I had been here a few years ago and loved this place, but unfortunately it seems it’s permanently closed? Their website is still live (July 2024), we tried to reserve by filling in a form on their site but got no response. Went their without reservation during stated opening hours. Not only was the restaurant closed but the signage had been removed from the exterior of the building.

We wanted to have a good Japanese meal. This place is not in most tourist havens, which is great! Their bento boxes are opulent and very very well-prepared. The sashimi was fresh. My salmon was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. My husband’s teriyaki steak was grilled just right, still juicy, flavorful and tender. The pork tonkotsu was also well prepared. Our only lament was the rather Uber small green salad. They could have given a little more. (Fresh veggies are good for you) and we enjoy the crunch and flavor to contrast the other dishes. The place was clean. Our server was attentive and efficient. We will be back!

You need time when you come here, don’t treat it like a takeaway place, the best experience is to enjoy it at pace. There are only like 7 tables and 4 seats at the bar. At lunch it’s busy as it’s on Strutton Ground and the market is outside on the pedestrianized street. Fish quality is great! They speak Japanese behind the bar, and they are so friendly. Because it’s underground, don’t expect good mobile service, instead just unplug and enjoy! No wheelchairs or buggys. The stairs are steep and straight down.

Delicious. Absolutely delicious in every way. The plum wine is divine, the food is amazing and its great service. You go down some stairs next to a hair salon and there's a quaint restaurant down there waiting for you. It can maybe sit 25-30 people maximum. The menu is great, lots to chose from. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys good quality sushi. Don't be put off by the price...me and my friend have healthy appetites so our spend per person is a lot higher than normal people!!

My husband and I are traveling from Texas looking for a local sushi spot. Ichiriki by far exceeded our expectations. It’s a mom and pop restaurant run by the husband and wife, very kind, respectful and great service with food prepared fresh as ordered. We had the chicken gyoza, shrimp gyoza, Lion King roll, bagel maki (way better than Philadelphia roll in the states), and take. Every item was delicious and extremely affordable! This is definitely a gem in the westminster area, do not hesitate to try it if you’re looking for a spot. The sign may be hard to find at night but look for signage on the street.

Fantastic little sushi place - so tasty and really well priced! Everything was super fresh, authentic and the taste was top notch. Generous portions, lovely staff, menu easy to follow and order from. The restaurant itself is tiny so reservations are recommended. I tried the twmpura prawn sushi roll and we ordered another portion, it was that good. Nigiri selection was a fun way of trying a variety of fish, and (surprisingly) the pumpkin croquettes were the best I've had in my life (wouldn't have expected that from a humble pumpkin!). Overall a fantastic experience. A tiny let down was the dessert, Japanese cake with red bean paste. It was just a pre-packaged pancake from a powder with bean paste served cold. Definitely did not enjoy that, but the place is known for its sushi not its desserts! The sushi is 10/10, just go elsewhere for dessert.

Food does all the talking here and if anyone is fond of sushi this is the place to be. The sushi are made fresh on the restaurant itself and one can taste the freshness of the ingredients in every piece. I stopped visiting other sushi places since I discovered Ichiriki and I have taken many of my good friends here to interduce them to delicate art of enjoying sushi. Not as good as I remembered pre-pandemic unfortunately - the place was deserted during dinner on a Saturday night, where it used to be packed. I chalked it up to the Google hours listing the place as closed incorrectly. A wrong dish was brought out to start, the ungai was cold where it used to be warm, and lots of our dishes were microwaved. The quality of the food has declined overall. If you don't tip, the waitress will give you the cold shoulder. They should just add gratuity onto the cheque if it's going to lead to that. Used to be one of my favorite spots in the area - we were saving our visit for a special occasion, in fact. A real disappointment.

This is such a sweet little authentic sushi place, and I likely would have rated it more highly if I didn’t have any dietary requirements. Unfortunately this place is just not suitable for those with coeliac disease. The restaurant is run by what appears to be a husband/wife/son team. The younger male is in the kitchen preparing fried dishes and cleaning. The woman is behind the sushi bar, and the older male is the front of house server. His English is not very strong, so despite the two signs I saw that indicated you should speak to a member of staff if you have food allergies, this proved to be a bit difficult. As research suggests that sushi rice, wasabi, picked ginger, and miso soup can all be gluten free but in some cases are not, I tried to ask whether these were at this restaurant or not. The answer I got was that the rice (either sushi or steamed) had a little bit of gluten in it, while the noodles had a lot of gluten in it. I didn’t understand why the rice would have gluten so tried to ask if it was made with a vinegar but he didn’t understand. Eventually he got noticeably frustrated (as was I to be honest!) and said “I don’t know, I’m not a scientist.” Not helpful for a restaurant guest with allergies when you should know as the owner and operator, and basically excludes anyone with allergies from your clientele. He was also explicitly not understanding the seriousness of coeliac disease by telling me that the rice had a little bit of gluten in it, but the noodles had lots of gluten. I wasn’t interested in the levels of gluten but rather, the absence of it entirely. I then asked to see a list of allergens (as all restaurants should have and be willing to show you). This had a column for cereals containing gluten and annoyingly, none of the items he was claiming had gluten (eg miso soup, jo nigiri sushi, dragon rolls) were showing as having gluten on their table, which was written in January 2020. So when I then tried to order these items, he expressed concern and said are you sure because they have gluten. I showed him how the chart he’d given me said otherwise, but he responded to say that his common sense would make him think otherwise. All in all, incredibly unclear and stressful for someone with dietary needs. He was however able to offer me a gluten free soya sauce, but equally was also convinced that soya had gluten in it when I asked him about the miso soup. I corrected him to say that soya beans themselves do not have gluten and the only reason why soya sauce had gluten was because it added wheat, picking up the sauce on his restaurant table to show him. Coeliac UK have some guides in different languages explaining coeliac disease and gluten that you can use for travel. However, they only had Japanese and it turned out that he was South Korean and could not read the Japanese language, so that was not helpful. In summary, I stuck to the sashimi, did have some wasabi and pickled ginger, ate edamame beans, and used the gluten free soya sauce and did not end up having any bad reactions or a coeliac attack after my visit. However, I would not recommend this otherwise cute and authentic sushi restaurant unless you don’t have dietary restrictions. I do hope they will make the effort to look into the allergen content of their foods more throughly though, and educate themselves on coeliac disease, as I don’t see why they could not easily cater to those of us with coeliac disease.

This place does fabulous sushi ! Mostly I’m disappointed with London sushi but this place restored my faith. I guess it’s family owned - the Dad being the sushi chef appears to have been here since the 1980s but can barely string 2 English words together. The elder son does the serving (I’m guessing all this). Anyway not to worry the menu is wide, wide, wide... temperature of sushi perfect. Atmosphere intimate. Facilities basic - price reasonable. All in I defy you to be disappointed.

Introduced to this place earlier in the week and loved it. Really delicious food and love that you can choose your size of rice, spice and a side too. Really tasty and great value. Second visit and had the thinly sliced beef curry. Delicious. Not a place for a long meal but a perfect refuelling before heading off to theatre or something!

Interior has improved since the last visit which looked more like a converted pizza restaurant and now Looks like a restaurant with a large bar. Spacious interior with well spaced tables. Has the Tokyo roll- was good. The duck main was good but has to order an additional portion of rice. Service was good. Gin and tonics was well priced.
