My colleague arranged to meet me at the above venue after dropping our clients off at another local restaurant. We had 4 hours to kill so decided to have a Christmas lunch at the above premises. My colleague lives fairly close by so did some research and found the write ups favorable . On the Friday before Christmas there were 4 cars on the car park which I suppose at least one belonged to the owner. Inside there was one man and his dog sat in a corner with half a pint in front of him.Inside the place looked gloomy and looking back for this review did not seem welcoming at all. The lady who served us was very friendly if not a bit surprised to see customers on this very busy day. I ordered a coffee which came before the food and although it was warm I was able to drink it at one go as it was not piping hot. The pie I ordered was ok but the chips were look warm and hard in the middle and the vegetables were either brown with age or were a little hard for my taste. I followed that up with a sticky toffee pudding which was a good portion but was cold. The ice cream did not melt which was placed on the top. I thought it rude to ask my colleague what his was like as he was paying but safe to say I wont be going back in a hurry. may be an off day I dont know but was very disappointed.

This is a great, spacious pub in a superb location. The beers are Sam Smiths so are well worth travelling for and of course the prices are very reasonable. There are beer gardens front and rear and a good car park. The service was excellent with the only criticism being that food stopped being served at 6pm on the Saturday we were there - not sure if that's a permanent arrangement but worth a visit for the ales alone. We will definitely be back if we find ourselves staying in the area again.

Popped in for a family meal and the Petre Arms did not disappoint! I had the lasagne which was fantastically cheesy whilst my family loved the gammon, fish and chips and scampi that all looked amazing. The portions were big and the prices cheap, service was excellent with well-mannered, friendly staff and the beer... The beer was absolutely fantastic! Best beer around and cheaper than anywhere else!

The Petre Arms is a fabulous pub with great food and beer. The comments regarding the landlady are uncalled for and unfair. People should remember this is a pub NOT a play centre. Some pubs are catered towards children but not all are. Some adults want to go for a drink away from children to enjoy some adult time. If you are looking for a family day out try a Brewers Fayre! This is a wonderful pub tainted by some very negative reviews. Keep up the good work Leesa.

Absolutely shocking! Arrived at the bar, immediately asked for a food menu, and ordered drinks, only to be told that drinks could not be added on to the food/table bill and must be paid upfront, which we have never been asked to do before. My partner then returned to the bar to order food as nobody had approached our table. She was then told that we must pay for the food upfront before we had even eaten, which again I found very strange. Whilst waiting for the food, my 2 year old son would not sit still in the high chair like most toddlers, so I let him get out whilst we wait. He moved a couple of feet into the bar area, only for a shout to come from behind the bar "can you control your kid we don't have them round the bar area" which is fair enough but I could clearly see him, and the bar area was totally empty, not one costumer was in that area. The shout came from the "landlady"Who seemed to have an attitude from the outset. After finishing our meal, I noticed a few different customers settling there bill after eating, unlike we had been allowed to proceed with doing. I then approached the "landlady" asking her if this policy had changed since we had last eaten here, and why other customers were allowed to pay after there meal?!? She then said she knew some of these customers , so the "locals" had different rules. I then questioned her about why she needed to shout across the bar to "control my kid" who had stepped once into the empty bar area, her attitude totally changed, she said "if you don't like it, don't come here" to which I replied I won't again! She then ran around the bar and snatched my glass not letting me finish my drink, and shouted us to "get out of my pub". Extremely confrontational and uncalled for which was very embarrassing in a busy room of customers. My partner had talked to 2 other tables whilst all this was going on, and they said they felt extremely sorry for witnessing what they had seen, and agreed we'd been unfairly treated. What followed however I did not like, total harassment! The landlady followed me to the door and began taking pictures of me and my 2 year old son who I was holding in my arms whilst leaving. I tried to snatch the phone out of her hand, and said "why are you taking pictures of me and my 2 year old son" to which she replied "I've got it all on CCTV anyway" so still very strange why she wanted pictures of me and my son on her personal phone device.Would not advice anyone to go with children, as far as the quality of the food, it's as the old saying goes 'you get what you pay for'

I don' know when previous reviewer went to eat at the Petre but they weren't doing food all last weekend, apparently kitchen closed!!!. We have been several times as it is near to where we live and at first optimistic about new managers, they brought in new menu, started sunday roast, and also extended opening hours on thursday & fridays to all day. However, most of the staff seem to have disappeared, you have a lengthy wait for a drink and I wholeheartedly agree with a previous reviewer that the gents toilets smell disgusting. This should be a belting local pub but all the locals have serious concerns which should be addressed by the Brewery.

