cafe I have visited in recent years have been very educated on allergies and have been very reassuring and taken it seriously: checking if anyone has any allergies on ordering, providing ingredient lists and making staff aware which meals need to be prepared with more care etc. I am only writing this review in the hope that staff here become better trained on how to handle customers with allergies as I feel they were not at the standard they should be. I do not want to but a negative view on the cafe as the food looked lovely and my partner did enjoy the food.

My family of 6 decided it would be nice to meet up for lunch and chose The Pavilion as our venue. We arrived at 12:30 and there were a couple of tables of people in front of us. It was drizzling with rain and you have to queue outdoors, so not the best start. When it was our turn we were told all the tables for 6 were full. We asked is there a waiting list to which we were told no - you just have to wait or come back. As it was raining we asked when we should come back (as we thought a look around Shackleton would be nice) we were told an hour. So at 1:30 we went back and queue again to be told all the tables for 6 had filled again. So we asked can we get a table for 4 and a table for 2. We queued again and long story short - eventually around 2pm were allowed in the cafe and they put two tables together for us. Drinks order taken - great. Food order taken great (or so we thought). After about 45 minutes we were approached and told the tablet the order was taken on, had not sent it through to the kitchen!!!! Not so great! The order was then taken using good old paper and pen. To be fair we were given a complimentary round of drinks and our order was then prioritised and arrived within a reasonable timescale, given we all had something different to eat. Now on a very positive note the food and presentation was excellent. Good size portions, well cooked and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Once seated we were looked after by Andrea who quite honestly saved the day, she was very much customer focused and was a people person who wanted to give a good service. This was a complete contrast to the person who was managing the door and table allocation, who was quite abrupt and gave the impression that nothing was their fault and they could do no wrong. In summary, we can highly recommend the food but the system to getting to a table on a wet day just does not work. We all thought the Pavilion needs to rethink their waiting procedures. Invest in Restaurant Pagers and make a name list for tables or at least make a name list (not bothered they dont take actual bookings as I am sure people would let them down) but if you have arrived and are around and about it’s highly likely you really do want a table. Maybe even a tannoy system with a number being called when a table becomes available. I think they are also missing a trick, as if people had pagers or there was a tannoy then customers might go and brows around Shackletons and as a result some people might make spur of the moment purchases too. We also noted there were a number of elderly people queuing who were struggling to stand for such a long time and in the rain. We appreciate it was busy and they can’t control the weather, but with a little more thought and a slight adjustment here and there, our visit could have been be a much better experience.

Called in here on way home to Wales from Keighley, came in wrong door! met by two lovely young ladies who showed us to a table and took our drinks order. Lunch was an easy choice and we both had the small fish and chips. We didnt have to wait long and when the food arrived again served by a very friendly waitress we were not disappointed. Staff her are friendly and happy, food was resonably priced and tasted good, would recommend and if we are ever this way again will be sure to call in.

We have been coming here for years, and always looked forward to our visits. However, recently things have changed, but not favourably. No condiment on the tables, have to ask for extra sugar, coffee quality down graded, prices risen. All in all not the quality and value it used to be.

Wow is all I can say! I visited with my family for a Saturday lunch out and it was exceptional from start to finish. (That good we came back on Sunday!!) The food was incredible, super tasty and the cafe was packed - I can see why! We visited a couple of months ago and I can see they have made some changes and it’s refreshing to see with how fab the staff were and how we were served. It seems to be a lot more organised & efficient. 11/10 from us and we will definitely make it our go to place for a bite to eat/coffee or cake! Thank you so much to all of the staff for making it so lovely. Our no1 spot!

The restaurant in Shackleton's never disappoints. We go quite often for something to eat after visiting the shop. I had a very good toasted ciabatta with sausage, melted cheese and onion. My wife had a mushroom ciabatta and we shared some chips. Very tasty and good value

We visited here last Sunday, 11th December about 3pm on a Sunday. We were surprised it was quiet actually We were told to choose a seat by a very non plus looking waitress who then went to chat with the crowd of other bored looking waitresses near the counter! Despite there being a crowd of them it was almost impossible to get anyone’s attention! We ordered a ‘scoundrel’ cake which is like a large flat type of scone, and god was it dry ! Won’t be having one of them again anytime soon The pot of coffee for 2 was good as we got lots of cups of coffee out of it But oh my these girls looked fed up totally Perhaps not the right image they should be setting ?

Popped in after doing some early morning errands in Chatburn. The coffeehouse does open at 9 AM though on the doors it says 9:30, a bit confusing but it's definitely 9 AM Ordered the full English and a Vegetarian breakfast. Both plates came filled with freshly cooked food and tasty meats. It was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had in a while Little pricy at £11 but the money is worth it, can downgrade to a sandwich for only £5 if you only want something small Worth a visit for breakfast

I went on a wim having been decorating all weekend so Sunday afternoon late lunch and to look for garden furniture , found a window seat for 3 straight away and was offered drinks straight away which came promptly , food also came not long after , my club sandwich was very nice and I was full to burst after. My wife ordered a wild garlic and goats cheese tart accompanied with pea shoot salad but it came with just topped with pea shoots and no salad this was very disappointing although she enjoyed the tart , a ordered an extra bottle of dandelion & burdock half way through the meal but after the 3 rd time of asking I managed to get one , sorry not good enough as it wasn't all that busy just slack service , having said all this I would go back again but next time I would make my feelings known to the manager which on reflection I can't believe I didn't as I believe what you order is what you should get and in a real service industry there is no 2 nd best ,

The rest of the garden centre is very professional - the café lets it down , badly. The service and organisation is poor - waitresses have to be asked to clear dirty pots away , then don't ask if you would like anything else (think of the lost sales here?!). Its ponderous at best. Clearly it's the manager of the cafe at fault as these younger staff need ongoing training and guidance - they're all very nice , just lacking in leadership. Most of the customers are locals and regulars , and could probably run this place better themselves! Also just a thought , but why not extend the breakfast menu into lunchtime ?
