We are locals, have been here a few times before and always had an excellent meal and service. This time however, it wasn’t great. Our waiter was doing her last shift before heading back to uni, and I don’t think she could really be bothered with us. Food was pricey and unexceptional. Felt like the chef had decided to move to the autumn menu - squash soup? Asparagus being offered well out of season. My Dover sole was ok, wife and daughter had John Dory, which was ok. Coffee was the teeniest tiniest espresso that I have ever seen. When you are dropping nearly 400 pounds on a meal, you expect it to be memorable, but on this occasion it wasn’t (or rather it was, but for the wrong reason). St mawes is lovely, but I’ll be giving Tresanton a swerve for the foreseeable.

I am a big fan of Hotel Tresanton, and our recent lunch here did not disappoint. Gorged ourselves on lobster, oysters and scallops sitting on the terrace. Luckily, on a sunny day. Great cocktails and yummy cheese cake. The service here is absolutely 5 star which really contributed to such a wonderful lunch

Met a friend who was staying at the Tresanton at 3pm for a cup of tea. Asked if there were any cakes or pastries or cookies or anything like that and were told there was nothing as ‘lunch service has finished’. Would have expected something to be available at a hotel like this.

We came for Sunday lunch, which was Roast Pork. The Roast pork was dry and over cooked. Nobody asked us how our food was until they came to clear our plates. When we told them the food was below par, we just got a shrugged shoulder. Service was very slow. We appreciated the white linen, but the wafer thin menus on cheap paper really lets the restaurant down. Come on, you can do better !

We recently had 2 dinners in this restaurant. The room is spacious and open with good views over the sea. Staff are polite and helpful. The ambiance and spacing is perfect. Note that it is high up from the rad so there are steps. Also in the summer there is opportunity to dine outside or across the road on the terraces overlooking the sea. As expected the food is excellent and there is a good wine list. You can sit in a lounge with a wood fire whilst choosing from the menu. It is probably going to cost around £80 each with wine.

We popped for lunch on Sunday. We took advantage of valet parking (just pull up outside and take your keys to reception) and were ushered into the lounge to enjoy pre-lunch drinks. My husband said his virgin Bloody Mary was the best he'd ever had. Having decided that three courses were going to be just too much we chose a main and dessert each. I can highly recommend the risotto. It's perfect. I'm gluten free and they had many options for me. I also felt totally safe eating here. The staff are just lovely. Very attentive and friendly. Overall a wonderful couple of hours spent in a beautiful restaurant, surrounded by friendly people and eating stunning food.

A special dinner out in this great location with very nice staff. Unfortunately the food disappoints. Bread is good. Starter of warm but flabby mullet draped over cold green beans on a cold plate? Crispy skin? No. Main course duck, meat ok but flabby skin again? Even I know how to get crispy skin on duck breast. Will think twice about coming again. Local take away fish & chips was much better

On arrival found staff and receptionist to be first class , nothing was off limits to them , made my parter’s getaway the best she has ever had . Food was stunning ( buts its quite pricey), drinks were very good ( they will add 12.5% surcharge on these ) , The view from the rooms were stunning and could not ask for a better view . Bathroom was very good ( but our shower seals were leaking water all over the floor . Rooms made up every day and beach towel set was complimentary for use ( nice touch ) . All in all had an excellent few days away to unwind . If you need to no more , please don’t hesitate to ask for more information.

We had lunch at the Tresanton with good friends who live in Cornwall know the area very well. They correctly regard this luxury boutique hotel as the gem of St. Mawes which is a stunningly beautiful, very upscale, and unspoiled coastal fishing village on the Roseland Peninsula, a short ferry ride from busy Falmouth. It has gorgeous views of the bay from the dining terrace, beautifully appointed public rooms, and great food. We did not stay at the hotel because it was fully booked, for good reason.

Three dinners at Tresanton - all exceptional. The menu is short but offers plenty of choice & dishes rotate enough to remain interesting on consecutive nights. Highlights for us were the crab tian, arancini, & all the fish (lemon sole, John Dory, the mackerel starter & sea bass). And the young master says the duck was great too, so much so that I didn’t get a look in… Excellent wine list too - refreshing to see such interesting whites, or so the old master says. He’s a sucker for Italian whites (from the Puglian Fiano to the Vernaccia) but also the Spanish (Albariño & Gordello). My samples - in the form of regular doggy boxes - we’re all tip-top, so thank you as ever to Jonathan, Paul and the whole team in this wonderful kitchen.