I was out fell walking with my wife and had worked out that the Pub closed at 3.00pm on Fridays as this is clear on their Google info. I arrived at 2.40pm passed a number of locals outside the pub on the benches with full pints of beer only to be told that they were now shut.I was not offered water, a soft drink, a cup of coffee, half a pint etc, but was told very bluntly that the pub policy was that I had to order by 2.45 to be served and that was the rules. Is it any wonder that country pubs are closing down with attitudes like these. We would almost certainly had drunk up and gone quicker then the people who had already been served 5 minutes ago !!Rules are rules, and if they close at 2.45pm thats fine with me as long as they don't advertise that they are open until 3.00pm. On a long walk we could easily had made sure we were there for 2.45pm if we had known this. To arrive there and have nowhere we could now replenish our energy was very frustrating, and the way the news was delivered to us showed no sympathy or flexibility for our plight. Please be warned if you are planning to go to this pub.

This establishment is unrecognisable from the friendly, welcoming place my family once I must say this pub has some good points. It's really cheap and quiet. There are a few little annoyances (tasteless football memorabilia, you can't pay by card, there's no wifi, no branded drinks). These attributes are forgivable, public humiliation by the staff is not. I was sat alone (already feeling very self conscious) in the middle of a lovely bank holiday Sunday afternoon. I purchased my drink and sat down by the door. Noticing my laptop battery was about to die, I plugged it into the nearest socket but it wasn't live, so no charging for my computer. Nevermind, I thought. Within minutes, I was confronted by an irate barmaid who, in front of 10-12 local (presumably regular) patrons, berated me for "stealing her electricity". Literally accuses me of stealing from her in front of all these strangers, but at the same time accepting the sockets were dead. Folks, even if the sockets were live, 15 minutes electricity is about .001 pence. This went on for about 2-3 minutes. I managed to keep calm and not retaliate or make a bigger scene, so as not to create any stress for the predominantly elderly customers. No doubt about it, this lady was intent on humiliating me in front of the others. The other customers seemed really embarrassed, even apologetic. I wasn't expecting amazing service or whatever, I just wanted to keep myself to myself and enjoy 20minutes on my own while my car was being valeted nearby. I get that some services with dozens of people plugging their machines into the electricity everyday might be an issue, but not here. I'm probably the only person to have tried to charge something there that week!I hope that no one else is humiliated here in the same way. All it would have taken was a quiet word saying please ask permission next time (even then I wouldn't ever come back).

We visited the Petre Arms during a family wedding weekend. The licensee was informed earlier in the week that a group of approximately 20 would be attending the establishment for an evening meal and get together. The idea was so family members from the groom and brides families could get together and break the ice prior to the big event the following day. When we arrived at 7pm there were a number of the group already present. It eventually reached 25 - 27 people. Drinks were purchased and after introductions, people started ordering food. A group of about 8 of the last of the group tried to order food but were told that no more food orders were being taken !! Appeals were made but there was no moving the staff.Had the food that had already been ordered not been paid for, the whole group were going to up stumps and cross the road to a hotel restaurant and bar directly opposite. Those that were refused food either travelled to a local McDonalds and some went to the restaurant across the road (and excellent feedback came about the quality of food and staff from the hotel). Those of us that got food from the Petre Arms didn't buy anymore drinks and when meals were finished, crossed to the road to the hotel bar where a very good late evening and drinking was had by all. It was only as the staff from the Petre Arms were clearing our plates did they say they were taking food orders again! If your business can afford to loose food orders and a group of over 20 putting money in your tills all night, you are very lucky. As for the food, pretty average. This is not a soured appraisal because of the refusal to serve food but an honest opinion. The portions were not outstanding, certainly on my small group the general comment was it was ok but definitely had much better. My steak was medium at the very best and not medium rare. Pretty dry and not particularly tasty. What was the point in complaining when the consensus of opinion was that the staff weren't bothered so let's eat and go. On the positive side the beers were good (and we would have been very content to spend several hours enjoying the beers)I am very unlikely to revisit the Petre Arms due to the distance and the particular reasons for visiting on this occasion. I am astounded a pub turned down what was likely to be a lucrative evening for them.

