We had a varied dinner (omakase, eel rolls, seaweed salad, iberico teriyaki): EVERYTHING was excellent. And the sushi chefs in front of us were impressive to watch (and also friendly). Will be back.

Yesterday I had serious stomach trouble due to your stale food. Sushi Atelier is a Japanese restaurant I stumbled upon by chance before. It has a great value-for-money, and the flavors are nice. Both my best friend and I love it; we’re regulars, and we’ve always been satisfied with their omakase, which is affordable too. Feeling a craving today, I decided to book a solo lunch there. I saw they had sea urchin listed on the blackboard, so I splurged on a £10 sea urchin sushi. As soon as it was served, I felt a bit dissatisfied—why wasn’t the nori wrapped perfectly around it? But I didn’t fuss about it. I thought I’d finish my 10 pieces of sushi first, then savor the sea urchin. When I had about four pieces of sushi left, my sea urchin sushi tipped over, so I hurried to pop it into my mouth. As soon as it entered my mouth, I was hit with this indescribable off-flavor combined with a faint fishy taste. I thought maybe it was just a different variety of sea urchin and assumed it was just a bit of that ocean flavor (which I can handle in small amounts). Feeling unsure but not saying anything, I finished my meal and then took the bus to Fortnum & Mason to buy some biscuits. That’s when the nightmare started. As I was browsing after buying some cookies, a sudden wave of abdominal pain hit. I knew this was serious, so I quickly looked for a restroom. After a round of relief, I thought it was over, but soon after, an even stronger pain hit. It was so intense I couldn’t even stand up properly. I was on the lower ground floor near the butcher section and ended up crouching down on the floor. Struggling up the stairs to the first floor, I barely made it to the G floor before I started feeling dizzy and even a bit nauseous. By the time I got to the restroom, I was so desperate that I didn’t even bother lining the seat with tissue before I sat down. Thinking that round would finally fix things, I went back downstairs to buy some meat, but the pain came back again. In desperation, I rushed back to the first floor for another bathroom trip. Feeling weak and utterly exhausted, I finally gave in and splurged on a cab home—from the west to the east, costing me £30! I ended up making three toilet trips!!! Sushi Atelier, how dare you betray me like this! I used to love you so much, and this is how you repay me with this mess? You’re dead to me. UMU too, that Michelin two-star place. Friends, I suggest we all give these Japanese restaurants a capital NO. Can they not serve fresh ingredients to their customers? Do they even have a conscience? Clearly not!

Highly recommended! A little gem we stumbled across and had such an amazing experience from the moment we stepped in to the restaraunt! We had a few plates and they were all just so delicious!! The fish is of high quality, the staff were so welcoming and attentive. We also had the pleasure to meet the head chef Rodrigo who was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. A fantastic little sushi restaurant. For lunch or dinner. Each of chefs selection (Omakasa) sashimi pieces had an actual melt in your mouth quality, that should be taken slowly and savoured for maximum taste. The reception staff, and waiting staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, with attentive service. The chefs were professional, and were visibly pleased to see us not only enjoy the food so much but also take their advice on the order the eat them. The head chef Rodriguez was a star, explaining where the fish and products were sourced from (many different places globally), while preparing the fishes in front of us, so we learnt the cuts and differences in texture and taste. We had great fun chatting to them all, with nice ambient music in the background. The prices were fair for the quality, and we probably over ordered during our stay because it was so good. We finished with the recommended homemade matcha cheesecake which was with only subtle matcha flavour (which suits me as I generally do not like matcha) and it was delicious. Lovely food and people. We will certainly be back.

