Halal. Mitsuryu was my favourite place in Chinatown- I was so sad when they moved! But then I found out that they moved to Wembley so I had to visit. Their Tamagoyaki is the best I've had in London and I really recommend their katsu curry. They used to do a great katsu type broth (in the picture) but I don't think they serve this anymore. Honestly 10/10 you will not regret visiting Mitsuryu.

I had been here a few years ago and loved this place, but unfortunately it seems it’s permanently closed? Their website is still live (July 2024), we tried to reserve by filling in a form on their site but got no response. Went their without reservation during stated opening hours. Not only was the restaurant closed but the signage had been removed from the exterior of the building.

We were ‘dragged’ in off the streets by a couple of members of staff touting for business and it was the best decision of the weekend in London. Beautiful top floor setting overlooking Trafalgar Square and St Martins place. The food was fantastic, the service first class. I’m coeliac and the knowledge of the menu and gluten was excellent and they use a gf soy which opens up pretty much all of the menu.

Introduced to this place earlier in the week and loved it. Really delicious food and love that you can choose your size of rice, spice and a side too. Really tasty and great value. Second visit and had the thinly sliced beef curry. Delicious. Not a place for a long meal but a perfect refuelling before heading off to theatre or something!

Came here to start off our little Birthday day out to treat my girlfriend who loves all things Japan. And we both HIGHLY recommend coming here! Let me just quickly summarise this place for the readers out there: - Knowledgeable, friendly and highly attentive staff - Amazing selection of sakes, cocktails, whiskeys, etc. - Food that's fresh and really tasty (highly recommend the Chicken Fry!) A bit of a hidden gem in Covent Garden that we'll definitely be back to for the sake flights and sake school! If you've been thinking about trying Japanese cuisine, or already love it, just get down here and enjoy yourself!

I visited Machiya for the first time after a recommendation from a Japanese friend. I had the Kara-age, the Tonkatsu with rice and the Matcha Fondant. Having lived in Japan, I found everything I ordered to be authentic. The Kara-age was nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Tonkatsu was delicious and definitely comparable to what I had in Japan. The Matcha Fondant was also very good. You can really taste the matcha and I definitely recommend it if you have a sweet tooth. The service was also very good. The dishes I ordered were served quickly and despite being very busy, the manager and young Japanese woman who served me were friendly, polite and very responsive. The young woman even made time to chat to me in Japanese (although her English was excellent based on hearing her speak to other customers). Machiya is a fairly small restaurant and was very busy even for a weekday and so I do recommend making a reservation if possible. I should also point out all the seating is stools and they do not have booths. However, they were accomodating to my needs and gave me a table where I could lean against the wall. In summary, I had a very good dining experience at Machiya and I would definitely recommend a visit if you fancy authentic Japanese food combined with very good customer service.