Typically understated and unostentatious English restaurant. The place is very classy and ensures customers receive high quality service. The food and drink are exceptional, and they handled very well a family lunch for 14 with ages ranging from 2 to 79! Ricardo looked after us amazingly and made everyone feel welcome. That would be enough but too it off with the stunning back drop of St Mawes and St Anthony Head. Cant recommend enough and am sure anyone who goes will long to return….

We have eaten in the restaurant before but only in the summer and on the outdoor Terrance. This time we were staying for Christmas and had a number of meals including Christmas lunch and breakfasts in the main restaurant. Good range of food options - always well prepared and service was consistent and friendly. Dinner had a good and reassuringly short menu of locally source products: fish of course and sea food including lobster as well as meat. An Italian nod in the form of gnocchi or pasta: a few sides and deserts. A well designed wine list. Breakfast as you would expect - fruits, juices the obligatory crushed avocado to kippers! Friendly and cheerful staff. A great place to eat anytime.

Having been a regular since opening more than twenty years ago I feel qualified to say that the restaurant at Tresanton goes from strength to strength. The menu is short but varies from day to day, based on whatever is locally available and good. Even with a short menu I feel spoiled for choice - hoping that the dish I didn’t choose might be there on another occasion, during our always too-short stay.If anything I feel that the cooking has become a bit more adventurous over time, but never fussy or complex for the sake of it. I think that the Head Chef will celebrate twenty years at this stove next year, a remarkable achievement. I hope that I will be at Tresanton again in 2021 to celebrate this. Many thanks to all.

We had a long weekend at the hotel at the end of June. Considering all the issues with the COVID, they did very well. We had amazing sunny weather and were able to eat all meals on the terrace. Food and service excellent, but when you make your reservation get your food time slots in as otherwise you might be eating very late in the evening ( unless that is what you want)

On a sunny afternoon in Cornwall, there are few better spots than on the terrace at Tresanton looking out to sea.We have stayed before which has always been excellent, but not this trip, so naturally had to pre book for lunch as does everyone who is not a resident at the moment due to Covid.Service was very professional, food was lovely, however the menu is very limited at the moment which is understandable.

Fantastic quality food and service. We are a family of 5 with kids under 10 and the staff could not have been more helpful. Clam linguini was the best I have had. Great views and good value for the price. Very English. We loved it.

We had a family dinner here during February half term and were not staying at the hotel. The food was delicious. Lovely fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked. I had the whole lemon sole and it was fabulous. Portions were generous, bordering on too large meaning that we could only manage two courses rather than three: when dining at a good restaurant, we prefer to have three smaller courses so that we can enjoy the full variety the restaurant has to offer. The restaurant is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. However the service we received, although not rude, was perfunctory and unfriendly. Were we not welcome as non-residents we wondered to ourselves? The service seemed friendly toward those we thought were staying at the hotel. The restaurant was by no means full, so I would have thought the owners would have been delighted to have an additional cover on that evening, particularly at a quieter time of year. We dine regularly at good restaurants so know the difference between good service and indifferent service. We had high hopes for the evening being a highlight of our holiday, but the evening was ok rather than special because we were not made to feel terribly welcome and we were in and out in an hour and a half tops.

Went for Sunday lunch. Drinks in the lounge took a while to arrive. Food was good but although the restaurant was less than half full, a family of five were given a table that was within eighteen inches of ours! Their proximity to us, coupled with a distinct lack of any eating manners basically ruined our lunch!

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the lovely hotel restaurant. The food was fantastic and the service in keeping with the surroundings, unassuming and quietly attentive. We are looking forward our second visit.

Happy experience sheltering here for a night during very stormy weather. Hotel quiet in run-up to Christmas, so we had our pick of rooms. Chose 2nd floor as wanted quiet and were advised by staff this would be so, though it turned out there is quite a bit of noise transference, pity as otherwise this is a very pleasant, well run place. We had an excellent dinner.

What's not to like. Sitting out on the terrace watching the sun set over St Mawes while have a very fine wine and dining experience. It still remains a benchmark for others and is hard to beat.

We loved the summer house, and had such a relaxing stay! Delicious breakfasts, a spotless and comfortable room, lovely garden and amazing hosts Kirsten and Trevor! They were so welcoming and we felt at ease straight away. Tea/coffee and snacks available at the larder were a great touch too - especially enjoyed in the garden! Having evening drinks available was wonderful too. The summer house is perfectly situated too to either stroll into penzance or explore newlyn/mousehold on foot. Really recommend! Photo of the beach taken a one minute stroll from the house.