I recently visited this restaurant, and I was extremely disappointed. They were serving sushi rice straight from a steaming rice cooker—way too hot, as was the sashimi on top. This is far from authentic. The miso soup had no real miso flavor, and the seating was packed, making it noisy and uncomfortable. The environment was uncomfortably warm, too. For £40, it’s definitely not worth it. I’m baffled by the good reviews; it seems like people don’t know what authentic sushi should be. Even Wasabi is better. I won’t be coming back to this british style japanese restaurant. Response: Thank you for your detailed response, but I have to say it feels like we’re over-complicating some very simple observations here. Let’s start with the steam from the rice: steam only occurs at higher temperatures, so unless we’ve entered an alternate universe where physics doesn’t apply, it’s safe to say that the rice was hotter than 37 degrees. If I can see steam, we’re well beyond body temperature—no need for a science experiment here. As for the terminology around “sashimi” and “neta,” I must admit, I didn’t realize we were having a vocabulary quiz. I came to enjoy good food, not to dissect semantics. To the average diner, sashimi is just thinly sliced raw fish, and I think we can all agree that “neta” just refers to whatever is on top of sushi rice. Whether we’re calling it sashimi or neta seems a little irrelevant, especially if the taste and experience are supposed to speak for themselves. Lastly, while £40 per head might seem reasonable in theory, what one expects in terms of quality and attention to detail is what really makes or breaks the value. So perhaps, instead of turning every detail into a lecture, focusing on the overall dining experience might be the way to go.

Rating - 8/10 Service - 8/10 Aesthetics - 8/10 Pricing - 7.5/10 Value For Money - 7/10 A dim lighted aesthetic restaurant (downstairs) with specials and omakases. The sushi & sashimi omakase selections were very fresh and presented beautifully with exceptional service, explaining each piece. The menus do not offer pictures nor use accurate cuts of the fish, so if you have knowledge of the fishes, it’s been labelled quite vaguely. The service time was quite fast even during busy times, with attentive friendly staff. Definitely recommend to try!

Really good for what it is. For an informal sushi place I'm impressed to see real wasabi root being used. The atmosphere is right—I love sushi places where the counter is the prominent feature. There are also tables available. The menu highlight are their "omakase" selections with options for 6, 9, 12, or 15 pieces. Might technically be more of a moriawase assortment; you get everything on one platter as opposed to a piece-by-piece serving. In any event it's a good assortment of fish and you'll get a variety of flavors. Good place overall, totally worth a shout. I'd say this is particularly worth looking at if you're looking to dip your toes in the water of a broader assortment of nigiri and don't know where to start. The price point is very accessible especially if you start with a small portion.

I was amazed by how good this place is! I'm Japanese and I’ve been to several sushi places in London, from cheap to expensive. Honestly, this was one of the best in a way that I feel satisfied with the quality of fish yet not overpriced like some of the high-end restaurants. We ordered edamame, cocktails and yellowtail sushi set and mixed sushi set for two. It was enough and everything was very fresh, I could tell by how fishes were glowing 😉 The waiters were very friendly and helpful which reminded me of Izakaya in Japan. The quality of the sushi was overall good, and the cocktails were nice, especially the Sweet Tokyo (whisky-based cocktails). It’s hard to find similar sushi quality in London at this price range, but I suggest better control of hygiene. I saw a fly over the sushi (not on our plate) right in front of us, and it seemed the chefs noticed it too, as I believed they did not serve that plate to the client. It would be a good idea to keep the door closed to prevent flies from entering the restaurant.

He has vomited twice so far and and has other symptoms as well. He ate edamame beans and eel nigiri. One of my favourite places for sushi in Central London. Good selection of sake and Japanese-inspired cocktails.

Some of the best sushi in london. Service was very good too; very accommodating and gave great recommendations. East 5-stars!

The degree of craftsmanship, creativity and love that goes into every piece of sushi is amazing. With a perfect Sake pairing (try the autumn sake) I’ve enjoyed the Omakase menu and was simply thrilled by the taste and presentation! The service is so very friendly and attentive, I’ll definitely be back for more!

The best sushi I’ve ever had and the highlight of my trip! Absolutely delicious, great service, and excellent value. Really liked how many different kinds of fish they offer and tried one of each.

Order appetisers, sushi set, sashimi for dinner. Fatty tuna ( toro) was in good quality. We tried tuna in appetiser, sushi and sashimi. It is difficult to find another restaurant with comparable freshness and quality. A must try!

