Situated in the middle of theatre district. Tasty food. Nice miso and very tender and delicate gyoza. 10 gyoza + miso + small beer = £ 15

What you get from Yoshino isn't gourmet, full-frills dining or anything of the sort. What you get is flavourful, delicious Japanese snack food for a fraction of the price of anything nearby in London. The menu is small, but what they do is perfected to an art form. You can buy a to-go pot of six chicken or vegetable gyoza for £3.50/£2.50, adding rice for £1; sushi from around £3; and curry with rice from £3. During this visit, I chose a small snack of six chicken gyoza. There's hardly a wait for your food and it's always a great snack.

This isn't wow because of the fine dining food. This is wow because in the middle of London, we are very good, quick food for 3 people - for £11.50. The menu is small - rice/curry sauce (chicken stock base), vegetable gyozas or chicken/vegetable gyozas. (It may be that there's a special, but we were in a hurry and didn't notice this.) Service is polite and efficient. The food was delicious. Curry/rice £3, 6 gyozas £2. Bottle of water £1 -and there were a few other cold drinks (not sure if any were beer). It's a minimalist bar/stool arrangement if you eat in and you clear your own paper bowls. The whole experience is like a strange version of a scene from Lost in Translation. Amazing.

No te puedes equivocar.

I love this place - the seating is not particularly comfortable but the food is delicious. For a couple of pounds, you can get freshly made, high-quality pork dumplings. Their miso soup is also often half price and well worth getting.

. . Es demasiado dulce para el paladar. . Con lo que creo.. Se debe un uso generoso de GMS! ! Era inusualmente secas después.

Great little place for Gyoza dumplings and a good sushi range. They recently updated their price for 12 dumplings from £3 to £4. However it is still very cheap for what you get and it won't stop me coming back.Only thing I feel is that it could do with a bit more atmosphere and ambience. Other than that, a fab place to go for a quick bite.

I must have walked past this place dozens of times but I never ventured inside. The prices are incredible (£3 for 12 pork gyoza!) and the food itself is very good. Definitely worth a stop for anyone who likes pork gyoza. One word of warning though: it can be very popular and the queues can get long, but the turnaround is pretty quick.

As Japanese lunch spots go this is one of the very best. This place is no frills and if you choose you can wedge yourself in on the counter to eat. I did. The staff are really friendly and the food is absolutely superb, authentic and cheap. If you can find a better lunch for £4 in the West End I'd be shocked.Wasabi is a few doors down and sell corporate substandard versions of what's here for twice the price. Go independent!

I popped in today for lunch and I couldn’t believe what a bargain I had. I love Gyoza so much that I could have them administered intravenously! 12 Pork Gyoza for just £ 3 plus 4 Salmon Sushi for £ 2.90 totalling a ridiculous tab of £ 5.90. They tasted absolutely delicious and although it was not a meal as such believe you me, I was stuffed and it has to get the full marks. The Staff was very friendly too

Don't expect amazing Gyoza or salubrious surroundings. But £4 buys you 6 pieces of reasonable Vegetable Gyoza with a good serving of rice. It's nothing to write home about, but it's decent, fair, quick and unbelievably priced for the area.Definitely cheaper than McDonald's a few doors down and it has to be way healthier too!It was busy when I visited with people seemingly enjoying the Sushi. But I'd go for the Vegetable (not the Pork) Gyoza's!

I wanted an inexpensive, delicious, hassle-free takeaway meal. Yoshino, quite disappointingly, (on Shaftsbury) succesfully delivered on only one of the above: hassle-free takeaway. The shop assistants were promoting their pork and vegetable gyozas. I decided on the gyozas and a cup of miso soup. The half dozen gyozas, though freshly prepared, were laden with MSG and a tasteless filling, and the accompaniment dip (comprising mainly soya sauce, rice vinegar) was overpowering and excessively salty. As for the miso soup, it was anything but miso. It was a tasteless, bland, artificial bonito stock broth. To charge $4.80 for half dozen gyozas(i.e. $0.80 per gyoza) and £1.50 for the soup were criminal. A cup of green tea. would have tasted better. I cannot believe how an establishment like Yoshino could be serving food that is so sub-standard. I expected more but how very disappointing it was.

Excellent priced fresh sushi available to all. A large box of vegetarian cost less than a fiver. The location of this place makes you think that it will be expensive because its at Shaftesbury Avenue but how wrong could I be with a large selection of sushi available at a reasonable price with only one selection costing ten pounds. Overall a very good place to give SUSHI a try especially for a first time customer like my friend.

Yoshino offers a fresh sushi selection on a daily basis. The place is spotless and there is a small seating part too. There is a wide selection of sushi with prices ranging from £2.20 - £3.80 for a set of 6. There used to be bigger sizes - 8 pieces but they seem to have changed this. You can buy drinks there too, including miso soup. I have eaten there on many occasions and the food is always fresh. A set of chopsticks is included with your order as is soya sauce, for wasabi you pay 20p extra.