This is a "local pub" with excellent quality Samuel Smith's beers (keg and hand-pulled) at a local's price! They also have a comprehensive menu serving a wide selection of pub food of high quality. My wife and I are slowly eating our way through the menu and are constantly spoiled for choice when eating there (a complement we are rarely able to give to pub food!).The landlady is cheerful and engages with strangers and locals alike. The locals and the landlords clearly do a lot for local charities and are a focus for the local community, with school and church next door.If you enjoy an old fashioned local with friendly people, good beer and good food then a trip to the Petre Arms is clearly recommended! They also have a small function room with serving facilities and are situated just opposite a golf course. I wonder if they've considered hosting business breakfast meetings there?I'm amazed they don't have a website...I'll have to talk to them about that, seeing as I'm in the business!

Myself, my partner and my dog visited this pub last week. We walked in through the front door and the bar was immediately in front of us. To our left was a small table with two gentlemen sat down and a water bowl for dogs. The two gentlemen immediately made a fuss of the dog who sat quietly being petted. I briefly took the lead off the dog so that I could tie it around my bar stool and put her back on - meanwhile the dog was still sat down, being petted (less than 1 meter away from us). up to this point the experience was quite pleasant... Until, a lady with short dark hair (who we presumed was the landlady) came out from behind the bar and shouted extremely rudely 'put that dog on a lead, i've told you before'. Not only were we very alarmed by this comment, but so were the other customers, who frankly looked embarrassed! She then stormed off. We had been in the pub for less than 3 minutes when she shouted this at us, so it made no sense. The two gentlemen laughed and of course I put the dog (as i was already doing so) onto her lead. We had ordered a drink and were sat quietly reading a paper, the dog (on her lead) was lead underneath my stool asleep, when the same lady walked past, stopped and turned and shouted in our faces 'Haven't I already told you about that dog!?' I stared at her in shock at first and then respectfully pointed out that the dog was clearly on her lead. Again, she stormed off. At this point other customers were commenting about this lady's rude, nasty and frankly ridiculous behaviour - If you don't like people (or dogs) don't work behind a bar...After that the atmosphere of the pub was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. It is a shame because the pub is located in the Ribble Valley which is a popular area for dog walkers. Nice place, terrible staff.

The food was very good quality and certainly value for money, drinks are very well priced, I can only recommend that you try it and see for yourself, we will be going back.

We have now moved a few miles away from the petre arms but still try to go back at least once a week it is probably one of the cleanest pubs we have been in . As someone else commented the lack of music and noise is good as the customers talk to each other and Michelle the landlady is lovely , always pleasant with everyone Andy the landlord is busy in the kitchen preparing really nice food at good prices and really well presented . I have noticed that a lot of people at weddings etc come across because of the good and very well priced beer. Michelle also does a lot of work for charity and has a great selection of books on display can't resist going through them as you just give a small donation. Once again a great pub and dogs and children are definatly welcome

Great family pub, we visit regular and always receive friendly warm welcome. The food menu will suit most tastes and I can particularly recommend the chicken and Wiltshire ham pie (with mash!). You won't disappointed.

Having moved to this area some three years ago we were introduced to the Petre by friends. We were immediately made welcome by the totally professional and hospitable management team. They provide a service to both local and visiting customers which is second to none, creating a warm friendly atmosphere within clean and comfortable surroundings. They are a credit to their profession. The food and its service is of the highest quality. I would not hesitate to recommend the Petre to friends and families alike.Having spent life as a police officer dealing with licensing issues and nine years as the Regional Security Manager for Scottish & Newcastle group of companies covering Centre Parcs,, Pontins, Premier Lodge , Hotels and Licensed Premises, I can not recommend The Petre Highly Enough.

