On a particularly crowded and noisy day today in Newquay, we just needed somewhere quiet to rest our feet and get a bite to eat. My teenage daughter and her friend loved their toasted sandwiches, while my wife and I both opted for Cheddar Baps. We were both astonished with just how delicious and awesomely good the chef here could make of something as potentially mundane as a cheese bap. Each of our baps were made from a light homemade bread rolls and filled with a perfect combination of chutney, rocket, lambs lettuce, pickle and melted cheese. Plus a side of perfectly made creamy coleslaw too. Absolutely ten out of ten for such a perfect lunchtime meal plus most friendly and helpful service too. Especial thanks to the proprietor who readily understood our teenage daughter’s sensory processing disorder and turned down the volume of music while we were there. This was a special and memorable stop for us today.

Pleased to find three Vegetarian options on the menu. Ellie went the extra mile to adapt the menu to cater to the likes of our American friends. We all had Falafel Salads and they were absolutely delicious. We only lacked the weather to sit outside with a wonderful view, but that was beyond everyone’s control. Thank you Ellie, good luck with your business you deserve every success! Have a great time in India.

Great little tapas restaurant/bar on the Esplanade which was only a short distance from where we were staying. As we'd had a big lunch we wanted something smaller for the evening and this fit the bill perfectly. Staff were friendly and efficient and they had a nice selection of wine. Not cheap (particularly when compared to tapas bars in Spain) but very tasty and we a nice treat.

Mockingbird Mimosa Lounge visit on 19th October 2024 This review has only just been posted as we have been waiting 3 weeks for our refunds. This is for the deposits paid and not taken off our bill and failure to provide tea or coffee. I have previously visited The Mockingbird and have always enjoyed my visit. We booked a colleagues 'leaving do' and decided on ‘Afternoon High Tea’. Unfortunately, there was nothing ‘High’ about it! I was presented with a wooden board containing a mish mash of food, just piled up. Both meat and veggie sandwiches touching and also cakes all on the same board, buried under each other. Quality was cheap, with weird combo of plastic ham and chicken mayo in the same huge thrown together sandwich. The cakes were cheap and shop bought; certainly nothing fancy or enjoyable. Website says £17.50. We had all previously paid a £5 deposit; so I was expecting to pay £12.50. On paying, an incredibly rude woman (Louise) demanded to know who had paid and who had not. I felt like saying ‘’I don’t work here’’ but took the bill to my friends, who settled it immediately. We had spent in the region of £600+ between us. We even paid for a couple of colleagues ‘High Teas’ who had to cancel short notice due to illness, as it was pre-booked. We were not offered any tea or coffee; I did not realise this was actually supposed to be included. On reviewing my bill, the deposit had not been deducted and the charge was £22.50 per person, making my not so fancy tea £27.50. The website also says £14 for 2 cocktails, we were charged £18 for 2, hardly a ‘Happy Hour’. The ‘Gold Star’ goes to the toilet. Unclean and the towel that was hanging on the back of the door was filthy and wet – this had obviously not been changed for some time. Trying to sort this out has been interesting as Louise, who comes over as aggressive and rude, has yet to offer any apology. She even had the cheek to say "I had to turn people away because of you"! We spent a lot of money and had pre-booked! As we all work in the NHS and work to a high standard, I do not expect to be treated like this and will not be returning - You do not deserve our custom, I only hope that this will give you an opportunity to improve things.

DOG FRIENDLY YAY. in the garden out back which is a lovely setting. And the best cake I've had in Cornwall so far. Try rhe Lemon drizzle. Chocolate cake was also divine.

We loved the summer house, and had such a relaxing stay! Delicious breakfasts, a spotless and comfortable room, lovely garden and amazing hosts Kirsten and Trevor! They were so welcoming and we felt at ease straight away. Tea/coffee and snacks available at the larder were a great touch too - especially enjoyed in the garden! Having evening drinks available was wonderful too. The summer house is perfectly situated too to either stroll into penzance or explore newlyn/mousehold on foot. Really recommend! Photo of the beach taken a one minute stroll from the house.

Good selection on the menu. Food was always served hot and correctly. Very good quality of meals. Can be quite nosey as open plan, but they have a covered outside area too if you want to bring your dog.

Possibly the best pizzas I’ve eaten. And a delicious salad. It was just like sitting in a Mediterranean cafe on an October day. Wish it was nearer home!

Waited ages to take an order and waited an hour for our food in a half empty restaurant. Started taking our order then left to take another order halfway through. However food was really good.

We are locals, have been here a few times before and always had an excellent meal and service. This time however, it wasn’t great. Our waiter was doing her last shift before heading back to uni, and I don’t think she could really be bothered with us. Food was pricey and unexceptional. Felt like the chef had decided to move to the autumn menu - squash soup? Asparagus being offered well out of season. My Dover sole was ok, wife and daughter had John Dory, which was ok. Coffee was the teeniest tiniest espresso that I have ever seen. When you are dropping nearly 400 pounds on a meal, you expect it to be memorable, but on this occasion it wasn’t (or rather it was, but for the wrong reason). St mawes is lovely, but I’ll be giving Tresanton a swerve for the foreseeable.