We used to go there for lunch break to buy some take away sushi.... never again! terrible quality and also they've increased the prices. The colour and the taste of tuna maki were horrible and after the first piece I had to throw away the other 5.They don't have hot dishes but only sushi/sashimi. Miso soup with normal taste and strange pieces of tofu inside (not little cubes but slices).I paid 7 pounds for lunch and the quality was worse than months ago.... what happened?

It used to be a really good choice, affordable, good quality and good range of food but not anymore unfortunately, they increased the prices changing just the packaging, you pay more for the same food. There is no point in going there anymore especially because before closing they don't discount anything anymore. I use to go there every week or so and I got there today after a while but I'm so disappointed. I have to find an other sushi bar cheap and good then!

Yoshino has some of the best sushi I have ever eaten at quite possibly the lowest price I have ever encountered. The New York rolls are absolutely phenomenal and their sashimi is so fresh you can imagine you're on the Japanese coast. Seriously, I now walk past places like Wasabi and Itsu with a smug look on my face knowing what I'm going to eat is not only better but also cheaper. I do think they need to rethink the packaging although I've heard they are in the process of this now.

Good sushi for the money, although portion size had reduced over the last few years. Why one earth they use awful white, burger-van polystyrene trays for their sushi. They must go through thousands of them. Waxed cardboard would be a far more sustainable material. Such a pity that they're so ignorant to environmental issues.

They make on site parcels of sushi, almost only rolls. The choice is vast... as long as you want rolls. It's a deli with a tiny eat-in area and a pretty basic choice of soft drinks available. Not the place to go for Japanese haute cuisine but the rolls are consistently delicious and crave-able, super fresh and super cheap. If they only stocked the - elsewhere usual - iced green tea, alongside the coke and the water, I would give them five stars.

We used to go when they were in Piccaddilly and the quality was very good. The staff were polite before and friendly- we were sorry its changed a lot now. Poorly rolled, poorly filled sushi . Taste was not the same either- rather disappointing. We had organic salmon, chicken katsu, tempura......should have got just one to sample first as we gave a lot to the pidgeons. Its a shame as we usually prefer to support the more independent eateries to mega chain restaurants

I have visited this place several times. They did a great job by renovating their little space to accomodate some seating space for frugal customers like me. Previously I have always bought their sushi and prices are very affortable for London's standard and portion wise is ok for what you pay. For me, I always find the sushi fresh.Recently I stop by again on a wet rainy day for a quick bite and decided on their 'special' Wagyu beef udon. First impression, disappointed at the portion size =( The bowl the udon came in was somewhat rather small! The ingredients and soup base was all pre-cooked, the staff just had to assemble it into the small tiny bowl. I mean obviously I wasn't expecting it to be freshly cooked, but they could have added a bit more soup to my udon? The so-called Wagyu beef wasn't anything special to rave about. For £6 (Wagyu beef Udon), I'd rather fork out extra to eat in nearby Misato. If you are looking for good, cheap, quick and variety of sushi, yes Yoshino is definitely the place to go. Even their Miso soup is only £1.50/bowl. If you are starving, probably not.

Introduced to this place earlier in the week and loved it. Really delicious food and love that you can choose your size of rice, spice and a side too. Really tasty and great value. Second visit and had the thinly sliced beef curry. Delicious. Not a place for a long meal but a perfect refuelling before heading off to theatre or something!

Interior has improved since the last visit which looked more like a converted pizza restaurant and now Looks like a restaurant with a large bar. Spacious interior with well spaced tables. Has the Tokyo roll- was good. The duck main was good but has to order an additional portion of rice. Service was good. Gin and tonics was well priced.

Had a craving for sushi somewhere in-between the high high end and Yo Sushi and chanced upon this place. Intending to do a lunch walk in for a la carte or one of their set menus, I was instead offered their Omakase menu only which is usually available via prior reservation only, more courses and of course, more expensive. The sitting was only half full so not sure why a la carte etc wasn't available. The edamame, dessert and miso were forgettable and barely deserving to make up three of the 11 courses (dessert was a scoop of ice cream) and the fish itself was good, prepared in front of you as you'd expect. It wasn't clear that the fish was "dry aged" so the flavours of classics were unique if familiar. The atmosphere was casual at lunch - this isn't pretentious although they still seem to be ironing out some kinks with the service - e.g some things were explained to one end of the counter and not the other. In addition to the lack of an a la option as suggested on their website (or set menus as featured in other reviews), the lunch Omakase is cheaper than on their website, which I only noticed after the fact as the so called encore sushi of your choice promised on the website was not offered so I double checked to ensure I had not misread. Overall a decent experience but some consistency in marketing/expectations management needed.