Good food at the Petre, 3 adults all ate for under £30 and had starters and mains, super cheap drinks, although not branded couldn't complain at all! Would recommend

Having been to the Petre Arms many times with my children, I can safely say it never disappoints! The staff are so friendly and helpful, they all have a great repor with the locals who are also lovely people! All in all its a fantastic traditional Samuel Smiths pub with great value for money on the food and drinks, the pub is spotless and the service is brilliant. Definitely recommend a visit!

We called today as a family after celebrating my niece's 1st birthday and intended to stay and have a few drinks. My two boys sat at a different table and quietly played on their i-pads. Aged 7 and 8 I felt they were a credit to us as they were very quiet and well behaved. Unfortunately, the lady behind the bar (maybe the landlady) asked for them to be moved as she said they'd need the table as it gets busy (bearing in mind the pub was empty and plenty of tables were available). I do think this lady obviously doesn't like children and made it clear today. Families beware this isn't a child friendly pub. Shame on her as we were prepared to spend and even order food there.

A nice old style pub run by Sam Smiths brewery. There is no TV and no music so guess what people do Talk was really nice the locals are friendly, there is an open fire and the prices are fantastic even by Sam's standards. £1.35 for a pint of mild!!And the blond bar made who was very pretty seemed to know everyone.

Although I have been to the Pub several times, this is the first time I have eaten there since the current licensees have been in charge. The menu was varied with a little more imagination for vegetarians than most pubs. The food was great with exceptional value at between £6-7.50 for the main courses. Our 6 year old's spag bol went down a treat. The pub is owned by Samuel Smiths, an unintentionally quirky outfit - all the drinks are their own brands. Don't let that put you off as the ales are very good quality as well as being cheaper than other pubs - just don't expect to drink Guiness, John Smiths etc. The service was friendly too. Will be going again.

My family enjoyed visiting this little gem of a pub. The food was of a good quality (a pie with pastry all around - hooray!) and there was some choices of beer and wine, some at very reasonable prices. The service was excellent and my young son was made to feel very welcome too. A place a look forward to visiting again next time I am in the area.

My family and I visited The Petre based on previous experience (albeit quite a few years ago) and were greeted with another great experience.Although the pub was quiet, which is unavoidable due to its location in the countryside of the Ribble Valley, the welcome from the landlady was warm and friendly and she had a great rapport with all of the customers who visited. The food was freshly prepared and extremely good value for money, even as a lunch time snack. The drinks prices were also reasonable and given that this is a Sam Smith's pub, all the beer is Organically produced (a fact that I didn't know before).Pubs such as The Petre are the hearts of the community and I hope that other people get the chance to experience a great meal like we had.

I visited the Pavillion cafe on Sunday for some lunch. I have a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis) and therfore made the server aware when ordering our food. I asked for the fish and chips and she seemed very unsure so went to check with the kitchen which was good. After making me aware that nuts were used in the kitchen however were not used in any of the fryers I decided to go ahead with the order. However, before our food arrived she came back over to ask if I had my epipen on me which obviously made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe eating there. Therefore, when the food arrived I didn’t feel safe to eat it and had to give it to my partner. As an allergy sufferer I was very disappointed in the handling of the situation as every restaurant/cafe I have visited in recent years have been very educated on allergies and have been very reassuring and taken it seriously: checking if anyone has any allergies on ordering, providing ingredient lists and making staff aware which meals need to be prepared with more care etc. I am only writing this review in the hope that staff here become better trained on how to handle customers with allergies as I feel they were not at the standard they should be. I do not want to but a negative view on the cafe as the food looked lovely and my partner did enjoy the food.

I ordered the crispy lamb salad which was well presented on lettuce but it was burnt. I was asked how was my food and said that the lamb was burnt and I couldn’t eat it. The waitress said that she would tell the chef. Nothing happened. It was three very expensive burnt mouthfuls for £21.