Sushi is amazing. we went for the omakase sushi (you won't regret it) other highlights, wagyu carpaccio 🔥🔥 dragon roll and martinis were good. I was not a fan of the panna cotta but they swiftly replaced it with mochi 👍

We were sitting at the counter and it's really fun watching everything get prepared right in front of you. We ordered a sushi platter and a couple 6-piece omakases that were incredible. The staple sushi pieces are well prepared and great quality, but the interesting flavours in the omakase menu were delightful. The cocktails are delicious - the only disappointment was the matcha cheesecake for dessert which I would skip next time to just get more sushi! For <£100 a head, a great spot for quality sushi with a bit of a twist that also doesn't break the bank.

For non-expert like me, the food was amazing. I’d say it’s expensive compared to a normal meal, but perhaps experts would see price being (very?) reasonable for the quality. The sushi omakase set impressed me with variety. Seated at the counter, the chef was so friendly, explained each different fish, even shared with us the best order to eat. I love the attention to detail, each bite was a different delight & great service by the whole team. The bill came in a manga, nice touch! The atmosphere is modern, closer to a clean brightly-lit izakaya (pub) than formal dining. Usually I like such high energy place but somehow I recall feeling a bit overwhelmed. All the chefs were very focused. Visited during lunch hour, best to have reservations as this place seems popular. Price was 90+ GBP for 2 lunch sets, 1 dessert & 1 drink.

One of the best sushis I’ve had in London for a reasonable priced (around 45£ for a set of sushis and tea). Service was efficient, sushis are good and with original taste. Would recommend and definitely come back

Everything was delicious if not inspired. The £10 a serving uni wasn’t fresh, had a very strange, almost sour/numbing flavor I didn’t understand. Enjoy a nice meal here, but I wouldn’t trust the uni again.

Ordinary Japanese food without many choices. Taste ok. A family dinner and tried some sushi and sashimi. There are no noodles or beef dishes. May be there are not many choice of fishes, dishes are very alike. 3 persons cost GBP 123. Normal taste.

Quality is decent, but the price, phew! £48 barely bought enough for 2 people for a takeaway. Very disappointed. Sushi Deluxe (tiny!) and Fried Prawn (again tiny!) Wow. We are so shocked. Value for money = Low.

Overall was quite underwhelmed by the food here, some dishes like the carpaccio were really good but some of the other sushi rolls felt a bit dry and lacked flavour. The staff weren’t too attentive and the matcha cheesecake had an awful texture- it wasn’t an awful experience but I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone

Not bad. I read very good reviews before going so I had pretty high expectations. It was good but not as good as I thought given some of the 5 star reviews I read. Had the Butterfish Carpaccio, it was good. Fatty Tuna rolls, not bad but wouldn’t order again. 12 Piece sushi Omasake, some were good, some were average. The best was seared Salmon belly sushi so I then ordered a 5 piece sushi of Seared salmon belly to finish off. Next time, I would rather order just 3 types of sushi’s with 3-5 piece each and those are the truffle scallop sushi, the fattiest tuna sushi and the seared salmon belly sushi.

An excellent casual sushi bar where the unusual nigiri garnishes are so expertly paired that they do not undermine the great sushi itself. Generally good price:quality ratio, but their £33 lunch ‘omakase’ is one of London’s best value sushi deals. Note though that with their “omakases” you won’t get it piece by piece, nor will you order from the itamae, even if sat at the bar.

The very very fresh ingredients and warm atmosphere were impressive. You can always eat great quality sushi or sashimi whenever you go. Lunch sets are reasonably priced and have a lot. Chirashi is so beautiful that my eyes are happy. Various small dishes are authentic. When someone in London asks me to recommend a Japanese restaurant where can eat raw fish(sushi or sashimi), I always talk about Sushi Atelier first.

Amazing place. Not from london and do not live in London but everytime I’m here, this is a must stop for Japanese. Beyond expectations, was shocked the first time I came, I would say this competes or is maybe even better than multinational brands such as zuma n nobu. Amazing service, food, sake choices. Must go. Recommended dishes: otoro capraccio, sashimi omakase

Introduced to this place earlier in the week and loved it. Really delicious food and love that you can choose your size of rice, spice and a side too. Really tasty and great value. Second visit and had the thinly sliced beef curry. Delicious. Not a place for a long meal but a perfect refuelling before heading off to theatre or something!

Buen servicio, amable. Entrega muy rápida de comida.
